    Sorry for all the questions

Actually in some circles snackers/grazers aren't considered lap band candidates because the band controls high volume eating; if you graze constantly you can "eat around" it. I think MAYBE you are over-analyzing a little; just fill the paperwork out and send it in. You can drive yourself nuts trying to second guess every little thing. If your insurance will pay for it and you are sufficiently overweight (or if YOU Will pay for it without insurance) odds are you'll be considered a "candidate". Don't fret! And I've never heard of anyone getting fat who didn't overeat. Regardless of chemistry, genetics and so on, at some point you have to take in MORE calories than you use in order to gain, and you have to USE MORE than you take in in order to lose. If you really don't overeat, and that isn't the cause of your obesity, then no the band won't work, but you wouldn't want it anyway.
  2. Hello Everyone. I have my revision from lapband to sleeve scheduled for the 25th of this month. I am currently 220lbs, 5.5" and plan on being around 215 lbs the day of surgery. My question is, will the sleeve help me reach my goal of 150 lbs. I have seen a lot of posts of lower 200's not loosing very much with the sleeve (when it is a revision). Looking for personal experiences and insight! Thanks
  3. I am four months post-op and steadily but slowly losing weight. I have read in several places that we can expect to lose 50% - 60% of our excess weight. The challenge with weight loss is clothes - when do you know you have reached a size where you will stay? I have read in the same literature that after we reach our lowest weight loss point, we regain 10% - 20% back. It is my understanding that initially we lose too much weight but our bodies find a way to find an optimal weight. Apparently we will lose weight for up to one year after surgery. And as time passes, it will slow down considerably, Is this your understanding as well? If you are more than one year post-op, do you find yourself continuing to lose weight? When could you stop buying new clothes? Should I keep some of my new post-op clothes in anticipation of a 10% - 20% regain? The reason I am asking is that every time I hit a plateau, I tho I, "ok, now I can buy new clothes." But a few weeks later I lose 5 more pounds. I have no choice but to buy new clothes because the old pants literally start to fall off when I walk. But that gets expensive. My shirts seem to work fine, though the collars are too big, but suits, jackets and pants have to be altered and/or replaced. Thanks in advance for any insight that anyone can offer. I wish everyone success in his or her weight-loss journey.
  4. Has anyone out there had surgery in the past, regained their weight and had an additional surgery?

    liquid diet

Do what your body tells u 2 do. I 'cheated' a bit with semi solids & had no problems. Been 17 mos & lost 80#. Taking it very slow & not getting discouraged with SLOW weight loss. I firmly believe losing weight slowly is the way to success. Best of luck & hang in there.
  6. I DONT WANT TO SCARE YOU BUT I HAD MY SURGERY ON SEPTEMBER 9 2010 LOST 30 LBS I WAS A STRICT DIETER FOR MONTHS AND DIDN'T LOSE A LBS. I HAVENT GAINED ANY WEIGHT BUT I AM STILL STUCK TRYING TO GET TO THE SWEET SPOT. I AM AT 7 CC AND I AM FEELING LIKE THIS IS THE SPOT. AS YOU CAN SEE I AM ALMOST HITTING A YEAR. IT TAKES TIME FOR SOME PEOPLE AND IT IS HARD NOT TO GET DISCOURAGED I HAVE CHEATED SEVERAL TIMES CAUSE OF DEPRESSION OF NOT LOSING. JUST HANG IN THERE

    "Just 62 pounds?"

Your surgeon needs to work on his people skills. But most do. First of all, there's no such thing as what you're supposed to lose by a certain time. Everyone is different. At my 6 week appt they told me that some people lose the majority of their weight in the first 6 months & some take 2 years. But remember, the closer you get to goal weight, the slower the weight loss is. Second: look at what you're doing & see if it needs tweaking. Are you getting your Protein & Water in? Staying under your cal goal? Exercising enough? Are you keeping carbs under 50g? Some programs (including mine) say it's ok to eat whole grain bread & other complex carbs but I stay away from those things completely as they have no nutritional value for us when we are limited to so few calories. (I only get 600 cals per day. There's no way I'm wasting 100 of those on a piece of bread). If you're doing what you're supposed to then you're not a failure. Just keep doing it. 8. I really need some motivation.... All I have are excuses of why I don't or can't go to the gym. I have a brand new workout facility at my work, and a $100+ membership to a super nice gym around my house.... WHY in the world can't I go? I've been stuck at the same weight for the past 7 to 8 weeks.. What the heck is wrong with me?

    Port question

The port will more than likely show the more you lose weight. You can have a low profile port put in when you get closer to goal. Sorry but you may need to figure out a way to tell him. I don't know how long you can hide this from him. Plus with quick weight loss a lot of times you end up having to have your gall bladder removed. Just some thing to think about. Good luck. ~~~Stephanie
  10. Surgery week is here! My surgery is Wednesday, November 18th. I've got most of my stuff packed. I am packing for the hospital and the weekend after as I am staying with a friend at her apartment that has an elevator! My kitchen is cleaned out except for post-surgery items. I have the rest of today and the morning tomorrow to work and then two weeks+ off for recovery. One more trip to the pharmacy to refill prescriptions and get a few things and I'm ready. This journey started when I was put on my first diet at the age of 6 because I wasn't thin. (I wasn't fat either, but I wasn't thin.) I've never been thin, but its only been the last 10-15 years that I've really put on the weight. Like everyone else, I have tried everything. In July I realized that I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. My knees were starting to hurt climbing stairs, my feet were starting to become a problem, my diabetes (A1c) and blood pressure were creeping up, my wardrobe was soon going to need to go up another size and that was getting harder to find, and I realized that I had reached the point that I was ready for surgery. I had exhausted my last option and was ready and willing to make this step. So here I am almost the eve of surgery excited, contemplative, and scared. Ready to just get on with it and not have to be anxious anymore. To everyone else have surgery this week! Best wishes! pam

    Psych evaluation questions

The psych eval is easy. They just want to be sure you understand what the surgery entails, have a support system, etc. Mine asked questions about my weight history, what I have tried before to lose, etc. Sent from my Nexus 6P using the BariatricPal App
  12. Often WE tend to justify our actions because of certain events. Just remember the reason you had the surgery and where those foods got US in the first place. food is comforting to US, but it is also our silent killer. Although you may only be eating small portions, it still isn't healthy for you. WE have to get to OUR goal weight. WE have to live a better life, we have to LIVE. Eating the wrong foods will kill US. This forum is an excellent source of encouragement and motivation and I commend you for putting your situation on here because it will help someone else. Oh and once you experience dumping for the first time...I PROMISE you won't eat or drink what you aren't supposed to. Dumping for me is the most horrific experience. Imagine an angry Smurf wearing shoes with spikes on the bottom tap dancing on your pouch, with his buddy the kibbler elf tightening a wrench around it, not to mention tinkerbell with a plunger down your throat forcing whatever you just ate or drank back up and nothing coming up. NOT PLEASANT. I do not want this to happen to you. Head back to those glorious liquids (the recommended ones) and enjoy your new journey...sans dumping. Keep us posted on your progress and welcome to the losers circle.

    Working out...

Brandy, Ive been banded for 4 1/2 months now, ive lost 73 pounds, as a former football player i was used to do a lot of excercise, after my surgery my doctor asked me to wait 2 months before excercise, i have been doing 1 hour of boxing and 1 hour of weight training every day without any problem, sometimes i have to take a protein shake when i feel tired but thats it, enjoy your lapband, it is the best decision you can make
  14. I have been working out for almost a year now, slowed down during summer, but now I am working back up to what I was...I am able to do 60 min on the elliptical plus I am doing weight machines. My husband asked if I should stop for now, and after I am banded, start back up again...kind of like re-reving my body. I know that you start out slowly, walking etc...but how soon can you resume vigirous activity? I know that it is weird, but I honestly enjoy it. I NEVER in a million years thought that I would say that! Thank you~ Brandy

    Day 15

Didn't lose any weight in 5 days is that normal??
  16. Hi All, I just watched on a video, that said, after the surgery and your intial weight loss, your metabolism changes..... Your hunger returns... HOLY CRAP BAT MAN !! So is this true? There is supposedly some sort of rebound effect? You loose a bunch, gain "some" back then your new normal weight is set. This is really confusing.. I am still researching and am concerned about years from now...... Oh I can't imagine how happy I will be at a 100 lbs of weight loss, but if my body simply doesn't want to stay that size, and hormones and metabolism start sabotaging me... What am I doing....I just WHACKED OFF 85% OF MY STOMACH - FOREVER !!! I know a lot of you are better at all the research than I am, you went through with it anyway and are living it now. Please help me understand..

Nipping the slide in the bud

You have down this before and can again. Yeh I keep my weight in a happy 5 lbs window too!
  18. Went to see my surgeon today. They supplied me with a sheet that has my starting weight and current weight.( Which the starting weight is a little off. and the current weight is off. I go by my scale here at home.) Then it has my EWL as of today. I was shocked to see what they decided my goal weight should be. I was like really???? 122.4 pounds. I haven't seen that since junior high school. LOL..... They then said that I shouldn't go by that. Where I feel comfortable is where I should be. We will see what my end result will be. They said that I was on target with the EWL percentage I'm at 23 %. I also found out that my sleeve will end up with a capacity of 8 ounces but they told me that I will probaly never go that far. I get mad hic cups and burping and thats when I call it done eating. They said thats a good plan. I do feel restriction but only on dense protein. That to will change the further out I become. They also reassured my concern with how some foods smell so wonderful but once I take a bite its like I don't want this. Yep that is normal too. So glad to hear that. I proceeded to explain how I do not crave carbs but crave meat. I find that weird. Not to them. Told me that too is normal. All in all appointment went good. Don't go back until October. By then I am willing to bet I will be at goal or pretty damn close.
  19. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. My doctor suggested that lapband wil help me in many ways with my health. I hope my insurance covers it! I weight 230 lbs and has been struggling in losing it. My doctor informed me that I have a metabolic syndrome that causes all this health issue I have right now. Thank Hod that my PCP are willing to help me go through yhis phase.
  20. Well I have been doing Cupid.com and OkCupid.com for awhile now and not got ANY hits. I think it will be interesting to see how things change once I hit my Goal Weight. I may be able to get a paper for my sociology class lol.
  21. Thanks very much! It feels pretty good, as you also know. After all these years of being overweight, to be down to such a normal weight feels strange. I keep waiting to wake up fat again. I do wear a Bodymedia armband (same thing, made by the same folks) and I can definitely work with that to try and balance things out. I haven't asked the surgeon yet - I have an appointment the middle of next month, which will be around the time I'll be close to the new (maybe) goal. I'm just trying to get ideas in advance of what others are doing. To be frank, I never expected to be facing this end of things, and especially not this soon. It's completely amazing. But it also feels really, really good. Dave

    Stucking To It..

Your rate of weight loss will slow at times, and even reach "plateaus" occasionally, where you can remain compliant with your diet and not see the scale move for a week or more. As long as you remain compliant with your surgeon's instructions, and continue with your exercise, the weight will come off. As I've often mentioned, this journey has taught me a life skill which eluded me for years, patience. Try to remember that you did not gain your weight in a short span of time, so it is not realistic to expect that you will loose it rapidly. Best wishes...

    Spotting A Lot After Surgery?

I don't know the answer for sure and I'd definately suggest asking your doctor. However, I do suspect you're going thru a situation similar to mine. Body fat produces estrogen and when you lose body fat your estrogen level drops. This can correct itself over time but you may need some kind of temporary help. I had a hysterectomy about 8 years ago and was stable until I lost weight. Now I get hot flashes like a fiend. My doctor and I think it will stablize itself soon.
  24. That's terrible. Where do you live??? I'm in my early 40's now. In my early 30's I lost 150+ pounds through diet and exercise. I thought I was bullet proof and my issues with food were solved. I was cured. WRONG. Over the next 10 years I put back on 110 pounds. Now I know I'll never be 'cured' of my issues with food. It'll be something I'll need to manage, always. But I learn from my mistakes and move on. When I lose the weight this time, I won't make the same mistakes again. Learn from today and move on. You're in a better position now because you know there's still emotional eating issues there. Now that you're aware you can manage that next time you feel under stress. Cheers, Deano
