    10 weeks
  2. It has been a long haul since surgery with complications and such but I think I have turned the corner. I am now holding my food and liquid down. Still feel a little nauseas but nothing like before. Not having alot of pain anymore. I actually got on the scale and have lost 4 more pounds. Thats a total of 57 pounds. Still have some work to do to get where I am suppose to be but almost there and I am HUNGRY. Just waiting for the doctor to give me the go ahead on advancing to a normal diet because I will be 6 weeks out this Wednesday.
  3. Ii was banded Jan. 30. I have lost about 25 pounds. I am the same way about being able to eat. I have noticed though, when we go out, I eat about a third of what I would eat before. Plus no bread or carbs. I am only eating Protein. I ave hit a plateau for over a week. I get my first fill on the 29th and I hope this will help.
  4. Hello everyone this is probably going to be long but really could use the input. Nov 2019 I had the gastric sleeve done. Since this I have had nothing but troubles. 10 days after surgery I was admitted due to blood in my belly and a hematoma on my spleen. They fixed that and discharged 3 days later. I have not been able to eat much more then let's say a chicken nugget(less then an ounce of anything including liquids) I got dehydrated was admitted again 29 days post op. Stayed for 12 days got a picc line with tpn since I can not eat or drink much. During this stay had endoscopy and they stretched a stricture lower part of stomach to intestines from 15mm to 25ish mm. Went home no change still not able to eat. Had another endoscopy and stretch this time my stomach was twisted and she tried stretching to 30mm but was only able to get to about 28mm. Went home still no change to eating and drinking. On the 16th of January I had another endoscopy stretch. Stomach was twisted again and was barely able to stretch it at all. I aspirated during the procedure. I woke up to them telling me to keep coughing to get it up. They observed me for 3hrs was on 4liters of oxygen at first then 2. I got up to pee with help my oxygen corrected itself. They said there was no need to keep me I only aspirated a tiny amount. They let me go home (2 hr drive home) I was freezing hole way hubby cranked up heat. Took temp when I got home and found I had a fever of 102.6 went to local er where they did xray and ct found I had developed pneumonia and I also had a pulmonary embolism. They felt I should go back to hospital where this happened and I stayed there for 6 days. 5 days of iv antibiotics and heparin for embolism then discharged on lovonox to continue for 6 months to a yr. I still have no change so now its crunch time it has been 3 months since and cant eat or drink much at all. They want to do another stretch which I would need to come off the lovanox which is putting my life at risk. Not to mention I have had it done 3 times and it has not helped. Also if it doesnt work i would need to have the bypass revision which means 2 procedures putting me at risk 2 times) Surgeon says only other option is revision to bypass(unless he sees scar tissue and can fix. But i have to agree to bypass incase there is no scar tissue or it cant be fixed) My family is up in arms it's hard either way. I dont want anymore procedures but I need to get stomach fixed and I need to get back to work. 3 months no pay we cant take this financially anymore. So for me I feel like they need to do the bypass and I hope for the best and have minimal complications. However the rest of family is worried I will have more complications than I have currently. Plus my sister had bypass and has had to have 15 different repairs(this makes them more worried) I could really use some insight on this what would you do? What do you think I should do?

    1st day back to work!

Went back to work today too! I didn't get hungry until 3pm or so...first time feeling anything remotely like hunger since the surgery 2 weeks ago. I also forgot to take my Prevacid ...it is so much easier to remember when I am at home.
  6. Thank you for all that information! I'm just concerned with taking more time to find a 2nd and 3rd opinion. I feel like 3 months of this has been too long. I will look into a phone or email consult with one or 2 of these. Fingers crossed they will get back to me thanks again for all that info!

    Disturbing Email

That's disturbing indeed! The rate of complications is readily available, and any good surgeon should talk through the possibilities with you. If one is unlucky enough to suffer from very bad complications I can understand feeling negative overall toward the surgery, but the facts are the facts - the vast majority of people don't have major issues and instead experience a range of benefits from the surgery. I'm sad for that person and what they are going through (whatever it is really; I'm not clear) but it's not cool for them to suggest to you that it's overall a bad surgery, because that's just not the truth. For me - I'm only one week out, but already feeling so very happy with it!

    Disturbing Email

I don't know if this applies to the person who emailed you - at the numerous slimming clubs that I have been to there was always one type of person. This person always said I can't loose weight no matter what I do, it's my metabolism, it's God's fault etc etc. When they stuck to the diet for the first week and lost several pounds it was a miracle. The second week they lost more pounds and suddenly their husband liked them fat and didn't want them to come anymore. What I'm getting at is some people simply won't make the commitment because they haven't got it in them. I don't know but maybe this person isn't sticking to the rules. Please don't let them distract from having a new and fantastic life.

    weight loss stall...help

Hello, FYI if you go to the search bar and type in weight loss stalls, click on the down arrow and choose forum under topic, over 1000 forum results will show up. A lot have good information and share suggestions. Everyone is different. Remember, it takes 3-4 months for you body to adjust to major surgery. Your body is still healing. That being said, this is not a miracle cure, but a tool. There will be times when the scale will not reflect weight loss, however, you body is losing inches. Be patient! Good luck in your journey.

    How about NO vitamins?!

Get the levels tested. Go for every 6 months, and then see what it is like after 3 years out. Until this year, I always had Vit A, E, some of the B's tested. I have known issues, those are the ones I keep on top of, but ones that have stayed consistently well within the normal range I don't have checked. I have several other GI issues that require the bloodwork and sometimes infusions, along with others I have certain vitamin shots, etc.

    Flu after surgery?

Echinacea has always worked for me, but check with your doctor. If you do start coming down with something be extremely mindful of dehydration. Even ‘normal’ people have a hard time staying hydrated with the flu. Because we can only take in a limited amount of Fluid at a time, we are extremely at risk. Just keep in touch with your team. Sending good thoughts your way! I caught a cold a week after surgery, the sneezing was absolutely brutal on my sore muscles.

Im 47, male. Just north of Dallas, in Prosper. I would try Dr. Stowers at My Bariactric Solution. I choose him because WLS is something he has been doing for a long time and thats all he does. Im 6 weeks out today, and I havent had any major complications and recovery is going well so far. As far has your swallowing problem, I would imagine that you pre and post diet may be more strict. Such as extended liquid phase, unless your condition is much more severe. I would give him a call.

    Run down

I ad my RNY 11 years ago with a revision 9 years ago. I had a gasto-gastric fistula. My stomach and pouch grew a hole and I was feeding my stomach. After the revision I lost 122 pounds and felt great. 3 years ago I started to have knee problems. Already had back problems and arthritis, especially in my feet. The most exercise I get is in a pool or on a Gazelle, (which is like an elliptical but not as intense). I do work part time so I'm not too much of a slug-a-bed. Anyway, the reason for this is since my knee problem started I have felt more and more run down. I have had my thyroid checked a million times as well as B-12 and D. Yes, I forget my vitamins, all too often, but still do B-12 injectables. That is usually fine. D is ALWAYS low. I've started taking Hema-Plex which has iron among others in it. I'm hoping that helps. Anybody else have these problems? I've also gained about 42 pounds back. I don't and CAN'T eat a lot of sugar but I like beer. Even though I don't drink but one or two days a week, people are always telling me it's the beer. Sometimes I feel like I can't win.
  14. Thank you so much! I didn't think about the stir-fry option. I think I'll try that. Now I am getting to the point where I can eat anything, nothing really gets stuck. So, I start with my Protein as the doctor recommended, but I am missing veggies so much. Can I ask y'all another question... ? What does your daily meal plan look like? Do you eat 3 or 4 meals a day? Snacks? liquids? I'm just trying to get a good picture. I wake up at 6:30 am with the baby and I work till 11pm at night. It's hard for me to limit myself to only 3 meals. Any suggestions? [sorry, I thought I could post any poll. I didn't realize it had to be the same subject.] D~

    getting sleeved 2/24/14 !

Good luck NSABINO! I'm in at 3 tomorrow for mine too. I'm lying in bed crying about how much I love my children. I had no idea I would be a going like this. Good luck to the nurses tomorrow who have to deal with me! Fingers crossed I will have secured my stiff upper lip by then & won't make a complete goon of myself. I wish all my fellow 24/2 sleevers all the very best of luck. See you on the other side!

    Hello all! Waiting my approval...

She said the surgeon was going to write it this week. I hate waiting. I sign the surgery paper work on the 17th. I want to know before I go away for a long weekend. I come home and have to start my pre op diet. Off this topic but do anyone know how I can find the post I started without going to each board? OR even the board I am following instead of looking for the list each time?
  17. I use a band (looks like a very large rubber band 12” long) I hold one end behind my back, right above my bottom, with the band going up my back towards my head, I pull that end straight up above over my head then relax behind my back as far as possible, I do 3 reps of 15 then switch hands and do another 3 reps of 15 you should feel the burn right where your trouble area is, if not readjust, make sure palm of hand is facing up, make sure you are standing straight, keep elbow up high as far as you can before you start, do reps nice and steady about 2 seconds apart not rabbit speed but not turtle speed either, I take my band everywhere with me, it fits in my pocket , I do one set in the a.m. and one set in the p.m. and random sets whenever possible. started these in April of last year and at that time I was barely able to get 1 rep of 15 done, now on my last sets it is still very hard and it isn’t uncommon for me to grunt like a body builder getting out those last 3 lol, also it took 3 months before I noticed any difference in appearance. Good luck bandsters hope that has helped.
  18. Good for you! The first two weeks you tend to drop a lot of water weight. Depending on your weight, they say the first 10-20 lbs is water weight. It's normal. Then it slows down to about 1-5 lbs per week. Make sure you get that protein in though, and plenty of liquids. You don't want to end up dehydrated and with your hair falling out. I, for one, was getting maybe 20 oz of water in a day (counting 2 protein shakes made with water) and started getting very dizzy and strong migraines...I was getting dehydrated really bad. I upped my water intake using lemon ice tea crystal light, because water tasted gross to me after surgery, and I began to feel better within a day.

    Day 4 Post-Op

It gets better. I had the same problem, but today (Day 7), I was able to drink 3 ounces (slowly) within 30 minutes. Good luck!

    Evolution of eating post op

I'm about 4 weeks postop and still on purred liquids and a few mushies. I'm pretty new to this obviously but I think it is very individual. Some eat right away, some are on liquids for 4 weeks. I tried mushy foods at 2.5 weeks and kept vomiting it right back up. And then, since I irritated my new tiny stomach I started vomiting liquids. I had to re-group, go back to liquids, and start all over. My doc said if I vomit or get real naseaous it is one of 3 things. Ate too fast Ate too much Introduced a food too soon. When they say stop eating at the 1st sign of fullness they were right. A few times I think I ate a few bites more and it all came back up immediately. Being a slow learner, now I take a small sip or bite, wait and see how it feels. Then try another and wait. And now I stop long before I feel full. I can always eat a little more later. The amount of mushy food I can eat is very little. A few table spoons, bite-wait. Bite-wait, can take 10+ minutes to eat. So WEIRD compared to the huge amount I used to inhale! It is so different.

    Evolution of eating post op

I'm six months out and just now got clearance for all foods. I was still on restriction for pork, beef, and 'fibrous' veggies. Every surgeon/nutritionist has a different plan. However, everything on the plan is "as tolerated." If you try a new food, eat very small bites, chew alot, and listen to your body. If your Frankensleeve doesn't like a food this week, it might next week! Take it slow as you have the rest of your (likely now LONGER) life to get back to 'regular' foods. My plan is here: http://www.360bariatrics.com/360-process/bariatric-diets/
  22. It took me like 6 - 8 months to get out of the 250s. I can't say for sure it was anything other than my behaviors, but I know that not much changed between then and when the weight started changing again. On Atkins I would sometimes stall for 6+ months, even though I remained in ketosis the entire time. ETA - those are scale reflections.

    Labor Day Challenge!

Hi Mary, I am doing surprisingly good! I'm surprising myself with my stick to it attitude! I just really want to see the difference if I actually do it for 4 weeks. I worked out Wed, Thu, Fri and Sun. On Sun I rode my bike for 2.5 miles, and it about killed me (in a good way). I can't work out on Mondays, cause work is hard and then I have Bible Study Mon night. So My 5th day this week will be tomorrow. I remember teaching the younguns to bike. It really tires you out! But you are working with a purpose, so you don't notice till it's over. Good luck to you and thanks for asking!!! (I felt like I was talking to myself) That is very therapeutic sometimes!

    Labor Day Challenge!

I guess we could talk on here everyday and say if we have worked out or not. I am going to start tomorrow. I have a gym I go to. Do you? How old are your kids? Mine are older 23, and 20. My youngest, 15, is at his dad's for the summer so I have no excuse at all except laziness. I will start with 30 minutes a day on the elliptical machine. I hope to work up to 45 minutes by the end of the 4 weeks, but we'll see!! I'm glad to have a buddy, I am looking forward to this! :tongue2:

    keeping balance on treadmill

I originally posted as RobbieNow, but my registration has had to be reset 3 times for some reason. If I was paranoid, which I am , I would say evil forces are trying to keep me out of this forum. Acadia--My treadmill does rock, I will get a piece of plywood and shim it. I wonder who decide that 3mph is a brisk walk? I am 5 feet tall; it is a flat out run for me. lol Thanks for all of the supportive messages. I am trying to work up the courage to call our new insurance company. I don't wnt to be disappointed again, but I can't plan for the future without the facts. I have just let life happen too many times, instead of directing it. Wish me luck.
