    Day 15 post op

Milk is a good thinner too. If the yogurt and other thick things hurt then don't do them yet! Listen to your body. It wont hurt to let the swelling go down some more before you try the thicker things- and meanwhile milk will both thin yogurt, pudding, and even cream Soups and add Protein.

Thanks everyone....Renee, I too am a Dr Aceves patient and am only allowed the 2 oz, I know I couldn't even do 1 oz of yogurt yet.. I am okay w/this, it's just different than my band and was unexpected. With my band, I had no issues w/yogurt or even cottage cheese at this point. I can now see why people lose so quickly..I am now down 22lbs in 16 days. I am still so tremendously happy to have that band out of me, I think I can handle almost anything. I just need to get some more Protein shakes..I have been living off the Premeire Protein RTD from costco and Special K Protein H20. I appreciate all of you!!! Erika
  4. Hey everyone- I had my band to sleeve revision on May 30th..I've lost 20lbs and am feeling great. Today, being Day15, I am allowed yogurt, SF pudding, etc... I bought some greek yogurt and took a couple of VERY small bites of it and it had a hard time going down. I could feel it sitting there and it took several minutes to go down and was mildly uncomfortable. I gave up and went back to my protein shake. Like everyone else, I want to know if this is normal?? Should I just stick w/the shakes until it's easier, or just very, very slowly eat the yogurt? It was a 4 oz container and would probably take me at least an hour to eat..
  5. i have taken prescription zegerid for several years due to acid reflux and I am not allowed back on it, unless I open it and put in yogurt or sf pudding. I took it twice a day. The surgeon put me on pepsid twice a day and it helps and it's a tiny little pill. I can't wait to get back on my zegerid though. I also take chewable Gas-x. Unfortunately the dissolvable gas-x isn't strong enough. I have to take like 3 or 4 of them to get the same as the chewable gas-x.

    Day 15 post op

I used heavy cream to thin out the greek yogurt. While it has more Protein in it, it's very thick and just kinda sat there in my tummy. meh...didn't feel great at all. The heavy cream gave it a nice creamy texture. Milk is something that I can't have because it bothers my tummy A LOT, but the fat in heavy cream kind of "buffers" it in the tummy and it was fine. I also wouldn't try to eat 4 ounces yet...if ever. I'm allowed 2 ounces but that's after healing, not while I'm swollen still. I can tell you this, after a few bites, I'm done. I can't eat any more and I can't sit there for an hour and wait for it to go down. I put it away until my next meal.

    Bites

Why did you think you could manage 1/4 cup? It definitely depends on what you are eating. I could pretty easily do 2 oz. of cottage cheese or yogurt when I first started my puree stage, but tuna and chicken... yeah... maybe three bites and I was done!

Manitoba - Date confirmed June 24th

Sister C it occurs to me that you may be feeling hungry early because you are eating foods that are able to slip through the opening to your larger stomach. You really need to be concentrating on getting enough hard Protein (chicken, fish, beef, pork or legumes if you are vegetarian). The softer foods like yogurt, Jello, puddings are not going to stay in the upper stomach long enough for you to feel full. You may want to touch base with your clinic dietician to review your intake - and then get another fill if you are still not reaching satiety. Good luck - it does take time. Cindy

    Greek Yogurt weird question

I have this weird texture issue thing where I can't even look at the Water that forms at the top of sour cream (gagging just thinking about it). The Greek yogurts I have bought have all had this same water substance on top. Does anyone know of a brand that doesn't separate like this?

    Throwing up 2 days out

i called the surgeon, he told me not to worry but to stay away from yogurt since that was the last thing i ate before i thru up. He said all the other things i'm eating are okay. I just was a little nervous that things were happening to me that my husband did not experience.

    Sweet spot or too tight??

If you can only eat a 1/2 Dannon yogurt I would say you are too tight. Also, if you are leaning towards liquids only that is another sign you are too tight. The band is meant to give you restriction but by eating real food. I would call your dr!

    Is this normal?

I'm like 4 days post op(Had surgery July 29th)....7 days on liquids...and I'm just not hungry. I'm mind hungry tho and I'm taking my vitamins/protein shakes...but I'm wondering if I'd be able to step it up and go into my soft foods...I'm thinking about making chicken and veggies and then blending them together in a really thin gravy I can put on mashed potatoes so I'm getting some kind of nutrients. And I'm not sure if I have restriction because...I am just not hungry at all...all I had yesterday was 6 oz. water, 8 oz apple juice, and 3 werthers hard candies. And I barely noticed. I'm looking forward to trying milk...as I'm worried about my calcium intake as well...I have tried pudding and yogurt and both have gone down well...

    Tightness?

I finally have some restriction!!!!!! I went for my fill today and I now have 12.5cc in my 14cc band. My dr did it under floro and at first put in 1cc then I drank the stuff and it flew down, so he put another 2cc in. I have eaten really light today (yogurt, and mushie type stuff), but I think I feel tight. It feels almost like a knot in my stomach, but its in the upper part of my stomach. Is that what tightness feels like? Hopefully this will knock my numbers off the scale. My dh had his first fill today too, he had 2cc put in during surgery, and the dr said that he could only put in 3cc today, because the fluid was getting stuck. It's crazy the fluctuation in fills, I can't believe its taking me 12.5cc to feel anything!!!

    Lunch With a Friend

So I call up a friend from work and we agree to meet at a diner for lunch-it's around 1pm and all I have had so far was yogurt in the morning. I am hungry-I really want to eat and I feel as though I could eat (unlike mornings). Anyway this friend knows I have the band...I order a garden veggie egg beater omellet, fruit cup (instead of home fires) and no toast. Well, I could barely get 4 bites down. I had to ask for a to-go box and I ate 2-3 small pieces of fruit. I guess that wasn't a good choice for me. I am thinking eggs over light might go down better-geeze! Tonight we are going out for my daughter's birthday-I was going to do Hibachi -but no way can I do that and not stand out. Only thing I can eat is seafood and at night I can mange more.

Hello..new to the club and lost!

I also got banded on July 23rd! Today is the 28th and I feel pretty good. I still can not bend over and have some difficulty getting out of bed, but other than that, I feel pretty good. I am on liquid still for three weeks before I start puree food. I am drinking chicken broth, Water, and Protein shakes. I got a book with all sorts of protein recipes in it. I also am eating low carb yogurt, sugar free pudding and Jello. I am having a hard time getting my protein in because I get full and then do not drink for a while. I have lost 12 pounds since the 23rd. Good luck and I hope you get better soon!
  16. I'm in the same boat now. So sick of protein drinks ugh. I got some light yogurt and some creamy soups ( clam chowder) to change things up
  17. Don't think I've lost a ton in my 3 month supervised diet but I have been saying goodbye to my "friends" pizza, pastas, corndogs, fries, soda etc I wish I could say I've followed a strict diet but I know I'm going to do great after surgery... It's nice to "part" with these foods and go on with my life! I have to say I have fallen in love with Greek yogurt especially Fage and will eat that for dessert any day! Yum! I love watermelon and my Nut says its fine since its not junk and a great source of Water so I eat that for Snacks. I love tacos and have omitted the shell and just crumbled three tortilla chips on for crunch...I had jaw surgery last year and was on soft foods for over 6 months...I have to have crunch up until this surgery lol

    Maintenance meal ideas, please

Thanks for the input, Denise. I am a big fan of Greek yogurt. I put soynuts and SF syrup in it. I can tolerate fruit and will see if I can get at least 2 servings of that a day.

    Never Full?

Ditto what Jess and Eileen said. I was always either starving or stuffed. A lot of that had to do with the fact that my job is so crazy that I would go most of the day without stopping to eat (huge mistake), and by the time I walked in the door I was so hungry that I could eat a horse (well ,maybe not a horse, but there were days when my dog wasn't safe-HA HA) Now that I have this band, I force myself to STOP for 15 minutes in the middle of the day to have a protein bar or shake, I do not walk out the door without having had some sort of breakfast- a scrambled egg or yogurt, and I eat dinner, but even pre-fill I can't do much at dinner. I just returned from lunch with my hubby and I ordered an 8 oz. prime rib (YUMMY). I had 5 small bites, 3 bites of potato, 2 cooked baby carrots, and about 1/3 of a dinner salad. I felt very full and have at least 2 more meals left from this in the fridge. To me, this was a pig-out now that I have my band!!! You should have seen what it was in the old days! The lap-band was the perfect procedure for me. I was never a food obsessed type of person, and have always made pretty good food choices. My probelm was that I could eat and eat and eat (all night long and all weekend), and no matter how healthy the food is that you are eating, too much of it is always going to make you heavy. I can no longer eat very much, and I do feel full. Not stuffed, but full.
  20. I'm not actually blending anything. It just sounds gross to me to eat liquified meat. I eat yogurt, thick Soups, low fat cottage cheese, hummus, thick Protein drinks, etc.
  21. Ok I think im gonna try this bc its **** in my chest damn yogurt and crap dont hurt in my belly but when I swallow its like right n my chest my girlfriend said YES THATS GAS Iwas so relieved soooooooooo I have this damn gas x I guess I should use it smh lol

    not hungry?

while I was getting adjusted to the green zone my doctor insisted I eaat 3 meals of solid food a day. now that I have reached the green zone eating isn't of concern. I told her that I have a green protein smoothie in the morning and she was all okay with it. lunch I frequently am not hungry for so cottage cheese, yogurt, protein bar etc. but I always sit down and have a good dinner. the only concern I have is getting the protein in that I need. sometimes though I am always hungry so I am playing mind games to get through the day.

    Something new

Some natural/Greek yogurt? Maybe with a drizzle of honey?
  24. Hey all! Last Tuesday, I reached the beginning of the Phase 2 diet. I've been told that I can eat eggs (boiled, scrambled), non-fat yogurt, non-fat jello (I'm honestly not sure if that includes the gelatin and pudding...any suggestions?); cottage cheese; pureed Lentil soup; cooked and canned vegetables and fruit; applesauce; mashed avocado; squash soup; and mashed bananas. I don't eat Squash and Bananas as I've always hated the taste. Did anyone else find this phase a bit, well, confusing? I legitimately can only eat a few spoonfuls of any of this at any one time. For instance today, I have had about 3 or 4 mini-spoonfuls of yogurt, a cup of mandarin oranges in 100% juice, cottage cheese, and a few pieces of warmed sourdough bread. Yesterday, I attempted to eat scrambled eggs with a cauliflower thin and it did not go well I'm also having a very difficult time keeping up with the correct fluid intake. Quite frankly, I'm sick of water. And the sweetness of Crystal Light can become overwhelming after a while. Next week I can begin eating (or trying to eat) shrimp and crab legs. I'm actually really excited. Despite these little obstacles, I have lost 29 pounds since my surgery date on 3/23 I really was just looking for a place to vent and accept any suggestions/positive feedback if possible.

    slow loser

The soup isn't too shocking, it's liquid, similar to yogurt. I can eat far more yogurt than dense protein. I ate a 5.3oz cup of yogurt this morning and was still hungry. For lunch I ate 2-2.5oz of meat and was full for hours. I can drink way over a cup an hour of water and I don't eat soup but if I did it would be the same. If you are following your "rules" sticking to the consistency recommended, starting with protein and eating vegetables if still hungry, taking your time, drinking a minimum of 65oz of water a day and taking in a minimum of 60g of protein a day and most importantly avoiding sliders than you are good. Maybe your loss isn't what you hoped for, but even if you are losing 2# a week you are doing great. Just stay consistent, watch your empty calories and sliders, stay hydrated and follow your rules. If you have access to a nutritionist utilize them, document on my fitness pal and get friends off here so you can see their food journals.
