  1. Sugar free ice pops, chicken broth helps too. There’s a clear protein drink that’s 20 grams of protein i had to water it down it’s super sweet to me. You can make your own broth with chicken and veggies too, just strain it. I’m better, but it wasn’t fun in the beginning. Things still don’t taste right to me but today I was so happy to finally drink a whole cup of coffee. I didn’t have to drink decaf after I went to full liquids. I actually like Peets decaf it helped me that week I had to. Once I started eating more food I wasn’t as tired anymore, thank goodness. I would sit and just fall asleep like I had narcolepsy. 😂😂. You can’t drink Premier Protein? I hated whey protein though and I used to like it. I want to try it in the blender with peanut butter powder and half a banana. Someone know said it’s good so I’ll give it a shot. Every day is better. Just remember sip sip sip and keep moving. I felt almost normal by The end of the fourth week. I had 16 here for Thanksgiving, too!
  2. My RNY to RNY revision surgery will be December 21, assuming COVID doesn't throw a monkey wrench into the plans. I've been on a high protein/low carb Liver Reduction Diet for 7 months. I started with a two week full liquid diet to see if I could do it. The joke is on me: this clinic doesn't prescribe it. I will have to do two days of clear liquids for two days prior to surgery,1 day post-surgery, then full liquids for7 days, followed by 2-3 weeks of soft food, then gradually introducing "real" food.
  3. You might check with Dr. Victor Gonzalez in Dallas. (Medical Center Dallas on Forrest) He's who I just used for revision surgery. If it is medically necessary, it just is. He's a good surgeon. I had a sleeve to RNY revision almost two weeks ago.

    Sick all the time

those are pretty rare after the first three months post-op, but I suppose .. The numbing part is weird, though - unless it's from malnutrition? Anyway, yes, you're right - not normal or healthy. I'm hoping the surgeon checked all this out.

Clear liquids post-Op for 7 days?

I had revision surgery due to severe reflux. I got RNY two weeks ago this Friday. Yes, the day after Thanksgiving is when I did it. Ugh! I haven't had ANY reflux since surgery. I've moved on to smashed refried beans with no problems, but I'm supposed to be on a clear liquid diet of protein and broth for two weeks. Full liquids (no bumps or lumps), cream soups, milk and everything on the clear liquid diet.
  6. 1st lap band, my surgeon came in and said all went well, you can go home, you’re eating soup for next 3 weeks and walk a lot. No take home meds. Review in a week. Yeah I think Doc not too interested. Sorted it out with my GP.
  7. I know that there are a million topics about this already but to be honest I was still having a hard time mixing my protein powder (isopure zero carb) into hot soups for the full liquid phase. If I mixed it first, getting out all the lumps, then microwaved it, it would curdle. If I mixed with water and added it after heating, it would thin out the soup too much and cool it down even faster. I tried blender bottles, a vitamix, and milk frothers and nothing was working. I am having much better luck mixing the powder with a tiny bit of broth (just water was diluting the soup flavor). Mix it up into a thick paste and there are still dry spots and lumps. Then just leave it for a few minutes and it finishes mixing all on its own. The consistency starts off as thick oatmeal and after sitting is like heavy cream without any lumps. I then add that to the heated soup and don’t get any lumps, thin out the soup or dilute the flavor! I’m just super happy to have finally figured out something that doesn’t totally suck after 2 weeks of liquids. 😅 I guess it also helps that I am adding salt to the soups. It’s just 3oz of soup, and more sat is the only thing making this doable.
  8. Wow, wow, wow! I have noticed changes in my gait as well as foot dropping. It has intensified over the last weeks. I am seeing a chiropractor and it is helping. He is also having me work on stretching my hips. But this is exactly it. And yes, I've been crossing my legs too much. I am now really working on not doing it. Although I don't fit the definition of really skinny as I encountered in the articles I read, I have lost a disproportionate amount of weight from my legs since surgery which may have impacted the fat pocket that @MandoGetsSleevedreferred to.

    Last Supper

My incredibly kind neighbors prepared my "last supper". It was unreal. Filet mignon. Lobster tail. Cheesy potatoes. Roasted Brussels sprouts. And for dessert? Spiced chocolate pot de creme. I'm still dreaming about that meal...today is Day 3 of my 2-week pre-op diet.
  10. Keep going. I guess I'm experiencing a stall almost 6 weeks out. Keep going.

So hungry 15 minutes after eating

Oh I hear you. I am 3 weeks out and I was ravenous for two and a half of those so don't give up hope (I was just about to!) Over the last few days as I have been eating more protein and more solid textures it has definitely reduced drastically and I am staying much fuller for much longer after my still very small meals (1/3 cup approx). And what vikingbeast said. ^^^^
  12. I can't see that some tofu or even tempeh pureed in your soup would be any different to pureed chicken. I suspect either might end up a bit grainy. I definitely was not allowed shredded chicken at 8 days - programs really do seem to vary hugely though. I did puree some very soft lamb with veg for my first pureed dinners and it was gorgeous (but I don't have a problem with texture). I am 3 weeks post op today and just had my first soft food (fish pie filling without the potato topping).

    Macros/calories

At 6 weeks out, I was averaging about 800kcal a day, 70g protein min, 50g carbs max. Around 6 weeks is when I hit mostly "normal" foods per my plan, and I've been about that ever since. Some days are a little more, some a little less. I am a little "behind" where my program would have me. They suggest closer to 1000kcal per day, especially now that I've started introducing regular exercise again, but that is really a stretch for me. So I'm just focusing on making sure I'm hitting my protein and fluids and listening to my hunger queues. There is no right or wrong, and every program has their own guidelines. Listen to your surgeon/dietician and if you need more personalized guidance, don't hesitate to seek it out!

Had surgery 11/29: a new life starts

Don't worry too much about it. I just had a trip to visit a friend who is a real gourmand. He loves good food, and has excellent taste in restaurants. So we went as a group and ordered "family style" and I just ate little bites. The food was very rich, but I was still able to enjoy it, just not as much. I had surgery about three months ago. I have had sushi since then. It can be a lot of rice so I will order a little sashimi and then just one or two pieces of nigiri sushi. You can do this. And you won't have the same problem we in the US do, because portions are not ridiculously huge in Finland like they are here. Onnea ja jatka eteenpäin sisulla 💪
  15. Most people can eat nearly anything, albeit in small quantities, after healing. As an example, I'm just short of three months out. I had a long road trip yesterday, on roads that do not go through many towns (in six hours I went through three places with ANY population at all—Nevada is a very remote place). One town had a McDonald's. I had most of a Chicken McDeadlet kid's meal with milk (drank the milk later). Another one literally only had a pizza place. I had half a slice of pizza. I survived. You learn to prioritize protein and let the rest happen as it can (vegetables next, then starches). Bariatric multivitamins aren't actually much different that regular multivitamins; they may be in more easily digestible forms, but most patients don't need that after a few months out. Iron, B12, and calcium are the usual things we need more than others, and those are not so hard to find (and you can get them from food if you truly need to).

    Macros/calories

At six weeks out I was around 800 calories a day (I know this because my former NUT blew a gasket at how much I was eating...). Now at twelve weeks out I am eating around 1400.
  17. The other thing is that immediately post-op, you are still producing a lot of stomach acid... and not eating solid food for that acid to act on. So you get these wrenching "starving" feelings that aren't actually hunger, they're idle stomach acid. Mine went away right around when my incisions stopped itching, so 3-4 weeks, just as I graduated to purées. Now I never have those feelings.

So hungry 15 minutes after eating

A few things. 1. You won't really feel the restriction you have until you get to real, solid food. And some foods will make you feel full faster than others. I ate part of a pancake and felt full for hours. Pork makes me feel fuller than chicken or beef. Everybody is different, and every body is different. 2. I had hunger after and discovered, thanks to my surgeon, that what I think is "hunger" is actually reflux/heartburn. It doesn't happen often but yesterday I had a bit of pizza (options were extremely limited) and felt "hungry". I took a Pepcid per my doctor and suddenly didn't feel hungry any more. 3. Not everyone loses their hunger. Most people feel it 'blunted' at first, but some people just don't. 4. Two weeks after surgery, your body is still producing the same amount of stomach acid it did when you had the larger stomach. It takes some time to stop doing that, and in the meantime not only did my stomach growl, I made the most horrible personal noises! It went away around the time my incisions stopped itching, so 3-4 weeks post-op. Stick to your plan. It will help you, and it WILL get better.
  19. I had the sleeve done two weeks ago I'm currently eating soft foods like cottage cheese and tuna but after I eat till I'm full after about 15 minutes I'm completely hungry again stomach growling and everything I am so depressed I can't live like this I don't know why it's happening and it's not head hunger I would happy to never eat again I told my Dr she just said it will get better but I don't believe her I don't know what to do I can't spend the rest of my life having to eat every 20 minutes I wanna have a life

Clear liquids post-Op for 7 days?

I have one week clear liquids then two weeks of full liquids before I move on to puree foods. There is very little protein on the clear liquids but I believe the point is to be sure your organs are healing and not getting any leaks. Probably want everything to move quickly through the stomach for now while the staple line heals. It's a challenge but worth it.
  21. it's pretty standard for surgeons to prescribe PPI's for awhile after surgery. I had them for a year - but three-six months seems more common now (probably because of the bad rap long-term PPI use has gotten the last few years). so you just now got a lapband? Or did you have one before and this was a revision surgery? I was just a little surprised because that very few surgeons place lapbands any more - it's been largely replaced by the sleeve (as the non-RNY option)
  22. Thought this was gonna be easy for some reason , but nope 👎. 2 days in and acid reflux, chest pain, shortness of breath that by the 4th day I’m at the ER crying 😢. Well in pain anyway. ECG, aspirin, Tylenol and Mylanta given. Heart if fine - no heart attack for me which I knew. Doc just had lamb done and wicked acid reflux. Doc sends me for chest X-ray. As l stand to take chest x-rays I start to heave like I’m gonna hurl at any moment, but instead of vomiting it’s gas - 3 big beltches before x-ray. Pain level decreases a few notches. X-ray show’s gas - a lot of gas in area, starts me on PPIs and sends me home. ER for a gas attack 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️. Anyway went to my doctor yesterday and medication to continue to treat acid reflux and week off of work to recover. Spoke to my surgeon today, told him everything and he was like ok - this weekend you can start soft diet. Dude I hardly been drinking any thing now 😂. So anyway the past 2 days have been better and can drink more without splashback so hopefully I can start soft foods next week. This is my story so far, hopefully the rest will be successfully boring 😁. I am sorry for typos and big spaces but it seems my screen is black so I can’t see the words I’m typing other than the emojis. All the best.
  23. Hi everyone, this is my first post on my new journey and hoping for lot’s of support from here. So just like I mentioned in the title I’ve been having issues with acid reflux and trapped gas which is causing significant chest pain and shortness of breath that went to ER. Now on medication for acid reflux and taking week off work to recover properly. The last 2 days I have now been able to drink more so that is good. Spoke with my surgeon today x Telehealth and didn’t really seem to interested but I can move to soft foods on the weekend. Well that’s about it, hopefully it will get better from here. Any tips anyone wants to throw my way I’m all ear’s. If writing looks funny it’s because my screen is in dark mode and I’m writing blind as I can’t see the words on the screen 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😁. Oh but I can see the emojis- hahaha 🤣
  24. At the end of the day its your choice, i didnt tell anyone because i didnt want negativity to make me change my mind, when i got to the hospital i was scared and basically changed my mind. The nurses and surgeon treated it as pre op nerves. I wish i didnt do it. I am 5 months out still tired, feel unwell most days struggle with what to eat most days but i have lost weight although that has stalled already. I also find myself slipping back into my old habits....so for me I should have tried good old fashion diet because the habits that got me fat arent going to be stopped by the sleeve. Sorry i know you wanted positive encouragement but i think its important to know all possible outcomes. At the end of the day its your choice and you will be anxious about no matter what anyone says. I had no negativity before but i still freaked out. Sorry i am probably not helping i will delete my comment if you want.
  25. 100% agree with @Jaelzion. I had tried many diets & eating programs & lost hundreds of kgs. I’ve run, walked, swam, biked 1000s of km. The 60-75kg weight fluctuation I’d struggled & fought to maintain for decades suddenly became 91kgs & I could not shift a single kg. I could see what was ahead of me & it wasn’t good physiologically or psychologically. The 31kg (67lbs) I needed to lose was a lot on my short & smaller framed body & more of a challenging given I was 54 & menopausal. That I lost 42kg (92lbs) has been a blessing & I’m thankful every day. And yes it was worth the $10 000 out of pocket cost (Australian health insurance is pretty crappy.) But I can understand your feelings this close post surgery. It’s all very scary & many question their decision the first couple of weeks. Hopefully, as the weeks pass you’ll feel more positive & confident about your surgery & what you’ll achieve. All the best.
