Going under the knife Monday morning

Good luck, Doug! I was sleeved last Monday, and although the last week has been difficult, I am doing better and starting to get back to normal activities. You will be surprised how fast the recovery time goes by! We'll all be thinking about you!
  2. VERY exciting....but Tampa isn't quite Central FL....but hopefully, this will offer a MUCH cheaper price...I save $5000 by going to an outpatient center in Dalton, GA w/ my doctor when I lived there!!! Melody Banded 3/20/06 -74lbs
  3. I see many people on the site that are on a liquid diet for 1 week. My doc says 1 MONTH and I am struggling already. Is it safe to go on to puree after 1 or 2 weeks? Thank you bunches!
  4. Thanks for your advice... I have been doing the treadmill every day.. 1st day only 3 minutes before a pause.. 2nd day 5 minutes before a pause... 3rd day 7 minutes before a pause... I do 10 minutes at the beginning and 5 minutes after my work out.... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J727AZ using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Pilates reformer has given me the lean pipes & legs i have dreamed off. I do 2 classes a week for an hour.
  6. Yup. I came home from the hospital at 9 days post-op (I had non-surgical complications) and when I weighed myself a week later I was down 19 pounds. I was worried I wouldn't lose any more weight after I came home, but in my second month I was down another 10 pounds.
  7. my surgery was on May 31st, just a little over 5 weeks ago. I am feeling more like myself now. Trying to get the Water in and the calories up. I have been averaging 500 to 600 calories a day this week. Definitely headed in right direction. Saw the dr yesterday and was told to get my caloric intake up as well as my Protein. Thank you for asking. Did you have the surgery? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Seems like you are doing pretty good now. Are you getting more support from your family now as well? Yes I had my surgery back in 2012. I lost about 100 in total and I am working to take another 20 off. That's a tough 20 to get off that's for sure.

    Psych Eval

I agree with katane. This happened to me and I was very upset at the time, but in retrospect, I am so glad it happened this way. I was only in my psych eval for 20 minutes. I think she had her decision made up when I told her I was on antidepressants and hadn't seen a therapist in a few years. I had to have 12 weeks of therapy before I could meet with my surgeon. It really was the best thing to happen to me. It has helped me to slow it down a bit and prepare. And now I have a therapist I trust and can discuss any problems before or after surgery I might have. I meet with my surgeon tomorrow and schedule my surgery! Long road, but well worth it!
  9. Post is getting a little old, but have to say this has been my experience. B-52 nailed it. All the tearing of muscle creates inflammation which, I believe, is mostly Water retention. My weight always jumps for a few days after starting a workout. I jumped 3 pounds almost overnight this last time. This initial weight gain though falls off within a week then I usually see a huge weight drop.
  10. @60&goin4it Yep finaly did. The other Josh did mine Dr Murout.. I loved him. Dr Roller said that I would. Everything is great for me also other than I havent lost a pound.... I lost about 40 lbs right before surgery and was told not to worry but Im like come on. Anyways My original Surgery was Oct 12 but got cancelled at Phys Hosp becasue my heart went Crazy So It was put off till Nov 16th. So Im only 3 weeks out... Able to eat fairly good and drink just fine... All in all a really good experiance other than the no weight loss thing. Neat to see a fellow Roller Weight Person and Neighbor. I'm from Bentonville. Live in Jasper now but family still in NWA
  11. @@tbella67 I was the same as you when I first went to see my Doctor, I was going in for the Sleeve. They said I was a good candidate for the RNY Bypass. Scared me, it sounded so invasive!!! So I did my research, talk to people who had had all three from the band to the RNY bypass. After all my research & talking over with the Dr. who has done over 4000 Bypass surgery's I decided to do what he suggested was right for me, the RNY bypass. I had it done Oct.8th this year & have been very happy with the results & wasn't near as painful as I thought it could be. Much easier. If you have acid reflux they say the RNY bypass is a better choice. I have a friend who had the RNY Bypass, at the same time his 2 younger brother's had the sleeve. After they all reached their goal, his brother's who had the sleeve began regaining most of their weight. My Dr. said, what he has seen now after the sleeve has been out for awhile, that some people were regaining their weight more often than the RNY Bypass. I didn't want to go through the process again. Don't let this discourage you what ever you choose. Many people have been successful with the sleeve, as well as the band. I know the RNY bypass is working for me so far. I have lost 21 lbs in 7 weeks since surgery. I don't even feel like I have had surgery except no hunger & I get full quickly. Best of luck to you what ever you choose!!!

    Medications post surgery

I was taking small pills 1 day post op in the hospital, per my doctor. I had to find alternatives for bigger pills. Also, I already was taking liquid Vitamins, but I was told not to take them until after I had my one week follow up appointment with my surgeon. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I'm one of the Banded now!!

Congratulations on your new journey. I will be banded in two weeks. Im so worried about the surgery but excited!
  14. I had my surgery in Mexico, too. The doctor told me to wait 6 weeks before starting any heavy exercise. Every doctor is different, though.
  15. Cleared at 4 weeks. Had no complications
  16. I am 3 weeks post-op. I had my surgery in Mexico so don't have a follow up Doctor. I walk most everyday but truly would love to start working out sometime soon. Thank you in advance.
  17. Good Luck! I work out 5-6 days a week. 2 days a week I do an intense boot camp thats a mix of cardio, weights, yoga, pilates, you name it! 2 day a week I do a Zumba class with is Latin/salsa aerobics dance class at my gym. The other days I work out with my friend doing just cardio. My trainer gave us tips on different cardio ciruits. We use 4 cardio machines (elliptical, treadmill, spin bike, and stairs). We rotate and do 5 minutes on each 2 times through the circuit. The most important thing I have learned frommy trainer is to ALWAYS switch it up! Your body will get used to the same old thing over and over and you wont see results. Dont just do cardio. You need to be toning also as you go. Good luck and hang in there. Working out is the toughest part but the MOST rewarding! It will become 2nd nature to you in no time!

How will I know when I can eat solids?

Typically you will be back on solids 4 weeks post op. Just follow your surgeon's recommended diet. It will feel strange when you start to eat solids again because of the fear. Just cut your meat the size of a pencil eraser and chew really well. In addition, you may or may not feel any restriction. It just depends on how you are healing. Don't be surprised if you can eat the same amount you could preop. That will change once you start getting fills. Good luck.

    2 weeks post op

I have lost almost 20 pounds since my surgery on July 28. I just started introducing soft mushy foods today and I was able to eat three meals: Half a cup of hummus, half a cup of lentil Soup, and an Asian broth with soft tofu. For a snack I had quarter cup of cottage cheese and I felt totally totally full all day long. You do have to eat very slowly. It's a nice change of pace considering I used to eat so so so so quickly. Looking forward to the days to come. Tomorrow I plan to go to Boston market to get mashed potatoes and creamed spinach.

Slippage? Pain in mid/ lower left

They've unfilled my ring totally last monday but as a matter of fact there wasn't much left in the ring. The x-ray was on thursday and I had barely eaten and been mostly on liquids for 3 weeks prior, and the ring still showed to be displaced. So, now I have another x-ray monday AM, in case it gets better, but they told me to bring my suitcase as they are not really expecting any improvement and want to proceed with the surgery ASAP. So this is probably the last chat I do until after I get back ... I am nervous as things are really moving fast and I now know exactly what I'm heading into, and I didn't find it easy ... I have to keep positive ... It's for the best .... and keep looking at my new pair of jeans size 12 Thanks for your support!
  21. I'm no doctor... but it may be too much exercise too soon! I was not cleared for intense cardio till about week 6! I was encouraged to walk daily and move but not at a high intensity level. Also, like the poster above, I was not cleared for mushies till week 6! When I did start mushies, it was a very slow process; literally a table spoon or so = a meal! lol. I would check with my doctor just to be sure. But it may just be that your body wants you to slow down a little bit while it's still healing. I sure hope you feel better soon!!! Please post and let us know how your'e doing!!!!

    Post op soups and protein

If you're on Clear liquids, check with your doctor about how to prepare the soup. Clear liquids usually mean that you would prepare the soup with Water rather than milk. I would call on that and ask. Also, what is "phase 3" on your eating plan? Generally, the time after WLS is staged out 1 being clear liquids, 2 being full liquids, 3 being pureed foods and/or soft foods, etc.

There is this one guy in my office that makes me blush. You know the one; ultra good looking, nice, suave, the whole package. Anyway, he's been commenting on my weight loss for the last couple of weeks. Well yesterday, I was walking in a door as he was walking out. He stopped as he was walking out and was like 'Hi Julia' as I was walking away to my desk. He didn't just walk out quickly, he paused for a minute. I think he was checking out my fanny :blushing: I just said hi and kept walking. It's nice to have the fellas take notice again. J.

The jouney has begun... let's get the party started!

Well, hello and welcome to my first blog ever. I got lap band July 20th, about 3 weeks ago in Monterrey, MX by Dr. Zapata. It was a very good experience and I do recommend Monterrey for such precedures. The hospital was exceptionally nice and I had the most attentive medical care that I have experienced. It was better than I expect I would have received in the US. Now that the band is in and I am trying to return to my normal rutine I do find it difficult to manage my eating. I am hypoglycemic and at times my need for food is critical. When I have low blood sugar my ability to make good decisions is diminised from the lack of energy to my brain, hence I eat quickly on whatever is easy to find - usually a bready carb of some type. Now that I have lap band I get clogged up and throw up each and every time. If anyone has any recommendations on this please let me know. When I am not having low blood suger I am making wise food choices and sticking to my food plan. I have lost 20 lbs now and I do plan on posting pictures that show the progression toward my goal weight of 170. My preop weight was 266. I look forward to all the health benefits of not being obese as well as the ability to be more active with my son and the additional life benefits with my wife. Fat people really are limited in every way. This will be such a liberation from a lifetime of limitations. It almost makes you feel unworthy when your family or friends will not be enjoying the same freedom, but everyone must make their own choices. I have chosen to start a new journey toward health and energy. God be with me, because it is a long road...
