    Lap Band to Sleeve Conversion

Hi, You might want to post your question on the band to gastric sleeve revisions forum. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/394-band-to-gastric-sleeve-revisions/

    Revision surgery

I tried for a revision late last year and was denied by my insurance company. Lap band in 2008, 80 pounds lost in 2 years, 60 pounds regained in 1 year. I was devastated for years and decided to try to do something about it again and was denied. At that point I decided to just love myself for who I am and I met a man soon after who loved me as I am but also supports my weight loss. I've decided to go in again and try again. I'll keep you posted!
  4. Long story short - lap band in 2008, lost 80 pounds gained 60 back. Was denied by BCBS for a revision to Gastric Bypass back in November of last year with a BMI of a little over 35. BMI is now at 37. I did not contest the denial as I was just having an unrelated surgery and was also told that I had to have a BMI of 40 for 5 years before I would even be eligible again. I will call my Dr. to go in again for another consultation to see if they will resubmit to my insurance company. My question is, has anyone been denied by their insurance company for a revision but then was successful a second (or third) time around with insurance at a BMI of 37-38 with no other morbidity issues? I am not even sure if my lap band Dr. will even service my band anymore as it was deemed a "failure" and the insurance won't pay to have it removed (and I'm not having any complications from it so i'm OK with it staying in). Thank you

    Stricture

Ilovecats. How was revision? Dr had talked about this. I am pregnant and having dilation. Very scared. I cant really eat.
  6. I'm, unfortunately, one of those where the band just did not do the job as hoped. I received the band in July 2006, but to recent health issues and yo-yo weigh-ins, I'm being referred for the sleeve. Considering the actual success rate, I'm very much looking forward to starting the journey to the sleeve. So I'm wondering, has anyone had any experience with the revision? How did it go with insurance, the requirements, etc?

    BCBS Federal..

I don't have BCBS, but most insurance companies usually require at least a 40 BMI and at least one co-morbidity confirmed, like diabetes, sleep apnea, or high blood pressure. Maybe some might do a 35 BMI? But I do know that a family history isn't enough. I'm actually looking at getting a revision so I have the joy of going through it again.
  8. Just a reminder that this is a MINI GASTRIC BYPASS forum. We are sharing information about NEGATIVES about the MINI GASTRIC BYPASS operation, not the sleeve, not Gastric Bypass, not the lap band, but negatives about the MINI GASTRIC BYPASS. Of couse some may be having revisions TO the Mini Gastric Bypass, and we can share about that, but the purpose of this particular forum is the negatives about the MINI GASTRIC BYPASS. We are all anxious to hear about post surgery MINI Gastric bypass patients and the negatives of their experience. Thanks everyone!
  9. I had my VGS done 2 years ago. Failed...only end result was a 40 lbs weight loss. On Wed AUG 5 I am going in and having the DS performed. Any last minute advice to help me be successful this time?
  10. Does anyone else have a problem with myfittnesspal ap for iPhone? Often I log something and then it doesn't show up in my diary- i do this repeatedly. It is very annoying - am I doing something wrong. I am almost 5 weeks out and eating between 600-800 calories a day and hitting the Protein goal without shakes. I have been on solids for a week now, eating chicken, burger patty without bun and chicken burgers, meatballs cheese etc. Does this seem weird to anyone? I feel like many on this site can barely eat. I don't understand this. I asked my PA and she said that I think it is because your surgeon is amazing. She said she goes bariatric conferences and is bewildered that patients even have problems with this surgery. This made me feee a bit better but since I am a revision I can't help but worry. My carbs are usually very very low but I have no problem eating small meals. Keep wondering if something is wrong!

    Stricture

I was 6 years out and had a revision roux n y on June 8. I threw up all the time. Come to find out my previous doctor left a not needed piece of intestine called a blind loop. Food was going to my new stomach and to this intestine and creating bacteria. I also had a hiatal hernia. If it wasn't for the strictures I would feel great. I am very great full my new doctor took the time to solve the problem.

  13. Hi everyone! I was a July 16 revision, (band to sleeve). I was curious about a couple of things. 1. About how many calories/protien is everyone getting in? Being 17 days out, I have a huge struggle with getting in fluids and protien in. I am supposed to be on just liquid protien and creamy Soups still for another week, and I basically have given up on trying because the thought of another protien drink is nauseating. I called and asked if I can branch into Greek yogurt and got that blessing. But I am currently getting in maybe 300-400 calories a day if I am lucky. Maybe 20-30 grams of protien. 2. At 17 days post op, what stage of diet were you on? Any good recipes if yoj are post liquids? I am still on liquids, but I would kill to have a soft cooked egg. Or something more than a cream Soup. I am not asking for a burger, I am totally down with a healthy choice. I just can't take another shake. (I sound pathetic I know, lol) 3. Has anyone had sharp pains on their sides or an aching pain? My recovery was not as traditional. I have two small kids and went back to work after day 4. My husband has tried to help, but he works about 70 hours a week, so I have been doing my best to manage life with recovery while tending to all my duties. 4. How much can you take in in a sitting? I can do 1/2 cup and then I am done. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Congratulations to all of us on this excited journey!

  15. My revision from band to sleeve is finally scheduled! September 9! It bums me out that it's not sooner. I started this journey in February of this year. I've jumped through all the insurance hoops and now I still have to wait due to surgeon being busy ????. I have to keep telling myself that September will be here before I know it and he must be good since he so busy. Lol

    2 surgeries?

My revision was one in 2 surgeries too. That's the only way my doctor will do it now. He used to do it in one surgery, but he said the chances of a leak are a lot higher (but like you said, still low) with one surgery. I had my band out in March but because of some other things that came up am just having sleeve surgery tomorrow. I hope that by waiting 5 months my stomach will be well healed and that I'll get a nice tight little sleeve.
  17. I was approved to have my lapband removed. I had it done at Silver Cross in 2008. I want to revise to sleeve, approved as well. My physician Dr.Lahman only does it in 2 surgeries. I would really like to do it one less trauma, time off,cost,etc.. any one had this done in my area.
  18. Starting my second journey with weight loss surgery. Had a lap band done several years ago which was not successful. My brother, two good friends and my daughter have all had gastric bypass and have been successful, so I decided that I needed to do something about my own weight so that I can do things with my grandkids (such as ride roller coasters!) before they're too old to want to do things with their grandma - plus be around for future major events in their lives. I've seen the doctor and the dietician, and will see the director of the bariatric program this week. If we can get it approved, I have a two week window to schedule the surgery for in October...otherwise, I will have to wait until after the first of the year. Either way, it's a go for me - but I'd love to start sooner than later. BTW, it's been 10 successful years since my brother's surgery. He's such an inspiration! My daughter is just 4 weeks post-op and doing well. Trying to eat a little healthier and get in that habit now. Anyone have input for me about a revision?

Regarding your question about informing potential employers of your plan for surgery... I had a revision on my lap-band on a Thursday and was in an interview within 24 hours after the surgery. I had the same kind of question...do I tell them I had surgery the day before? I decided not to disclose that information and everything turned out well...I got the job. I think of an anticipatory surgery like I do about a vacation. Don't disclose that in the interview but if/when you are offered the position and are discussing a start, then you can mention you have a procedure coming up especially if you have a set surgery date. If you are discussing a start date and don't have a surgery date, I wouldn't mention it. Does that make sense?! Anyway, I'm scheduled for the sleeve on Friday, August 7. Good luck! -C

    Struggling with Second Thoughts

I had RNY surgery 29 months ago. Severe acid reflux or GERD is incompatible with the sleeve. RNY is definitely the better choice here. I had several episodes of severe acid reflux before surgery and none since. I had a number of medical conditions prior to surgery and the main reason why I did the surgery was to get those under control. Within days after surgery, my diabetes, high blood pressure, GERD, sleep apnea, frequent urination problems went into remission and stayed there. I was off my meds. One of the reasons why I liked RNY was that it caused you to lose weight the quickest and produced the deepest weight loss and most importantly had the least amount of revisions. If I went under the knife once, I sure did not want to do it again, and again. RNY surgery is not like dieting. I tried dieting a couple times and it was a complete failure. After surgery I completely lost my hunger. It wasn't difficult to lose weight when hunger was not constantly gnawing at my bones.

    Struggling with Second Thoughts

Oh, one more thing - you should read some of the sleeve to bypass revision threads. While I know there are plenty of people who are successful with the sleeve, there are a lot who end up revising due to reflux or other issues, so they might be the best to talk to.
  23. First surgery: September 25, 2015 249 lbs (Sleeve) second surgery: December 10, 2015 (gastric bypass) June 2015 135 lbs=114 total lost!! I had a lot of problems in the 3 months between surgeries, which is why they did the revision.. Totally worth it all in the end.. Happier, healthier and feeling great!

    I'm new.

I had the revision 7/15/15 from band to bypass and I was so nervous but it melted away as soon as I got into my hospital gown and met my nurses. You'll do great! Let us know how it goes.
  25. I didn't have the robot for my revision but did have it when I had a hysterectomy last September and it was awesome. I had the tiniest incisions and it didn't really hurt as much as other surgeries.
