Starving at 6 days out....
Pixie Dust replied to Pixie Dust's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really love you all!!! Thanks so much! I did take my PPI this morning & so far, so good. I have had 12 oz Water (not doing so great today) so far & nearly an entire 5.3 oz container of 100 calorie Yoplait Green Lemon flavored yogurt. NUT said to stay away from seeds & the first bite I had of yogurt was strawberry & got a mouth full of itty bitty seeds that I spit out (well, wipe them off my tongue with a napkin actually). Now I'm having my first Protein shake of the day which is 110 calories/14 grms of protein & I mixed it with 6 oz of fat free milk, which has protein too but not sure how much?? Have to get back to drinking water like I did yesterday. I was so hungry yesterday so that's why I drank so much! I do find that when I drink my stuff super cold, it goes down better for me. Also, I can take a nice sized gulp too. I don't have to take an itty bitty sip like the NUT said & everyone else. Only if it's cold tho! If I hadn't seen my upper GI x-ray, I'd have really wondered if I had been sleeved, but I saw my banana shaped/sized tummy so it must have happened! With the hunger I had yesterday tho, I was really doubting I did have the surgery! Thanks so much for all your help! It's nice to come here where people understand cause as much as my hubby wants to understand, he just doesn't since he hasn't been in my shoes. He won't ever be either since he knows how to control himself, unlike me. -
I too was banded on 12/2 Have not had any issues with food as yet, and am eating yogurt, Jello, cottage cheese, applesauce, mashed potatoes since I got home. My incisions have not bothered me alot, until today, so can't wait until the inner stitches dissolve. I plan on going back to work Monday, and may have them come get me, as we are expecting a snowstorm. (Indiana) My scales tell me I am down about 11 lbs and am so looking forward to the rest of this journey. Audrey

Am I sposed to be so hungry not even a week out?
swilliams168 replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm one week post-op and have been starving since I left the recovery room! I've tried thin cream soup, yogurt, pudding, protein shakes. Even when I can't eat anymore, I still feel the pang of hunger. I'm miserable! -
Get up, wipe off youself and have a really good rest of the day. Track your yogurt and make some good choices for the rest of the day. Nothing you can do about it now, it is done, and you realized it and although didn't stop it, acknowledged it. Tomorrow is another day.

I haven't had surgery yet, but I keep getting people's opinions.
MINI-Me replied to wannalise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wannalise - I can totally relate ... My son works part time in a grocery store while going to college. His main area is the dairy department. A woman the other day was looking at some Greek Yogurt and asked his opinion. He told her that I was interested in the yogurt as well since it was high in Protein and good for WLS patients. Without knowing him or my situation, she went off on him. Kept telling him that I didn't need surgery and that I was taking the easy way out. To say the least, he was really upset. He knows my struggles and my family history. He totally supports my decision. To think he was sharing something he was proud of and to be assaulted by a complete stranger. How am I going to handle this type of "conversation" once I'm sleeved. If someone asks, I will be honest. If they "protest", I will let them know that they need to do what's right for them just like I had to do what's right for me. Don't know if that helped or not, but that's my plan. Congratulations on your decision. If you need support or encouragement, there is plenty of that around here. Welcome. -
Liquid diet on monday....do you actually mourn food?
MaryfromMI replied to krstjump03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having surgery on Monday, so tomorrow is day 10 of my liquid diet. The first day of the diet was pure torture. It was like I was going through food withdrawl, but looking back on it now, I realized most of it was in my head. My relationship with food also became very apparent in those first couple of days and how much I really enjoy eating good food. I will give you some advice though to hopefully make your liquid diet easier. For the first couple of days, make sure you eat every 2 hours and don't wait until your stomach is growling to eat because when I did that, nothing filled me up and I wanted to eat everything in sight. After a couple days, your body gets used to the diet and it will become easier. The Protein shake that just made your stomach growl louder a couple days ago now miracuously fills you up. I went from eating every two hours and still having a growling stomach to only having 3 SF carnation instant breakfasts, a yogurt or cottage cheese, and some SF Jello everyday. Also, drink lots and lots of Water. And if you feel the need to chew something, chew gum! It's a liquid diet and it sucks, but it does eventually become bearable. Hope this helps! -

Stomache pain when eating
MimiFB replied to volsfan82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Volsfan2 - I was sleeved on 10/12 and I have not had any issues so far and I am keeping my fingers crossed that the trend continues. Refried Beans are not allowed on my plan. So far, I have only tried broth, yogurt and Soup and of course the Protein drinks with no issues. I drink/eat them all pretty slowly. Hope you get better soon. -

Hallelujah! I had my second fill on Tuesday and I think I'm finally feeling restriction! Could it be I've hit the green zone? I hope so. Last night after I finished my dinner I remarked to my husband how I felt weird because I wanted to eat more (I make a mean cauliflower mash) but I couldn't. I really try not to drink with my meals but when I take my vitamins and pills I have to drink something afterwards. I then sat down to eat my yogurt with fruit and barely got a few bites in when I just couldn't eat anymore. I'm stuffed! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this continues and now I know I will really have to stick to not drinking right before, during or after meals. I'll have to sneak in my vitamins since sometimes they seem like a meal in themselves. Yeah me!

Take a look at Bariatric Advantage, They have multiple Flavors, in terms of calcium they have them in crystal form and you can mix them like crystal light, they have an unflavored one which you can mix with your juice, yogurt, etc. Take a look I know it has helped alot of people when texture and taste becomes an issue. Heres the Link. Bariatric Advantage - Bariatric Advantage Calcium Crystals, Stick Pack (60 servings), Unflavored -
I need help w/ liquid diet!
fatmom replied to Katycando's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I can tell you what I'm allowed to do on my 14 day pre op diet. shake for Breakfast and lunch. A small piece of fruit with lunch. (smaller than a baseball, slightly larger than a golf ball) A midafternoon snack of 1 ounce of low or no fat cheese (one string cheese is acceptable), or a 90 calorie yogurt or 1.2 c. no fat cottage cheese. dinner is 4 ounces of lean Protein, chicken, turkey, lean beef; 1 c. vegetables by volume; 2 slices of whole grain bread. I often use fat free mayo and make a sandwich. My other mainstain is using the skinless chicken tenders you buy in the fresh meat dept. of your grocery. That makes it quick and easy to cook and weigh. I switch up the seasonings I sprinkle on: Greek, Italian, Mrs. Dash.... Then you are allowed 10 baby carrots for an evening snack. My instructions said that I could rearrange this as needed or desired but could not eat anything that was not on the list. A lot of days I get too busy and don't bother with the Snacks, other days I eat it all. Hope that helps! -
Just call me... newbie :o)

I revised from the band to the sleeve after 8 short months. The sleeve and band are only similar in the fact that they are only restrictive procedures. The disadvantage of the band is your restriction will vary, the first 2-3 months, your stomach is swollen, but then you have to get fills to hit the "sweet spot". I never got there, and quit losing, and even gained back a few of the initial 25-27lbs I lost the first 3 months. Every day was a surprise with the band. Some days, I could eat any food (except for bread) then other days, I couldn't get yogurt down without sliming and throwing up. Food got stuck even though I chewed it up to mush. There haven't really been any disadvantages to having the sleeve for the last 4 months. I've enjoyed all the foods I did before surgery just in smaller portions. I've only gotten something stuck once, and it wasn't the same as things getting stuck with my band. The constant aftercare and maintenance of the band was just inconvenient and disappointing. I've been beyond pleased with my results with the sleeve, and have zero regrets. -

Morning I have a Protein shake with benefiber and coffee lunch Usually half a hamburger patty or half chicken breast or salmon leftovers from the night before snack sugar free Jello with 2 Tbs plain greek yogurt or string cheese or strawberries or for a treat a graham cracker with pnut butter dinner 2- 3 oz meat 1/4 cup veggies of some sort occasionally stir fry over dreamfields Pasta occasionally eat out with friends snack cheese or sugar free popsicle My typical calorie count on myfittnesspal is between 900-1100 cal The first 2 weeks of july I drank shakes and no food lost nothing. Second 2 weeks went lo carb and kept carbs under 30 a day. I lost one stinking lb. I'm just frustrated and it did feel good not to be hungry today. It felt like it did last summer when my sleeve was new. In terms of exercise I am switching from 5 days a week 1hr workouts to 5 days 1 1/2 hr workouts and upping the intensity. -

So I'm not worried but have a question
MTWilliams replied to MTWilliams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I've been approved to eat things like mashed potato, refried Beans or mashed beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, pudding. Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App -
I make sure I meet the recommended fiber intake - 14 grams per 1000 calories of food. I track it on MyFitnessPal. Some of this is from supplements (I use the Equate Sugar Free fiber powder -- put a couple teaspoons into protein shakes, yogurt, etc.) but most is from natural food sources. I haven't had any problems with constipation - I'm an every day kind of person.

leaving soon, need packing ideas
Banded14yr replied to PamRN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Pack light! My husband and son traveled with me, and we each had a small bag. It made it alot easier not having to check in luggage. I only brought 3 sets of lose fitting shorts and shirts. I wore some slip on sandals on the trip and didn't bother bringing tennis shoes or any other kind of shoes. I packed the basic makeup neccesities, but didn't bother too much with it while in Mexico. Heck, I was there for surgery and wasn't worried that I would see anybody that I knew Bring a good book or some magazines so that you'll have something to read while in the hospital. I had my surgery on Monday and Dr. Rodriguez' assistant took us all shopping at a local mall in Monterrey on Tuesday afternoon. It was good to get out and walk around. We bought my son a Monterrey soccer jersey that's really cool We didn't bring a lot of cash with us, we used our debit card in the mall without any problems. We made sure that we had a some single dollar bills so that we could tip the taxi drivers. I brought some chewable Gas-X with me. Glad I did. I didn't bring any other types of medication. They gave me an antibiotic and pain medication when I checked out of the hospital. My fridge was stocked with bottled Water, apple and grape juice, V-8, applesauce, yogurt, yogurt drinks, pudding and Jello. I also had a lot of chicken noodle and vegatable Soup that I was able to strain the noodles and veggies out for the first week after my surgery. It sounds like you have everything ready to go. I didn't pack until the day I flew out, so you have a great head start on things! T -

I was banded a week ago today. Finally feeling better! I was a disaster. I am drinking alot of yogurt smoothies. 10 g of Protein too. I am on liquids until next Thursday eeekkk. I have had hicups every day. Is this normal. Help! -
I know what you mean. I work at the hospital where I'm being banded on August 20. I have seen great results from the folks that had 3 weeks of liquid diet pre-op. One gent lost 33 lbs in that time. Had lunch with him and his wife (he was banded a month ago, she was banded last week). She had yogurt. He had tuna salad and some chopped veggies. Both seem to be doing quite well. He took a week off work. She is taking 2 weeks. She did not do the liquid pre-diet, but I can see the 8 lb difference in her already. Seriously.

Pre Op Liquid Diet. Help!
bandicootc replied to mandersue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the myoplex lite which has forever ruined me on the taste and smell of cake. I have the true results brand. The vanilla is awful but strawberry and chocolate are great. I also have now foods whey protein isolate. It is unflavored so you can add it to anything. Warm or cold. My fav post op one is the protein shots. They taste awful (fruit punch) but at 2.5oz. 26g protein and 110 calories they are perfect. She. I am not making my protein for the day I drink one. Two gulps and done. And they stave hunger. Sooooo triple bonus. I can't drink a whole shake now. I am 3 months out. I recommend the unflavored. Put it in jello, yogurt, broth, whatever. Just put it in after slightly cooled so it doesn't curdle. Also, it mixes completely without the gritty taste. -
Pre Op Liquid Diet. Help!
beba238 replied to mandersue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMGosh You guys are like heaven to my ears... I started my liquid diet today and omg seriously its ALL IN THE HEAD. I work two jobs and sometimes I am so busy that I dont get the change to grab a bite (i do eat a goo Breakfast though). I get home after 10 and most of the time i am too tired to think of food and i just shower and go to bed. BUT all of a sudden I wasn't so busy today... wtfudge? and I was starving with my slim fast shake for breakfast and 2nd shake for lunch. i was dying lol first time and i swear i am telling the truth... 3 co-workers came to me asking if i wanted to order food with them. My bf after work was like lets go get nachos and i'm like ummm HELLLOOO lol... Anyways i am allowed 2 Snacks which i ate one after the other.. a 1/2 cup of sugar free jell-o and a 1/2 cup of yogurt. MY MOTHER IS AMAZING... made my dinner.. 6oz grilled chicken, 1 cup of salad and 1/2 cup of broth. (Mind you i wasn't even hungry anymore) lol I can do this! WE Can do this.. by the way what kinds of shake are you guys drinking? Slim-fast is killing me slowly. -
Tuna salad, Greek yogurt, soup in a thermos, baked, boneless chicken thighs( can't do chicken breasts, too dry), I actually had a small piece of filet mignon the other day. I had stayed away from beef, biut gave the filet a try, great. Scallops go down very easily, nicely grilled, they were very moist. I try to have a very small green sald with dressing and that works well. I used to love raw cauliflower, but not now. Have learned to love well- cooked cauliflower with a bit of margarine and salt and pepper. Also, egg salad made with low fat mayo and some mustard. I will also have lots of soups, small cups. And smoothies made with unjury powder with a banana and tablespoon of peanut butter...... mmmmmm....

Less hungry further out
RJ'S/beginning replied to shannon crotts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will gradually have days when you are hungry all the time and others that you do not eat much....10 months out and this is where I am at now.....I eat according to how I feel and since I can't eat more then a cup....The days I don't feel hungry I eat a lot of protein and yogurt. Things like that...When I am having hungry days I eat nuts and seeds 1/4 cup for snacks..It helps a lot!
