    Help… I cheated on Pre-op diet TWICE!

Yes I did cheat on my Pre-Op diet but mine was 2 weeks long so it somehow didn't hurt me as much. With your 1 week long pre-Op diet, I would suggest you speak to your nurse and make sure not to cheat again. Or ask them to give you a 2 weeks pre-Op diet that many of us go through and manage with some ups and downs in the beginning. I hope it works out for you. 😊

    Itchy Incisions

I'm just shy of three months post-op, and the incisions still itch like crazy.

Day 10 of my new life

I'm sorry you've had a rocky start, Summerseeker, and hope you're on a upward trajectory now. My instinct would be to stay on the liquids for that second week, purely because your start was so rough. Give your system the gentlest easing into the pureed stage. Are you able to take your medicine and vitamins now that the foamies have subsided?
  4. My first 9 days post surgery were quite traumatising. I was not ready for the sleep depravation and symptoms of a swelling in my new stomach. I had constant foamies, all day and night for 9 days. I was honking foam like a over powdered washing machine. I have been unable to take my medicines and vitamins In a fashion all I have managed to eat/ drink is squash, broth and coffee [ I am allowed] Day 10 arrives and I feel better. I tried some well pureed ramen broth with chicken and vegetables and later that day a banana milkshake with peanut butter added. I am allowed to drink milk instead of protein shakes, just adding extra dried milk powder and to it. Protein shakes are expensive in the Uk and unless I have to I will stay on milk. I need to work on getting a breakfast into my regime. At the moment it may be another milkshake but its getting my liquid content up too. I feel like I am a week behind my peers. So I will do a week of these liquids before moving to the next staging post. I have no hunger and get full signals on so little liquid, About 4 oz. Should I continue with the soup/ milkshake at a later time ? Or call it eating over Any help gratefully received

Generally the average daily recommended amount of sugar an adult woman should consume each day is 24g but we should be consuming a less while losing. Check with your nutritionalist as to what she requires as plans are different. I wasn’t given a specific maximum amount not to exceed. Some protein shakes have a lot of sugar so you’ll have to shop around to find the ones you like with the lowest sugar content. I only had to have shakes for the first two weeks post surgery. I wasn’t overly worried about sugar (or fat or carbs) those first two weeks but then I wasn’t eating much anyway -<300 calories. I only had one a day & a serve of soup/broth so not a big issue really. Once I stared purées I was very vigilant. But again check with your nutritionalist about this. While losing I only ate meat, dairy, vegetables & fruit so the only sugar I had was in yoghurt & the naturally occurring sugar in milk & fruit. I still keep my sugar low & continue to avoid things with added sugar, articulate sweeteners or sugar alternatives as much as I can. But that’s my choice now. You’ll discover that everyday you’ll decide what you’ll eat based upon the food’s nutrient value. Checking the sugar, fats, carbs, protein content & keeping a running total of how much you’re eating as the day progresses becomes a daily part of your life & will influence your food choices throughout the day. Reach your maximum sugar in the morning then avoid it for the rest of the day. Oh, and while dumping is uncommon with gastric sleeve it can happen & sugar is often the cause. So tread carefully. All the best.
  6. I had my surgery about five years ago and maintained a loss of about 50 pounds after that, far short of my goal. I'm also diabetic, so was put on Ozempic for that about six or seven months ago and have experienced the appetite suppressant effects of that, very useful. So I started losing quite slowly with that, and then, on the advice of the psychologist my diabetes doctor recommended, I signed up for Noom about a month ago. I was very skeptical but I am kind of a convert now, as I've lost another ten pounds or so with it. It's on my phone and while there are psychologically-based lessons and support groups to post to, what I find most useful are the daily weigh-ins and food tracking (on some phones it will also track your steps, but my knees are shot and walking is not my thing--I swim for exercise, just not enough). You enter what you eat and the program keeps track of the (estimated) calories; I have a 1200-calorie daily limit. The program is very supportive and recognizes that this isn't a straight-line process. We do better some days than others. But I'll admit that I think twice about eating something caloric when I'm at or near (or over!) my daily limit. I'll add that a side effect of the Ozempic I'm on is that on the day I take it and the day after (it's a once-a-week shot), I've learned to be very, very careful about what I eat. The side effects if I have something carby are not pleasant, let me just say without further details!

    Post op day 4 vomiting

Sorry to hear this. According to my nutritionist, vomiting is not normal. Was there something that precipitated it? Circumstances? I had vomiting for weeks and could try to help. Call your doctor’s exchange if after hours. GL!
  8. @MsTina1984 - Hi surgery buddy! At least we know we’re not alone on the struggle bus. I hope your surgery goes smoothly. @smanky - I couldn’t imagine doing this for more than a week, there’s no way I’d get through on so little food. I’m a runner and it’s killing my mental health not to be running this week. I’m glad to hear that this is the hardest part. It really is only 3 more days. I really just was looking for reassurance that this was the difficult bit. Thank you.
  9. Your pre-op diet definitely sounds stricter than most, but at least it's only for a week. A week of hell, but still only a week (mine was two weeks, some go for three or even four!). It may be a similar diet to the milk diet some are put on? Basically a starvation diet to shrink the liver. I'm sorry it's such a tough one for you! The pre-op diet is 100% the HARDEST part of the WLS journey, and no one has a good time doing it. Just remember: It's not forever! You've got 3 days to go. Find something, anything to distract yourself and keep your water up!

    This surgery is bullshit...

Pay attention to the measurements not the scale. Also switch up on what you eat to trick your body out of the stall but with healthy stuff

Anyone else struggling with panic post-op?

Post-Op racing heart can also be dehydration. Dehydration reduces your blood pressure and shoots up your heart rate. So have to make sure to take sufficient fluids. That's my only concern first week. Other than that, I am taking it a day at a time and hoping things fall in place. But definitely there may be multiple concerns each of us may have down our journey. Just have to make sure not to go into any negative mindset because what is done is already done. Surgery is over and you can't undo. So make the best of what you can and focus on your end goal. 😊

I hate that I had this surgery

i was the same, I am now nearly 5 months out and finally feeling so much better( I got that bad I was put in hospital on suicide watch) then sent 6 weeks on my sisters couch. It gets better I didnt believe it when people would tell me that but it doe. your hormones are most likely going haywire ATM too. given the choice again knowing what i know now would i do it again probably not but we cant turn back time but in saying that i would still be over 100kg instead of 77kg. I still have bad moments/days but it does get better. P.S. I too am wondering about the OP hope she is doing ok

    Gastric Bypass Yesterday

Yes I am - Today is Day 3 post-Op and almost painless except for some lingering bit. Thank you for asking. I hope you're doing just as well 2 weeks in.
  14. I know it’s been discussed, but just wondering if anyone has advise for sagging arms or loose skin? I’m not even to surgery yet and already have worsening of the flabby arm skin. Besides plastic surgery are there any particular exercises, sleeves, etc that may help? I do CrossFit 3xa week and walking other days. So I do lift weights in combo with cardio. Just thinking ahead and maybe can figure something out to help along the way. Also, what about garments, lotions, supplements etc??? Just a thought.  Thanks!

    Pre op Diet - Help!

don't panic! The pre-op diet was hard. I found that it was easier for me if I kept busy and drank a lot of sugar free beverages. Maybe try some peppermint tea, or other herbal tea, either plain or with Splenda/Stevia? Also, make sure you have all the things you will need for the first week or so after surgery. Like, get some protein drinks, clean your home because it will be hard to bend/move for a time, do your laundry, pay your bills, etc. Best of luck!
  16. I still get niggling pains now and yes I still have a moment of panic about it, but never feel embarrassed about getting checked out. its better to get it checked and you be fine rather than not get checked and it be something. take notice when it happens too. I find when i am active i get random pain and i guess its because i did nothing but be curled up in a ball on my sisters couch for 8 weeks after surgery ( yes I was that bad ) that in healing i now may have scar tissue that now gets aggravated when i do any activity

    its been a while

Hi everyone i just wanted to check in say after three plus years maintain weight and activity level is through the roof staying very busy i will start checking in more often hope all well with all of you cheers
  18. That's super useful - thank you! I'm just over 2 weeks and well into pureed phase. JoyLilith I can drink water pretty quickly too, and have been able to since day 2 or 3 after the surgery. 30 minutes for a protein shake or smoothie sounds perfect to me.
  19. I suspect that this is incision pain, related to the fact that your abdominal muscles were cut and need time to heal. I had this pain for about 6 weeks almost. It might not be where the actual external incision is. It was very uncomfortable! I didn't start having pain from eating too much/too fast until I was eating solid foods; I could drink a ton of liquids/broths/etc, but when I started with solid foods I would feel the chest fullness (that got better!) and now I get hiccups when I eat too much/too fast.

    This surgery is bullshit...

I felt what I thought was hunger too, like my stomach was screaming for food! I think it might have actually just been thirst...? My surgeon acted like I was crazy when I told her I felt hunger all the time, she was no help. I found that if I drank some warm tea or bone broth, the feeling went away. And boy oh boy, the head hunger! For the first few months after surgery, all I did was fantasize about food, watch cooking videos, scroll through recipes on My Fitness Pal. I'm a little over 3 months out now, and that has stopped (thank goodness!). I think it's all a learning process. Also, over Thanksgiving week, I was eating over 1,000 calories a day, and my body loved it - I had been at a plateau for a couple of weeks and dropped 5 lbs in a couple of days when I was eating more. Maybe just experiment with yourself and see what works/helps. Try different things, switch it up a little. Good luck and be kind to yourself! Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. My RNY-RNY revision is now scheduled for December 21. I am so ready! I just hope that it doesn't get postponed due to COVID. I was told that all of the hospitals in my area are full due to COVID patients, but the clinic is reevaluating the surgery schedule week by week.

    November 2021 surgeries

Have you discussed the stall with your NUT? Perhaps a bit more fat in your diet... hard to say what the contributors are but often (for me) it is muscle gain and according to my nut, try a few more fat grams to kick you out of it. I did stall for 3 days... no movement on the scale and I was like damn... gave here a quick txt and she said alter something about your diet so I did and walla... I'm out of it. Wish you all the best.
  23. I get foam...... Its destroying. I have learned a new sign when to stop this week though - my nose runs

Had surgery 11/29: a new life starts

On this forum it doesnt matter that we live out of America. I am from the UK. We are all at some part of our lives in the same boat. Have the same hopes and fears and expectations. The best part is the people on here go back years and have so much knowledge. Its so comforting. I love raw fish, the rice is 2nd My first meal will be quality raw fish in 5 weeks. I may only eat a little bit but boy oh boy will I enjoy the experience. Good luck
  25. Everything has gone by so fast. I had my gastric bypass on Monday 11/29. I'm Finnish so I did my surgery in Finland. Everything went well and the nurses were amazing, the whole experience was loving and calm. I feel extremely grateful for that. On Tuesday I could go home after getting in my 1000 ml of liquids. I never felt nausea, pain or discomfort why drinking and I tried to walk as much as I could. Gas pain was very difficult Wednesday and Tuesday. It's slowly leaving now, Friday. I've taken pain meds every evening and sometimes during the day if I get pain, but I'm trying to manage with the little pain I have. I'm excited for what's to come, it feels like a huge life changing moment, which it of course is. I'm scared and anxious as well; what if I never can eat a piece of sushi again, my absolute favourite food? What if I can't travel and enjoy the food? Food is such a big part of our lives and has so much to do with our social life and culture. I know it's worth it, I know this surgery is for me and for my future, for my health. But it's still scary. That's why I love going on here and reading everything. It gives me so much comfort to know there's so many people all over the world going through a similar experience. I'm gonna start weighing myself after two weeks after surgery, giving myself time to heal and rest for now. Here are some stats that I can look back on in the future. HW: 308 lb (140 kg) Operation weight: 291 lb (132kg) GW: in-between 130-150 lb Sent from my KB2003 using BariatricPal mobile app
