I just heard about genepro for the first time the other day at a support group at my hospital. They also mentioned inspire protein powder and syntrax nectar. I need to look them all up because I desperately need to up my protein. I also heard about fairlife milk, that has a lot of protein in it. I picked up some of the fat free and it wasn't too bad. I like your idea about the unflavored protein, too.

Day 7 - Hating Protein Shakes & Worried about Future Food..
careya123 replied to Jenkins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate Protein shakes too. I've just started to experiment with them, and this is what I've learned. 1. GENEPRO Protein Powder is unflavored. It does have that whey protein smell, but it doesn't change the taste, consistency, or texture of what you put it in. I've put it in plain milk, stirred with a fork, and it just tasted like milk. I had a friend taste it, and she agreed with me. This morning I made a fake Starbucks hot chocolate with 2 T cocoa, 2-3 T Torani sugar free syrup, a dash of salt, 1.5 c 1% milk, and 2 tsp Genepro. Add the protein powder AFTER heating. Tasted just like hot chocolate, and the whey protein smell kind of blends in with the milk smell. I'm going to try it in Soups and broths too. Genepro has 30 g of protein for only 1 T, so it takes half the powder than most Protein drinks. It's not a Meal Replacement though--there's no Vitamins and minerals. I believe unjury is a similar protein powder. 2. Get the book Bariatric Foodie Guide to Perfect Protein Drinks. It's cheap and has lots of good ideas. She talks about how to get different textures and tastes depending on your food preferences. She also has good ideas for flavorings (Torani sugar free syrups; fat-free sugar-free dry pudding mixes). 3. If you are past the Clear liquids stage, try this super shake idea: 1 veg, 1 fruit, unflavored Greek protein yogurt, and liquid. For the veg, Kale or spinach adds the least amount of flavor. I usually use frozen berries, peaches, or mango. I use Water, but milk, almond milk, soy milk, etc would work too. Sometimes I'll add parsley or cilantro, but I've heard mint and ginger are good too. I might also add a small amount of fat such as Peanut Butter, nuts, or avacado. You can also add liquid vitamins, or other nutritive supplements. If I'm using fresh fruit, I'll add ice. If you use berries, it won't be very sweet, so some people might want to add a little Splenda, or apple, or carrot. If you need more protein, you can add a small amount of protein powder like Genepro without ruining the taste. 4. Juicing: I've learned to love juicing. Watery vegetables work the best, including cucumbers and celery. You can get some liquid out of kale and spinach, but not much. I haven't tried cabbage, but that might work. Regardless of the vegetables, I always add an apple for sweetness and ginger for kick. I've heard asparagus is to be avoided, because the flavor is too strong. You can add something like Genepro for protein; I haven't tried this one yet, but I have high hopes for it. 5. Do you like fish? I love salmon, so I'll be experimenting soon with salmon spread recipes. It doesn't work for the liquid phase, but it should be fine for the soft foods phase. 6. Bone broth: This is broth made with bones and other ingredients, cooked for 24 hrs or so, long enough to leach minerals out of the bones. Try making it yourself with celery, carrots, onions, and bay leaf. You can also buy it online. I've heard it tastes much much better than regular broth or stock usually available at stores, and is healthier too: lots of nutrition in there, including protein. Add a little protein powder like Genepro. (I haven't tried this one yet either.) 7. I've heard good things about Fit Frappe protein drinks, although they are a little high on carbs. You can mix it half and half with a zero carb protein powder. I've also heard good things about Syntrax Nectar: they have a lot of fruit flavors rather than the normal chocolate and vanilla. Good luck! I haven't had surgery yet, but I'm also worried about the abundance of Protein Shakes. Most of them are so gross and way, way too sweet. -
Unflavored Protein Powder

I use Genepro and love it! -
I've been super nervous about the genepro. I just don't see how they get so much in such a small scoop! I hope it's true. I ordered unflavored piping rock and the scoop is HUGE Takes me a whole day to get in a scoop in my liquids. The matrix nectars were very good (certain ones) preop but now even they are nasty. Guess I'm just roughing it out til food comes

I really like the unflavored GENEPRO. I threw out almost a full container of unjury. I've been at goal a year and I still use it almost everyday in my coffee. I get it from Amazon.

The two things that have saved me are: 1. Isopure RTD Protein drinks available at GNC stores. Now, they don't taste the greatest, but they are much more palatable to me than Protein shakes right now. 2. Unflavored Protein powder (I have both Syntrax and Genepro). I add it to everything...broth, soup, pudding, etc. I would really like to try the Syntrax nectar drinks!

January or February 2016 Sleevers?
860971 replied to songsmith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on how far out you are. My surgeon gave me the ok at 2 wks to have a scrambled egg if made very moist. I add milk before cooking. I have also blended Noodles and Company's hot pot entree. It tastes better that way. Check with your doctor. I also found Genepro powder supplement that I add to everything! It doesn't taste like anything but you get your protein without having to constantly drink the shakes. 1 tablespoon equals 30gm protein. -

The surgery went well from what I was told and no strictures, leaks, or hernias yet! However, recovery has been very difficult. Only this past Tuesday did I start feeling better both mentally and physically. I'm having issues with puree food (make me feel like I need to lie down/sour stomach) so I've gone back to full liquids mainly (soft cheese doesn't negatively effect me). I'm going to start reintroducing some pureed food one at a time, to see what I can tolerate and what I can't. I was having trouble getting my Protein in and I just couldn't stomach the RTD Premier Protein so I ordered GENEPRO which has 30g of protein per tablespoon and is unflavored. It's been a game changer for me! Now I have no problem getting the 60g I need. I've also started to see a therapist which I think will be helpful. I was expecting to have some difficulties mentally but they really are much bigger than I anticipated. Anyway! Hope your recovery is going well!! Each day really does get better. ???? -
I wish I could get protein through meat but my surgeon doesn't allow any meat for the first eight weeks after surgery. I am beginning to think my program is more strict than most. I can't have any "regular" food for 10.5 weeks after surgery...I think I am going to trying the Genepro protein everyone is talking about....

Genpro has changed, anyone try Piping Rock Whey Protein Isolate Powder?
ezbeinggreen replied to OKCPirate's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am looking at the listing on Amazon http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NBAHOLY?ref_=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t and Amazon has the directions as "For adults, add five (5) level scoops (28 grams) of whey Protein isolate powder to 8 ounces of cold Water, milk or your favorite juice and blend" - I am assuming that this is wrong? The label photo says 1 scoop is equal to 28g of product = 25g protein. Is this correct, so 1 scoop to 8 oz of liquid? I currently use the GENEPRO and have been happy so far (I don't agree with the naysayers about the nutrition claims) but this seems like such a better value! Is it too good to be true?? $14 is ridiculously cheap... -
Protein & Water Concerns
SeahawksFan replied to christinems4280's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am almost a year on maintenance and I still use Protein shakes. I use the GENEPRO in my coffee every morning. Sometimes I add it to my oatmeal. I have Shakeology shakes probably 4 x a week. I also eat powercrunch Protein Bars as a snack sometimes. When I get sick of Water I have Powerade Zero. Good luck- LA -
Protein & Water Concerns
christinems4280 replied to christinems4280's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you! You as well, that's an amazing loss! I try and stay away from caffeine. I tried unflavored Isopure in plain water and I basically gagged. I've heard good things about GENEPRO, so I ordered some samples to try. Is there any reason NOT to supplement every day? Or is it fine to? -
Best thing I found was GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. I could not gag down anymore Protein shakes. I mix it in to ricotta cheese, or refried Beans or chili etc and it adds 30 grams of protein to whatever you're eating. I have even used it in sugar free pudding. Mix in one scoop and prepare with skim milk. That way I know I get at least 60 grams of protein per day. I still find Water hard but I work at it. The biggest problem I had was nausea and tiredness but once I started getting more water in those symptoms got better. Still feels like a lead balloon whenever I eat but it is getting easier. I'm at 8 weeks.

The truth is, I failed
A New KK replied to AmyFromCincy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hated the Protein shakes but managed to gag them down anyway. That is until someone posted about GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. I mix it into sugar free pudding, sugar free hot cocoa etc. I've mixed in cottage cheese or yogurt into the Protein Shakes with a little sugar free jam and it turns out like a fruit milkshake. There are ways to get the protein in that is not so gross. I like ricotta cheese better than cottage cheese so I mix the protein powder into that and you can't even tell and 1 scoop adds 30 grams of protein. As hard as it is to eat, nothing tastes as good as thin feels. Buy yourself an nice outfit one size down and hang it on your bedroom door where you have to look at it several times a day. I find that a great motivating factor. I just go shopping in the back of my closet and decide what I want to fit in next. -
Someone here posted about GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. You can add it to anything. I'm on pureed foods so I mix a scoop of that in to whatever I'm eating and that helps me get to the right number of grams. It is so hard to get down 60 g protein and 64 ounces of Water a day. I feel like I'm constantly trying to force something down. My surgery date was 11/19. It's getting easier though and the Genepro helped. I even add it to bouillon, mix it in the nutribullet and that way I get extra fluids in.

Kinda scared..problems with sleeve
A New KK replied to ZombieQueen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at almost 2 months also and had the same problem with nausea added in. Mine was dehydration. I really pounded the Water for a couple of days and the symptoms went away. I also struggle with getting in all the Protein and fluids but have found the Fluid to be more important. Also someone here posted about GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder and it has been a godsend. It has 30 grams of protein in a small scoop. I mix that into refried Beans, chili or eggs and that way I get the protein grams in even if I can't eat 3 full meals. -
Also, someone posted here about GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder with 30 grams of protein. I had a hard time finding thing I could tolerate at first. By adding the GenePro to the yogurt or cottage cheese I got to my protein goals.

November 2015 Sleevers?
robin45 replied to goddess977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 11/23. HW 240, SW 232 CW 199. I can start full diet this week, but honestly I have had no urge or tolerance to go beyond yogurt, Fairlife milk, cottage cheese and Genepro protein mixed into tea and water. I can tolerate 1-2 tablespoons of anything, but since I can't eat more than that, I usually don't bother preparing anything. The one thing I have found super easy to go down is cocktail shrimp. I had zero pain after surgery, but significant nausea. I returned to work 4 days after surgery. I struggle more with getting in the RDA of 4700 mg of potassium than anything else, and have to drink low sodium V8 to even get halfway there. I haven't started exercising in earnest yet, and other than trying to get my daily steps up, I'm not pushing until the weight loss slows down because my calories still haven't made it over 500 per day and I am pretty weak. While I miss the social aspect of eating and drinking a little, I have zero regrets. At 2.4 pounds per week average loss for the past 3 weeks, my loss is slower than some, but steady, and I will be thrilled if I end up at goal around a year. -
Unflavored protein powder
triciakae replied to glitterpockets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 months out and I tried unflavored unjury. Ewwww I gagged on it. I heard about GENEPRO and ordered some. It was a life saver for me during pureed phase. To me it was tasteless and I couldn't smell it either. A little bit goes a long way. My nutritionist approved it also. She also said that Premier Protein shakes are the wrong type of protein and our bodies only absorb about half the protein you drink. I didn't know that at first and I was drinking them and felt completely exhausted all day. The Syntrax flavored Proteins are pretty good. They are pretty sweet thought but for unflavored I would suggest Genepro. -
2nd week post op smoothie ideas?
A New KK replied to melk86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said not to use a straw because it adds air to your intestinal tract causing bloating and gas pain. I found an unflavored Protein powder GENEPRO that I've been using to add to broth because I was bored with Protein shakes. I didn't find a cinnamon bun flavored one on amazon that wasn't too bad and to up the protein I added greek yogurt to my shakes. -
My head is so foggy I can't get my **** together. Help, please?
Runner1 replied to glitterpockets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry for you loss. Please consider getting some therapy to assist you through the grieving process because you will have a hard time after the surgery. Best to work out all your issues prior to the surgery. Also, on the Vitamins and Protein, I used the MD Vitamin Patches for multivitamins and get the Vitamin D, and Calcium chewables from Amazon.com. I did not have to take an Iron supplement. As for protein, I love the Bluebonnett whey protein with Almond Milk. I order it from Amazon.com as well. The best thing to do is to try different ones prior to your surgery so you can find one that works for your taste buds. Although, after the surgery your tastebuds will more than likely change. I also use the GENEPRO unflavored protein. To me, it has no flavor. I sprinkle in everything. -
Unflavored protein powder
Yaberhoo replied to glitterpockets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was asking about GENEPRO on here. Is there any taste? Does it mix well? I have a few varieties of Syntrax powders and they just don't seem to get smooth, no matter what temp I use. Right now I am using premier Protein ready to drink shakes. I don't do so well with protein and need/want something that completely disappears(or as much as possible). Thanks! There is a small taste as nothing is truly tasteless but it can be hidden. It mixes very well under 140 degrees. -
