Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

Yes I'm roughly having 800 cals a day! I lost 5 percent of my weight just prior to this diet so yeah I get what you mean. I'm really hoping next week I will see a result but if not I'm concerned. I guess it is slightly brutal but I will do anything to get that surgery! Thanks for replying x

    HUNGRY

Its brutal and you need to grit your teeth and get through it. I cried like a baby in my second week. I would cheerfully strangle the SOB who put me on it. I must say I directed some bad vibes his way. I did it though and would never do it again. Good luck

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

I cant believe in yet another version of the diet. Have you tracked it calorie wise. Mine was 3 weeks and didnt get more than 800 cals a day If you have lost weight in this run up then you will already have lost your water weight. Some people dont loose weight and their liver has been reduced enough for surgery. You should have gone with bricks in your pockets to bump up your weight and gained a big loss when you needed it. It seems brutal that you are being asked to do the pre op before you need to put yourself through it for real
  4. I was so glad to read this. I am 3 weeks out and have only lost 3 pounds. I am never really hungry, but eat because I know I have to. I have trouble fitting in all the food and shakes I need with waiting for the H2O intake before and after. I am ALWAYS thirsty and would prefer to just bring water all day if I had a choice. I am walking 3-4 x/day. I am not dehydrated but, continued shakes and soups have lost appeal. Maybe now that I can start on pureed foods I will be more motivated. I hope that I can start to loose more weight soon. Getting a bit discouraged.

Post op weight loss slowed down

Hi there! I am feeling a little disappointed because I am 3 weeks after surgery and have only lost 3 pounds. I feel like I am doing everything right, walking 3-4 x/day and eating less than1000 calories. Disappointed. Has anyone else had slow weight loss in the first month?
  6. Hi there! I hope some of you could enlighten me. I am potentially having surgery next year, and my bariatric nurse recommended I do the Liver Shrinkage DIet for 2 weeks to add favour to my referral to the surgeons. I am 9 days in and I have only lost 0.6kg (just over 1 pound). Prior to this, I was eating "normally"-carbs, and treats when appropriate as part of a normal lifestyle and I was losing around 2-3pounds a week (just under 1kg). I feel really deflated and feel like I won't hit my weight loss for the surgery referral, and that this diet is just not working. I've read other forums, and people have said they're losing 21 pounds in 2 weeks! I really don't understand why I'm losing LESS than I do on a normal diet. Typical intake: -Breakfast: 2 pieces of fruit or meal replacement shake -Lunch: Soup with a side of poached egg or a piece of fruit. -Dinner: Salad (Lettuce, cucumber, onion and spring onions. Small amount of added vinegar and light salad cream) with some protein of choice eg chicken, ham, beef etc. -Drinks: Water, diet Pepsi (one a day) and 1-2 cups of tea with sweetener and milk. All of these are done to the portion recommendations, and free foods and allowances. Please note I am using Orlistat every day and have been for the past half a year. Hope someone can relieve some imposter syndrome! TIA x

    November 2021 surgeries

During my two-week pre-op diet I constantly craved pizza! I mean, I do love pizza, but it was kind of weird how I fixated on it. Since surgery, though, I haven’t been bothered by cravings (so far). I should be starting mushy foods in about 10 days, and I’m hoping a bunch of cravings don’t come back once I start eating actual food again. If needed, maybe I could pay my best friends to order a pizza while I’m around so I could cut off the tip of a slice.
  8. I started a day early because Tuesday is a super busy day at work. I’m so glad I did because I had a migraine and was very sick on Monday. The rest of the week has just been a dull headache. I thought it was dehydration but I drink all day so I think it’s just lack of food. I’m so glad it’s only a few more days. How far out are you?

I have 2 distinct parts to my job. With the standard cleaning portion with no heavy mop buckets I can go back to work 2 weeks after surgery. But I also deliver cleaning by supplies and because I need to lift 30-40 pounds the recovery time is around 4 maybe 6 weeks Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm crossing my fingers for a January date for my hernia repair and sleeve to bypass revision. Once insurance approves it will only be a few weeks. I'll hear from insurance by Christmas, it will be a very merry Christmas for me! I had my sleeve 7 years ago right before Thanksgiving. Sadly I developed some nasty GERD that has caused severe damage to my esophagus, as well as developed a large hiatal hernia. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Bariatric Therapy

I've been video-conferencing weekly with a highly recommended counselor who specializes in eating disorders @$115/hour. However, while she is both a dietitian and a counselor she usually works with bulimics, anorexics, or bingers. I don't have those problems. The first few sessions were frustrating because she kept up her usual spiel directed to those forms of disordered eating. I gave her a list of reference books before our first session, but it was obvious she had not read any of them. I had to educate her on food addiction, bariatric surgery, and my experience with my own wonky metabolism. I sought a counselor because I've gone off the rails a few times while pre-op when confronted with some really delectable food in front of me that I could not resist--namely coffee cake, strudel, pizza, Irish soda bread. As soon as I ate them my sugar/flour addiction was triggered and it took weeks to get over withdrawal again and to get back on track with my pre-op food plan. I don't want to do that after surgery so I was looking for tips and tricks for avoidance of temptation. Well, I'm not getting that type of advice. However, I am getting nutritional/dietetic information that I have not gotten from my clinic's nutritionists. I'll keep talking to her for the next two weeks because my RNY-RNY revision is just 17 days away. I'll wait and see post-surgery. The honeymoon period won't be difficult to me. The problem will arise once I'm eating "real food" again. Good luck finding a compatible counselor at a reasonable session cost.
  12. The pre-op diet is super hard. And your sounds like the hardest I've heard of. Mine was 2 weeks of 600 calories a day - I ended up using low carb meal replacement shakes x 3 a day because at least I was getting some vitamins and all my protein that way. You're on zero calories zero everything - sounds awful. BUT - you've done it, you're doing it, and you only have a few days left. You've got this. 💪

    Foods

My program allows a protein shake to have no more than 6 g of sugar and I am to drink them 4 times per day pre op for 2 weeks. Post op I am to have diluted fruit juice/gatorade (50/50 split with water) for the first week and then the shakes again for one week (4 per day). So from my calculations it would seem that they do not want me to have more than 24 g pre op and post op (minus the first week post op). Once I get to the soft food stage (weeks 3 and 4 post op) it seems the 24 ish grams per day is still in effect as they only want me to have 2 soft food meals and 2 shakes per day. Soft food is about a 1/4 cup of either minced protein or pureed carbohydrates like mashed banana. I looked and 1/4 mashed banana is 7 g of sugar. I used banana as it seems to be higher in sugar than berries or apples. I do not yet have direction for 4 weeks plus from surgery. Hopefully this was helpful.
  14. Hey all, I'm back because I've developed severe GERD, esophagitis and a large hiatal hernia. I had an endoscopy this past Tuesday and they found my hiatal hernia was classified as large, several superficial ulcers, severe reflux/GERD. The esophagram I had a few weeks ago showed esophageal spasms and the results of the endoscopy indicate the spasms are due to the acid reflux. I frequently throw up my food due to the coughing triggered by the spasms. Fun times I tell ya! I saw my surgeon Wednesday and I was already thinking about hiatal hernia repair and asking about if she could do the RNY conversion at the same time. Well, she brought that up before I could. She gave me a few options and the repair and conversion is what I felt most comfortable with. She's having her prior authorization person working on the insurance part. I should hear something before Christmas. We're looking at a possible date of early to mid-January.
  15. Messaged you 😊 Food grief is real. I had it for the first 3 days. I was angry. Normally I would run to blow off steam but there’s no way I can this week, I’d never be able to fuel or recover. The commercials don’t really bother me and cooking for my family doesn’t bother me too much. They did eat a pizza last night and man did I want some! I resisted but I did think about licking a breadstick 😂
  16. I ordered the Syntrax unflavored (for oatmeal, soups, etc.) and also lemonade flavor (for everyday fluids). It had good reviews, and I’m hopeful that the lemonade flavor tastes similar to Crystal Light. At the very least, it looks like the least expensive high quality product. I’ll post again on flavor in a few weeks. 😀
  17. I did drink half a protein shake this morning but it made me nauseous, don’t really know what that means. I’m hoping my stomach will be okay once I do start putting things other than clear liquid in. I can’t stomach broth or jello anymore. I don’t actually get to have a protein shake until week 2 post op. 😐
  18. That scenario worries me as does the fact that bari vitamins have also been up and down $12 per bottle in the last few weeks. I can see those going to $100 or more.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I was moved to soft foods this week, and I just put in my grocery order with things like lump crab meat and lean deli meats and cheese to make roll ups- I can’t wait! I had a Turkey meatball and low sugar sauce that I made with a spoon of low fat ricotta and I felt like I was getting closer to normal! does anyone else’s clinic count weight lost from the first day of the liquid diet? I’m not sure if that’s weird or not

    Exercises

your butt shape will change after all the weight loss. Mine was pretty saggy - but I had a lower body lift which tightened it up. Usually lower body exercises like squats and lunges will help with glutes - but again, your shape will change pretty fast, and there's not a lot you can do to help the sagginess with the amount of weight we typically lose. immediately after surgery, all I was cleared for was walking. After four weeks, I was allowed to do everything except for weights. At eight weeks out, I was cleared for weights. The first few months I did mostly water fitness classes - and walking. I also did the stationary bikes at my gym. Now I do dance cardio (like Zumba) and biking, but I was too heavy to do those when I first started on my journey.

    Reactive Hypoglycemia

I am trying to control my with diet. My low yesterday was 48. Today I am running at 180 and not sure what do do about that. I ate super healthy all week and yesterday had a latte that dropped me in 2 hours after drinking it.

I am a texture person myself so I understand. I am taking off the whole 4 weeks. I feel like if you are able to, give your self that time to adjust and prepare. You have the rest of your life to work. This is not only a big adjustment physically for most of us it is also going to be a mental adjustment. I have already completed my FMLA paperwork and short term disability for my 4 weeks off. I am going to try and make the best of it my job will be there. If they would give me more time off I would take it 😂

Day 10 of my new life

I loathe taking my vitamins. I’m a month out. I’ve found if I eat a couple spoon fulls of sugar free pudding right after i swallow, it helps weigh it down. After I have the pills in my mouth and the water, i lean my head back dramatically and tap on my throat to center the pills…. I’m sure I look REAL crazy. I also stand there a while convincing myself not to to throw up and I sorta pat my belly to get burps out, hahahaha. This is everyday, every time. I couldn’t stomach the bariatric advantage chew or calcium chews. So now I’m taking a centrum womens and a target brand calcium that I can swallow. I have an iron I’m to take every other day. A sublingual b-12 once a week. And a high dose thiamin every day, because I was deficient.
