    December 2018 Sleevers!

So, I am on day 5 of the liquids only and it's going pretty good. My best friend, this woman is truly my person, is doing a version of the liquid diet with me because she didn't want me to feel like I was alone. She completed the first 4 days liquid only, but I talked her into having at least one low carb/high protein meal a day because, first of all she doesn't need to lose a pound and second of all I was worried that the medicine that she takes would make her sick. I BEGGED and PLEADED and she FINALLY agreed. My husband prepped for this phase for me by going to the grocery store and purchasing plenty of said liquids, jello, pudding, etc. He has put in his time to take a week off from work, which is a blessing. I prepped myself over the course of the last 4 months by doing several (and I do mean several) liquid diets for various lengths of time. I fast periodically anyway, but I wanted to condition my body for this. It's a big difference between liquids only for 1 week and liquids only for 4 weeks. From all of my prior liquids only diets and fasts, I knew that Day 1 and Day 2 would be HARD for me. The kind of hard where you contemplate cheating. I expected it, so, to combat it I emptied my usual carry bag which usually contains protein chips, a protein bar, a protein water, and a protein shake, I took the chips and the bar out and doubled the protein shake and protein water. I still carry my usual thermos of water. I wanted to make sure I have enough liquids on me to last while I am out running errands, etc. so that when hunger hits, I won't go nuts. I knew the end of Day 3 would find me in bed early finishing off the end of my battling through constant headaches. So, Day 5-10 should be decent. I am sure I will have the occasional headache and battles with feeling weak. I have NO idea what awaits after Day 10, as I've only gone ten days. Fingers crossed! It gets tough, but we can do this!! I am just focused on the journey and enjoying seeing the pounds continue to come off. How is it coming for everyone else? VSG- 12/6
  2. I was sleeved 10/14. I was never nauseous before surgery. Now, things are different. I don’t feel hungry anymore, but when it’s close to a time for me to eat (for example when I wake up in the morning before I eat breakfast), I feel nauseous. Same if I have a late lunch - I will feel nauseous until I eat something. After I eat, nausea goes away. Problem is, I don’t have much appetite, nothing is appealing when you’re nauseous so it’s hard to force myself to eat a few bites to relieve the nausea. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Tips to relieve the nausea?
  3. That's great @GreenTealael I'm just doing mild IF, not eating in the morning because I'm naturally not hungry. I'm not timing it, but it likely 14:10 or something like that (or would that be 10:14?) Weight is continuing to come off slowly, which is amazing considering the crap I've been eating. I'm still in the honeymoon period it seems! Or maybe it's the cardio

    Sleeve Post Op Diet

So I think someone on Instagram helped me with this - they suggested and I bought unflavored protein (I bought Unjury brand but there's tons) and I add it to my water bottle with a packet of crystal light. That way I am getting in protein and liquid simultaneously. Since I started doing that, I haven't had a problem hitting my protein goal of 60-70 grams per day. One scoop is 21 grams, I normally just do one scoop per day, 1/2 scoop in 2 bottles of water. That 21 grams is HUGE, since I already get 30 from a protein shake then the rest from whatever foods I eat. FYI I am 19 days post-op, on day 5 of my 2 week puree diet, and I personally do not have any issues getting my fluids in as I drink pretty much all day. There's literally a 32 ounce water bottle not 6 inches from my hand as I type this. Hope things get easier!

    Hard time

My surgeon told me to expect 8-10 lbs a month, so that sounds about right? But true everyone loses at different rate. Don’t focus only the number on the scale, sometimes it’s best not to weigh yourself daily and just stay the course! Good luck!

Two Years Out and Major Weight Regain

I'm a little over a year out and wasn't too big to begin with, so weight loss wasn't as huge, but I was down from 230 to 167. I went to the dr yesterday and weighed 190. I have been going to the gym, which is also hard for me to do since I have IC and working out causes flare ups. (Anyone else with IC on here?) I do eat bad sometimes, but have stayed on track for the most part as most "bad" foods also cause a flare up. And every protein shake I have tried for the past few months have been making me SO nauseous. Anyone have any suggestions? I wear a size medium in tops and a 10/12 in jeans. Although my size hasn't changed, the pounds have and I feel like you can see it. I have been so down about it and have been strict with what I eat. I need tips and motivation :(
  7. Hey, all, After years and years of putting off surgery, I finally underwent a gastric bypass procedure on November 6 of this year. On one hand, I was pleasantly surprised that I really did not suffer any significant pain or complications, etc. However, since I have been feeling well (and perhaps overly confident), over the past few days, there were a few instances when I inadvertently drank my few protein shakes too fast (which were made with a mixed base of water, skim milk, Isopure, and half a banana (which my NUT has approved), to the point where I felt a tinge of discomfort. Moreover, I admit that I was being rather foolish because I did not really measure the amount of liquid that I put into the blender before downing the shake (I imagine close to about 10 -11 oz?). Too much, I know. Although I would not say that I was in pain, I am now incredibly worried that I have already messed up my surgery and stretched out my stoma. I have already promised myself that from now on, I will measure everything that I consume, but I am concerned that the damage has been done, so to speak. Does anyone have any advice (like a pouch reset)? Has anyone experienced something similar? Am I being overly paranoid? :( Thank you all in advance, V.V.

    October 2018 Sleevers

I was sleeved on 10/16 and stalled for 3.5 weeks at 2.5 weeks out. I am now 6 weeks and just dropped 4 lbs...whew.. I will say I see a major difference in clothes fitting despite the stall. Almost none of my old clothes fit anymore. Take lots of photos and measurements to use because the scale does not always tell the truth. [emoji12] Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Checking in! RNY July 5 th HW 257, SW 240, CW 193. Things are going well so far, my biggest challenges have been eating out with friends! Eating out is such a social thing I struggle with what to order, usually try to share and just have a small amount of whatever but it’s not always healthy.......oh, and I found out that iron isn’t my friend 😩. Trying to find one that won’t cause constipation! My weight loss has been slower then some but I am over 60 so there is that! But I had lost the same amount of weight 10 years ago on WW and it took 2 years so when I look at it that way it’s amazing!

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I was sleeved on 10/30/18, had some respiratory complications, aside from that, the surgery was a walk in the park. I’m 4 weeks post-op today and lost 17 lbs since surgery and 27 lbs since pre-op diet. I feel I need to exercise more frequently as I hit a 10-day stall now and don’t know what to do. I am having 700-800 calories a day and 70-80 grans of protein, drink 64 oz of water but my exercise routine is very unpredictable: there are weeks I work out most of the days and others I don’t...losing motivation and that can’t happen...how do you guys keep motivated and a positive mindset?
  11. Hi Folks. Question that you all may or may not have run into. I had roux-en-y GBS 1.5 years ago. Lost almost 100 pounds. That is going well. I have some chronic back issues (degenerative disc dz in lumbar and cervical region) and have done all the injections, radiofrequency ablations, epidural blocks, etc., that I can manage. Pain persists, but ortho has stated it is not appropriate for surgery. To be fair, I wasn't really going around hunting down someone to operate b/c the idea of back surgery is not exactly thrilling to me, having taken care of the post-op back surgery patients in home health and with the back surgery success rate of 50%. Prior to surgery, I was able to take NSAIDs and certainly took my share. My surgeon stated no way on the NSAIDs. After me badgering him, he allowed me to take Celebrex 100mg twice a day along with Nexium 40mg once a day. I did this for 3 weeks. I ended up with a peptic ulcer which had to be treated for a month with a multiple medication cocktail. It was not fun. The ulcer was way more painful that the neck and back pain I originally had. For a while, I managed on regular or arthritis-strength OTC tylenol. Then, my pain management doctor rx'd Vicodin, which is never a good long term solution. So, I took it, with the knowledge that I shouldn't take this long term. I've dc'd this myself and I am still in pain. Also prohibited by my GBS surgeon are oral steroids (prednisone, prednisolone, etc.) FWIW, I have unsuccessfully taken Cymbalta, Neurontin, and a few other neuro-type drugs. I take Lexapro for moderate depression. I can't take a number of meds also because of my epilepsy history from the age of 9. Oh, and I maxed out my chiro benefit this year (20 visits.) Out of pocket, chiro is $70/visit and the chiro wants me there twice a week. I have expressed that I really loved his services but I can't afford $140/week. I used to get 90 minute deep tissue massages about every 10 days, but my therapist moved far, far away and I've struggled to find someone even half as good. Currently doing epsom salt baths, Tylenol, and heat and or cool packs. Normally, I'm good but unusual activity types usually throw me over the edge. (This weekend had a house flood which entails me and my family moving lots and lots of things from one area of the house to another.) I've even done acupuncture, but the cost was prohibitive ($900 for 3 treatments.) I even have my own TENS unit and foam rollers. I do some strengthening and stretching exercises on my own, which helps too. I need to find a better solution for pain management. Anyone find solutions and/or good providers who have a handle on this? I will travel to see someone good. Thanks in advance!

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I know my one year update is a little late, but still wanted to chime in and say how great everyone is doing! The last few pounds are so hard to lose, I still have 10 lbs to go to meet my goal weight, but I will get there. I really wanted to reach that goal by my wedding date, but I didn’t get there. It’s hard not to get discouraged or become unmotivated, but when I think about where I was a year ago, I’ve come a long way and I have to push through. I know I can do it. Positive mindset is key! Here are progress pictures. Hopefully soon I can add when I meet my goal weight (fingers crossed)!
  13. Absolutely! My situation is s little different than most. I had a Lap Band for 10 years. I lost 100+ lbs and kept it off for years. I had my band emergency removed. I thought I could maintain the weight myself but I ended up putting back on 100 lbs in a year. I was sleeved in October. Even though I’ve lost 36 lbs so far, I am unable to be happy about it. I couldn’t see how bad it was when I was gaining but now that I’m loseing it, it’s very sobering. I suspect I won’t be able to be proud of my accomplishment until I’ve hit 100+ lbs lost.

    Michigan meet up

That's how I've been feeling too. Plus with Thanksgiving, I discovered that Hurley's post op diet seems to be more restrictive than most (only eat what is listed on the page...) So I found myself feeling really alone. Like I was seriously the only one not allowed to steal some finely shredded turkey and a bite of mashed potatoes. 😕 Today I got to the tuna fish and mushy cereal stage so I'm feeling a little better. But that happened two weeks ago when I got refried beans for the first time too. Lol When I went to clinic this morning I found out my surgery twin at Hurley, Michelle, actually lives in Columbiaville, about 10/15 minutes from me. I wonder how many more of us are in the area? I was going to call on the group at the church but ended up putting it off as I'm afraid they will be doing some kind of pot luck or Christmas dinner in December and I just can't do that...not right now. If I'm still struggling, I might call about going in January but it depends on what time they meet.

  18. Hi there, I purchased 6 months worth of Barimelt vitamins. They're fine...except for the calcium citrate. They make me feel nauseous. Does anyone else like/want these? I don't want them to go to waste. All 6 bottles are unopened except for one. Message me if you're interested in buying them from me. They're $22.99. I'll sell them to you for $10 a bottle if you want to Venmo me payment. Here's the vitamin I'm talking about: https://www.barimelts.com/products/calcium-citrate
  19. That is the question. Upon close examination of my eating habits, I find that I am more likely to snack and feel head hunger when I eat breakfast within an hour of waking vs. many many hours later. This was true for me pre-op, but my nut and docs were adamant that I include breakfast in my daily diet. I have eaten 1 scrambled egg white, 3oz of turkey sausage coins, and 3oz of caramalized onion/sauteed mushrooms every day since introducing "real" food again. I wake up at 6am and eat no later 7am, even if I'm not feeling hungry. On the very few days I don't have time to make myself breakfast I pack an extra yogurt, head out the door, and forget about food until about 10:30 or 11. Has anyone else experienced this? Do you trust your gut (pun intended) or stick to the doc's orders? I am curious to know if there are long term cons to not eating breakfast within a certain time past waking up.

    Gastric Sleeve 💪🏾

I started out at 372 lbs I lost 57 lbs pre-op (through both my six-month supervised diet that my insurance required, and through the two-week liquid diet that my surgeon required). The rest of it took me 18 months to lose. I got down to 138 at one point, but I've since bounced back a bit (they say a 10- to 20-pound gain is very common after you hit your low point). I seem to have stabilized in the 147-151 range - I've been here for quite awhile. I try hard to keep it under 150, though. When my weight creeps over 150, it's all hands on deck - I become a real stickler about following my program until I'm back under 150.

    My first 5K

Start training with some "couch to 5k" plans, and don't be afraid to modify them. They are typically 9-12 week interval training plans. You walk a bunch, then jog a little for 25 minutes, 3 times a week. Then the following week, shorter walk and longer jog intervals for the 25 minutes. Then you get to when you jog 10 minutes, walk 30 seconds or a minute, then jog 10 minutes. Finally you just jog 20 minutes, then add time to it each week. I did it in about 16 weeks. If you can walk the 3 miles, you can start your interval training I also used MapMyWalk fitness app, and a TABATA timer app. The timer is nice to set it when you are doing something like 10 sets of jogging 2 minutes and walking 30 seconds for example. They give you 3-5 second alarms before the next section and even alarms at halfway points of walking and jogging.
  25. Check in! Monday weight in at 189.8 the morning! So down 4.2 since the challenge started. Yay me! Haven't got the routine of the intermittent fasting down yet. My worse time for eating is between 5-9 pm. And I haven't been exercising yet. I am working 7 days a week still, 10-14 hrs a day, so my time is limited and i am exhausted but i have to make myself work out even if it is 15 minutes on the treadmill. I am going to start this week!
