  1. Hi All! I look forward to: 1. Going out to dinner without having to worry about whether my backside will fit in the seat and then when it barely fits, not worrying about standing up and still having the chair attached to my rear end! 2. Not being limited to wearing 'whatever fits' which are often hideous tents disguised as clothes 3. Bending over in the shower to shave my legs without my stomach getting in the way 4. Walking up a hill without feeling like I am going to have a heart attack and without sweating so much I look like I just got out of the shower 5. Flying and actually fitting in a seat, without a seatbelt extension and without having to pass on meals because the tray won't go down (even in business class sometimes!) 6. Not worrying if a car seat belt will fit me or not 7. Sitting in a booth seat without my breasts and the top of my stomach resting on the tabletop - so attractive!!!!! 8. Lying on my back without my breasts suffocating me up under my chin. 9. Sitting on my husband without potentially killing him! 10. .... and so, so, so much more! All the best to you all - may the forth be with you!

    Angry much?

To avoid all this I did not tell my coworkers or hardly anyone. I foresaw what would happen if I did. I also weighed 190 lbs and the few people who knew about my lap band consideration thought I was crazy and not a candidate at my weight. I had tried every single diet and nothing worked. When I hit the big 40, I am currently 41, everything, including my weight, went beserk on me. The best decision that I have made in a long time is getting the lap band. As of today, I am 40 lbs lighter and 15 lbs away from my goal. I am wearing a size 9/10 and sometimes 7/8. I am also wearing size medium tops. Who would've believed! My co-workers and clients are in awe and asking telling me how wonderful I look and asking me what diet i am following. I just smile and tell them, " I'm just exercising and eating right." I felt I didn't need to be scrutinized every step of the way, so I decided to keep it under wraps and I'm really glad I did.

    Buying the wrong size?

I have learned this lesson the hard way but I will say it took me a while and some money! I now wait until my current size is slightly lose and then I buy pants one size down. They are very tight but I know when I drop 10 pounds they will fit me great. Last week I was shocked when I went to try on a new packer sideline jacket. All the stuff I got in January I am swimming in including a brand New Jersey. Ugh! Anyway, I figured I would need a large instead of an xl. I tried on the large, too big. I tried on the medium thinking it would be too small. It fit perfect! Part of me was thinking maybe I should be thinking about a small but just could not get my head around that. Same thing with Victoria's Secret yoga pants. I bought extra large because there is no way, I also bought larges. The xl are too big and the large is even slightly baggy. I returned them both and ordered a medium. By the way, I started in a 26 for tops and a 24 for bottoms. Wow! I am now in a 12 comfortably.

    WoRk It BaBy!!!

Yeah work it!! You ARE a cutie pie! And wow I can really see a difference in a major way already!!! Good job!!! As for me and my workout, right now I can't sprinkle in my running that I oh so love. I have to settle for walking. Due to this I don't feel like I burn enough calories, so I have given myself a challenge to walk/or cycle 300 miles by Halloween. That's still not that much, and so far I've already got in 41 Miles. No, I haven't updated my ticker - I do that only once a day and I plan to do some in the early AM tomorrow. So really this is what I'm doing, give or take something here and there. And its usually more than what I'll say I'll do... but that's just because I'm a workout nut. Sunday: Cycling 10 Miles Monday: OFF DAY (however I still walked 3 Miles) Tuesday: Walking/Elliptical 5 Miles Wednesday: Walking/Elliptical 5 Miles Thursday: Walking/Elliptical 5 Miles Friday: Walking 2.5 Miles and Cycling 7.5 Miles Saturday: Cycling 10 Miles Good luck to you! The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
  5. Nah, not the same at all. Band wasn't really a great solution. Slow weight loss, and physical hunger didn't go away (which does during first 12-18 months VSG post op due to elimination of grellin (sp?) production. Plus, you gotta go see doc every month for adjustment (high on-going cost). And, as compared to GBP, with VSG you don't have the malabsorption and other longer term problems. Certainly, there will one day be some knew approach, but for now, I am told that for any 10 given WLS patients: 1-2 will be GBP, 2-3 may be BAND, but 6-8 will be VSG. -RC-

    Family Pizza Night

My family had pizza night last night too, and I'm 10 days post op. It's not pizza, but I went to Whole Foods and got this amazing Cream of Tomato soup. It tasted sooo delicious! Once I move to puréed foods, I'm going to make that ricotta bake that I see floating around. I know it's hard, but we can figure out a way to make this work and get healthy!

    Your favorite exercises?

A mixture of straight cardio (walk, run, row, bike, ski, swim...), strength training (weight lifting) and HIIT (high-intensity interval training). I do CrossFit (started when I was at my heaviest weight), but it is expensive and takes about a month to get used to the intensity. I have never been stronger, though. As an example, today's workout was bench press (10-8-6-4 reps at increasing weights), then what in CrossFit-speak is called an EMOM (every minute on the minute). Every 3 minutes, 15 calories on the stationary bike and 15 box jumps. Do that 5 times. It was probably only about 40 minutes worth of actual work including a 7-minute warmup, but it's intense.
  11. I had my surgery on the 10 th and so far so good, the water goes down fine but after drinking a 1/2 bottle of Isopure my stomach is blowed .. I feel so full .. Has anyone else experienced that?
  12. Hi everyone, I was banded 10/11/11. I just had my 2nd fill yesterday and have lost 35 lbs. I really messed up around Thanksgiving, ate too much of the wrong things. Then going out with co-workers at lunch just to get out of the office, and the first fill didn't last very long, and I was so hungry. I'm hoping this fill will last longer and will help me get back on track. I had bad news 11/2 - I was notified my job was being transferred overseas, but will still work through 12/30. After about a week, I stopped exercising and that mood lasted for about a month. Yesterday when I went in for my 2nd fill, I had only lost 3 lbs since the month before. At least it's in the right direction, but I know I can do better. So I just need to get back on track. I'm so glad I found this site! I think the journey will be much easier with support from other bandsters.

    Preop diet

My preop was bouillon, water, decaf tea, and protein shakes. Lost 10 pounds in two weeks.
  17. exercise is soooo important for your success. I know it is hard but try to fit in small 10 min sessions about 4 or 5 times per day. you can walk during your work breaks or at lunch take some bands along on your weekends. if you have a long trip stop at rest stops and walk walk walk. do jumping jacks or lunges etc. whether it is strength or cardio there are tons of short simple exercises that you can fit in. good luck to you.

READY TO THROW IN THE TOWEL

Hey Grace! Sorry things are going so slowly for you! I have been a slow loser without the surgery, as well as pretty slow since; sounds like you were able to lose weight more rapidly before. I also feel like time is moving SOOOOO slowly during this pandemic that it makes it even worse! I am sorry you feel so hungry. Have you tried eating your desired amount (say 2 oz. of protein plus some veggies;) waiting 10 minutes and if you still feel hungry slowly eating some more protein? If you fee "sated" that may make you less hungry for longer. Might be worth a try. For what it is worth, I am not filled up by the protein drinks, although i know some folks are. I also use a different kind of protein drink that does not use artificial sugars, so that may be why. As a result, I use the drink as an after dinner "snack"; if I feel particularly hungry I mix it with Fairlife milk (1/2 cup). Big protein hit, and stops me (usually) from other mindless snacking. Late night eating is my Achilles heel! My latest item I need to keep the heck out of my house is mixed nuts....I will try to "eat a handful" and before I know it I've blown 200 calories! Hang in there Grace; I hope the scale starts to move, the weather gets better, the pandemic ends, and all of our spirits start to lift!

    No More Staring!

As long you are happy, it's all that matters. I am happy for you. Keep up the good work. In my case, my boyfriend told me I look like a crackhead so now I am trying to gain a 10 lbs. I am too thin! Foreign language to me!
  20. Dr. JLo- First of all, I admire your work that I have seen on Big Medicine. I am such a fan! I have carried twins for 38 weeks (6.4 lbs. each), 19 months later had another c-section, all while having a pre pragnancy weight of 245. Needless to say I have quite an "apron". I feel comfortable with the way the rest of my body is shaping up through exercise. Okay so maybe I want some implants too. I have told myself that I wanted to be 170 before seeking out a PS. I am 5"5" and in a 18 (because I have to tuck in my stomach in my pants). The rest of me looks like a normal person now. It is hard to feel good about this much weightloss when I see that apron everytime I look in the mirror. How much weight in skin can be removed during a TT. When should I seek out a PS in your opinion? Can you recommend someone in DFW for a self pay? Thank you so much!

    Loose skin after surgery

There's really no way to tell. I think I got off lightly, and I've had 3 babies to boot, here's my stomach: I'd honestly say in all my years here, I've been one of the luckiest ones I know of (of those that share their pics, or talk about their skin!) I despair over my tummy periodically, I'll stand in the mirror, poking, pulling, planning tummy tucks etc but in reality I figure I'm 42 and nobody's forcing me into a bikini on the beach. I can always just not show it. I lost slowly and i did a lot of exercise - primarily running. I also had the foresight and good sense to choose parents that gave me good genes, and I think I chose pretty well in deciding to be 5ft 10 tall and basically well proportioned. When I got fat, I think I was sensible in deciding to carry it evently and not all on my stomach. I'm being silly of course. None of us have control over the factors that deterimine what our skin will do and very few of us will end up with the kind of skin we'd dream of - in reality we're ALL going to harbour some signs of having been fat enough for weight loss surgery. BUT - the only think I'd swap my life now for is to have never ever have gotten fat in the first place. My stomach wasnt worth showing BEFORE I had my surgery so is it really relevant whether it is after?
  22. I've been reading a lot of posts on this board, books, and anything I can get my hands on. I have a BMI of 58 (pre 10% weight loss before surgery) and it has been mentioned that doctors won't band someone with my BMI, even if I lose my 10%. I have no health conditions and I want to get this weight off before I develop any issues. I don't want to have bypass surgery because of the risks. Anyone out there who can help?

    3 days post-op VSG

I'm so glad your breastfeeding has continued! I found by 19 months with my third, I wouldnt have even had to nurse her on my sore stomach - I could have thrown her a boob from across the room, lol. She didnt even have to stop playing with her blocks!

    From the album: itstheamarie

This is me around my highest weight (236ish) compared to 10 weeks after surgery. At this point, I've technically only lost 20 lbs since surgery, but when I look at how far I've come overall, that's what really matters to me! I feel healthier and make much better choices than I used to! I recently changed my goal from 136 to 150 after having my body fat % measured and realizing that my lean body mass is 122 lbs, and I am wearing a size 10 dress in this pic at 190 lbs (5' 4").

    VITAMINS post op

I didn't use the Vitamins recommended by my surgeon. I've always preferred whole food based vitamins rather than chemically synthesized vitamins. Not only do they provide micronutrients and cofactors that you can't duplicate in a lab, mine have digestive enzymes and Probiotics for better absorption and overall GI health. I was using Source of Life Gold chewables before and immediately after surgery. But my tastes changed and I no longer liked the chewables. I switched to Garden of Life because they come in capsules and tablets. I currently take Vitamin Code for Women multi, Vitamin Code Raw D3, MyKind Organic Plant Calcium and Source Naturals methylcobalamin (B12) sublingual. I also used to take Vitamin Code Healthy Blood, but my labs showed high Iron at 6 months out so I stopped taking them. Labs been good ever since. The biggest thing is to make sure you follow through with annual bloodwork forever. Studies show that 40%-90% of gastrectomy patients develop deficiencies within 5, 10 and even 20 years postop. Iron, B12, D3, calcium, folate, zinc and magnesium are the biggest culprits.
