    Complications

Not to take away from the original post, but my program considers bariatric surgery elective as do those from everyone I've spoken to about it at both of the support groups I attend. Regardless of the classification, my insurance covered part of the cost, though I had to pay a great deal out of pocket. All of that said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat, regardless of cost. After getting to the point I am so far (still 19 pounds from my goal) I've been given a new lease on life and even if I were forced to pay hundreds of thousands (instead of just tens) I'd do it again without question. It took me a little longer than SugarFreeMe to get from Obese to Overweight, but then again I started my journey at almost double her weight. I'll never get into the "healthy" category according to the BMI calculators, but without a doubt I definitely feel and act healthy. I'm now able to do many physical things I would never have been able to dream of the last 15 years.

    Sleeve vs. Band please help!

YES! I live in Sacramento, Ca and I will be having the surgery in Richmond, California. I have Kaiser insurance and everything is covered. I had my gall bladder removed already it shouldn't be a problem with the heartburn especially if I loose the weight. Today when I went to the lunch with the "bandded" lol It FREAKED me out the gurgling, talking about fills, ect...I was like NO WAY!! lol. I am happy I found you! Did you have Laproscopic surgery? And where did they go in? I have a 8x11 peice of metal mesh from a hernia below my belly button. I am scared they wont do it, but if it's higher I am safe!

    Sleeve vs. Band please help!

With "Kaiser" there are certain steps in the process. First you go to this stupid meeting (which it is totally pointless) Then you email or call your pcp and ask for a referral. Lucky me and I was "ahead of my game" and told my pcp that I already took the class and she sent the referral!! lol. I DID take the class but just called her the day before I took it. I got ahead of about 60-70 people because I did this!! lol....I know how to work kaiser...anyways. Next is orientation. Mine is in 2 weeks! (cause I was sneaky and beat the others out!)you can meet with the surgeon there, and they tell you we will give you the surgery if you loose this much weight. (it differs to everyone) my friend had to loose about 30 pounds. THEN you have a psycological appointment and then given your surgery date. It will take me a few months to get it, and dependent on ME to loose the weight. I have NEVER EVER been so motivated!! I will for sure be on here and now I have new sleevster to talk me along the way! (you) :001_rolleyes: I am glad you shared your story with me! Yes I am actually double covered so EVERYTHING is free not even meds or co-pays. My hubby and I work for law enforcement and get great benni's!! I am lucky.

    Eggs and refried beans

This is my week for puree stage. I do well on the beans although it fills me up very quick. I can't stomach scrambled eggs but I do well with deviled eggs & mashed hard boil eggs. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Current weight: 185.2 My profile picture is not me. It's my "FITspiration" body.

    Aggravated!

@Beachladee3 hi newbie😊 be consistent on which scale you listen to, doesn't matter what the weight says. if you want to go by the docs scale scale or yours , just only go by same scale - on other words don't compare each other good luck kathy
  8. I've struggled with weight my whole life. I recently have been thinking about gastric banding. I've tried everything from alli to atkins and nothing has been permanent. I gave birth to my daughter about a year and a half ago and ballooned up to 287. I never went past 235 and it was a real point in my life where I realized I need a little "tool" to help me along. It's a genetic predisposition for me. I am waiting for insurance to be approved so I have medical insurance. Than I will go to the dr to get my blood drawn etc. I passed my diabetic screening while pregnant so I am not diabetic but I did have preeclampsia. I am unsure of my other statistics so that will be determined soon. If I do not have conditions correlated, I will be denied by insurance, and from there I'm not sure where I'll go since there's no way I'd be able to fund it myself. I'm a single mother struggling, so I can only hope that things will turn out for me. Wish me luck!

    Just Beginning My VSG Journey

Thank you for your reply toy27! Do you mind sharing what makes you feel like you should have done the weight loss yourself, versus getting the surgery?

    North Ga Bandster 2007

I have been banded since 2012, lost over 150 pounds and then I got pregnant and gained 60 during the pregnancy and another 30 since I had him 6 months ago. I’m am working on getting my fills again but my doctor closed his office when the hospital in the area shut down and he won’t be opening up again until after the first of the year in 2018 so I am struggling and I’m desperate need of some support and people near by that can help me get back to where I was and to slap the junk food out of my hands! I know what to do and I’ve done it but why does it seem so much harder now than it was when I first got it

    When was your first stall?

The detox is a good idea and maybe mix up your calorie intake. Try increasing your caloric intake to make your body increase it's metabolism. Not enough to gain weight of course, but maybe 200-400 for a few days? I stalled at 7 months but it's mostly my own fault. I'm hitting it hard starting today. tmf
  12. Hey all. My name is Tyler, I'm 25 from Alabama. I was 367 at the doctor's office the other day, and 5'10", giving me a real sucky BMI of 52. I'm glad to have found this site, some of the folks I've met on here are very cool and all of the pictures I've seen and stories I've read are very inspiring. According to BCBS of AL, I've got to have the same 6 mos. pre-surgery diet that most of you need also. Mine also states that with a nutritionalist-led diet such as Weight Watchers that I only have to visit with my doctor three times during that 6 mos. I started WW in April of this year, so that gives me 5 months so far. I didn't decide to have the surgery until last month, however. It's been weighing on my mind here lately and I would like the next five years to be alot more exciting than the last five have. Anyhow, I had my initial visit in July to discuss the surgery with my doc. I went to the seminar this past Thursday night at Dr. DeWitt's office, so that's out of the way. Just waiting until the first of October so I can meet with him again for a visit. I'm hoping that somehow everything will fall into place and maybe I'll be able to have it in the next few months. One of his nurses at the seminar said she'd never had anyone to regret it, and was really excited and upbeat for me to have it done. The staff I met with were really nice and welcoming, I don't regret choosing Dr. DeWitt at all. Anyhow, just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. Looking forward to making progress with all of you.

    New feller.

Hi Tyler. I also want to add my congratulations that you are decided to take control of your own destiny and not let your weight dictate your life. It took me a while to make a decision to have this surgery. I went to my first info session where I met my soon to be surgeon back in November 2008. It took me about 6 more months to decide this is what I wanted and then to start the 6 month diet. I have BCBS of NY so they probably have a similar program. You have made the right decision to have lapband surgery. We are all in this together!!! My surgery date is 9/17 - this coming Friday!:thumbup::tongue2::thumbup:
  15. I was definitely Anti Social prior to surgery for the 6 months. I didn't go out barely ever except functions for friends and family. Now I am only 4 days post op but consistently dropping weight and looking forward to being more agile. I never felt comfortable at my high weight and was definitely embarrassed of myself and for letting myself get that big. I also noticed in just a ~30lb weight change how strangers respond to you in a more positive direction. I am just focusing all my effort towards maximizing my surgery and bettering my life for the long term and being less worried about others. Also this process definitely points out people who really care about people and maybe friendships or family members you may become closer with after this surgery.

    6 Month Post Op

Wow! that is awesome weight loss! Congratulations!
  17. I was impatient at first but after hearing the following several times, I got to a place of more patience with the process. (1) the weight didn't get there overnight and it's not going to disappear overnight; (2) slow weight loss (2-3 lbs a week) is safer and healthier (3) slow weight loss will minimize saggy skin It probably helps that I'm 60 years old, 'cause if there's one thing that life has impressed upon me (beaten into me) it is that there's no point getting antsy about something that you can't really affect. It's gonna get here when it gets here, no matter if I agitate about it or not. The only difference is that if I fuss and fume, it's going to SEEM like it's taking LONGER. So now I go about my business and relegate the weight loss to a secondary position in my life. I do still talk about it a lot with my close friends, and I get excited about the milestones (like BMI under 30 a few days ago), but I'm able to work and enjoy life day by day too. There's a wise saying that I don't remember exactly, but it's something about we can't always control what happens to us, but we CAN control how we react to it. Best wishes!
  18. So I'm six months out and have been the same weight for a month.....thank god I hit onderland before I stalled but I'm wondering if this is a trend around 6 months or just when my stall is starting.......any tricks to get through a stall? Thinking about doing a weekend detox just to clean everything out and maybe get a kick start to these last 55 lbs.

    Ramadan Fasting for Muslim Bandsters

After my emergency unfill, I eventually gained 4 pounds between the unfill to the refill on 9/23. I have not fasted at all I was horrified by how hard it was without a fill. I went from not being hungry (and sometimes ask myself "omg I missed lunch 2 hours ago and didn't notice") to the moment my eyes opened in bed I was thinking about BREAKFASSSTTTT. I felt like I could eat a horse. I actually was able to eat bread and rice again during this time. It was a continuous struggle with constant hunger and the food obsession that was missing since banding returned the very day I got the unfill. I really did my best to curb overeating. I had a few indulgences, of course, but tried not to overdo it and stay healthy in choices. I got a fill on Tuesday and, thank goodness for such sweet relief, I am back in the game again without too much damage being done. I am officially at my previously stated weight of 150. I didn't have the heart to change my stats in the wrong direction, but now that they are true again I feel like I am back on the losing band wagon. I will get an unfill for certain before Ramadan next year . . . but perhaps just a small one.

    Ramadan Fasting for Muslim Bandsters

I have been thinking about using Water in a way considered inappropriate, such as drinking after eating with a reduced timeframe to wait in this special case. Today was a lot better than yesterday, but I think that might be because I made sure to drink a lottt of water and eat healthy options. I also added a shake as well at night to bolster my calories a little because I just can't eat much in such tight timeframes. I am not sure if I can lose much weight during this unusual eating pattern. I have been losing steadily and am afraid to mess up a good thing . . . a routine that is working for me. I guess I will see how it goes.
  21. Hi Dune, The last year, since surgery, for me has been a long slow haul. All the weight I've lost and kept off has been pre-banding. I've lost 26 pounds since banding, but put it back on during the months I was overfilled and eating slider foods. For me, this last year has been a learning process about how the band will work for me...and, as a result, I'm once again starting to lose. None of the WLS will prevent us from gaining weight if we don't figure out how to work our particular tool. .
  22. Ok so i had my first lap band surgery on october 6 2010.....I had my port flip.....had it surgically corrected, then the band got infected and had to be removed.....This all happened by december of 2010.....I think I may be nuts, but I am going to meet with my dr on friday to see if he will give it another go! I was doing very well with the band....I was following the diet and had lost almost 40lbs......but now i am right back to where i started! I know that th band wasnt easy....I worked my ass of for that 40 lbs.....I promised myself that i would never be back at this weight again, and here I am.....I lose sleep over my weight....I am a 29 year old mom of five and have been married to my hubby for almost 7 years.....he is going to go with me to the dr on friday....he is against the surgery the second time as he had to watch me endure the first three surgeries and all the recovery time....never min the depression that followed......but he said that he will be supportive as he can be.....he knows that i am unhappy with my current weight....I have been going to the gym, but now with the colder weather, my ankle is killing me from where i broke it and had surgery on it a few years back.....so I am just down and out!!!! I am praying that my insurance will pay for this surgery the second time around.....I am not telling anyone this time either....I dont need any of the negative comments about how it didnt work out well the first time!!!! Sometimes i just wanna scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pounds versus Inches Question

Absolutely! Happened to me too! I had been taking weekly pics...there were 3 weeks straight that I lost NO weight- but my body shape was changing big time!!! Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk
  24. Wow sounds pretty scary, I mean the chest pains . I'm a little scary cat I would be freaking out. So does everyone stay that long in the hospital? That's a long time 4 days and are they sure the chest pains are from gas and won't lead to further complications. I fear all that I wonder is it worth it. I mean I want to be healthy and thinner but wonder if all that is worth being 50 or more pounds thinner? And 30 pounds that's great congrats you only need 20 more ?? What was ur starting weight? Mine is probably now 224 I'm short and small boned so when I lose weight my fear is I'm gonna look sickly. Well I hope your journey isn't too difficult. feel free stop and chat anytime and say how your doing.
  25. I think most of us feel guilt and shame, but fact of the matter is that 95% of people who lose, gain it back...plus some. I finally realized I was not in that 5% so it was either make peace with my size or surgery, (which is the one thing shown to make inroads into battling obesity). Also, it's not like you get surgery and get to do whatever you want. Trust us there is still lots of work to do, but the sleeve is a tool making the motivation and work so much easier (I'm hoping, only one week out). You can still take pride afterwards in watching what you are eating.
