LEss than 1 week 'til my Geyonce' transformation!

Congratulations on your success with the Optifast. It's a small world! I was at that nutritional class on Tues as well but didn't meet with the anesthesiologist after. Your surgery is a week before mine and on my son's birthday! Please keep us posted, I'm looking forward to hearing someone's surgery experience with the same doctors that I am using. Good Luck!
  2. I'm so excited! I was finally given the green light from my insurance company after several months of frustration. My original surgery date was early August but insurance never gave me an answer until now. SO, my new surgery date is November 12th! I'm nervous but excited. My husband and most family members are against me having this surgery but my husband says he will support my decision. I'm so glad he love me! I feel my biggest hurdle is going to be the pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks. Any suggestions out there on how to make it through that time in a "graceful" manner??? Anyway, I'm thrilled to finally have approval and a date!

    How Long??

For me it was just under three months.
  4. I'm 3 weeks and still on full liquids. Week 5 is puréed foods, week 6 is soft foods and week 7 starts the adventures into regular eating! I took a miniature bite of lobster on NYE that I pulverized. But otherwise I am following my diet. I'd be afraid of steak and pork for now. But I'm only judging by my external scars and thinking of what my staple line may look like! ???? I hope you have luck!!
  5. I started my pre op June 7th and had my surgery June 21st.. I'm down 26 pounds.. But I think Im already having my first stall. Its bugging the crap out of me.
  6. I am 2 weeks out and have no issues with beef, pork or fluids,,, I dont blend but chew very very well.... The Water and everthing else gos down fine also, ANYONE else like this
  7. I had my surgery three weeks ago. Today is the first time I actually have to go to the bathroom and I've been trying for the past three hours and it has been the most painful experience of my life. I kind of experienced this twice after both of my children's births, but this time is far worse. Any advice on how to get through this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Hard to say. Some people recommend chewing papaya tablets. Are you eating solids? My doctor did not allow solids until week 5. If you had a bad stuck episode you may be very swollen tomorrow. I would go back to full liquids for one day, and then eat mushies for another week. I was on mushies week 3 and 4. Week three was cottage and ricotta and week four canned chicken.
  9. Possibly the reason that 3 weeks sounds late for a first post op appointment is because of the different way that surgery is done in Aus. We are not done as day patients, most of us stay in overnight so we are checked the next day to ensure that everything is OK. As far as I am aware most people get a fill at 3 - 4 weeks although some Dr's stretch it to 6. Some people have a fill whilst they are in surgery although that can cause problems. In Australia most Dr's follow a protocol of small regular fills - they do not seem to use the aggressive fill schedule that many US Drs do. It is not necessary to be on solids prior to getting a fill, it can be done whilst on soft/mushies with no problem. Some people go for months without a fill as for some reason they don't seem to need one. So everyone is different as is every Dr.

    First Post Surgery Dr Appt?

I think it is 4-6 weeks for your first fill, if your dr thinks you need one.

    First Post Surgery Dr Appt?

My nurse was just at a Allergen conference and said that one of the things they spoke about at the conference is something called micro fills. Like elcee described, small regular fills and when you are close to restriction.........micro fills, tiny ones. I am going for my first fill next week so will ask some more questions about that, because I travel 6hrs each direction for my appts.
  12. I have my post-op appointment at the end of the month and he is just going to look at my incisions. I think the first fill would not be until after we are into the solid stage. And keep in mind that some people do not even get fills sometimes. I feel the same way about knowing how it fits. Since we are still the liquid phase it will be hard to tell; if at all. I start mushies next week and cannot wait until I get that full feeling. As for the feeling queasy, I don't know much about that. I only felt queasy after I got up the first time at the hospital. Just take it slow and take LITTLE LITTLE LITTLE bites and sips. I don't think I went to anything that was not clear until about 4 days after surgery; I was allowed to but I was scared. Popsicles were, and still are, my friend.
  13. It makes total sense, and I know the feeling completely! It kind of makes me teary to read your story, because it's a very powerful experience for those of us who have been through it. That's why I find this site helpful. I've had my band for 7 years. I had really started to take it for granted and forget what it's like. I've maintained 100+ pound weight loss (although I lost more than that and have gained back - but I'm on my way back down). It can be emotionally overwhelming at times - fear of failure, fear of success, pride, freedom, power, helplessness, excitement - all of it at the same time! Good for you! If you can, print out your post or copy and paste it into a private journal somewhere. Down the road when you stall or become discouraged (because it happens to all of us at some point), go back and read it. Remember why you are doing this and just how amazing it is!
  14. Have my 6 week follow up tomorrow and first fill. I've lost 29lbs but feel no restriction so I'm confident they will give me a fill. I'm nervous but excited at the same time! Hope everyone is well!

    Wedding Dress Blues

Hi Ladies, I am getting married next month and still don't have a dress. I went to davids Bridal to buy one off the rack. I have lost 66 lbs and I still need a size 26 wedding dress but i can wear size 22 pants. This was very disappointing. My question is does anyone have a beautiful dress in a 26 they want to sell or know where I can purchase one off the rack in ohio, chicago, or Indiana? Any help would be great ahving a small vegas wedding. Trying to get rid of at lest 10 lbs in 2 weeks....lol Thanks for your help.
  16. Rose, Welcome! You've come to the right place. I've found such a warm, caring and receptive group here. I was banded 6/25/07, and found the group after the banding. I so wished I had found them before hand. I went through an emotional time the first couple of weeks, and the folks here are awesome. Feel free to ask any question, bring any topic up, or chime in whenever the urge strikes. I've learned so much here about the band, and how I'm not alone in all of this. We're all in it together!!! Best of luck to you... Peggy
  17. Please call me Rose! I'm so happy to have found these forums, I feel like I've been on a very lonely and scary ride. I do have an excellent lap-band doctor (Dr. Deol in Michigan) and I've been to her seminar, had my first consultation, and I'm currently going through a lot of tests from other doctors, to make sure I'm healthy for the lap-band surgery. I've seen many doctors so far, but still have a ways to go, no surgery date yet. My starting weight is 248 pounds, my height is only 5'2", making my BMI 45.4, putting me into the morbidly obese catagory (sigh). I have a lot of health problems in my family history, including diabetes, heart disease, and several types of cancer. My current problems are "only" high blood pressure, degenerative joint disease, and *possible* coronary artery heart disease, but this has not been confirmed yet (seeing my cardiologist next week). I want to lose this weight first to improve my health, and hopefully avoid further health problems, second to improve ENERGY (don't we all need some of this! :whoo: ) and last just to look and feel better about myself! I'm so tired of baggy unattractive clothes. Being short, it's even harder to find clothes - I think the clothes stores assume all heavy people must be tall! So that's a little about me . . . I'm hoping to get all these tests done and get banded SOON! I could use any support and suggestions anyone cares to offer :help: I don't have much in the way of family at all, and could use someone to really talk to. My husband supports me 100%, and he's a good listener, but he's just not the best talker. I have an 11 year old son that has autism. I just need someone who really understands all of this! Thanks so much, looking forward to talking to all of you!
  18. Hi everybody! This is my first post. I've got about 125 lbs to loose and I am so ready to start this journey. I am awaiting approval from my insurance company. Last week I completed my psychological assessment, which is the last thing BCBS said they needed. Not sure how long the approval process takes, but I am ready to go tomorow if I could! I know all insurance companies are different, but does anyone have any experience with Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey?
  19. Thanks so much for your reply, Dar! I live in S. Georgia, but work for a very large corp and our BCBS carrier is in NJ. So far, they have been so helpful and my Dr. is wonderful. I have had so much support from friends, family and my health care providers. I absolutely cannot wait! I just want to be able to do normal things again. I have a list of about 100 things that I started many weeks ago - some seem silly, but they are all important to me. I would love to hear your story. Can I find this on your profile? I'm brand new to the site, so please forgive me if I seem to ask silly questions.
  20. Hi Rose I was banded 7/17 - and this is where I got tons of info prior to being banded (joined in May) - the people on this site are wonderful. I too had TONS of doctors appointments prior to being banded - due to my age and never going to the doctors - heart (failed the treadmill - they had to do a nuclar stress test-don't ask me how they thought a fat 52 yr old couch potato was going to run on a treadmill for any lenght of time:o) colonospcy - mamo - pap - lungs (smoker) - sleep test - 14 vials of blood - shrink - but all those visits were worth it. I have lost 20 as of last week - tomorrow is my weigh in day (wish me luck). I did this for the same reason that you are looking in to it - I want to be healthy .. Welcome - read - ask questions - we are hear for you... :tea:

    "In between" sizes . . . . grrr

I tend to lose from the top down. So I can be in a 14/16 from the boobs up and a 18/20 in something that covers my stomach. So stuff is baggy in the chest but looks okay over my tummy. Bizarre, really. I'm to the point where all the size 20 jeans I bought are slightly too big, but I'm not inclined to spend money on new jeans just yet. I will say that I was never so happy to be able to shop at Old Navy since they carry up to 20 in the stores. I am loath to go into a Lane Bryant now even though I still wear plus sizes. I just keep thinking in another couple of weeks or a month I will be in a 16.
  22. So I've been obsessing about the scales lately because I've hit the dreaded stall. But I noticed my clothes fitting a lot bigger lately. So I decided to try on a few pairs of jeans and pants in my closet. And they ALL zipped up!!!! Every single last one of them. Even the ones I thought wouldn't get past my thighs. I'm so beyond thrilled. Pretty soon they won't fit because they are too big!
  23. It's all new

    Treat?

Ok, I did it. I gave in. I got some frozen yogurt, about three ounces. It was satisfying and tasty, no ill effects. In the future maybe a sugar free fudge Popsicle would work- it really wasn't that much better! But I had built it up in my mind... And nothing else would do. Thanks for your thoughts!

    Sleeve With A Toddler?

IMO, it'll be doable but difficult based on my surgeon's post-op rules. I'm not to lift more than 5lbs or bend for 6-8 weeks after surgery. I know I could not get away with that it my boys were still as small as you little one. As to the food aspect of recovery, a friend of mine who had rny done found that once she got to full foods again that the portion she made her then two year old was the perfect size for her as well.

    Ahhhhhh! Victory!

Thank you all! I'm so pumped and ready for a new me! I can't wait for a new me! And I weighed myself this morning and I'm down a pound!!! So the stall may be letting up.
