  1. I'm sorry to say I've become a lurker. .... Life has become so incredibly busy that it's getting harder and harder to relax!! In February 2011, I headed down to Mexico and had my sleeve done. Since then I've lost 100 lbs. I lost the weight in about 8 months and have had no trouble keeping it off!! A huge reason I can keep it off is due to being VERY active! I've become a long distance runner- tomorrow I will do my 4th half marathon. I have another half marathon in September, and my first full marathon in October. In January, I'm traveling to Disneyworld to do the Goofy Challenge. I get up Saturday and do the Donald Half, then go on Sunday to do the Mickey Full. If I complete both in the allowed time, I get a Goofy medal!!! In march my fiancé and I are finally getting married in Hawaii!!! - and yes, there is a half marathon tied in 6 days after : ) My biggest changes?? To do what I CAN do! When I was big, I'd give up on everything- including myself. Now? I've had a running injury for the last 2 races. My second half, I ended up walking the last few miles. My third? I got injured 3 mile in and WALKED the next 10 miles!!! I won't give up!!! Eating wise? I still do Protein first and I still do not eat and drink at the same time. I still carry a drink with me everywhere and get 3 liters liquids in per day. I still stay away from popand slurpees like it's the plague as it's just too much of a slippery slope for me. Since having the sleeve my attitude has changed so much. I'm enjoying life and the people around me. I've gone onto a major fasttrack at work ( I've had 4 promotions since surgery, 6 raises, and 3 bonuses) Life is good My biggest recommendation for new sleevers? CHUCK YOUR SCALE!!! I only lost weight one week a month. It majorly f$cked with my brain! One more thing- get active! The trick is to find something you love. Running for me gives me time to myself ( which I very rarely have), and it allows me to think things through and clear the cobwebs. I also like hiking and do it multiple times per week right now. Now I'm off to pack my gear! Have a great evening!!!

    Daily Exercise Amount?

1 hour walking the dog at the very least 4 times a week (often before going to work). I do this more for my head than my body to be honest.
  3. AJ Tylo

    Daily Exercise Amount?

Cross fit 5 times a week and walk the dog

    able to eat anything

What the others said.... And... don't get your hopes up too much about that first fill. It often takes more than 1 fill before you get restriction. Some doctors are very conservative with fills. My doctor gave me 3cc on my first. 3cc on my second and then 1cc on my third. That is one of the most aggressive fill schedules I've heard based on the other posts I've read. My second fill I felt restriction for about 1.5 weeks then it loosened up. Now with my third fill I'm crossing my fingers that I keep my restriction. It is not uncommon that after the swelling goes down to feel hunger. Hang in there and talk to your doctor about fills. Every doctor seems to have a different take on what the right fill schedule is.
  5. Just walked in the door from a week in Mexico and couldn't wait to weight myself. OMG OMG OMG... I'm soooooo excited I've lost 20 lbs. since starting Pre-Diet & I'm now 5 day Post-Op. Thank you Dr. Garcia, Hanna, Rosie, Samual Sr. & Samual Jr. This was the best gift I've ever given myself. Great experience!!!
  6. Sounds like you hit your spot-yea! I can not wait to hit mine. I have had 2 fills since being banded Dec. 18th 2009, and I still have no restriction. I have 5cc in a 10cc band, so maybe my third fill will be the one. It is so hard to be patient. I haven't had a weightloss in 3 weeks.
  7. the liquid 3 oz protein shots is a good way to fill the gaps on days you're low on the protein count. They come in plastic tubes and can be found in any store diet section like walmart

    What To Do?

Your surgeon sounds a little strict but maybe hes had a lot of success with his patients taking longer? Its amazing how much they differ. My sister had the same surgery through the Army in Washington state and didnt even have to do a pre-op diet! I was supposed to do a 2 week one but didnt do very well on it Its probably better just to go by his rules, I'm sure he has good reason. That being said, I felt so much better about my decision to have the surgery after I was on mushies Good luck!
  9. Does anyone know if I quit smoking cigarettes two weeks before pre op will I pass a nicotine test to continue the process for my surgery Sent from my 5017B using the BariatricPal App

Tummy tuck scars - can u share your pic?

You may view my tummy tuck scars at 3-mos and 6-mos post op in my flickr photo album. And you may view my LBL scars at various stages in another of my flickr albums. Now that I am a year out they are much lighter but I don't have any updated photos. The back of my LBL scar is much thinner and lighter than the front of the LBL scar. My surgeon (Joseph Capella MD) told me that they will turn white eventually. We shall see; they have lightened a lot from what you will see in those photo albums. I have scars on every part of my body from plastic surgery. Before I went through with it, I was so VERY scared about having them. I think I asked my surgeon two or three times why he had to cut me so much, once I was in tears. I truly was afraid that I would pass out the first time I saw my body looking like Frankenstein, especially with the pie crust incision he does, -- I had everything done at once, so there was no getting used to the scars; it was like jumping into cold Water. But as it turns out, when I awoke from surgery I was not horrified by them. They don't really bother me. There was once early on when I was in a bathing suit at the gym and I felt self conscious alongside the college girls with my scars. But they are much lighter now and I have body confidence that I did not have before. So they're not so bad. I'll take them over the fat and skin, that is for sure. You can always opt for laser treatments to lighten them if they really bother you. PS I did not do any scar therapy -- no tapes, no oils, no creams, etc. I don't know if they would have made a difference by my surgeon did not believe they would and that they were a waste of money.

    ?'s about Mushy stage.....

I was told by my doctor to pick my proteins carefully. Yes, cottage cheese has a lot of protein grams but it's mushy food and digests quickly, whereas meats are more dense and take longer to digest. The longer it takes to break the food down, the longer it contributes to a full feeling. When you were doing liquids, you still had post-op swelling and the combination of the two gave you that full feeling. So try eating 3 oz of lean meat or fish and a steamed veggie and see what happens.
  12. My first fill was with Saline and I went back a week after because I did not feel ANY different at all. They checed and sure enough the fill was gone. So, they used OmniPaq - a thicker solution. I have had 3 fills since then all with OmniPaq and not had another problem. I was told that the band sometimes aborbes the saline - not sure why! So, you may want to ask for the OmniPaq, it works much better. Kim Banded 1/26/07 Dr. Spivak - Houston 3.5cc in a 4cc band! Still not much restriction but steady weight loss!
  13. I came home 7lbs heavier from surgery. It is from the IV fluids and the inflammation... Water retention. I let nature take its course on the BM, you really don't have much to make enough waste to have a normal one. It finally came (out, lol) on day 4, followed by a day of diarrhea. However, I ended up 13 lbs down at 2 weeks.... so once you start getting in plenty of fluids your body will start releasing any water retention, and the scales will start moving down. Are you getting in all your fluids?
  14. My stall lasted 13 days and it sucked. My husband hides the scale from me and brings it out once per week - that has saved my sanity. I was driving myself crazy weighing every day and sometimes more than once a day. More importantly, you need to figure out a way to get in more Protein and Water - those are the two most important things for you now. More important than the scale. 60 grams of protein is not a lot when you consider a shake should have 20 grams. Have you tried unflavored and putting in pudding? What's approved on your diet? If you're having trouble with sweet shakes, try the unjury chicken Soup and add some chicken (if you're allowed). For water - I couldn't stomach plain water after surgery. I started drinking Propel Zero, Vitamin Water Zero and Powerade Zero (all zero calorie drinks and approved by my doc). That saved me from getting dehydrated. You can also try some decaf green tea or other warm drink - sometimes you can tolerate warm better than cold. Things will get better for you soon! Hang in there.
  15. You could experience many stalls during the journey - long and short. You just need to work on the things you can control: Your Water intake Your Protein intake Exercise Your protein is important so you don't lose lean muscle mass. Your lean muscle mass is what burns calories - so many folks that have WLS lose this. My last doc's appt showed I had lost some lean muscle mass and she doesn't want me to lose more. I have lost 5% of my body fat at 6 weeks. In order to not lose the LMM, you need to eat protein and once cleared, exercise and start lifting light weights (I'm not suggesting turning into a weight lifter - light weights with 20-25 reps per set). Walking and cardio are good for burning off the fat. You should do both once cleared. I don't know if it's going to be a long-term thing or not, but right now I log everything that I put in my mouth, including water. I have to or I'll snag a bite of something here and there and that grazing is what got me to 256 pounds. I set exercise goals for the month and track to that goal. There's a thread on this site January Fitness Challenge - you put in your goal, then update as you want to on that thread. And finally, I again suggest hiding the scale. Bring it out once a week or so - some will suggest weighing every month, some only weigh at the doc appointments. I read where someone even put their scale in the car trunk and brought it out once per week. My husband hides our scale and brings it out on Thursday, my weigh-in day.
  16. I am sooo incredibly happy that I found this thread! I've been stalled for about 10 days and I know it's Water and Protein, but I thought I was doing something majorly wrong. I've got my protein up, and today I finally drank all the water that I needed. How long does it take to get yourself out of the slump and back to dropping weight, once you get your protein and water met? Thanks.
  17. does everybody recommend taking laxatives to get more "regular" before checking into the hospital? or do they give an enema after getting there? since being on a pre-op diet the last week, i need help in this department, ahem... if you get my drift. and it seems that post-op it takes awhile as well.

    Two Weeks Post-op

WOW, 4 1/2 weeks with little to no hunger. WOW That is awesome for you. I won't hold my breath for that to happen to me, but boy it's nice to hear someone is having those kinds of results. I'll just be happy with a couple of weeks. On the sixth day of a two week liquid diet leading to surgery and this is not fun. Will be relieved to have the hunger gone.
  22. But did you take your measurements? I was not losing any pounds, but lost another 3 inches overall!
  23. You and I were sleeved on the exact same day. You have lost 85 pounds in 3 months!!! That is FREAK'N AMAZING!!! I have lost 47 pounds in the same period. I am currently in a stall and actually gained 2 pounds in this week's weigh in. I am not worried. It's a stall. If you've read enough of these posts, you know that stalls happen. Don't fret. There are many reasons for stalls--water weight, backed up plumbing, monthly cycle, etc. You're doing great. Keep doing what you're suppose to be doing and the weight WILL continue to come off as soon as your body is ready.

    Surgery date!!!

Two days after my consult I get a call from the surgeons office saying that I am approved and to set the date! March 25th!! WOO HOO I'm on my way to a new life. Not even worried about the new lifestyle. I have a nutrition class I have to attend the week before surgery...I can't believe how fast this has progressed.
