Day 5 - Tired, hungry, pain. Normal?
catwoman7 replied to LouLouM's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
yes - you just had major surgery, esp since you had hernia repair done at the same time. I remember feeling tired for the first couple of months - although it was the worst the first two or three weeks. After that, it gradually got better. -
HEAVY Weightlifting is a GAME CHANGER Ladies!!! Pics included!
Sunnyway replied to Kat2013's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Inspiring! I do aquatic cardio workouts 5 hours a week now pre-surgery. As soon as I'm cleared post-surgery for weight lifting, I'm going to get a personal trainer at the YMCA and begin strength training. My bariatric clinic includes sessions with a personal trainer, but the affiliated gym is 75 miles away so the local YMCA is where I'll go. I think that shrinking my excess skin is probably hopeless, but I'm going to do as much as I can before considering plastic surgery. -
Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
latricepeak replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello, I'm new here. I was recently sleeved on Dec 2, Any suggestion to get past this first week. -
I have bad knees, one of which was replaced but still hurts two years later. As a result, I cannot walk long distances even if I use a cane or rollator. Instead, I do aquatic exercise and use fins and a kick-board to swim laps at the local YMCA pool. I started using the pool before I had total knee replacement in a "Hip & Knee Class" recommended by my orthopedic surgeon. I liked it so much that I continued in the class for a year after surgery. Then COVID struck and everything shut down. A year later, in April 2021, I was so discouraged by being at home all the time and not getting exercise, I called three people who had been in the "Hip & Knee" class and suggested that we return to the pool. The YMCA was not yet holding classes, but the pool was open again. We knew the routine down pat. We started going for an hour each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. In September, the YMCA started offering aquatic classes again. The four of us signed up for the "Senior Stretch & Tone" aquatic class AND the "Knee & Hip" class back to back! Yikes! The class meets only on Mondays and Wednesdays, but we go on Fridays, too, so we get five hours of exercise weekly Since the Senior Stretch and Tone class uses some of the same exercises that the original Hip & Knee class used, we started using the second hour of class to develop strength by swimming laps using kick-boards and flippers. The fins make us work harder, kicking from the hips instead of the knees, and we are getting a good aerobic workout, By increasing the number of laps by two each time, I finally swam 1/2 mile or 18 laps last Friday. I'm going to try to increase by two more laps each time I go. I want to be able to do a mile (36 laps) by summer. I'll have to take a break after my upcoming revision surgery, but I've been told that as soon as the incisions are healed I can go back to the pool. Maybe by spring I'll have lost enough fat that I will no longer float like a beachball, and will be able to actually SWIM rather than kicking.

I’m 6 weeks out…. I went back to a shake for breakfast plus 2 meals of usually about 200 calories each plus a couple of appx 100 calorie snacks. Average 700-800 calories per day.

That sounds yummy Spinoza. Good to hear you are feeling well. I’m going to make the ricotta bake, but I’m adding ground turkey to the marinara. I’m going to portion it out into some 1/2 cup ramekins for my meals. I’m starting week 4 on Tuesday. With clothes on I weigh what I did last Tuesday, so I’ve lost at least 2 pounds since then. I’ll be 1 mouth out on the 9th. -
I start my two week liquid diet Thursday; surgery date 12/23. I am dreading this!! I hope you are doing better.
-
I’m eating 3 meals a day. 70-80 grams of protein. 700-800 calories. The scale is going down. I’ll hit week 4 on Tuesday. I’m eating soft food at this time.

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)
xKirstenx replied to xKirstenx's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
That's a very good point, I never thought about a stall! It could well be that indeed. I will see my loss next week and if it isn't anything brilliant I will inform my bariatric team that I successfully did the 2 week period but didn't have a big loss. I suspect the actual pre-surgery one will be more liquids than solid meals, so that might have more of a success. I have downloaded a UK-based calorie counter to make my life a bit easier so I can track things better too. Fingers crossed! Honestly thank you so much, I find it hard to lose weight because of my PCOS so I should give myself more credit than I do. Congrats on your 36 pounds! I hope you hit that target weight! X -
November Surgery Buddies!!!

Just checking in again today my sweets. Still stuck at a 4lb loss 18 days post op and really needing my whoosh now! Am taking in about 600 calories a day and around 60g protein. Pain is getting better every day - the only time I notice it now is when I straighten up too quickly after bending over, or when I try to sleep on my side at night. Hunger was less noticeable yesterday - it has been hard, so nice to see it subsiding at last. All in all, everything going the right way, kind of apart from the weight, which has to come soon, right?? Just about to start a big Sunday roast here, which I will puree for myself. Also boiling ham for lunches (everyone else) during the week so I will use the stock to make some 'ham', lentil and veg soup for my own lunches! How has everyone's weekend been so far? -

Kirsten I suspect you just hit a stall at the wrong time! You've already lost 25lbs so if they need evidence that you can stick to a diet there it is! At 800 calories a day you will definitely start losing again, I really hope you see a good loss this week, sounds like you're doing amazingly. -
I've continued seeing my normal therapist throughout the process and she does not specialize in anything food/body related, and still found a lot of value in it. I'm trying to put my finger on what the takeaways were, but I think the things I'm processing the most that are helpful are a) body shame and b) dealing with people's reactions to my weight loss. If you can, I would probably recommend a therapist even if you can't find one that directly specializes in this area. It helps just to have someone to talk to! Something I did on my own that was really helpful: in the couple of weeks leading up to the liver reduction diet, and I had my moment where I was just eating "whatever I wanted" "for the last time," I wrote down what favorite comfort food I ate, and then briefly journaled about how I felt physically after eating it. That helped me process losing access these foods, because I realized that they would often make my stomach hurt/make me feel physically terrible right after eating all of that. It took away from the emotional power those foods had for me.

3weeks post op feeling like I am failing Help!!
♡MyCurves replied to sarahhayes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1/4c at meals at 6weeks post op...I believe my nutritionist would tell u to get that to 1/2c and then to 3/4c. I think you might be consuming too few calories. I'm in the same boat. 6 weeks post op and A LOT of stalls already. Be careful with fruits. Still have lots of sugars. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Well I'm 6 weeks out and I hit a stall at 2, 4 & now my 6th week. Now, that's frustrating. I would look at your macros, water intake and vitamins. Calories as well. Might have to eat more calories, less or more protein. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Almost 3 weeks out. Am I doing something wrong?
♡MyCurves replied to Prisci1608's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm your wls twin. I was avg. About 300-500 calories. My nutritionist and surgeon were not happy with how little my calories I was eating. Encouraged to eat a minimum of 600, up to 900 calories. They want me aiming for 90g of protein daily and more frequent high protein meals. I have had like 3 stalls on my journey. It has be mentally tough on me. However, I will say that when I'm eating 1k calories...I feel better. I broke my stall. So, I'm not sure why they're wanting u to literally starve yourself. That's crazy to me. What do non-cooks eat in the 4th month?
SleeverSk replied to Amy Braun's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am hearing you !!! My friend said go on pintest which i did I got so inspired lots of yummies but sadly i haven't been motivated enough to cook any yet. But I do this for work I call it roast beef sushi 😁. Get some sliced deli meat my go to is roast beef, cut carrot, cucumber, capsicum and celery into sticks. Get some cream cheese ( light of course 😉) spread on the beef and then add something like mustard or whatever you prefer. Then get one of each of the veggie sticks put at one end of the beef and roll it up 😃 roast beef sushi !! At about 14 weeks I could eat 2 and a bit for lunch. But yes its hard I havent had lunch yet today and racking my brain what to have for dinner tonight. Do you have anyone to cook for? I wish i did or someone to cook for me 🤣🤣 -
on the liquid diet, no. But I think I ate them occasionally starting a few weeks after surgery.

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)
xKirstenx replied to xKirstenx's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Thank you so much for making me feel normal. I really was wonder if something was wrong with me. I'm considering dropping soup, and upping my protein intake. I will ask my team for a specific amount of carb and protein I should be having. I feel so hungry all the time, does a larger protein intake help with this? I will be starting from tomorrow, and hopefully see more than 1kg loss in 2 weeks time! Thank you, it has been hard but any loss is a good loss. It's hard to remember that. I'm trying to find like minded people to chat with too. I have no plus size friends who understand the hard realities of losing weight and Bsurgery. X -
Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)
xKirstenx replied to xKirstenx's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Hi I am on a low/no carb diet so I'm literally eating the above meals which will he very low in carbs. As for protein, my meat is free so I can have as much as I want. I will typically have three mini chicken breasts cut up into the salad. If I have eggs with anything I have 2 (poached) but eggs are not a daily intake. If I have cheese it's no more than 50g a day and is part of my allowance. Thanks for replying x -

Yes I'm roughly having 800 cals a day! I lost 5 percent of my weight just prior to this diet so yeah I get what you mean. I'm really hoping next week I will see a result but if not I'm concerned. I guess it is slightly brutal but I will do anything to get that surgery! Thanks for replying x -
Its brutal and you need to grit your teeth and get through it. I cried like a baby in my second week. I would cheerfully strangle the SOB who put me on it. I must say I directed some bad vibes his way. I did it though and would never do it again. Good luck
