  1. Thanks for the response and link. It was very helpful! I try not to compare myself to others but it is hard not to sometimes not too. I am happy with my progress so far. It just sometimes when you have a slow weight loss week you can't help but wonder, Is this it? Is this all I am going to be able to lose this time? But i am still early in the game. I am 10 week post op so I am going to be positive that there is more weight loss to come and stay on track with my plan.

    2 weeks out complications... ulcers.

I had an ulcer about 2 weeks or so after surgery and had to go back in the hospital for four nights due to internal bleeding. No pain, though. Then 7 months later I had another one. Just stayed overnight one night for that one. It’s been almost 10 months now with no other ulcers thankfully! Hang in there!
  3. Yes with the chicken soup! Get a rotisserie chicken, remove usable meat to use later. Crock pot the bones and scraps along with garlic, celery, and onion (leave the papery skin on the onion) and cook overnight 10 hours or so. Strain and make soup or freeze broth in small portions to use as needed. Look up Medical Medium on fb. He's a little bit health nut but has a lot of helpful sciencey info. Stop into a vitamin store (not GNC, find the hippiest place near you) and let them give you suggestions. Order a medicinal tea book from Amazon, they are pretty cheap. There are a lot of teas that are truly medicinal but you have to have knowledge about them (like some will say don't use for more than a week or not for people with kidney issues.) Also, seek out any sources of mold in your home. We found it once behind some baseboards in my sick son's room. And a second time in a memory foam mattress topper when same son was chronically sick again. I had an immaculate home and it still happened. Have someone do a sniff test if your nose is inflamed and see if they can smell anything.

    61 lbs in 6 weeks!

Six months since surgery and I am down 155 lbs. Pretty amazing journey. I have been very fortunate as well to have zero loose skin. I am currently eating 1800-2000 calories a day and 190+ protein. I walk 15-20k steps a day which usually translates to 7-10 miles a day. I workout with weights five days a week. I feel better than I have since I was probably 25. My only suggestions are to get active as soon as you can after surgery and build on it. I started at 3-4K steps a day before building up to the level I am now and I started with relatively light weights (for my size and history of weight lifting as a college football athlete) and high reps before building back up to heavier weights. My point is, you gotta start somewhere. And once you start keep going even when you don’t feel like it because it gets easier and the health benefits are amazing. The other suggestion is when you hit a stall, up your calories and protein. I hit stalls along the way and instead of decreasing food intake I increased it. I would add 200 calories and 10 grams of protein each time installed and instantly I’d start losing again. It seems counter intuitive, I know. Especially given how all of us, myself included, previously had to cut caloric intake to lose. But before the problem was we were eating too much and needed to cut back. Now the problem is we are eating too little and our body goes into starvation mode and starts fighting the weight loss. I found if I fed it more, it would keep burning away he fat. Good luck to all and anyone considering this surgery do it!

    October 2018 Sleevers

Big milestone today. I ran out of excuses to not exercise since my 10/15 surgery and got back on the treadmill and made physical therapy appointments. (I have a bad back.) I also started counting calories, protein, carbs, and water, which is not required by my Surgeon during this adjustment period.
  8. Yay! I have a marginal ulcer! "Fortunately" the surgeon said it looks like it's already healing over... although it sure doesn't feel that way. I am on puree only for 2-4 more weeks (I had made it to soft foods). I am 19 days out. I knew I wasn't crazy! It hurts soooo bad swallowing, but the Carafate is amazing. On it for 30 days and Pepcid 40mg for 3 months. Surgeon says I probably got an ulcer because I am a former smoker. Smoking is bad, kids. To anyone pre-op or considering RNY... quit now. Just in case. I quit a year ago, but probably had about 3 packs over the last year while socializing, and 2 cigs within a month of surgery. So I guess I never TOTALLY quit. But I am not an "active smoker". And sure as hell haven't and will not touch a cigarette again since post-op. Not 100% if that's what caused it, but not worth it. It hurts like a mofo. And almost killed me from deterring me from drinking. Anyways, speed bump but not unmanageable. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Thanks for sharing your numbers, deltagirl - you are doing great!! It’s good to see how other revisions to SIPS are doing. I’m now 3 weeks out from a sleeve to sips revision and about 9 or 10 lbs down. I’m very happy with this start, although I’m sure it will slow down. I need to add exercise - as you have wisely incorporated ... I’ve just been to lazy. ;)
  10. It's been 6 years for me. I never reached my goal (20 lbs away) but I am a size 10-12 and happy so who gives a F. I never regretted it. Lap band is not a weight loss tool but a maintenance too. So, if you have been able to lose weight in the past but keeping it off is the problem then this is the surgery for you. No matter how much you want to binge after, how many slices of pizza you want to put away, you just CAN'T after 1.
  11. Nice!! Happy for you! How long did it take to get the ins approval? I'm scheduled for 12/10!

Scheduled for Lap Band - Success vs Regret?

As others have said, the band is no longer the "miracle tool" it was once thought to be. In recent years it has been understood that 1/10 of bandsters will experience SEVERE complications and need it removed eventually (usually as an emergency surgery, which is scary). I am not talking about mild things like a slight slip, or some tightness and reflux... I am referring to erosion into the stomach, permanent damage to the esophagus (in the form of gastroparesis), phrenic nerve damage, vagus nerve damage... It all comes down to this one question: Do you want to be constantly worrying about this 10+ years down the line? Yes, this surgery is "reversible" and it's the least risky option at the OUTSET... but unlike with other WLS's the complication risk INCREASES the longer you are banded. Also, I don't know what your insurance situation is, but remember that for the health of your band, you will need to constantly be seeing your doctor/getting fills/barium swallow tests, etc. - this can add up very quickly - and that's with NO complications.

Can I Delete An Unused BP Profile?

Before I realized this forum used to be LapBandTalk which I was a member of 10+yrs ago, I created another profile here. I need to delete it so I can free up my current email address and add it to this profile. Can someone help me with that? I don't see the option to do it myself.

    FISHING FOR COMPLIMENTS

Great idea! I'm just so full as I write this because over the last 10 months, I'm down 108.7 lbs. I had a revision from the lap-band to SIPS and I couldn't be more happy. I did have some complications in the beginning which required a month long stay in the hospital, but even with that, I don't have any regrets! My life is on TEN!!! Even though I have not shared publicly my WLS experience with friends, people seem to be genuinely happy for the new me. I've always socialized, but I'm even more eager to hang out with my friends, go on couples dates, business social settings, etc. because I can easily find something to wear and feel even more confident in myself. I'm feeling great physically. No more back and knee pain. Off of all meds (blood pressure, cholesterol, symbicort breathing treatment) and off of CPAP machine for sleep apnea. Also, since having the lap-band removed as part of the revision, I no longer have acid reflux. While the vanity is great, the health benefits have me over the moon ecstatic! I'm sooooooooooo happy!

@kata0683 I am going through the same thing. Was sleeved on 10/30 and lost 14 pounds. I haven’t list an ounce since the 13th and am a bit worried. I increased my food intake since I am eating soft foods now but haven’t lost anything since I started this new stage...I am having a protein shake in the morning, 1/2 cup of 1% cottage cheese for am snack, 2 egg white with fat free cheese for lunch, 1/4 cup of beans pm snack and anothe protein shake for dinner. Drinking 60-64oz of water and nothing. Maybe I should amp up the exercise 🤷‍♀️ any tips are appreciated.

    Lap band removed!

Quick question: I've been advised to have mine removed by a GI doctor following 10 years of complications, but the doctor also said that unless the band slips, it won't be covered by insurance. Have any of you had to cover this expense out-of-pocket? I'm bothered that I have medical complications from a foreign object and cannot get it removed as medically necessary. Thanks in advance for any help with this.
  19. High weight - roughly 300. First appointment weight 271. Current weight 152. 2.5 years out. My BMI is technically 27 (overweight) but I look ridiculous any thinner, I'm post menopausal and my body fat is under 30%. My group has declared me a rock star. I am nationally ranked as a fencer in my age group. I plan my meals. I have just had to start to increase carbs from 60g daily to 100g daily because I tend to burn about 1000 cal a day with exercise and I do weight lifting to support my fencing - I was cannibalizing muscle due to not enough carbs. But its whole grain. Still few sugars. Almost no white flour. Pasta once every few months. Protein first. All The Time. A protein related snack in the morning and afternoon. 3-5 ounces of protein at each meal. Healthy green veg. About a gallon of water/unsweetened beverages a day. I treat myself occasionally. I eat about 1200 -1500 calories a day - 110g protein 100g carb. I still log everything in My Fitness Pal. If I don't exercise, I'm very careful about what I eat. I haven't had plastics and that would likely get rid of about 10 pounds of fat I'm carrying in the middle and excess boobage. But I'm not ready to do that yet.
  20. I lost 100% of my excess weight and have kept it off for 18 months. Things that helped me achieve this: 1. Months PRIOR to gastric bypass, I gave up the following: a. No carbonated or caffeinated beverages or juice b. No alcohol c. No artificial sweeteners d. No fast food e. Minimal processed food, desserts, bread, rice, or pasta f. Stopped drinking during and after meals g. No food funerals 2. I followed my bariatric surgeon’s instructions to the letter and did not advance my diet ahead of schedule. 3. I worked on my food and other issues with a therapist before and after surgery. 4. I started walking more before surgery and continued to increase my daily steps after surgery. 5. I cleaned out my closet of clothes that were too big as I lost weight. 6. I weigh my food because too large portion sizes (with mindless eating) was a main reason I got so heavy. 7. I no longer snack/graze all day. 8. I’m much kinder to myself post-surgery. If I overeat I don’t beat myself up and then binge; instead, I move on and eat less at my next meal. 9. I drink a lot more water now. 10. I weigh myself almost everyday. When I was overweight I didn’t weigh myself, which allowed me to be in denial about my true weight. Now it’s just data and I can course correct quickly if it starts to go up.
  21. Hello, I had a revision from the lap-band to SIPS on February 14th. I've lost about 108 lbs over the last 10 months. I am very pleased with this revision. I exercise 5-6 days a week, I've dropped my drive-thru queen habit and cook way more, and just overall eat better quality food. I don't diet per se, but again, eat more vegetables and protein and take it somewhat easy on the carbs. There really isn't anything that I can't eat. However, I don't push it, but allow myself an indulgence from time to time so I don't lose my mind. Of everything, the exercise is the most consistent routine I do in this entire process. I really try not to miss working out as I believe that it has been key in aiding the weight loss and will be key in keeping it off, because I'm not a perfect eater and will never be one, although better. Weight loss by month below. It's starting to taper down. I'm okay with that as I hit my initial goal of 190. My second goal of 170lbs is just 18lbs away. Anything I lose after that will be gravy as I carry weight pretty well. People already think that I'm much less than I actually am. Month 1 (Feb) = 13.6 Month 2 = 21.2 Month 3 = 10.8 Month 4 = 10.4 Month 5 = 11.9 Month 6 = 12.5 Month 7 = 6.9 Month 8 = 8 Month 9 = 8.4 Month 10 (Nov) = 5 - so far
  22. I started at BMI 39 went down to 19 and seem to have settled at 22 - 9stone 4lbs in English money! I'd like to drop a few again, but am at a healthy weight so working on tone with exercise. Like orchids and dragons I am post menopausal. I'd lost more than half my bodyweight now slightly less than that but not far off. And folk say I'd lost too much at my lowest which I found funny as it wasn't a concept I was familiar with. My tips for success? Follow rules and beware sugar because it's the devil. Not just because of dumping which is horrible but post dumping it's easy to allow it to sneak back in and I believe it to be a drug at least as dangerous as alcohol... Best of luck to you 😀

We have the same date! I was originally going to have it done on 12/17, but the Dr. filled up that date. They called me to change it. It was either the following month or in 10 days (from the call). So I'm going in early!
  24. My insurance already has it in my chart as in progress and they say to expect 5-10 days. I'm hoping that Thanksgiving doesn't delay me!
  25. What are you guys eating at 4 months post op? I’ve had trouble with eating things throughout this whole process because I pretty much don’t like much of anything :( chewing meat until it’s a mush has become so repulsive to me I end up spitting it out. I have no clue what to eat and I’m barely even getting 10 grams of protein a day. I’ve been craving a ham and cheese sandwich, has anyone had any experience with sandwiches? Please help! Thanks! :)
