  1. It doesn't sound like you are wearing a post PS compression garment; you should be. I wore my for 6 weeks 24/7 after my surgery. It helps to adhere the skin back into place and definitely helps with swelling. I am very surprised that your PS does not recommend this.

    Noblesville

Hi you two! I'm in Columbus. I was banded 3 years ago and am so glad to see new life on the Indiana forum! I lost 35 pounds and want to get serious about doing this right and losing the rest. Barb, I remember when I could finally eat mashed potatoes- it was heavenly. Hang in there - not much longer! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Noblesville

Hi so very glad to meet somebody from Noblesville. I'm on my 7th Day of my band. I know I'm just a baby but I want to do it right. While I am still a little tender I'm feeling good. I want friends that have done it that can share experiences the good and the bad. Who did your band? I had my band done at Community North Dr McEwan. I am so ready for something more than broth and shakes. I am engaged, been with the same guy for about 6 years will probably do a fall wedding. I have a 15 yea old son, and 3 fur babies. 4. So I had my first fill (1.4cc for a total of 2.4cc) last week and honestly I feel NO difference. I was expecting to feel more restriction and I'm disappointed. How am I supposed to go another month before my next fill?!?! Ugh, didn't think it would be this hard. If I had will power I wouldn't be in this situation!

    Sleeved Today

Congrats to both of you for being on this side of surgery. I had the same hernia repair and sleeve done about 3 months ago. Just a few tips in your next couple days: Use the stomach pillow they give you in the hospital, to get up and press against your stomach. Its a life saver. Also, don't be surprised if you are hurting more than those who just had the sleeve and no hernia repair. Not everyone is like this, but I can tell you that the hernia repair was a lot more painful to recover from than the sleeve surgery. Oh and try to walk around the hospital as much as you can. It'll help get the gas from surgery out AND it will keep your spirits up too. I had fun walking around the halls at 2am when no one else was up except for the nurses. Good luck and keep us posted.
  6. ... Today ive vomited for the first time, after one week of the operation.. Eating tuna which I was not suppose.. But the question is: prior to the vomiting I did not feel anything like I just vomited that's it, than the pain started.. I had no signs before vomiting.. Should I ?

  10. and I don't know what to do. My husband just left for Afghanistan and I had some problems with depression prior to him leaving that I was in a place where the food was not fit for my diet and since being home I have been slacking and I am convinced that my lapband surgery was a failure or more like I failed it and I don't know where to begin now. I will have my 3rd fill next week and I still haven't noticed a differnce in how much I eat. I get full but I am hungry again soon after and when I tell them this they don't seem really bothered by it and just tell me to weight out my food still which I do, I just want to eat more. I feel like it is to late to start again because my stomach is probably a lot larger than it was after the surgery and I feel horrible because I really screwed this up. Does anyone have some advice on how to start again or what I should do. Please no rude comments I feel bad as it is, I just need someone who has been in the same situation or just wants to help someone succeed. Thanks and I hope to hear from some of you soon. Take care.
  11. In terms of recovery, everyone is different. I had RNY bypass. For me, the surgery was easy. The first night in the hospital was the roughest but that was brought on by the gas they pump in your belly during laparoscopic surgery. I would not call it pain, I would call it discomfort. They gave me liquid vicodin in the hospital for two nights and then sent me home with some. I had surgery on monday, went home on wed night. Took my last dose of pain medication on thursday and then they switched me to liquid tylenol. That stuff is awful and i chose not to take it. I just did not have alot of pain. The first week I was on a clear liquid diet and was simply focused on getting fluids in. That to me is the hardest part early on. You dont feel like drinking but if you dont, you get nauseous, weak and dizzy. If you do a good job then that feeling goes away. By week 2 i felt pretty good. The hardest part about having weight loss surgery in my opinion is getting used to the new lifestyle and wanting to eat. If i was busy, and i was i would just forget to eat. Sometimes hubby would ask, have you had lunch yet? It would be 4pm. I simply wasn't hungry but you learn to eat on time to keep yourself healthy. There are folks on this site alone that range from their early 20's all the way up to 70's+. Not sure what you looking for with meals? My nut had me on a high Protein, good carb, well balanced diet from day 7. Lean Proteins, veggies and fruits. During weight loss i was to stay away from rice, Pasta, sweets, caloric drinks other than Protein Drinks. I also minimized potatoes. I would have them a couple times a week and then only after i got my protein and other veggies in. In maintenance, I began adding whole grains in and I do eat some of those other things once in a while but i am careful about how often as I dont want to gain back my loss. As for confidence, hell yes! I carry myself different, dress different and feel fantastic. I had this surgery to get healthy as i had a BMI over 44 and was struggling with alot of health issues. It never dawned on me that I would even care about how I look until the weight started coming off and my confidence started coming back. Now, I am focused on how i look and what i wear all the time. Its weird how that works. I am 53 by the way....I feel like i lost my 30s and 40s because i was so morbidly obese that i just did not care about how i looked or the clothes i wore. Everything i bought i did it because I had to. I was working in a professional setting. Anything I bought, i thought looked like crap on me. Now, I try on clothes relentlessly just because I can and i know they will look good on me. My shopping definately changed, i love to go clothes and shoes shopping now. Best of luck, Hope we are answering your questions. Feel free to reach out if you have more.
  12. I had my surgery on 10/31 and the first 2 weeks were the hardest with hunger pains and feeling weak. I am totally back to normal now and I am so glad that I had the surgery. As many people say...I wish I had done it sooner. I have lost 22 pounds and already feel better about myself. I still have an issue with portion but I am hoping that gets better as I start to get my fills. I am 44 and started out at 228 and now weigh 206. Can't wait to break that 200 barrier!
  13. I had a very fast recovery with very few issues. I had surgery on Wed, started working from home (I'm an IT analyst) the following Monday, was back in the office the Monday after that. I had some nausea, but didn't ever throw up. I was very fatigued for probably a month but I also have auto-immune arthritis that I had to go off meds for the surgery, so it's hard to tell what was auto-immune and what was surgical recovery. If I'd had any issues or a physical job, I'd have had to take more time off. Ages? I'm 47. I've seen everything from late teens to 60 or 70 on this board. I'm a little over 3 months out, and I eat 4-6 times a day, about 1/4 cup each time. I do not restrict carbs because ketosis makes me very ill, but I focus on Protein first and when I do eat carbs I try to make them complex carbs with little sugar or refined grains. I am gaining more confidence with the weight loss, but I'm still in the early stages. I'm also able to get active for the first time in years, so that's helping as much or more than the weight loss. While there are some people who have had major issues and regret the surgery, most of the people here will tell you that they just wish they'd done it sooner. I'm in that camp, though I realize if I'd done it much sooner I'd have had a bypass because the sleeve surgery is relatively new, and with my auto-immune a bypass wouldn't have been a good option. So I'm just glad I finally decided to take the step for my health.

    Pain after fill

Yesterday I got my 6(ish?) fill, I've never gotten to a good restriction, mostly I'm tight in the mornings and can eat only a little but by evening it seems I have no restriction. Anyway I went for my fill yesterday and the Doc filled me to till I was completely closed (he put 4 more CC's in) then had me drink Water and of course it did not go down then he started taking Fluid out until the water drained out of the pouch and I could drink, so he ended up adding 2.5 cc's (I have a 14cc band). Then I drank the whole bottle of water before I left the office,I was able to get the water down, but it did take some time. Anyway on the way home I started to feel some pain, and I tried eating a little Soup last night and had a lot of pain! This morning I could feel something was different, but it didn't really hurt. So before I went to work I had a few sips of water to take my Vitamins and that hurt a little and when I got to work I got a pudding and after 3 bites I was done! The weird thing is this is not a stuck pain (I've been stuck, and it either goes away or I BP it out). Beside this is more like the pain I had after surgery, like a sharp pain. Anyone ever have anything like this happen? I'm wondering if I got bruised when he filled it up and I drank without it being able to go thru. I've called my Doc and left a message I hope he calls back!!
  15. Hello, I have been on a 3 month stall. I had the gastric sleeve late July. I was wondering if anyone used herbalife wls? I'm looking for jump starting my weight loss again. I still weigh 240 post surgery and am looking to loose at least another 80.
  16. How do others feel when u eat on mushy food
  17. I'm happy to report a 2 pound loss as of last Saturday and then an additional pound as of today, so my stall has finally broken!
  18. Well I did call my docs office yesterday afternoon. They seem to think I'm constipated. I took milk of magnesia with the expected results. I do feel some relief. But I'm going to have to call back this morning because I have a nice pale red ring around my port area about 3 inches in diameter. The incision itself is fine, just the red ring around it. And there is a red streak going from port to pouch, also where my pouch is, it's very hard a protruding. Almost like my port. I'm afraid this does not bode well. I'm trying not to freak out but of course I am.

    Boe, also about 6 weeks

  21. most normal WLS patients lose 15-25 lbs the first month, so yes, 10 lbs in the first three weeks is fine. Of course, there are outliers on either side of that range, but just from my own observation from hanging around these another boards for the last 5-7 years, that seems to be a pretty normal range. I think people sometimes have a skewed perception because of shows like "My 600 lb Life", but you have to keep in mind that those folks start out WAY heavier than most of us do. as long as your weight is gradually trending down, you're good. I lost 16 lbs during the first month (and I started out more than 100 lbs more than you, and I lost all of my excess weight - so you're fine!
  22. 10lbs is pretty common as Catwoman7 said. I lost about 13lbs in the first three weeks (but I wouldn’t have been hitting 400 calories a day - not hungry & struggled to eat much that first month or so). I slowed after that first month. Some weeks you may lose a little more, others less. Then there’ll be weeks you don’t lose at all. It’s all part of the process. Good luck on your journey.

    A big day for me

Only 4 more days to go I get banded on June 2nd I did all the pre-op stuff yesterday with no hic-ups yet. I'm a self payer so they sat me down and made me write the checks. They all came out to about $17K. I'm into my second week of opti-fast and I am doing OK now. Last week sucked:angry:. I can honestly say that I have not cheated on the opti-fast. I feel good about that and the hunger pains have gone away. I have a nasty taste in my mouth so I'm chewing alot of gum. I guess gum is not a good idea after the band. I have dropped about 18 lbs since Sunday the 18th. I'm getting anxious about Monday. Ok moving on I sure do appreciate this site

    A big day for me

Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that I am on that bus too! Once you get past the first three days you'll be fine. I have been on my pre-op diet for a week and a half now and am to the point where I am ok with it now. Losing 10 lbs has helped me keep on track too! Just take it one day at a time and try not to watch the food network all night like I was doing, lol Its just torture!!!
