    January Sleevers ❄️

@@Zzzombrie Thank you for the info and encouragement. I continue to eat 5 small meals where one meal might be some yogurt and cottage cheese. I am in a stall at 200 pounds. I keep wondering if my body is on hold or I'm having a mental fear of being below 200. It's the weight I've reach before and then gone back up. In any event, I'm going going up and listening to what I need. My downfall is rice crackers---I eat a few at a meal to get some crunch. I may have to give them up. I like them to much. Not a lot of calories but I eat too many. Best to everyone! I appreciate the support from this group! And need it.

    Snacking

I keep beef sticks, babybel cheese, fresh fruit and Fage yogurt on hand for snacks.
  4. Hi all, I have been MIA for a bit.. So glad we have had new people join us! It's a nice little club. So I am now 8 days post surgery. I saw the Dr. When I was 6 days out. She said I could drive! Who hoo. My freedom is back. I felt like a new woman. So, she has allowed me to add yogurt, oatmeal, farina, cottage cheese to my choices of things to have on top of protein shakes. It was so exciting to use a utensil! I have felt better everyday. A little less gassy. Less burps as I drink. This morning I weighed myself and I am down 13 pounds... Holy crap! I have a little pain near my belly button incision, but that is about it. Today was my hubby's birthday, it was a challenge. I went to a specialty store and bought fresh made ravioli is for him and homemade Italian sausage. It smells great in the crock pot when I got home.. I cooked it all, served him and the boys and then walked away... It was tough! So, I feel like I am grazing on things. Shakes, yogurt etc. and I stop after a few bites bc I am afraid of getting too full. Does that sound weird? Anyway, safe travels to our friends heading home. Know that I was feeling like you 2 days out, questioned why I did this, but it is getting better.. Little by little!
  5. @TXTinana I know the feeling being away from all the hospital meds and reclining beds etc is hard. And being woke up to be given pain meds etc was a pain i realize now why they did it. I slept through last night as i was so tired but woke up feeling terrible having not kept up with my drug regime. Every sip of water has been painful and have to burb. Anyway I have started to learn a few tricks- warm sugar free flavoured drink is going down much better than cold plain water. for me warm smoothy runny soup is going in better than cold Greek yogurt etc. (better mention here my nut/surgeon plan is straight onto thinker liquids that could be strained like protien shake and smooth runny soup etc)the worst thing is all my meds seem to be quite big capsules which really hurt. I'm starting to feel a little shakey on m feet and weak armed so now i've got my new tricks trying to get in as much as possible before i get more dehydrated and too low for too long on calories. I believe in a week or so so long as we all work on our own tips and tricks with in our guidelines we will start feeling more human
  6. I'm almost 1 year post-opt and Monday I went in for a fill. This was my first fill in 7months. I was at around 4.1cc and my Surgeon filled me to around 4.6/4.7cc (I have a 10cc band). Everything was fine and I was doing liquids and yogurt until Wednesday. Wednesday I was having trouble keeping liquids down. Thursday same story. I PB on all liquids and have really bad heartburn/reflux. I called my surgeon and he can see me first thing Saturday morning. I was curious if anyone as experienced delayed irritation and discomfort after a fill.

I love ricotta bake. I eat dannon triple zero vanilla Greek yogurt with some thawed frozen berries over top each morning for breakfast. I eat light cheese strings for snacks, hummus with cheese crisps (baked shredded cheese) for a treat!

    OCTOBER 2014

I'm so happy I found this group again. In the beginning, this group was my absolute rock. I'm doing well. Off most of my meds, not being treated for Diabetes at all any more. Since I first went to my surgeon, I've lost 107 pounds. Now, I lose very slowly, but I am totally okay with that. I went to the doctor, well, his PA, and she told me I had to stop losing so fast. Imagine that. Things have been hard here as my neighbor's 8-year-old daughter was raped and murdered by another neighbor, a 15-year-old boy. I ate too much at first, but my food of choice was blueberries! People were talking about yogurt and fruit. That's absolutely my favorite food. I have it for Breakfast every single day. I love FAGE 2%. I gave up the non-fat because i realized I needed to be eating more fat. Every single day I wake up amazed that I can get out bed. I look at my size 10 pants and am sure that I cannot possibly fit into those tiny things. I've learned how to shop for clothes, though I have to admit it was very traumatic at first. My arthritis remains bad, but I go to physical therapy three times a week, and my legs are getting better. Everyday I am totally grateful that I had my surgery and that I have totally hung in there for almost ten months now. I won't lose this group again. I hope everyone is doing well. With love, WG.
  9. Ok, so. My surgeon's instructions are to eat small bites, and wait a while between bites. I am doing that. But how much did you guys eat in those first weeks after surgery. I have seen some do 1/4 cup, and I was afraid to go beyond like 1 TBSP or 2 TBSP, so I am not really sure if I am eating enough? If that makes sense. I have tried yogurt, refried Beans, and egg salad. I eat very little of it and notice no difference physically. Now, the Protein shakes... How long does it take you to finish an 8 oz one? I have yet to finish one. Wondering if theres something else I can do to get one down. I am afraid to drink too much too fast. I guess I have anxiety over messing up and doing it wrong. My followup is Tuesday with the surgeon.
  10. Whenever someone says, "can I eat...", my first thought is always, "what does your surgeon/nutritionist say?" Mine says no rice, Pasta, bread, crackers for six months. I'm not sure why you think rice would be helpful. Perhaps some greek yogurt or a Protein drink.
  11. I can only speak from my current experience and share what I have learned from some of the veterans. My hunger returned right around 5 months post op. It is not the same as that gnawing hunger I used to get and it literally only takes a few bites full of food and I am full. If I eat Protein and fats, I stay full longer. If I eat foods like yogurt, pudding, salads without those fats or Proteins I get hungry again within a couple of hours. It is very easy for me to get full and stay full. It is not as easy to deal with head hunger. I have to do other things to get my mind off of it. Head hunger is much worse than real hunger for me. I have learned that when I do feel hungry the first thing I try is drinking 8 oz. of Water. Sometimes dehydration can make it feel as if you are hungry. If that doesn't take care of it, I will then grab a snack of cheese, nuts, Jerkey, apple with Peanut Butter. This is if it is between meals. You asked why people gain their weight back. From everything I have been told, the number 1 reason is grazing. Instead of eating 3 meals and a snack. They simply eat small bites all day long. You can eat around your surgery by doing this and pretty soon you are back to eating too many calories. You cannot stretch your pouch but after a period of time your brain allows you to tolerate larger portions of food. If you have the wrong foods on your plate you will gain weight. I have done a lot of reading about this. This is why bypass is not a miracle cure at all. I feel like I fight every single day for every pound I have lost. You have to educate yourself so that you understand the things that can help you or hurt you. I know when I have had too many bad carbs in a day that I am going to get on the scale and be disappointed. Some days I choose to indulge in something and I am ok with it but most days I make better choices for myself. The reality is you are in control of how well you do and ultimately how you maintain it. The surgery is a phenomenal tool that will make it much easier for you to control but you have to do your part. If you do, you will be successful. I am so glad I did it, I am close to my goal and I have vowed to never be as sick as I was ever again. I now have the tools in my toolbox to ensure that does not happen.

5 days to go. Should I cheat?

Most will say don't and you shouldn't but if u do my dietician said reach for Protein. So how about a piece or two of dry tandoori chicken with a little yogurt dip? I forgot to add cheating once can lead to more cheating. Which given you are very close now could be a very bad thing.

    Full or Eating too fast?

I am 15 days post op and have been eating full liquids and soft foods for a few days already. I have only been eating, egg over medium, oatmeal and smooshed vegs.Tried tuna, but it was a bit much. Had sushimi, yellowtail, that is fine. If something does not agree, I go back to my oatmeal or make my own Protein shakes with tofu and yogurt and fruit.

    Eating before its time ..

What kinda eating are you talking about.. like a steak or runny oatmeal.. I rushed my soft foods a bit, but I noticed that really oatmeal feels the best. I also bought some silken tofu and blend it with my favorite fruit. That is pretty filling and has protein. I too am sick of protein shakes so I just make my own with fruit, milk, yogurt and silken tofu. I am afraid to eat real food... my husband just made the most delicious fried chicken, but not me.. too afraid of throwing up.

    Self Sabotage

I work in food service we can not eat or drink in our department. Very hard to get liquid in. Have to walk out of dept to break room to consume liquid. My food choices also aren't great there is a protein loaded "Fiesta dip" great on a spoon. It takes me 2 days to eat one thing of yogurt. 1 grilled chicken breast is 3 meals. Haven't figured it out yet but see Dr see 1st and nut on the 11th. Hope I get some help.

    Self Sabotage

I drink bottled Water. I find it easier to make sure I get it in and one 16.9 oz bottle isn't as daunting as a big gulp container. Four bottles and you have your daily goal met. As far as food goes, I eat fish and steamfresh vegetables mostly. I buy the cod fillets that are individually wrapped. After it is unthawed, I season it and saute it in olive oil or coconut oil. One bag of vegetables will last me the whole week. I have grilled steak once a week, grilled, baked or sauteed chicken also. I eat a serving of fresh fruit every day. On days that I exercise I have a GENEPRO Protein shake in the morning and I have an afternoon or evening snack of Fage yogurt with fruit. On days that I exercise (5-6 days a week), I have approximately 1,100 calories, 80 to 96 ounces of water and 90 to 100 grams of protein. I don't eat Protein Bars at all. I don't eat sugar free or fat free anything. I hope this helps as an example.

    July sleevers?

I was also sleeved on 7/27. I'm on purées and I haven't had anything that's actually pureed. My favorite is tuna mixed with Miracle Whip and I add tiny tiny chopped pickles (no peel or seeds) and cheese. Last night and today I had baked salmon, not even close to a puree but my NUT said it was fine. It felt great to be chewing real delicious food! I also love refried Beans mixed with cheese and plain Greek yogurt.

    10 day liquid diet!

I was allowed to have raw vegetables and some dairy - cottage cheese, Greek yogurt - until the last 2 days. I lost 17 pounds in those 2 weeks. I really wasn't that hungry after the first couple days... I think even just on liquid it'll get easier after a couple days.

    March Sleevers

I still have indulgences. But I work to stay on track the rest of the time. Once a week I have a snocone. Monday I had 3 small bites of cake. Those little things aren't going to make me gain the weight back. I don't drink Protein Shakes. I did have a protein coffee from Starbucks this morning though. My general day is yopa strawberry Greek yogurt with granola (I generally cannot finish the whole thing, some days I can though) for Breakfast. lunch I have chicken of some sorts. I use Pinterest for low carb recipes and most of the time I don't miss the bread! dinner is some other form of meat (low carb style). If I'm hungry between meals I snack on beef jerkey. If I'm craving sweetness then I snack on grapes. If my husband and I go out to eat we agree on one meal to share cause he knows it's hard for me to stare at a plate full of food knowing I can't eat it all. The only thing that changed with this surgery is your stomach size. Your brain is still the same. And it's going to be your biggest enemy. I'd be lying to you if I said I don't "want" the things I used to have. I used to eat 6 sausage rolls every morning for breakfast. Now I have Greek yogurt. If yogurt isn't your thing then eggs and bacon. You still gotta finds things you enjoy! Tweek the plan to for yourself. Don't think that there is only one plan that works for us all. I struggle with getting Water in. I plain just forget. Plus water can be so boring. But I've been trying different flavoring a to see if I can find one I like to encourage myself to drink more. Get on the net and research. It's going to be the best way for you to make this work. Feel free to follow me on Instagram. I'm going to start posting more of what I'm eating on a daily basis. (LadyCookVSG) All I follow on there are other people who have had Bariatric surgery. It's inspiring to see other people work towards goals. If gives you ideas for food, inspiration, body acceptance, etc. Ok, I'm done lol
  23. Hi guys I feel like I'm eating too much. I'm 10 days post op. I can drink 1-2 Protein shakes, 2-3 oz of cottage cheese, pureed meat, or yogurt 3x a day, a bowl of Soup. And I still want to eat I read people who can just take a bite of Jello and get full. Or drink half a glass of protein and get full. But I can't do that. How much could you guys eat??
  24. Every surgeon is different. I would follow the plan and if you start to have trouble back off for a few days. My surgeon was very conservative. Clear liquids for one week Full liquids for one week Puréed foods for 2 weeks Soft foods for one month At 8 weeks I was released to introduce new foods one at a time. I followed the plan to a tee. The worst week for me was the first week of clear liquids. I was very weak until they allowed me Protein shakes, yogurt, creamed Soups, very thin cream of wheat. Funny thing was 2 tablespoons make me feel so full and I never felt hungry. I had to set an alarm to get my meals and protein in. Oh what I wouldn't give to have that feeling again. As time goes on, hunger comes back and you do have to work very hard to lose every pound. Take advantage of this time for as long as you can..... Good luck!
  25. So I'm 5 weeks post op and I'm finding that I am struggling to eat protein sources. Fish, shellfish, meat, cheese, peanut butter, eggs, yogurt and the dreaded protein shakes! None of them are appetizing anymore and I'm having to force myself to eat them. I made some crust less quiche which helped for awhile but one can only eat so much of the same thing. Does anyone else have this issue and any advice or recipes that might help! I'm not one for bland foods so I need flavor. Thanks!
