    Getting in your liquids?

It's challenging, I was hospitalized for dehydration.... I can't get the liquid in but after a 4 pound weight gain and getting stuck 7 times because they couldn't find my veins... I'm drinking my water, if it kills me...

    Hi from Dani

When my son was having his chemo and had to take alot of pills, I used to crush them and put them in a bite of Jello and it slid right down, and since jello is a clear liquid it is safe for you to take so soon post op. Once the swelling goes down from surgery you should be able to take your pills, but once you start getting your fills it is tougher to take med so either get in liquid form or crush it and put it in a bite of pudding, jello, or applesauce. I take liquid tylenol with 1.5 cc's in my band the pills got stuck no matter what I put it in..any antibiotics I have to take I ask for liquid form. Hopefully some of the meds you are taking now, once you lose weight you will no longer take them if they are for high blood pressure or diabetes or cholesterol..many people once they lose weight no longer have to take pills daily other then an antibiotic, tylenol when needed. I take chewable Vitamins also..COngratulations to you on your new band, I hope you have lots of success. I'm happy to hear you had such a pleasant experience
  3. I believe the clinical term for "successful" with WLS is to lose 60% of the excess weight. So yes, you are definitely above and beyond successful. CONGRATS!!!

Weight Loss Has Stopped 1 Year Out!

Yup, tracking. As you lose weight, the calories you need for basic metabolism decrease so you need to eat less if you are at a plateau. After you reach your goal weight, you can add them back slowly so that your weight is stable.

Hi Caelyn: Nice to hear from you! I am having my surgery in Salisbury by Dr. Sonfronski in January 2009. I have started on my requirement meetings and had my Upper GI, etc. I am getting excited. I have to keep a food journal and that has really showed me what I have been eating and it shows me that is why I am where I am-morbidly obese. I weight 267 pounds-I have lost 10 lbs since the start of this journey. You are so close to your sugery-great!! Let me know how you are doing so far. Debbie
  6. I am so there with you!!! I had lost 85 pounds and have gained back just over 20 in the past 2.5 to 3 months and I hate myself for it! I miss my size 16's!!! Granted, I'm thankful to still be much smaller than I was this time last year, but when I think of where I could be it makes me sick. I went this morning for a fill and made the decision to start over. No more will I give in to this awful cycle of feeling bad about myself, eating for comfort, and then feeling even worse. I feel like I just set myself up to fail over the last few months. I actually thought more than once, well, a size 16 is about the best I can probably do so I guess this is it... at my lowest I was 204 and now that seems so far away again. No more though!!! My doctor said it well this morning as I was leaving - welcome back on the "band" wagon, lol. Good luck!!!

    Diabetics?

Cathy, I am a type 1 diabetic and my weight loss was good at first but I've been at a stall for a while. My doctor told me that my weight loss would not be as fast because of the diabetes.
  8. Look at it this way: How many posts do you see on here that say "I've done everything right for _____# of months and I haven't lost any weight and I'm still huge. eh? eh? That should encourage you.

    everything hurts my tummy

I don't know about your other problems but I can atest to the Gall Bladder. You won't believe how that lil bugger can make everything feel real crappy. The worst part is rapid weight loss makes it worse. For years I always thought I had a stomach bug. I was on a diet that i lost 55 pounds in three months and after that it never stopped hurting all over my abdomen. Once they took it out I was amazed how everything was the fault of my gall bladder. Good luck.

    August 12th Surgery Date

I get the same feeling. I read a post the other day where someone was asking about the book "Body for Life" so I went to Borders yesterday and looked at it. It looks great and i am amazed by the results many have had with the strategies in the book. BUT, I know myself. I can only do this "on my own" for a short period of time and then I get hungry, tired and end up eating poorly again. The worst part is I always gain back everything I lost plus a few extra pounds. So whenever I get this "I can do this on my own" feeling I remind myself that the band will be the tool to help me do this on my own. It will be the tool that will keep me from over eating. It will be the tool so I will feel full sooner. If I don't eat correctly I will get a PB and from what I hear I really do not want that feeling.

    everything hurts my tummy

Call you doctor. Could be the gall bladder, an ulcer or a number of other things. Time to talk to the big kahuna. At three months out anything that is preventing your from getting all of your doctor's recommended Protein and Water needs to be addressed. As music said, there are lots of treatment options but they all begin with your doctor. Congratulations on your weight loss so far!!

Home from my follow up appointment.

don't let them get you down...from our "before" to the "after" is a dramatic change...and to many people we look too thin (is anyone ever TOO thin) ... some may be worried about your health... just keep on going until you feel you are where YOU need to be! I know my Dr. wants me to lose more than my goal; but I know my body and I don't want to go that low... I am happy that I am now a "functioning" human being instead of the Jabba that I used to be... I have RA, so losing weight before surgery had been impossible and I had become very lethargic...now I can move!!! Don't worry, be happy... I would assume you are taking Biotin for your hair (and nails) it really helped me...it was coming out in CLUMPS!!! Congrats!

    Sleeve vs. Band please help!

Ohh and also, I was thinking about the Band as well. But when I went to the orientation @ Kaiser Fremont, the surgeon specifically said that 1 out of every 5 people who get the band will have some sort of complication with in the first 5 years. And he said that the Band is not meant to be a life long devise. When he said that I realized that I did not want to lose all my weight just to have to keep going under the knife so to speak just to maintain.
  14. It's official. I'm getting old because I can't figure this out- of course I'm on my phone as my laptop crashed. Anyway- I'm SUPER excited to get the sleeve done and hopefully that will be mid September. FINALLY some hope to this yo yo weight problem is going to come to an end. In all honesty- when the day comes the staff at the hospital should probably prepare as I will totally be freaking out (petrified of hospitals) BUT good will come of it right? So that's my first post. Boring but I'll be reading others and will chat more I'm sure
  15. Ok.... I did it!! Surgery was yesterday at 11:30!! I have not been sick yet and I'm eating chicken broth and Jello just fine. The Water did give a little nausea, so I'm trying to get my liquids with the broth and jello. I also had my hernia repaired and I haven't had any problems so far!!! My gallbladder surgery 2 years back was worse than this!! I'm excited to see how my body reacts to the weight loss and looking forward to my first bites!!

    Heaviest Weight - 320+ (2006)

From the album: Months 1 to 3

  17. Sleeved dec17. I would have to say my success so far has been not eating, thinking or even look at rice, pasta soda and anything carbonated since being sleeved. Non success for me would be maintaining the same weight for the past 2 months. :-( YEP! Ive lost nothing in the past two months. Im sooo frustrated at that being that i still have a good 50pounds to goal weight. I really hate to think My weight loss stopped just after 4 months of surgery. My tool is just fine. I still eat small amounts as the first 4 months but it just isnt coming off in scale numbers or body inches.

    ADD Medication

If you chat with your surgeon he may make some recommendations for you. I had RNY and take several medications and the only one i have had a problem with is thyroid replacement. It isn't so much about the absorption as it has been about keeping up with the weight loss and regulating it. I am on a time released drug and that has worked perfectly. Pain medication however metabolizes much faster for me. Also, I have found with time, medications that I once could not take work great now. If you talk with your surgeon and your doctor they may be able to work with you on a ADD med that will work for you with the RNY.
  19. OK... So I had my surgery last year and to date I have lost 80 lbs. Well recently my husband has been having some insecurities. I know I have changed only because I have gotten my self confidence back and am feeling good about myself. But he acts as if I am showing off for other people and that one day I will leave him for someone else. We have been together for 11 years and have been married for 9. All this is causing us to drift apart and it is scaring the hell out of me. I am wondering if I was still fat would he still be having these issues. I just want to know how other are dealing with the weight loss...

How well does your husbands adjust to you weight loss?

I'm going through the same thing with my husband. I've lost 80 pounds too. He was insecure to begin with and me losing weight isn't helping. He is so scared that I am going to leave him for someone else. I've started caring more about my appearance which leads him to believe I am improving my appearance for someone else. When I go shopping for clothes, I try to include him. I ask for his opinion on outfits. I get things that he likes. On a daily basis, I tell him how much I love him and how sexy I think he is. All you can do is keep reassuring him that you love him and that you aren't going anywhere.
  21. Hi. I just got my lap band on Jan. 15 and am feeling pretty good now. Days 3 and 4 were hard and I was sick a little yesterday. Did not know it was going to be so rough, but I think I can stick it out. I've lost 17 pounds since December 20 when I started on liquids. I was originally scheduled for surgery on December 30, but was sent home because of an infection. So, I had to do the liquid diet preparation twice! I was banded in Dallas by Dr. Jayaseelan and he has been great! I'm lucky to have such a supportive family and tons of supportive friends. I'm looking forward to my weight loss journey.

    Help-4 fills and no results

I have had 5 fills (banded 2/3/10). I am up to 7cc in a 9cc band! I am not at that "sweet spot" but I can tell some little changes are happening with the band. I am down 39lbs since surgery. I had to have my Gallbladder out yesterday so my weight is up a little today with fluid retention. Hang in there. You did not say how many cc's you have?
  23. I just got off my scale and realized that I am upset that I'm only losing about 1 pound a week. HAHA! I love that complaint. To think that before this I was lucky not to gain one pound a week- forget about losing it! Anyone else notice this complaint of themselves? I love my band!!

    Former Lapband Patient

your story is similar to mine in that I have a lapband and was very active at LBT UNTIL I decided to have a revision to the sleeve; my surgery is in three days. The sleeve is permanent and the lapband is not. I am now glad to be getting a permanent surgery for my weight loss journey. Best of luck to you and keep posting!!

    Lack of weight loss

Ok - breathe. When is the last time you lost 9lbs (for good) in 6 weeks? Or 59lbs in one concerted effort? YOU'VE GOT THIS! ALREADY! If you're sticking to your plan, as you say, then you cannot *not* lose a big pile of weight. It just doesn't come off in a linear fashion - you will experience stalls (many) and big whooshes of loss (fewer). You just have to relax into this and trust the process if you follow the rules - you now have your tool, if you use it properly you will lose an absolute shedload of weight. Enjoy the ride. 🤩
