    Tons of questions! Nervous!

I am also very neverous; but the more I read on here I am slowly starting to be ok. I have my pre-op on 3 April. Then I will find my surgery date. I actually had to go on the liquid diet already because I am not losing the weight he wants me to before the surgery. My doctor informed me that being young; I'm 29; is actually before for loose skin! If you ever want to chat just pm me!

Not like some of these other people who do not need to be wearing them lol I just really wana loose this weight and keep it off!!!!!! And will the scars go away?!?!?! 4. I had a VSG on 7/29/13 and was 310 lbs pre-op. It's now the six month mark and I've lost 135 lbs and feel comfortable at 175 lbs. My goal weight was 190, but I've now passed that by 15 lbs. I was curious to learn how some of you transitioned from being focused on the weight-loss to maintaining your goal weight (?).... How many calories are you consuming at the 6 month mark? What's your regular exercise routine? Do you still try to avoid carbs whenever possible? Any feedback would be appreciated!
  5. OK, I will admit it. I am a electronics junkie and I love to have all the new toys! But - have any of you seen or possibly have the Withing WiFi scale? If so tell me how you like it. This scale is very cool - it takes your weight, BMI, fat content and other things and sends them to you computer where it creates graphs for you so you can see your progress without having to hand enter everything. It will even twitter your weight loss for you if you want! It hooks right into your existing WiFi system at home. A little pricey at 159 but still really cool. You can see it at Withings - The WiFi Scale (weight, BMI, fat mass & lean mass) - Home[/url]

    Lower Back Pain

I am about 4 months out and started having back pain. Nothing like I've experienced before. I was telling my brother who also went through weight loss surgery about 10 years ago. He's always had back problems but they became a lot worse after surgery. He was told by his back doctor that it was caused by the muscle loss in his back due to the surgery. This may be the same reason you all are experiencing this. I've been working out and trying to build my muscles back.
  7. I am in the pre phase, but trying to improve habits, and heck maybe even lose some weight! I have been tracking my food and notice that I do pretty good during the day - high Protein, wholesome foods, lots of fruits and veggies. After dinner, I seem to go to heck. I try not having junk in the house, but I seem to be constantly wanting to eat. If we don't have dessert, I will have a bowl of Cereal. It is just a very strong desire to eat starting about 2 hours after dinner. About 5 years ago I lost 85 pounds on WEight Watchers and I had to break myself of the habit of eating in the middle of the night. Seriously, I would wake up in the middle of the night really hungry and not be able to get back to sleep. I had to really force myself to just STOP and that habit has not returned. (I believe now that i was waking due to undiagnosed sleep apnea). So, i would love to hear some tricks and tips from people who have successfully beaten the "eating after dinner" challenge.
  8. Hi all ~ Just trying to find out if this is a reaction to the liquid diet or maybe a medication reaction. The 1st 3 days of the liquid diet have been a relative breeze, just through dogged determination. Today, however, I have been experiencing annoying diarrhea. Not sure if it is switching over my pain medication to a patch (less to swallow later) & a side effect of that or my body adjusting to liquid diet or both. Anyone else have this experience? Also wondering if this will pass? The pain med is one that I hope loss of weight will help me be able to stop! Less weight, less back / neck pain, less pain med needed is one ultimate goal!
  9. joyful noise

    Novice Question.

I was in an auto accident in '03; and still have problems with my shoulders and neck. My back - well excess weight doesn't help. I have been walking for 20 minutes a day; Richard Simmons for about 10 mins til I want to die; watched Jane Fonda (Yeah, just watched - watching makes me tired). I have been trying one pound weights and, frankly, it hurts. But I am not going to give up. I may never be as active as I was pre-accident, but I sure am going to give it a try.
  10. So, I had a surgery date scheduled with Dr. Alvarez in Mexico (self-pay) but it looks like my grandparents changed their minds!! :'( sooo... my mom is putting me on her Work (IRS) health insurance..she's trying to go with BCBS of Texas..i'm not sure which policy yet. But I was wondering if its hard to get approved by BCBS of texas? I have a BMI of 41.2 I have no health problems other than being over weight... And I have been overweight for more than 10 years... And also would there be any chance of me having to do that dreadful 6 month weightloss program req??? Thanks a bunch ya'll!! -Priscilla

Losing more than just my weight...

I posted a related thread just the other night. Mine is about losing friends. (I am not married) It is so sad that people have problems when we change. I was never a mouse, but am way more assertive now. I think my best friend does not like it. She has sort of been 'the boss' in our friendship, and now does not like it that I stand up to her more. She struggles with her weight but tells me all the time she would never do the band. She can do it alone and HAS with WW/shakes/pills (the whole route). She sees the band as cheating and the easy way out. In the past I would not have said much, but now i say that if it so easy, why not do it? or I know you can lose the weight, I could too, but it is always back. She does not like that. I can not offer wisdom on the marriage issue other than you know your husband best and if you think you can resolve some issues or not. Good Luck.
  12. So I am bit down. Let go back from the begining: Jan of 2010 I was at my highest ever, 271! From Jan to August I lost 40 pounds. In August I had my first consult for the surgery. On Nov 23rd I was at 220 with my 2 week pre op diet. Now here I am Feb 14th, I know not even 3 months and I have lost an additional 29 pounds and I frustrated as I have pretty much stalled since Jan 18th. I went up 4 pounds after starting the pill which I quit 2 weeks later and now yesterday I finally got down to 191 again where I was when I started the dang pill. So I am sitting here trying to rationalize with myself that 29 pounds in under 3 months is huge, yet there is this nagging feeling that it should be more faster! I am in a daily guilt fight with what I put in mouth even though I have not ate any bad foods since the surgery. I don't do breads and I watch carbs like crazy. I try to keep them under 30 a day. I guess I am wearing myself out emotionally with the fight to lose in what I perceive is not enough fast enough. I get down when I see folks losing 40 or 50 pounds in 2 months and think what am I doing wrong? I know when I look in mirror the person looking back is not bad at all compared to what I used to see, but when I look at my belly and legs I see the fat left to loose and feel like yuck. I have avoided buying any clothes as I keep thinking it will be a waste because I should loose more weight soon, but deep down I am not trusting that is going to happen any time soon because of the stall. (See the head game????) Just for example a typical day of food is like this for me: 1 160 cal, 30 gram Protein shake Greek yogurt with torani syrup or one with the fruit already. 2 or 3 oz of chicken or one of those tuna cans with crackers some days a afternoon snack of a 160 cal, 15 protein power bar more chicken for dinner.

Losing more than just my weight...

I just got my surgery and I don't forsee this happening to me partly because my husband and I split before my weight gain and my friends have seen me all kinds of sizes so now when I lose weight they will probably make bets on how long it will last. However, what is happening to you has happened to many people I have met in support groups. I believe it all comes from insecurities of both your friend and your husband. However, this time is all about you now. Do what is good for you, love yourself and don't play into their games and insecurities. I recommend you attend support groups and also if possible seek professional help, i.e. family therapist, psychologist... it helps
  14. The following comment is based solely on my own personal experience with the sleeve. I feel for you. But my concern is that at your current weight I don't see how you wouldn't wind up with the sleeve post-op becoming terribly underweight. I'm 13 months post-op and have lost 95 pounds and am now below my goal and trying to stay here without losing more weight. The sleeve really, really limits how much you can eat at one time. And when you're "done," you can't just put on the weight loss skids when you want to. It has taken me 5 months since reaching my weight loss to get to the point where I can regularly eat 1600 - 1700 calories a day, which is my maintenance calorie budget. And getting here took significant planning and snacking (not grazing!). In the meantime, I've lost another 10 pounds -- which, as it turns out, I like sitting at. And then there's this: If you're one of the unlucky ones who has a WLS complication of some kind you won't have a big overweight buffer to tide you over while your body recovers from the complication. These are the obvious reasons that surgeons don't do RnY or sleeve or other permanent WLS on patients who aren't already very overweight or obese.
  15. Its been 4 months since surgery today, I have lost exactly 40lbs today and I am loving my band. I have not had so much energy in about 8yrs and I can actually make it up a flight of stairs without being out of breathe.. this was the best decision I have made!!!! I have about 25-30lbs to go and there is no doubt that I can make it!!!!! I had a tough few weeks where I lost nothing at all and actually gained but I cut some calories and up'd the workout at the gym and now back on track!!!!!! I actually lost 7 of those lbs just since last friday and am so happy about that!!!

    Band to.....

I revised to the sleeve. Before I had the band in 2008, I had horrible reflux!! During band surgery , the surgeon told me I had a hiatal hernia which he repaired and reflux was gone. In my 5th year with the band I started getting a throbbing in my chest - after X-rays etc. I had reflux again so he removed some of my saline and I felt fine again but was already gaining my weight back. I was sleeved 2/4 - he repaired another hiatal hernia during surgery but this time I was getting reflux after the surgery. I bought an over the counter antacid, took it every night before bedtime and I was fine. Only did it for the first month. Now I only need it occasionally.

    Very Hungry

Wow-- it doesn't look like you're getting much protein at all. Are you sure you're not missing something? I thought at this stage you don't even worry about losing weight. It's all about healing.... I get banded in January and I don't think I'd survive on what you're having. Hang in there and stay away from the rice!

    Weight Loss Blinkies!

Our firewall was down this morning and what's a girl to do without internet? Why, make blinkies of course! Here are a few general ones, I'll make more in the 100-200 range and 200+ next time I'm bored. (wow this thread is obnxoxious!)
  19. Day 10 of my 14 day pre-op diet. Seems like extreme measures to get healthier but like most others it seems to be the best chance at sustained success. 5'9 and my max weight was 296 a few years ago. I was originally referred for surgery at 278 and crawled up to 296. Slowly leveled back down and was 274 before pre-op diet. Today I'm 260. My diet is the Slimtime shakes and protein bars. 3 shakes and 2 bars per day. 1070 calories I believe. My dream weight is 190 although breaking 200 and maintaining will be life altering. I have two young sons that I had late in life (I'm 45) and need to ensure I'm around as long as possible. Not just around but living a great quality of life. I was always very active and played competitive sports right into my mid 30's but when off to university the freshmen 10 hit and I slowly crept up over time. Every time I lost weight though a few years later I regained plus more. The last time I made a real concerted effort was to go from 276 down to 245. 3 years later I was 296. My reason for choosing surgery is the fear of breaking 300 if I were to try it the old fashioned way. So here I am. Very nervous but excited at the same time. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences as it's helped me prepare mentally for the process.
  20. Hi everyone, I've had a tough last few weeks and I haven't come to the forums because I kind of feel like I'm the only one going through this 2 months post op. I had my one month follow up on December 5th everything was great and the PA told me that I may start to feel hungrier soon and that was normal since I haven't had a fill yet. My Doctor does not do a fill until 2 months post op. The rest of December was bad. I have lost and gained the same 3 pounds. I'm so frustrated. I have my first fill (FINALLY) tomorrow morning. I'm afraid their going to give me a hard time about not really losing any weight this month. The dietitian told me in December that if I come in without gaining any weight then I've been successful but frankly ,I don't feel it. I HATE being hungry and just about the whole month of December,I have felt like I've had no restriction. I feel like a failure ,even though technically I've only gained a pound or so ,STILL. I really need some support ,I hope I don't get in tomorrow and get a lecture.
  21. I 100% had this same feeling. Unlike a lot of people who have had this surgery, I didn't hate myself and I never thought I was "gross" or "ugly". Once I started the process of WLS though, I definitely went through a long phase of feeling hideous and not wanting to go out or see anyone because they would see how fat I am. Of course, I looked the same as I always did, but I think once I realized that being as overweight as I was/am was not an option to live a healthy life and my blinders had been removed, I could no longer pretend or ignore that I had to get healthy and I had to do something about it. The further away from surgery I get, the more I exercise and eat healthy, the better I feel about myself. Losing weight is a bonus. The feeling will pass but yes, I totally understand what you're feeling.
  22. I live on a military base and when I look around I notice EVERYONE'S weight. Not just my own. I put people into categories now, and I didn't do that before my surgery. Needless to say, I'm bigger than lots of these girls walking around here - and I've lost 45 pounds. I'm embarrassed to walk around outside or go to the grocery store. Before surgery, these things didn't bother me. I think I just never really realized how big I was. I look in the mirror now and I honestly don't notice my weight loss at all. If I compare pics I can tell, but that's about it. So, unfortunately, my body image hasn't improved. I wonder if I'll always feel like this, or I'll get used to being smaller eventually.

    In need of a hug️

I feel your pain! Signed up and this is my first post! Had lapband 2007 and did awesome losing 130lbs. Gall bladder attack and removed Oct 2015 and now gained 30 lbs! Have had 3 fills and in fills due to throwing up. My Dr doesn't seem to get me right on track. Been working out but now my foot is injured! I feel so doomed! I'm fat again! I just want to give up n eat 5 gallons of ice cream! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  24. Excellent post. I also felt much disappointment that I was GAINING weight after surgery. I also saw all of these tickers that showed a lot of weight loss in the first couple of months after surgery. I felt like I was some kind of failure. However, I only achieved restriction at my last fill which was 1 1/2 weeks ago. Now, the weight is starting to fall off again. So, don't get discouraged if you start out slowly....you may be one of those that takes awhile to get the appropriate amount of fill in your band before you start losing.
  25. I wouldn't give all of them away! My doctor/ nutritionist/ exercise psychologist/ psychologist/ program coordinator told me to keep 1-2 pair of my favorite outfits to try on as I lose the weight to see how much I change. Also it is always good to have a few outfits in as many sizes as you can just in case you have company over... they may need a set of clothes to change into for various reasons.
