  1. I am 17 days post op and gained 2lbs today. My starting weight was 269. I was 259 when I came home from the hospital. I was losing pretty well, yesterday I was 242.5 and today I went back up to 244. I was and am devastated. I am still on the 4 weeks of liquids post op. The only thing that I have added is grits.

    Back Pain Weirdness

I also had a debilitating back pain prior to surgery.. 4 pregnancies, 9 years as a gymnast, 6 years in cheer, massive weight gain after said pregnancies.. Also, my posture is terrible after the weight gain. My back didn't stop hurting when I got my RNY.. And it seems to be consistent with where it was before. If I stand up completely straight, my right side of my abdomen has a searing pain- so it's difficult to make adjustment.. Hope you figure out the problem, & you're able to fix it! Hopefully weight loss and exercise will aid.
  3. taking this to the logical extreme, why weight at all? one blogger says she only weights for doctor visits. that is my goal. I will have to take my .45 and blow a hole in each of my five scales though. I like the other recommendations and am already following most of them, getting ready for surgery.
  4. I have been banded since June 20, lost 40 lbs (20 pre op & 20 post op). I went out to eat and shared a dinner with my husband of food that I have not been having at home few ribs, fries, slice of garlic bread and now I am right back to craving and wanting to eat too much too often. Does anyone else have this problem? I don't understand why "cheating" once in a while is such a big problem for me. Is it just part of being addicted to food? I don't have a fill yet but had been loosing nicely until this happened and have since been fighting cravings and gained two pounds this morning. I do realize that the big picture is what counts and for the month I have lost fine and most likely the doctor wont fill me still because I have lost a decent amount this month. My biggest question I guess is what do I do in the future on those times I must eat out. Do I just have to suffer through the withdrawals all over again or what does anyone else do that suffers from this? Thanks for listening, Colleen

    Just Starting Out

Thanks! Flying home tonight and opted to buy a second seat because the flight was full. It is the first time I have done this and it wasn't easy. The Delta team were so kind about the whole thing but it is embarrassing. At least I am comfortable being able to spread out. I am at my highest weight and I am feeling every pound when I travel.
  8. Good job on the presurgery loss. I’ve been successful with mine as well. I’ve lost 53 pounds since I started my weight loss journey in May and people are asking if I need the surgery since I’m losing weight. I’ve struggled with my weight practically my whole life since my late teens. It always comes back. Even though this is the most weight I’ve ever lost. I have completed all of the required steps and just waiting for insurance approval. My doc is hoping to get me scheduled for November or December.
  9. It's 2 a.m. and I'm up after awakening from coughing and reflux. It has been months since I slept for more than 2 hours at a time. My primary care physician said it's reflux-induced asthma. My GI sent me for a barium swallow, but I haven't heard the results yet. I have stopped eating after 6 p.m., sleep upright in the recliner most nights (my husband has the patience of Job!), take prescription Prevacid, but I still have the reflux and cough. Even if I am fasting, I wake up choking on saliva, or have the tickling in my throat that produces the coughing. The band is not too tight because I can eat just fine. Dr. Spiegel banded me April 2005, then rebanded October 2005 due to slippage. Since the rebanding with the larger band I have had nothing but trouble. I've gained back 20 of the 40 pounds I had lost, endured overfills, underfills, and now reflux. When I called Dr. Spiegel's office for an appointment, I was told that he doesn't see patients like that, and I should drop off the x-rays and they would be in touch after he looked at them. I am now in the process of trying to get an appointment with a doctor in the medical center who provides patient care. I feel like I am floating without a doctor's care, but regular doctors don't know anything about the band. Dr. Spiegel is great for surgery, but I have had no luck in getting proper, analytical medical care. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I'm feeling very despondent.
  10. Have your surgery prior to your surgery- yo7 will be on weight restriction a minimum of 6 weeks after surgery.🎱🏆
  11. Congrats on the new place! I'd do it after you move. Both because of the weight restrictions, but also so that you can set up the new house to be super comfortable for when you get home. Also, you'll have a chance to set up your new kitchen with post-op in mind. During the move, clean out your fridge/pantry of all the foods you won't be eating. Put the kitchen tools you'll need on lower shelves so you can reach them after surgery when you may not be able to reach up high. Organize your clothes according to size so you can go closet shopping when you start to lose. Otherwise, if you're like me, you'll be in your old house with half of it packed and in chaos. You'll get to start if all off right.
  12. Thank you, Frustr8! I had not thought about weight restrictions at all. So you mean to have surgery After we move. In March?? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Two Weeks

You have no restriction yet! My doctor told me not to expect any weight loss until I get restriction from the band. Once you hit your "green zone" the weight will come off! Don't worry and be patient. It's gonna happen! :-)

These shoes are made for walkin...

I've tried about every brand of shoe. My favorites are Under Armor trainers (mine are 5+ years old and still in good enough condition to go river running and hiking in), and my Mizuno shoes. Try to find a shoe store in your area that will asses your walking pattern and whether your pronate, supinate, or are neutral. Most over weight people have over pronation issues, meaning they land on the inside of their foot with their ankles leaning inward, if you look at past shoes and there is obvious wear to the inside of the sole, that's one sign you over pronate. If that's the case, you can seek out shoes made especially for the issue that cushion the landing to keep from causing more damage and stress on joints. A good shoe store will be able to provide you with a shoe that meets your needs and foot placement during steps. It was the best investment I made in buying a quality shoe that is going to last, and treat my feet right. I went to RunOn! but there may not be one near you, and they didn't charge for the assessment, plus their shoes were comparable to other stores prices.
  15. Mental issues? Like delirious joy as the weight finally comes off? I heard it all too. Everyone tried to talk me out of it. Many presented "convincing" arguments, usually not based on any sort of medical fact, but instead on hearsay. I did it anyways because it just felt right for some reason. I'm almost 2 weeks out and I'm already loving how much I don't ned to eat, how freed I feel frommy constant hunger. I wouldn't go back if you paid me!
  16. I drink premier protein drinks they have 30g of protein per drink. They are the best tasting one I have found and seems to be the one most of us drink. You can get it at Sam's or Costco. I had to do 2 weeks of the liquid diet before the surgery. There are several reasons for this liquid diet. The first one is to shrink your liver it stores fat and needs to be shrunk so it isn't in the way as much during the surgery. The 2nd reason is it helps you get a handle on your food addiction. You will get a head start on what your new life is going to be only later you will get food as well! Head hunger is mean and that is what is going on. Once your surgery is done sometimes you will think you are hungry but you are actually experiencing head hunger. It will drive you crazy but it does get easier and easier. I am 5 weeks post op and doing much better with it. This is your time to be very honest with yourself and recognize your food addictions. This is when you will begin to modify your life so that your sleeve will be successful for life. If you don't get a grip on it then you will eventually gain weight back. Believe it or not my typing this is a reaffirmation for myself that I must continually stay on top of this monster and fix my own problems. With all that said my doctor did tell me when I was going nuts and very hungry that I could do a very lean small piece of meat with some steamed vegetables. I did this like every 3rd day for my pre op and it made the world of difference for me. Good luck on your journey...............you got this!

    Complications

Not to take away from the original post, but my program considers bariatric surgery elective as do those from everyone I've spoken to about it at both of the support groups I attend. Regardless of the classification, my insurance covered part of the cost, though I had to pay a great deal out of pocket. All of that said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat, regardless of cost. After getting to the point I am so far (still 19 pounds from my goal) I've been given a new lease on life and even if I were forced to pay hundreds of thousands (instead of just tens) I'd do it again without question. It took me a little longer than SugarFreeMe to get from Obese to Overweight, but then again I started my journey at almost double her weight. I'll never get into the "healthy" category according to the BMI calculators, but without a doubt I definitely feel and act healthy. I'm now able to do many physical things I would never have been able to dream of the last 15 years.

    Sleeve vs. Band please help!

YES! I live in Sacramento, Ca and I will be having the surgery in Richmond, California. I have Kaiser insurance and everything is covered. I had my gall bladder removed already it shouldn't be a problem with the heartburn especially if I loose the weight. Today when I went to the lunch with the "bandded" lol It FREAKED me out the gurgling, talking about fills, ect...I was like NO WAY!! lol. I am happy I found you! Did you have Laproscopic surgery? And where did they go in? I have a 8x11 peice of metal mesh from a hernia below my belly button. I am scared they wont do it, but if it's higher I am safe!

    Sleeve vs. Band please help!

With "Kaiser" there are certain steps in the process. First you go to this stupid meeting (which it is totally pointless) Then you email or call your pcp and ask for a referral. Lucky me and I was "ahead of my game" and told my pcp that I already took the class and she sent the referral!! lol. I DID take the class but just called her the day before I took it. I got ahead of about 60-70 people because I did this!! lol....I know how to work kaiser...anyways. Next is orientation. Mine is in 2 weeks! (cause I was sneaky and beat the others out!)you can meet with the surgeon there, and they tell you we will give you the surgery if you loose this much weight. (it differs to everyone) my friend had to loose about 30 pounds. THEN you have a psycological appointment and then given your surgery date. It will take me a few months to get it, and dependent on ME to loose the weight. I have NEVER EVER been so motivated!! I will for sure be on here and now I have new sleevster to talk me along the way! (you) :001_rolleyes: I am glad you shared your story with me! Yes I am actually double covered so EVERYTHING is free not even meds or co-pays. My hubby and I work for law enforcement and get great benni's!! I am lucky.

Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Current weight: 185.2 My profile picture is not me. It's my "FITspiration" body.

@Beachladee3 hi newbie😊 be consistent on which scale you listen to, doesn't matter what the weight says. if you want to go by the docs scale scale or yours , just only go by same scale - on other words don't compare each other good luck kathy
  24. I've struggled with weight my whole life. I recently have been thinking about gastric banding. I've tried everything from alli to atkins and nothing has been permanent. I gave birth to my daughter about a year and a half ago and ballooned up to 287. I never went past 235 and it was a real point in my life where I realized I need a little "tool" to help me along. It's a genetic predisposition for me. I am waiting for insurance to be approved so I have medical insurance. Than I will go to the dr to get my blood drawn etc. I passed my diabetic screening while pregnant so I am not diabetic but I did have preeclampsia. I am unsure of my other statistics so that will be determined soon. If I do not have conditions correlated, I will be denied by insurance, and from there I'm not sure where I'll go since there's no way I'd be able to fund it myself. I'm a single mother struggling, so I can only hope that things will turn out for me. Wish me luck!

Thank you for your reply toy27! Do you mind sharing what makes you feel like you should have done the weight loss yourself, versus getting the surgery?
