Full liquids for 2 weeks - help!
zackly replied to Need4Change's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 9 days post-op and on a full liquid diet for another 5 days. I drink three protein shakes a day and am allowed two light yogurts, totaling about 800 calories. This is the same regimen I followed for two weeks pre-op. That was tough because I was starving most of the time. Since the surgery I'm quite full on the same 800 calories. It's boring for sure but it's only two weeks. -

Again, doctors may differ but my main rule is no white sugar no white flour (per my doc and nut). Seeds and nuts are fine in small amounts. Should avoid breads (though sometimes Ezekiel bread is ok). Reduced fat cheese is ok in small amounts. Can you have a small piece of birthday cake or ice cream? Well, the true answer is no you shouldn't. But will you and have others? Probably. But it is best to not have any. Once you do, it almost seems that you give yourself permission to do it again and the amounts get larger and pretty soon, you are back to old habits. I'm not saying don't, I'm saying you shouldn't. But I'm also putting my own inability to control myself onto you! lol. Sorry. Things you can have: chicken Turkey seafood edamame eggs yogurt (especially fat free greek yogurt. The new recommendation is Oikos Triple Zero in black container) Fat free cottage cheese veggies (once your body accepts them anyway) fruit (no more than 2 small servings / day once your body is ready to have them) seeds and nuts lean beef and pork though chicken and turkey are better chili tofu lot's of Water Things to avoid: I can't remember the whole list but I think it's... carbonated beverages anything deep fried or fried Chinese food white sugar white flour rice Pasta pizza (though I do have some but only eat the toppings. I am going to try the cauliflour crust pizza soon) Cookies crackers candy cakes donuts muffins you get the picture! Note that neither list is complete, just the things I thought of off the top of my head. It's hard and I'm doing horribly lately and have been eating from the bad list. Don't do this! Don't even start doing this!! It really sends you down a bad rabbit hole. I highly recommend going to eggfaces blog to get ideas of what to eat. If you search on "the world according to eggface" you should find her pretty easily! Best of luck. -

Definitely you need to talk to your doctor/nutritionist. To give you an example list, here's the stuff I was told was allowed for the Full Liquids diet (after returning from the hospital): Clear Liquids 3-4 cups daily (Water, Crystal Light, fat-free chicken/beef/vegetable broth, propel zero, Powerade zero, sugar-free Jello, sugar-free popsicles) Full Liquids 3-4 cups daily or more (Protein shakes, nonfat/1% milk, low-fat or fat-free Lactade milk, soy milk, almond milk, plain nonfat yogurt, plain nonfat greek yogurt) You can flavor yogurt with crystal light or sugar-free jello powder. Add Protein Powder to above liquids to boost protein levels. Protein drinks should be <200cal, >15g protein, <5g sugar, <5g total fat. As I said, this is just a temporary list to tide you over until you speak with your doctor/nutritionist. I can't stress enough that they should be the ones to tell you exactly what you should be eating. -
I tend to have 1 poached egg with 1/2 oz of cheese (usually habanero cheddar) and 1.5oz of fruit (usually watermelon). Sometimes instead of the cheese and fruit, I will eat 2 oz of Fage Plain Yogurt with and 1/8 cup Special K Protein Cereal for crunch - it's really yummy! I also do shakes when my Breakfast needs to be quick. I have had Carbquick pancakes twice and those are pretty good. I also sometimes will eat organic chicken breakfast sausage with my eggs, the Applegate Farms company is my favorite brand. Oh yea, I also will make "cannoli cream" and eat that instead of yogurt sometimes. You just take some skin ricotta, a tbsp of milk, drop of vanilla stevia, and a drop of pure almond extract and mix together. It tastes just like cannoli cream. You can add a strawberry to it or even some a couple sugar free chocolate chips. It's one of my favorites! Anyway, do you have a list of acceptable foods from you doctors office? I was just ending soft foods at a month out. I hope you have gotten some yummy breakfast ideas!

When I student taught 16 years ago, I was quite the health nut and very thin. I'm assuming that you bring your own lunch instead of eating cafeteria food? Are you eating at the teacher's table or with the students? I always brought my own lunch and ate the same thing everyday: an orange, yogurt, and a small sandwich. The other teachers may have made a few comments about my eating the first week of school, but it soon just became "how I ate" and old news.

Feel like eating too much?
Beachsprite replied to wagyu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are still on liquids soup yogurt etc are all liquids. Sounds like your stomach just empties faster rather than stretching it or it's too big. Eat 3 times a day slowly stop at 20 minutes or less if u have already finished your amount of food recommend by your nut. You should feel more restriction when on more solid food. -
I make a smoothie with Greek yogurt, almond milk, 1/2 a banana and 1/2 cup on blueberries. Next I'm going to substitute pumpkin for the blueberries.

I second Babb's suggestion of the straw. I spend a minimum of 2 hours per day in the car. I drink 20 oz on my way to work for my hour commute and 20 oz on my way home. I have a double walled 24 oz cup. I prefer my Water with ice. I use Mio or I water down diet Chik Fil A lemonade. I have a double walled 32 oz cup at my desk. I fill that in the morning and sip on it all day. There is no way I could get in my 64 oz water without Mio and without a straw. For food: We have a cafeteria at work. Get up at 5:30am 6 am Leave for work- 1 hour commute- drink 20 oz of water. Refill when I get to work and drink another 6-8 oz before breakfast. At 8:15 I get 1 egg with spinach and tomatoes and a little cheddar. I also get a sausage link. Fill 32 oz water. At about 10:30 I eat another small meal- a slice of cheese & some deli turkey/ham, I eat lunch at 1. Normally chicken, tomato, lettuce, kalamata olives. Or a little chicken salad. Or part of a Boston Market chicken caesar no croutons. or some Soup. At 3:30 I will have nuts or yogurt or low fat cottage cheese. If I don't plan well I stop at Chik Fil A on the way home and get a kids meal with grilled nuggets. You can get no sugar added cinnamon apple sauce or fresh fruit instead of fries. I leave work at 4:15 so maybe at 4:30 I stop at the CFA dinner tends to be late: 8:30 or 9 pm. Grilled chicken or fish, veggies, steal a bite of DH's carb side dish (rice, mac & cheese, potato). Literally one bite so I don't feel deprived. If DH wants burgers I will have one on a wheat Arnold's sandwich thin. I eat it as an open faced burger so wind up only eating half of half since I only eat about 1/2 a burger. The dogs love my left overs. Meatballs and sauce with no Pasta. I do get Dreamfields low carb pasta for DH so I don't feel guilty if I do steal a bite or two of his pasta (I allow myself and extra bite of the low carb pasta). I hate Barilla pasta. I am weird and don't like leftovers. If you don't mind leftover you can do what my friend does. She banded 6 years ago. She cooks a big batch of drumsticks and thighs on Sunday night with a dry rub. (Chicken breast get suck for her). She then brings in chicken and a small salad or broccoli for lunch most days. When her kids were living at home and she was married she would just make sure she cooked a little extra for dinner and bring in the meat and veggies the next day. She cooks her eggs the night before - 1 egg plus some egg whites and heats it in the microwave at work. I find when I slipped back to only 3 meals a day my weight loss slowed. Weekends are tougher since I trail ride for 3 hours at a time. I drink Protein shakes in the AM to make sure I get my protein. Also since I am not used to eating solid food for a good 3 hours after I get up during the week I find that I just can't eat solid food within a couple of hours of waking. I normally get up, shower, get dressed drink Protein shake and am out the door about 1.5 hours after I get up. I bring a soft cooler with me with Protein Bars, water, deli meat and nuts. I drink when I am grooming the horse and when riding. Once the horse are loaded back on the trailer I will snack on one of the protein things I brought with me. If I take a long time at the barn afterwards I may eat another protein thing. Weekends are the toughest for me to get in protein and enough water. Since I am outdoors and sweating I need a lot more than 64 oz on the weekends. I somehow don't like to eat while I ride so I try to fit in in right before I mount or on the trailer ride home. I need things that are portable.

Hi everyone, I have been super busy. All the weight loss has done wonders for my spirit and I started a business. Have wanted to my whole life. I finally had the courage to do it. As the fat girl I just didn't think I had the mental fortitude to face the possibility of failure. Besides, I always felt like no one would give me the time of day, remember the invisible days. So happy to hear about ammylyns going back to college. It's never too late to dream and wish. Everyone who posted photos looks smoking. Wish I could answer all your posts individually but I have to dash. Weight stable. Not an ounce dropped in 5 weeks. Not worried. I am fine with 165. I too eat blueberries like crazy. My favorite treat is blueberries and greek yogurt. There are so many new options with 7 to 15 gr of Protein per serving. Compare that to 7 gr for an egg. eating has become very normal for me and I don't find it difficult at all. Occasional I get that feeling that I am eating to fast or you better not have another bite but I have not been sick in forever. But I am careful. Love you all !

There is protein in tubes as well. As others have said it is doable but far from enjoyable. Some of the protein waters are quite nice, Vitamin World and GNC both have them. Liquid yogurt was nice after surgery as well a protein shakes.Good luck.

At a month out, I think I was still on purees. I remember eating Greek yogurt and a LOT of cottage cheese. I had cottage cheese mixed with touches of hot sauce, tomato sauce, etc. I also ate canned chicken or tuna (mashed really fine or even blended early on) mixed with fat-free mayo and maybe some chicken broth to thin it. I am also one of those that ate baby food early on in purees. I wasn't allowed eggs until solids and at that point I ate a lot of eggs. Only recently (I'm almost a year out), have I done something other than eggs or a Protein bar for Breakfast since I was allowed solids.

@@Amylou My nut just recently recommended Quark! It's not bad. He also recommended the Oikos Triple Zero yogurt these days. I don't know when that came out but it seems fairly new. Those are pretty good, too. They are in a black container. I like the Isopure drinks but they are an acquired taste. Once you like them, you like them but the first time you drink them they don't seem good at all. Doesn't take long to like them though!

Greek yogurt? I've been eating about 1/2 cup of egg whites with about 1/2 ounce of shredded cheese.

My LSD ???? is two weeks. Breakfast and lunch are a protein shake or bar (or two Greek yogurts), dinner is 3 oz light protein, small carb (6 crackers, 2 low cal slices of bread or 2 oz potato) and salad with one tablespoon light dressing. Also have two small pieces of fruit as snacks and can have all the green veggies we want. Of course the day before is all liquid. So mine isn't too bad. The hardest thing for me has been giving up carbonated drinks.
-
At that point I was allowed oatmeal, grits, yogurt and cream of wheat. Oatmeal never went over too well but the rest were great!

Hey everyone, I'm 3weeks post op and I'm finding it hard.. I feel like I'm not eating enough. I only eat two yogurts per day. I ate a sausage roll and now my family think I've stretch my stomach and now I'm way to scared to eat now. I don't get any aftercare.. Gemma

Hello everyone . So I had my surgery on August 18th. Everything went ok and now I am in the purée stage . My question is has anyone ever experience not feeling full with the recommended ounces in the purée stage . For example, I am only suppose to eat 4 ounces of yogurt and I feel like I can def eat more then that . Of course I do not eat more because I do not want to jeopardize this journey . I am now allowed to eat eg whites which I did for the first time yesterday . My dietician told me that I can have two egg whites . Had them yesterday and didn't feel full at all. After reading some post in this site it seems like people are getting full quickly and I feel like I don't. I have been keeping up with my protein and I have also been keeping up with my water intake so what gives ??? Yesterday was pretty rough for me, I was up late watching movies and I started to get hungry . Usually I would grab a bag of chips or some sort of other snack before the surgery and yesterday for the first time I couldn't so that was a little hard. Any thoughts ???

I cannot express how happy I am today. We went on a 7 day cruise to Alaska and I did not even gain one lb. First time in my life that I did not pack on at least 10 lbs while on vacation. A Cruise ship as you know has tons of food everywhere, but my band kept me in check. I ate a good bit of fish and some veggies. Did not do the Pasta or pizza . I did eat some frozen yogurt and one night I had lobster ravioli which was really light and delicious but couldn't eat the whole portion. I even drank some wine with dinner. One of the best things was riding horses in Skagway and watching whales in Juneau. I walked all over the ship everyday I explored . My niece and her husband joined us on the trip from Vegas, they are both younger than I am but both are out of shape. They said I was like the eveready bunny and they couldn't keep up. I cannot tell you how different I am today than 3 years ago. I am living the life I want and feel like a million bucks. I am so thankful for my lapband . horseback riding in Skagway was great.

How do I know I'm full?
OutsideMatchInside replied to theatrejo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is a lot of sugar between the apple juice, the carnation instant breakfast and the yogurt. Why not have all Protein Shake? The rest of that is basically devoid of protein and full or carbs/sugar. -
Yes don't worry so much about calories. Focus on Protein. I just recently found something called Quark. It's by the yogurt in my grocery store but it's actually a cheese. It's very similar to Greek yogurt - similar texture and taste but not quite so sour. Best part? Quark is 80 calories and 14g of protein. So, a Quark, a Premier Protein shake and some cottage cheese and I'm golden for daily protein.

This morning I've had 1 oz Protein shake, 2 oz apple juice, 1 oz carnation instant Breakfast, and 1/2 Whipped Yogurt (Yoplait). Now I am starting on Water to get some of this "sweet" out of my mouth. Ug. I'm not focussing on food, just hydrating. Its just hard to hydrate and meet my goals. Im at work already so sometimes I get caught up and forget to drink. I set a timer on my phone. Lets see if that helps.
