A Little Help Please.
LosingItForMe2011 replied to kmiller's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You didn't mention how long this stall has been. My nutritionist said it's not a stall until you've hit 3 weeks. Otherwise keep doing what you're doing if you're following your docs plan and the scale will move. -
A Little Help Please.

I have noticed that I stall on the scale, but inches are coming off. I have been in a stall for the past week, but I was able to comfortably fit into some new jeans that were tight a week ago. Maybe have your trainer measure and try not to get wrapped up in the scale. -

Able to drink like before surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to TripletDad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think the amount is the OP's concern, but the ability to take normal size slugs and feel no resistance. Be careful chugging too fast and too much because you won't have enough time to know if too much is going to cause you to suddenly upchuck. This may change too as you heal and swelling goes down - remember the staple line takes at least 6 weeks to heal and sometimes 3 months. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should throw caution to the wind. The pyloric valve at the junction between the stomach and intestine does not hold liquids - it passes through, solids will give you resistance. Good luck. -
Able to drink like before surgery
TripletDad posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm somewhat concerned at the fact I'm able to drink water at a very normal, pre-op pace. I see so many having issue getting the proper amount of fluids in, whereas I can blow through 96+ oz of water in a day, plus protein shakes, broth, and Popsicles. I was sleeved on October 30th, so I'm a little over a week of recovery. I truly thought I'd have more of a resistance to fluid intake; which worries me about actual food intake and how much I'll be able to consume. -
did your clinic give you a food plan? They can vary quite a lot between surgeons. I was on purees when I left the hospital and moved into soft foods after two or three weeks, I think (it's been awhile), but some people are in liquids the first couple of weeks and then move to purees. I'd call the clinic if possible and ask them. Or wait until your follow-up appt and see what they say.

That is such a great poem; saying. We recently lost our 6 year old golden and had to put her down in September. The hardest thong I've ever had to do. I cried off and on for a couple weeks. I am doing better now, but every time I see a picture of her I just remember all the love and companionship she gave to our family. When I am ready, my mom who is very gifted in the arts and crafts departent is going to help me make an memory box for my son. I think with her passing on and my having surgery he has been scared that something is going to happen to me. She was a good dog and will be missed every time I think of her, or see a picture of her. Well sorry to bore you with my sob story, but I feel better. Thanks, Schel

Dear Food, You Annoy Me
Cynthia E.C. commented on goal_will_be_met's blog entry in goal_will_be_met's Blog
I totally understand- more than you know I understand and more than I wish I did I UNDERSTAND!!! I am to food, what a drug addict is to food and what an alcohol is to an alcoholic. I too have been going to see a counselor. I have used food as a drug of choice, a means of celebration, a way to grieve and a way to express myself, abuse myself and love myself. I have been overweight all my life. At 53 I know to well the hell that comes from obesity from infancy through midlife. I am so thankful for the lap band but it is not the end all, be all and do all. I have suffered from a twisted band because I threw up so much and had to have it redone. I still throw up often, usually from eating too fast, too often and too much. I have managed to lose 60 pounds. I had lost 80 but I have gained 20 back. I am now struggling with blood sugar problems. I have severe weak spells. This fat girl works out hard and often. I spin, do weight lifting, yoga, body pump, use various cardio machines and walk. I think I actually work out too much. I use to work out 4-5 days a week for 90 minutes. Now I am down to 3-4 days a week for 90 minutes. I would love to know if anyone works out a lot and has a problem. I am wondering if I should cut my workouts down, add fluid to my band and try to get the added weight off. I am lost, depressed, and overwhelmed. PLEASE HELP!!!!! -
I took 4 weeks off because I have a traveling job and couldn't lift my suitcase. I would imagine you will be advised not to lift a 2 year old. Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

I too felt horrendous for several weeks it does get better eat what's allowed drink fluids take your vitamins rest when u can I work as a housekeeper so I was so weak tired etc I found that I had to force myself to do things even if just for a few mins to start working up to longer it seemed I started to feel better its sounds awful but the more I laid around the worse I felt and when u must run a 13,000 square foot estate home for a living there's no resting lol so I felt I had to do my best to get back to it as soon as I could I also found out my potassium was very low and I was told to take a supplement its a prescription not over the counter my surgery was February 24 th I didn't feel normal again until a couple weeks ago I'm still exhausted after but I can get thru the day best of luck

I was told to not lift more than 10 lbs for at least 4 weeks. A busy/moving/wiggly toddler, I'd imagine feels many pounds more than they actually weigh. Consider starting to train him to climb in and out of the crib with maybe a step stool. I did that with my twins being that it was 2 of them and combined they were HEAVY (that was pre-op). One word of advice...don't forget and leave the step stool in there...oh the stories I could tell being sleep deprived and forgetting that stool.

I found out yesterday from the surgeons office that I may have to have a "filter" inserted the day before I have lapband surgery due to having had blood clots in my legs when I was in my early 20's. I explained to them that I've had 3 surgeries since I had the clots and have never had any problems..... and I even had a clot test done (lab) per their requirement and it came back within normal range. Has anyone out there heard of this or had this done? I just don't know what to expect if I have to have it done. Thanks!

Day 4 Post Op - trying to stay off Hydrocodone...
muelle replied to Band. James Band.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have seen on here for a lot of people that days 3 and 4 post-op are the worst for them, and they were for me as well. I took the Vicodin until day 4 and pretty much slept through the pain. Days 5 and 6 I only took it at bedtime, then I quit it altogether. The Tylenol suggestion is a great idea. Hang in there, it will get better. Good luck to you on your journey! -
I think I found a cool new product. Bariatric Advantage has just added a new Multi to their line. Includes 1000 mg B12. Iron Powerful nutrition in 3 capsules! Our newest encapsulated multi formula is the highest potency member of our multi family of products. Designed to meet the latest guidelines* just add Calcium and you are ready to go for the day. Contains a full 3000 IU Vitamin D3, 400 mg Magnesium, 45 mg Iron, and a unique phytonutrient blend to support good health. powder added to something ie applesauce. They seem not a bad price at $49/270 One only needs to add their calcium. If you are Canadian and at a loss, let me know I can hook you up with a supplier in Vancouver. She told me about these. I hope someone finds this helpful. I know I am sure relieved to have found something a little more cost effective. No buying separate B12 or Iron. Just add calcium. W.

I've been slipping over the past week as well- eating foods I know I shouldn't because they lead to more and more bad choices for me- and what do you know, that's exactly what I've done. I'm considering going back to a day or two of just protein shakes, to remind myself how far I've come in the past two months and how far I still need to go. I hope someone has good advice for you!

deborahg glad to hear your fever is gone - and you are feeing fine i think a few of us were concerned about you, you were just out of the gate, and infection or whatever other problem might occur. knowing we are layman - dr. does know best - especially in this case it turns out doc was right. i still think it is strange that being 3 days PO - your dr. wasn't concerned more about the fever. best health kathy

About 2 weeks ago I started having lots of pain and vomiting while eating solid foods. At first I thought I was taking too big of bites or eating too fast. I have finally come to realize something is not right. Doc is sending me for Upper GI. Has anyone had a blockage before and can you tell me more about it. This is the most painful experience. Thanks, BB

The several weeks after surgery and before your first fill is about healing up from surgery, not about weight loss. You will naturally lose some weight from the liquid diet and all, but eventually that slows down. And once you go from liquids to soft foods, your body will respond by slowing down the weight loss even more. It may even stop. In my case, after I starting eating "real food" again, I gained six pounds. But I focused on keeping my Protein up, carbs down, drinking all that Water, and trying to exercise as best I can. (I'm on a "light duty" thing due to two hernia repairs done during my band surgery, so I'm restricted on how much activity I can do.) I'm walking as much as I can. Now, the scale has turned around, and I'm losing again. It's all about your body adjusting to what you're feeding it. Try not to be impatient about losing. That WILL come in time, but your focus now should be on healing up, and learning how to eat with a band. Hang in there, folks. You're in this for the long haul. Good luck! Dave

Hi Shaunie, you are doing great!! I remember when I was on my 2 week Preop Protein drinks, When I went in for my last weigh in before my surgery I didn't think I had done so well. But I had lost 17#'s. When I thought about it I was ok. That was a little more than a # a day!! I am 3 years out and the way you feel about being afraid to let your guard down is exactly how I felt. I kept thinking about every diet I had been on some even many times more than up to 4 times. Weight watchers 3 times and Nutrisystem 3 times!! TOPS at least 4 times. All I could think of was how many times I had lost and then regained my weight. At one point I lost 135#'s. But it was because I was so sick from my FIBROMYALGIA and ARTHRITIS. I regained back up to 285#'s which was my highest weight except when I was Prego. I did manage to lose 36#'s and keep it off for a couple of years!! But I am here to say if you follow all of your Dr.'s guidelines especially in the 1st year to a year and a 1/2. You really don't have much to worry about. You have been given a tool that will help you to become successful!!! Just keep your eyes on the prize and remember why you decided to take your journey. Every day that goes by it becomes easier and better than the day before!! Good luck!! Just don't let down your guard and become compliant while your journey proceeds!! You CAN do this!!

Well, I was on a plateau for about 3-4 wks. I had a fill done on 20 June...I had only lost .4 oz in that time. Anyway, I got .6 ccs to make a total of 2 ccs in my band....I finally feel restriction. I've lost about 3 lbs since then so FINALLY some action. My clothes are all fitting better and better if not they are too big and it's time to SHOP. Having fun with this band. Dee

Hi Kim. I was sleeved on 5/09 as well. I think you need to talk to your doctor. I didn't have much pain at all, only discomfort the first week or so. I didn't take any pain meds after I left the hospital. Now, I only get a little pain when I move really fast in an odd direction, for instance turning over in bed or today, crossing my legs in the other direction and my jean capris rubbed the incision where my drain was. As for the stall, I too have not lost anything in the past week. I have actually have gained a pound or two. Good luck and call your doctor about your pain. It never hurts to ask. Trust me, I called about my drain site and didn't like the first answer so I called again and sent pictures. I got the same answer, but felt much better afterwards.
