Weight loss first two weeks
PuraVida37 replied to Stellagettinghergrooveback21's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the 3 week stall in week 2. Stayed the same for an entire week. Now in Week 5 I'm moving down pretty well. It's not a race. Just do what they told you and slow and steady wins out. -
When Will I Stop Regretting Having This Done?
Izuri replied to TiredOfChubRub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
31 pounds - you are doing awesome! Are you noticing differences in your clothes? And you are in onederland! Has it been a while since you've seen those numbers? Man, I can't wait to. I know you're having a really hard time, and it sounds simply like it's awful right now. Have you tried many different types of shakes? Drinking faster/slower? Are you getting in Water? When I start getting low blood sugar I start feeling nauseous about eating. Are you getting enough in? I'm sure it's tough with the nausea. Are you prescribed anything for nausea? Maybe your doctor can send you in a script for something. I agree with others that maybe you should get your blood work checked. Also, are you on a PPI? I'm not sure if acid can cause nausea, but it seems like it's possible. I admit, even 5 weeks out I'm freaking exhausted often. I am getting all my Protein, water, etc, and I feel simply beat at the end of the day. But I try and remind myself that I will have energy once I am further out, eating more, and healthier. There was a time when I was stuck on my 3 week stall that I started to regret it, but now that I'm losing again, it was totally worth it. Most of all, you rock. You are strong for getting this surgery and for going through these hard times and when you come out on the other side you will be so proud saying to yourself "I MADE IT" So keep up the great work, see if you can get something for nausea, and hang in there. -

Only losing 1lbs a day
CC197823 replied to nikki1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 month 5 days post op and down 34 pounds since surgery. I was lucky enough to skip the 3 week stall but now it makes me even more anxious and nervous for when my first one hits. There are so many things that can affect this like everyone says...my doc has us on a full month of liquid which could be the reason I skipped the 3 week stall. Also I have quite a bit to lose. So many factors that change person to person. Anyway thankful for my progress, I really am enjoying this "honeymoon" stage. -
August 2011 sleevers get in here!!!!!!
Toyia replied to blackmikeg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on Aug. 8th. I am down 19 lbs since surgery. I am in a 3 week stall right now. I hope things change soon. So far, I have been able to eat everything that I have tried. I still get hungry but not as often as I use to. I am able to drink and I don’t have to sip, sip, sip. I am on soft foods. I spend most of my day eating, drinking, or taking vitiams…but I am still having a hard time getting in my Protein. I hate Protein shakes. I didn’t have a problem pre-surgery…but now I can’t take them. They all make me feel sick. I walk 30 mins a day and I just started playing and working out using my Xbox 360. I feel so much better when I exercise, but it’s still hard for me to get started. I still have some pain on my left side, but it is getting better every day. I like to wear things that support my stomach – such as spanx. I am just starting to feel like my old self again. I don’t feel smaller, but my family tells me that I look younger and they can see it in my face. I am already starting to see a difference in my health, my high blood pressure meds have been reduced and I think I will be off all of my pills soon. I love my sleeve and I will be so happy when my stall is over. I am 6 pounds away from onederland. I didn’t know that August sleevers had a weekly check in thread, I am going to have to check that out. -
Lower starting BMI and weightloss
bostonmama replied to RJrocks's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just had my surgery on Oct 5th, but I was was around 37 BMI on the day of surgery. I lost about 30 lbs from the start of my pre op diet until 2 week post op. I've been in the infamous 3 week stall since then (16 days). -
IV fluid weight gain and 3 week stall
SalOdyssey replied to Kindle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The weight gain from IV and swelling, Water retention are pretty obvious things with any procedure. The 3 week stall, while unexplained I think it's the bodies why of responding like WTF just happened? -
I feel the same way. Sleeved 12/19 and I'm down 50lbs from my starting weight but my weight loss keeps stalling. Like 2, 3 week stalls so far [emoji30] I guess there is no "normal" in this so I just keep trucking along. Good luck to you!
-
Just about everyone hit a 3 week stall, after that there is no rhyme or reason from what I can tell. Everyone just stalls when their body needs time to readjust. I am just about 5 months post op and the only stall I saw so far was at 3 weeks.
-
I had the 3 week stall too, but it does break. Mine lasted about a week, but since then I have been consistently losing. You got this, just keep going! [emoji2] Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

DownInSocal replied to Claire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad you came to talk about your feelings. I hope you stay around! All bodies are different. For example I lost a lot of weight right after surgery and now I am going on a 3 week stall. I was crying last night over it. Even my husband was like you will start to lose weight again, how can you not? You eat 4 oz of food! I promise hon it is going to happen. Your body has been through so much. Have faith and love yourself. -
Is 3 week stall an urban myth?

Ok. First ((hugs)). Second. Let's have a reality lesson and do some math. If you are watching my 600lb Life, turn it the fuc* off! Seriously. Very few of us will lose 25-50lbs a month--even if you weigh over 300lbs. We just won't! There is no quick, overnight way (short of amputation), to get below 200lbs overnight. So settle back and establish your very own "best practices." Third. 37lbs in 9 weeks is what you are describing to me. So let's take 37lbs and divide by 9. You are losing 4.11lbs/week. PLUS there is always a "3 week stall" post surgery that can come on any time between week 2 and week 6-8. It can last 1-2 weeks. My RD told me I will lose between 2-3lbs per week at the start. It will slow as I approach goal. She said, expecting anything more than that sets us up for disappointment, disillusionment, and dissatisfaction/depression. She told me to ALWAYS follow the rules for my food stage: water/hydration/vitamins as scheduled for each day; and low fat protein first at every meal. If there is room, a bite or two of low carb veggies. If more room, then a bite or two of low carb fruit. Eat 3 meals and 2-3 scheduled snacks a day until you can eat enough at each meal to only eat 3 meals without over-stuffing your new anatomy. No drinking with meals or for 45 minutes after meals. Fourth. Track every bite lick and taste that goes down your piehole. Religiously weigh and measure and track!!! Don't cheat yourself. A bite eaten in the dark, standing up over your sink in the middle of the night STILL counts! She promised me if I did that, I would lose the weight. But if you have any doubts, go see your PCP about a low thyroid and also have them test for your B1 levels. Many of us obese and WLS patients have low B1 and it makes all the difference!!!

BARELY any weight loss in first two weeks??
summerseeker replied to MaameWata's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Many people on here have said they are weighing heavier after their surgery and say its because they are pumped full of water to hydrate them for the weeks after when its tough to drink for many. So you are really lucky that you have no issues there. Water can weigh heavy so just give it time and this will pass! You feel like you are failing., Please don't. How many calories a day are you logging ? If you could have compared yourself to me at the same stage, I was lucky to get in 300 a day. I was so ill. My body was hanging onto every calorie it could get hold of. People were racing ahead of me BUT, in the end it didn't matter, as I healed my weight dropped. I got to where I am now happy with myself. Listen to the nurse, give yourself 6 months to a year to do this. Its not magic. You have to put lots of effort in to get to the weight you desire. You may also be in a early version of the dreaded 3 week stall. Hang in there and keep away from the scales if you can. -
What is your target caloric weight post-op (to lose, not to maintain)
ClareLynn replied to stardust82's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
My doctor never gave me goals or macros, beyond "eat protein first, stop when you aren't hungry anymore, don't eat on a schedule, eat only when hungry". That's been working well for me. I've lost 170lbs total, 120 of which is post surgery, and I'm still slowly losing. Most days I get 700-900 calories a day, though I don't track unless I hit a 3+ week stall. I'm not sure what to do when I get to maintenance but then again I'm not sure when I should stop losing anyway. I'm 5'7" at at 161lbs (large frame) and while I look fine in clothes, when I see myself naked with all the extra skin, I can't decide if I am still overweight, too skinny or what since I'm bony all over but also comically saggy and wrinkled. I don't like stressing out about it though so I'll just keep doing this until either my surgeon tells me to eat more or I get hungry enough to naturally go into maintenance I guess? -

First things first... Prayers to u and your mom JPT! Speedy recovery! To the rest of you... Keep your heads up... I'm down 5 pounds since first fill! ( march 11 ) After the 3 week stall in weight loss it feels amazing to see the scale move again! Hip hip hooray! Lol -
OMG i am in the same boat as all of you i have been at a stand still for a week, and i am 3 weeks out myself, but its ok because i have read on here 100 times we are at the 3 week stall, and as far as eatting , i know i need to slow down, if i take 1 more bite it comes right back up, i threw up maybe 5 days in a row, not for eatting to much , i was eatting to fast, i need to SLOW down............................
-
For the first 4 weeks I had many days where I regretted it. I was throwing up daily, it hurt to even drink & to add insult to injury I had a 3 week stall. I felt like I'd made the biggest mistake in my life......BUT I'm 6 weeks out now & these last 2 weeks have been soooo much better & the stall has ended & I'm down 40 lbs & feel so much better! I can't wait to see all the amazing things my future holds!!!

September Surgery Buddies!!
vikingbeast replied to happilylacey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There's absolutely no way 600-700 calories wouldn't lead to loss in an adult. Stalls happen! You might want—this is such perverse logic but it works for some people—to increase your calories by 100-150 just for a week. It won't be enough to put you anywhere near maintenance, but it might break the stall. I broke my 3-week stall with the help of a dietitian by adding 100 calories of carbohydrate. To @CtotheTina - the 3-week-stall is legendary around here. It happens to most people and there are almost 20,000 posts on this site alone about it. It's your body getting used to the new normal and doing some fluid rebalancing. It will break within a week or two, just keep following your program. -
September Surgery Buddies!!
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to happilylacey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'll echo what others have said: the 3 week stall is REAL. There are THOUSANDS of posts here from folks who stall somewhere between week 3-6 for 1-3 weeks, sometimes more. Your body is likely rebounding from surgery and catching up with all the changes. Give it time, be patient, stay the course, follow your plan. It won't last forever, and it will happen again. Its all just part of the process. If its taxing you mentally, maybe take a week or two break from the scale. Take body measurements for a couple weeks instead, or use photos to track progress. Remember that the scale is only ONE measure of progress, other things can be just as valuable. Lastly, a TRUE stall is generally considered 3+ weeks; 4 days is absolutely nothing. You're right where you're supposed to be! -
3rd week post op and only lost one lb...
fern replied to 2bslimkim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may have not lost much weight, but your body shape is probably slimming still. During my 3 week stall ( which was in week 2), I lost a full pant size!!! It was awsome!! Made the lack of weight loss okay for me. It'll settle I'm sure. Your body is just probably wondering what the heck you did to it. -
I think the reason people post the same question over and over is they want to express their feelings/frustrations/joys and want a personalized response. I'm guilty of that myself--I posted something about a 3 week stall yesterday. I did search beforehand, and voraciously read a good number of threads about stalls. I didn't feel that it was appropriate to just add my post as a reply to someone else's prior post.
