No quite sure what you mean by challenged by cottage cheese. My typical day of eating is as followings. Breakfast at 3am is usually a container of greek yogurt and then I have a snack about 7 or 8 am which is a Protein shake. lunch is at 1. I would have a 1/2 cup of 1% cottage cheese. If I still feel I can eat more I will have maybe 1/4 to 1/2 cup green Beans and then a snack at 3pm is another Protein Shake or 2 oz. of cheese. At dinner !/2 cup to 3/4 cup of roasted chicken and some green beans. I HAVE NEVER EATEN TWO CUPS OF ANYTHING at one sitting. I don't believe I could even if I wanted to. This is my surgeon's and my nut's nutritional guidelines. You are sooooo early in the game I would be careful as to NOT to stress the staple line, Good luck!!!!! Deb P.S. I energy levels and labs are great.

Three weeks out and can eat four ounces easily..normal?
sweetsavannah replied to provenzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm currently on purees and I can tell a difference depending on what type of food it is. I was able to eat a 5oz container of yogurt this morning, but more than 2-3 ounces of refried beans is a much different story. Follow your doctor's advice and you'll be fine! I think it's normal to feel nervous about everything this early in the game (I'm the same way), but you will be fine! -
Yaaaaaaaaay, eggs, beans, potatos OH MY!
FishingNurse replied to newme31's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Personally I did not and do not eat low fat or low sugar/ sugar free anything post op. Everyone is different but it has worked for me. Fat is not a concern when you can only take in 400 calories a day so early on. When I can eat 5 bites of something I want it not to have added sugar because the fat has been removed, and I don't want the toxic fake sugar in sugar free stuff. I also think that you crave less when you have for example... full fat cheese instead of low fat. Its much more satisfying. I ate sugar free, fat free everything since I was 8 years old and I ended up 262lbs. I have maintained my weight loss goal +/- 5lbs for an entire year now NOT eating fat free and low fat stuff. This is just my opinion. Other ideas in the mushy phase: Greek Yogurt Egg Salad- Re-fried Beans with a little cheese and sour cream. Cream of wheat made with milk- amps up the Protein Baby Bel cheese-- if you let it get slightly warm it melts in your mouth. each has 6 grams of protein- I lived off of these for months! -
Are Protein Shakes Necessary?
2sleeve2gether replied to MariaH1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein Bars contain really crappy protein....very processed and not bioavailable as a good whey protein.....but why not eat real food....a cup of yogurt....a couple of eggs....some chicken....shrimp....crab....nuts....beans...etc.... most protein shakes still have sugar and other yucky ingredients in them..... -
how long with no food
HappyMom replied to Stacey627's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My post-op diet was a bit different: 3 days clear liquids (water, tea & broth) 4 days full liquids (protein shakes, juice, etc) 3 days REALLY mushy puree's (yogurt, pudding, watered mashed potatoes) 4 days normal mushies 7 days softer food (lasagna, tuna salad, etc) After 3 weeks post-op I can now have pretty much anything that I want except bread products, rice, dry meats, and some other harder to digest things. I agree with Jen, each doctor is very different in their post-op requirements. I have heard of some people having a full month of liquids. You will want to stick with whatever your doctor orders. Don't try to advance too soon! Good luck with your surgery! -

Greek yogurt and fat free cottage cheese are a staple for me. Chicken, seafood ,some cheese and high protein snacks. My daily food intake is public. I look at others daily food logs too so I get ideas for foods that are on plan! -
cant get nothing down
mrsbailey921 replied to lasufri's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes, if you are experiencing pain after solids I would say you aren't prepared for them. definitely go to your doctor because s/he knows best. the chart that I have in front of me for one of the hospitals my doctor participates in says : week 1 clear liquid only, week 2-3 OR 4 (depending on the patients needs) high Protein liquids and pureed foods (this is very well blended food--think stage 1 and 2 baby foods), weeks 5-6 OR 7 (again depending on the patients needs) soft solids diet (think tofu, yogurt, baby food, pureed Beans, tuna fish, mashed potatoes), weeks 8-9 or longer if necessary...slow advancement to regular foods diet. so I would think you may be in the category of a patient who's progress is a bit slower...so you may not be ready for solids yet. some patients need 8 weeks, and some even a little longer, to advance to solid foods. definitely talk to your doctor and I hope you begin to feel better soon! -

Gallbladder removed with RNY
AmyC65 replied to AmyC65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for asking. I'm much, MUCH better. I started eating one Activia yogurt a day, and it might just be a coincidence but that day was my last bout of diarrhea. I have been able to expand my diet considerably and I am much more comfortable. I have a lot of gas now, but from other RNY patients I hear that isn't unusual. Some occasional rumbling but the really bad results have gone. Making an effort to have something to eat every 3 hours seems to really have helped, also. I notice I start getting some cramps if I go much longer than that. -
I never had a problem from yogury but cannot eat anything like bacon without a dumping problem . I'm OK with yogurt in small portions
-
If it was frozen yogurt then it has TONS of sugar, even the "no sugar added" has at least 23 grams of sugar in a 4oz serving! Stay away from that sh*t or you will get the sh*ts as you discovered!

My first PB was on cheese, so it was a LONG time before I'd eat it again. If you can have yogurt & such, then go after some things (IMO) with some nutritional value, not cool whip. Cool hip is like eating airy plastic. Get some soups (Bear Creek makes very good ones), "cream of" soups with the chunks removed or blended. If you like hummus, just add tahini until it's a soupy consistency. If you're needing a change, try some refried Beans with your choice of sour cream/tobasco/red sauce/chili verde/ etc. mixed in, just watch out for the skins. All adds a LOT of flavor, while making it even more liquidy than the base mushy state.

One Month Post-Op-- The Fill Appointment
dannigirl replied to voiceomt2002's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
HI, I was banded jan 19th. I have lost 25 pounds so far :blushing: my first fill was yesterday. I needed it. I was starting to eat a little more and more hungry than I have been. I tend to eat 4 small snack/meals a day. Usually a protein shake for breakfast and coffee, then a couplewheat crackers and lf cheese, a small chkn salad with lf ranch, and 1/4 c yogurt and 1/4 c lf cottage chese. Hope that helps. It is normal to still think about food, that's all we did for years, it's gonna take a some work but we'll loose that. -
Do you think I need a little un-fill?
emjay replied to GuinevereCA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try warm liquids and see if they help. Also, you can try to chew up a couple of Motrin children's chewables (2-3) and see if that helps with the inflammation. For soft foods, cottage cheese, yogurt...things like that. Concentrate on eating very slowly (1 minute or 2 between small bites), and see if that helps. Some people get tighter a few weeks after a fill...not right away. Others are tight during certain times of the month, and for some, it's just fickle with no known reason why they are tight. Try a few of the things above, and remember to not gulp liquids, sip. I can only take about 3 small sips/gulps of liquid at a time, and the best is room temperature. Not that I like it that way, it's just the best way to get liquids down for me. If that doesn't work, you need to get a slight unfill. Sounds like you are very close to your sweet spot and could have just a titch too much. A few drops make a world of difference. Good luck! -
Do you think I need a little un-fill?
kiz replied to GuinevereCA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You had some very aggressive fills very fast, that's for sure. If you're able to get all your liquids down, you could try seeing how it goes, but you shouldn't be moving on to soft foods when you can barely get down a drink. Some banders have problems with eggs too, so that might not be your best bet for a soft food at the moment. When you feel comfortable moving on to a soft food, something like yogurt might be a better bet. Mimilou brought up a good point, with this being Friday, if you're still having trouble with liquids, you should call the office this morning. Better to go in when they can get you in and out quickly, rather than the weekend when it might be an emergency call to the doctor. -
Does anyone actually like their protein drink?
BLERDgirl replied to AvaFern's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like them when I doctor them up. CVS whey Protein works for me. I add small doses of fruit, almond butter sometimes even frozen coffee. I may occasionally also add spinach, flax powder, tumeric, almond milk, greek yogurt, juice (typically frozen into ice cubes and Water. I work out in the mornings. I make a double batch and have half as my pre-workout drink and the other after post work out as my Breakfast. When I am working out I burn whatever calories I take in. On my rest days I am a little less generous with add ins. My trick for when a shake is too sweet or too thick is to simply add lots of ice and a bit of water. You're still getting in the protein but also some water. -
Disappointed by food
Berry78 replied to retonya kidd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 3 weeks out, I was mostly drinking a lot of milk and protein kefir, eating yogurt and cottage cheese, and I think I started on thinned refried beans and split pea soup. Everything had to be completely smooth and runny. Not sure what you mean by "disappointed".. but this early, it's all about getting your fluids and protein in a smooth, non-irritating texture.. no worries about enjoying your food. -

need advice for work schedule and eating and drinking
Meme1504 replied to Meme1504's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There is yogurt that is Greek yogurt. It has low in carbs and 22 grams of protein. There is 2 different brands out there.Oikes I think and fajia . It is very bitter though. SO I add splender and even for a snack at night I add peanut butter just a little . Makes a good ice-scream alternative. The dietician said you can add a sugar free syrup to it. Or some fresh fruit. -
need advice for work schedule and eating and drinking
Meme1504 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes I am sure this is pretty common sense, but I am having a real hard time making this happen.I am a dental assistant and i am always at the Drs schedule. It is hard for me even to go to the bathroom. So I know I need to drink lots of fluid. My Dr and dietitian was not to pleased that this wasn't happening. Then I started to drink more. And now have problems with gurgling and belching. i asked my Dr she told me I need to sip my water and not gulp. How can I make this happen with lack of time. Also with eating the other day I ate a small salad at 1 and didn't leave work till 7. By around 4 I felt sick and the sickness stayed with me through the night. I try to listen to my dietitian she says eat protein I have tried a yogurt or high protein snack and doesn't seem to curve the appetite. I just let my stomach hurt till its time to eat again. Any ideas. What do you all do when working . -

I found these drinks at GNC called Isopure. There are usually in the refrigerator section and in a glass bottle. They have all kinds of different favors. grape and alpine punch are my favorite. They are kind of expensive but if that's the way I have to get my Protein I will. I usually have skim milk with sf chocolate syrup in the am followed by 8oz of Protein Drink. For Breakfast I usually eat lot and fit Greek yogurt and a fruit cup. lunch is usually a meat protein with veggies and same with dinner -

Louismom replied to cnicholsen10's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am doing a protien shake in the AM switching off with greek yogurt and fruit . Lunch I make on Sunday so I can bring it to work and not get stuck looking for something, which is turkey chili, or turkey taco minus the shell. Deli meat with cheese. Then dinner will be fish or chicken. What are you eating?
