Mushies diet?? Calorie Intake??
Colls replied to Kelleeelliott's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw my nutritionist yesterday for meal advancement and she said that I was to eat 4 tbs of mushies three times a day. Not sure how many calories that equates to but I am sure it not too much considering the size! I am eating low fat and high protein things, plus the protein shakes three times a day. -
How long are leaks usually a concern?
Chicadee replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said the time when leaks show up most frequently is in the 3 to 4 week range. After that it would be rare however in my case I had what they think was a pinhole leak that fixed itself around week 11. -
Week post op here, feeling good. Belly incisions are not bad at all and can sleep on my side, yippee. I am been sticking to jello and liquids have this pain coming up and in my chest...man is that uncomfortable. I had the gas x strips, they didn't seem to do much but make my breath smell minty :rolleyes:I have read on here that alot of you have that and in 2 weeks it should go away. I have been keeping active and I believe it to be gas as sometimes I'll burp and man what a celebration that is when i can do that. Well, just wanted to come on to see if anyone had any thing that they found worked alot as I would love to just get my water down (the amout that i am suppose to have). Yesterday I did the most which was about 50 oz took me all day. Had the pain right along too sooo... Looking forward to moving along with spring here summer approaching, can't wait til I dont have to worry about looking like a lard in cooler clothes. Praise God!

I'm 2 and a half weeks post op. Just found out that I really have no restriction and went a little (not a lot) overboard today. I'm supposed to be on 600-800 calories a day. I did that and then kept going prob another 300 or 400. I feel fine just mad that I fell off the wagon. Worried that I damaged my band/stomach. Ugh! Feels like old times again. I've lost 22 lbs since surgery. Trying to be positive. Guess this is one of those parts the band doesn't take care of huh?? I'm worried about tomorrow. I've been known to not stop once I start. Slippery slope. Any advise? Words of encouragement?

First Week Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery
MuzikIsMe replied to frumpy69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a week and half post op and I had the same problem of not feeling "Full" when I was on all liquids too. I just followed my Dr's. plan of drinking a bottle of water (8oz) every 2hrs from 8am-8pm. (Extending the gap to 3hrs the last 3hrs) I'm now on full liquids/soft foods (mashed potatoes, pudding etc.) and I'm still having issues of not feeling full. I actually tried mashed potatoes for the first time tonight and stopped after about 5-6 spoonfuls. I still didn't get the full sensation, but stopped because I became nauseated. I'm assuming I was eating too fast as I have eaten a spoonful or two more as I'm typing this entry. Is anyone else having this issue? -
I just wanted to scream out that today I wore a size 9 blue jeans to church!!! SIZE 9!! not stretchy ones either! just a few months ago I was lucky to squeeze into a size 20. I'm only 17 lbs from my goal and I LOVE MY SLEEVE!! This summer is going to rock cause I will get to wear some cute, cute clothes. Also my cousin had VSG 3 weeks ago and one of my best friends told me at church today that I have inspired her to have surgery too. Who knew!?! Have a great day guys.

Has anyone used the vitamin patches???
abefroman329 replied to Dfox1984's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I tried the patch for about six weeks and was advised by my surgeon and nutritionist to stop using it. It was cheaper and much more convenient than the pills, so that was a shame. -
I made the most delish cauliflower pizza crust! It wasn't exactly the same as real pizza, but satisfied my craving! And I may be the minority, and I'll probably get bashed, but I have soda once in a while. I take a can of diet coke, let it go flat for a day or 2, then sip it when I have a craving. One can lasts about a week.

Questions for post ops...
PokeyJo replied to Only1likeme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery two weeks ago. Out of everything, the worst thing for me was I threw up once and had some dry heaves the first night. The next morning they gave me some wonderful medicine and it went away. I needed help getting up for a few hours in the hospital, but after that, I was able to do things on my own. They did keep me for two nights, instead of 1 because of the first night. I didn't drive for a week, but that was my choice. I have a very low car and didn't want to have to climb out of it. I never needed pain medication so I didn't have to worry about driving while on it. I went back to work part time 5 days after surgery and the following Monday went back full time. It was exhausting in the beginning of the week but get easier as the week went on. I tried a few protein drinks and found I like Unjury the best. I particularly like the Chocolate Splendor and I put PB2 in it, with my NUT's approval. It's wonderful! I found while on the liquid diet portion and taking the protein drinks, it's hard to get it all in. The water hasn't been a problem. Just sip, sip, sip away! I haven't had sex yet. Not for any medical or physical reasons, just haven't. My husband is being more than patient! Now that I've moved on from pureed food to soft food, I seem to be alternating constipation and diareaha. I haven't been able to get in as much yogurt as I'd like, so i'm not balanced out yet. I'm sure once I get back on it, I'll even out. Everyone's journey is different, but I was exactly like you! I wanted to be prepared and ready for when I got home. I found I over prepared, but I guess that's ok! Emotionally, I was so ready for it to happen already. Even now, a couple of weeks out, I find I'm more excited than ever. The weight is melting away and I feel euphoric! Best of luck to you!!!!! -
I asked for gas stuff while I was still in the hospital. All they had was the fart drops in liquid form, but it did help. Hang in there honey! I'm one week post op today and it's a night and day difference. It will get better!

Cajunlady12 replied to birdmadgirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery two weeks ago today and just got back from doctor and have lost 19 pounds. I feel great, and I need to keep drinking my water. Keep up the great work. -
I saw my PCP on Monday for a sinus infection. He's referred me to Dr. Kuwada. Dr. Kuwada's nurse just called, and the ball is getting ready to roll! She took down some basic information, and I should get an evaluation appointment within the next week. Now if I only knew how to insert the dancing bananas, this post would be complete

I have not had one instance of food getting stuck since I have had my sleeve, and hope you have the same. I didn't start experiencing any hunger until a week post-op. At that point it was not uncontrollable nor has it been since surgery. I am 10 weeks out.

Questions for post ops...
Bufflehead replied to Only1likeme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, bed ridden! Sorry, I should have figured that out. Naw, I wasn't bed ridden, not even in the hospital. I refused to get in the hospital bed except to sleep at night. I even napped sitting up in the glider chair in my room. Being at home taking care of myself was fine. I wasn't going to be cleared to drive for the first week so I made sure I had everything I needed on hand. I had a lifting restriction of 10 lbs, and I knew I wasn't going to be up for really heavy housework like mopping or vacuuming, so I got my housekeeper to come for an extra visit to take care of that, change the kitty litter, etc. I napped a lot for the first two weeks and took it easy but I didn't have issues with mobility or taking care of my basic needs. -
Hi. ..I have so many questions and I'm hoping some post op patients will have patients with me while I ask away...lol... I wanted to know if controlling your emotions and eating was hard those first 3 weeks. ..I hear you have to do an oz of Water every 15 mins? Was that hard? Then Protein. . protein. . what do you all suggest to get inthe daily amount . if I buy a huge container of protein for shakes. . is that good enough? I know this is life changing and I want to be ready. . prepared and aware. Have any of you had to come home on day 2 and just be need ridden? What Vitamins do you have to take our do they suggest? How long should you wait to have sex? How bad is the constipation? Has anyone slipped and taken ibuprofen? Keeping my fingers crossed

Focusing On Goals Or How I Drive Myself Crazy :oP
unbesleevable1 replied to Dondie Olivia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you cannot rush perfection or weightloss. personally, mine slowed down after about 5 months post op. i am still losing, but it's just a slower rate. i don't stress about it. i work out 3-4 x a week (running) and do some body weight exercises a few times a week. i eat pretty good, sometimes i get sloppy. when i want to re-focus my efforts, i cut out almost all carbs, and do Protein protein protein. also i mix up my workouts and do more hills/ sprints. this shet takes time. from a health perspective, the most you should be losing is a pound or 2 a week. -
How far apart do you get fills?
Humming Bird replied to Wheeler5051's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think mine were 8 weeks for the first 2 fills ...........then I went back after 9 months, ended up going back for an unfill that brought me back to the fill level of my 2nd fill again..... then I went 11 months. -
How far apart do you get fills?
vickyd replied to Wheeler5051's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first fill appointment was 6 weeks post op and after that every 4 weeks. So far, I have only had 1 fill (at the 3 month point) and I am doing so well that I now only go back every 8 weeks with the understanding that if I think I need a fill then I can make an appointment sooner. Each time I go in, I get weighed and then talk to the PA about my weight loss, portion sizes and hunger level before we determine if I am getting a fill - the reason I said "we" determine whether or not to do a fill is because they always ask my opinion (which I love because it means I have the final say as to what happens. -
I was just thinking this same thing driving home from the mall. I telecommute so I don't usually have to worry about work clothes, but I have a conference coming up in a week. I had to go shopping and I just wanted to cry. So tired of buying fat clothes. I wish this surgery was over yesterday. I have my consultation at the end of the month, but will have to wait until January for various reasons. I am just ready to start my new life. I have been researching and thinking for almost a year too, so I hear ya!

5 days post op. Is this full?
finally on my way replied to XXShelXX's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I am 9 days post op. I to get a similar sensation when full, or what I am learning is full. Also I had a lot of uncomfortable pressure into a low pain all through my first week associated with eating. I was unable to release gas. Every time I began to eat it would build quickly. I began to take 1 pepcid every 12 hours and 2-3 gasX throughout the day and it helped so much. I was able to finally eat with out discomfort! Now I do not need it. Keep up the great work and hang in there. We are on a similar time line in this new journey. Would be great to stay in touch.
