    Want to know everything

First of all, just a general disclaimer: everyone is different, so while this is my experience, yours may be different. Good luck on your 2 week liquid diet. The first 2-3 days will be your hardest. By day 4, I wasn't hungry or anything anymore. It'll suck, but you'll get through it and have lost some weight. I, personally, lost 12 pounds during my 1 week liquid diet pre-op. I didn't pack anything for the hospital since I planned on going home, and we live close enough for my husband to pick up anything I may need if I had to stay over night. My husband brought his laptop since he stayed with me the whole time. I reported to the hospital at 5 in the morning and was in the OR by 7. I was in the prep room for about an hour. I woke up at about noon feeling no pain only nausea. Nausea and gas were the only "pains" I ever had from surgery, and the nausea was actually from the anesthesia and the pain meds that I was given afterwards. I lost pretty steadily for the first 3 weeks, though the loss didn't start until about day 2. I attributed that to the gas they pumped into my stomach. The pain that I felt in the recovery week was gas pains. I expected the pain in my chest, but what I didn't expect was the gas pain in my shoulder. Gas-X helped for the chest pain since it made me burp, but nothing I could take helped with the shoulder pain. What I ended up doing was putting a heat pack on my shoulder to help a bit. Another thing I didn't know until the class before my surgery was that my surgeon required an additional 3 weeks of liquids after surgery. I just about went crazy by the end of the 2nd week since I had already had 1 week of pre-op liquids under my belt. I was extra careful when showering because my staples were super annoying. Once my incisions started to heal, they itched like crazy! My surgeon's office told me to put some benadryl anti itch cream on it. Well, it worked...until I had an allergic reaction. But, it worked! I hated how itchy the incisions were. So what I wish people told me before surgery: * Wait until anesthesia wears off before taking pain meds because apparently, I don't do well with pain meds and just get nauseous. * Prepare for a month of liquids. Protein shakes, Soups in between, sugar free Jello, etc. FOR A MONTH * It's possible to get gas pains in the shoulder, and it's annoying. It's like a dull ache that you can't massage out. * Healing skin itches A LOT. I actually couldn't sleep some nights because it itched so much!

    More calories.....

Pick a healthy food item that is higher in calories, like avocado. Do you like avocados? That'll push your calories up a bit and help break the stall. can you eat nuts? Macadamia nuts are highest. Peanut butter. Even dark chocolate. 1 piece at a time though.
  3. so for about 20 weeks out i am doing ok. I guess i just needed confirmation that i am not screwing this up.

    The frustration of it all

Hi calicojack42 I can understand your frustration. Trust us.. this phase will pass. to lose the maximum amount of weight you must follow the food phases. You'll want to use this time to learn to control your food urges. Food is out there and all around us. I'm not sure if your in the situation, but most are having this surgery because we have possibly lost our abilty or have a very difficult time with control over our food urges. Check the site for food choices during your stage. look for variety. I'll be honest at 6 weeks out you can't eat like normal and you'll want some things you just can't have. Your life for a little while will be protein with protein drinks. Eggs can be made in a few different ways, I loved egg drop soup. I purchased protein soup.. all things to get in my protein. You'll really want to use this time as designed, you can 't get this time back and this and the next few months are your opportune times to lose the maximum amount of weight. Hang in there..

    More calories.....

p.s. I'm two years out and have lost 236 lbs (*all* my weight). I didn't increase calories to break stalls. I just kept doing what I was supposed to do. They always always broke. Just stick to your plan.

    More calories.....

I am 2 1/2 months post RNY and am having a hard time getting more than 600 calories...i get about 65-70 grams of protein but i think i need more calories to break a stall...nothing lost in over a week...how do i get more calories/protein? Help..feeling discouraged.
  7. I just wanted to give everyone a little encouragement that are having issues. Three weeks ago I was sick everyday an felt like I would never eat normal again. I regreted my decision everyday to have this surgery. I cried at the doctors office and generally felt horrible everyday. I got tired of hearing it will get better just hang in there. Well I have come out the other side and feel great. I am now getting protein in by whole foods and I have been able to eat almost everything I wanted to. So in conclusion stay strong and remember the reason you had the surgery. It will get better and although you can not see it now you will be happy you did this. Yesterday I put on a pair of pants that were always too tight to be comfortable and they were almost too big for me!!!
  8. Try to ignore fluctuations I woke up this morning down 6lbs from yesterday after a good nights sleep. I was very annoyed yesterday seeing the scale had not moved since surgery and nearly made a post here asking what other first week experiences were. I’m getting 500 a day and I am still on clear liquid with 330 of that from the protein.
  9. Congrats on putting the surgery behind you You should start seeing weight loss this week. Good luck to you!
  10. Hi Renee~ I just had my Lap Band surgery last week with Tricare (Marine Corps). Tricare does not require a 6 month pre-op diet. If you have any questions fill free to ask me. The whole process was very easy for me. Tricare approved everything (all my pre-op requirements, surgery, etc.) very quickly. It took me just under 4 months from start to finish (Getting my referral from PCM to surgery), but that's because me Lap Band doctor is very thorough. I personally did not have to do a sleep apnea test, but my doctor decides on a case to case basis (usually he makes people get them, so I was shocked when I didn't have to).

    I am a Newbie

My surgeon has me one an almost all Protein diet from Physician's Weight Loss. Only about 450 calories. He wanted me to do it for 2 weeks, but 3 weeks if I could. I will have been on it 3 weeks by the date of my surgery. On Monday this week (my 14th day on the diet) he told me that I could eat lean Proteins as long as I did not overdue on calories. I love sushi grade tuna - very rare or raw, so I have had tuna 3 times (4 oz is the same as 2 of 5 daily drinks) and tonight I just had 3 egg whites scrambled. It was true emotional journey the first week of my liquid diet. I went to birthday party on the 5th day and thought I might tackle someone as they walked by with their hamburger and piece of birthday cake. I have had great support from my firends and co-workers. They have a planned, non-food activity almost everynight with one of them, and on Friday we are having a food free "hello to the new me" party - complete with pajamas, great movies and games. Over half of my 10 co-workers also went to all liquid diet (not alcohol - slimfast and such:p ) during work hours, so that has been great as well I have lost 22 pounds in 2.5 weeks. One of my biggest vices has been Dr. Pepper, so I have given up all caffeine and artifical sweetners to try to completely get past my addiction to caffeine including diet drinks. I hope this help, and I know I probably told you way more than you wanted to know. Good luck and best wishes, Mouster:D

Weight is not going down fast enough

I thought becuase I was only eating about 300-500 calories each day that I would certainly have some significant pounds dropped post-op. Unfortunately, I have only lost about 2 pounds since last Thursday (surgery date). Total weight loss is roughly 15 pounds. It's going up and down daily so I thought I would lay off the scale for a couple days and try to only weight once a week. I am just SO anxious to start seeing some significant changes!

    Emotions going CRAZY!!

I went through the same emotions. About a week before my surgery, I started having dreams about my grand-parents that had passed away years ago. This is a huge decision; a life changing decision. Subconsciencly, we're all faced with our own mortality when having surgery. I'm sure that's what the dreams were about. Stay calm, and think of all of the right reasons you are doing this. The hardest part of the whole process, is the path you took to actually make the decision! You can do it!
  15. Merry Christmas to me. I've scheduled the lipo for my flanks and back (1 day shy of 2 yr anniversary of TT wMR), this WILL be my last cosmetic procedure as I plan to leave the girls alone - don't have it in me for breast lift and augmentation. Knowing what has bothered me most since my TT w/MR has been my flanks and back as this area seems disproportionate to my flat front I know that this will be the final step to my journey. As I write this I'm wondering if indeed this will be IT in regards to cosmetic procedures. I know for a fact that I'll never do anything cosmetic above my shoulders and I won't get my arms done - I say this because I scar so badly that it wouldn't be worth the risk. I will take a few before/after pics (6-8 weeks after the lipo), which I'll post to give a frame of reference to anyone considering this procedure. I'll keep you guys updated on how the healing process is going once complete. Wishing you all continued lapband success.

    Food

Let me know if they are good ! How many weeks are you post op Sent from my iPhone
  17. My date is a few weeks out. I originally had the Lap Band back in 2005 and went from 297lbs at surgery down to the 160's. My husband and I had been married for 4 years at that time and we had our first child who had just turned 10 months old. About 6 months after I had my band put in my husband had his put in. He lost 20 pounds to this day. At this time we are both banded. I'm consistantly in the 220's and he is over 350lbs. He has promised me if I am successful and happy with this surgery he will follow me again and have the sleeve done. We didn't have any problems with me being "successful" with the band and especially with him not being successful. We have since had another baby, so we have two kids under the age of 5 and intead of weight loss, we are much more concerned about the health we have and our ability to provide our babies with a happy and active childhood. He loved me fat, he loved me thin, he loves me fat again. I think if your connection is more than just physical and at a deep enough level then it will last. I'm not a person who goes out, I have my babies at home and I have the rest of my life to go "out" but my babies won't be babies forever. That's just my experience with the weight loss and our relationship. I wish you guys the best.
  18. Sounds like you are off to a really good start. Great advice from BLERDgirl and InnerSurferGirl. I'd listen to everything they have to say now and in the future as you move along through the stages. They are clearly successful and making awesome progress. Every bit of advice I've received from them has been spot on and helpful. Not much I can add other than a couple "don't do's" : Don't worry with "last meals" of your favorite foods. You'll see posts where folks get all wrapped up with having pizza, cake and whatever for the last time before surgery. All this does is lead to one garbage meal after another....days and weeks of continued poor eating. You are having sleeve surgery. You have to say goodbye to nothing. You can still eat the favorite treat foods later once you reach your goal weight. Stay the course with your low carb, high Protein plan and go ahead and start losing now. You'll thank yourself later. Losing weight is the goal....no matter if it's before or after surgery.....it's all about the losing. Don't let yourself get stress out about this thing. Keep with your plan you've established.....add/delete/modify as needed when your NUT gives you further guidance. Keep on working at it every day.....let it be natural and have fun adding flavors to your eats.......Mrs Dash has a dozen flavors now, hot sauces, Italian herbs and other non calorie flavors. Have fun and enjoy the variety. Don't get burned out on Protein shakes right now. Do find some that you like....at least 2-3 different ones and then put 'em up until your pre-op & immediate post-op diets come into play. You'll have some you enjoy that you can transition to. You are going to do great !!!!!

    DKA--diabetic fun for everyone

No. A week or so after surgery, it ran slightly high. Since then it has been FABULOUS. (Except for the times my pump malfunctions.)

    Liquid diet woes!

I only had to do 1 week of liquid and that was torture for me so I can understand your frustration. Try the Trop50 OJs & Juices and like jaymi suggested, add water to it. And the protein shake crazies...they don't go away!

  24. I have beenliving with my bachelor son for the last 3 months after a move from TX to CA. I am finally in my new house and have unpacked. I knew my weight loss wasnt going to set the world on fire but I was curious to see where I was finally. I am down 4 lbs! My diet has been very good except for chocolate and wine, and no exercise. I know what I need to do to improve. I really expected more, but I am happy that I didnt gain. At least I have a starting point to move forward from. We did a costco run and I bought tilapia, sliced chicken breast meat and a whole lot of ground turkey. Also a few bags of romaine/spinach mix. I question how much my having Soup or chili at the hospital cafateria at work has influcned this. My old hospital had many healthy choices. Here they are all high in carbs and fat and the vegetables are all dried out and gross. Thus my choices of soup and chilli. This week I will begin taking my lunch to work. Slow losers uniite! ADDED NOTE: I would like to start walking before work but have not yet found my blow drier? Anyone walk in the am with wet hair? While in TX I had an hour commute. Now it is 8 minutes. I still wake up at the same time and would like to make it productive time.
