Kinda annoyed and confused
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm eating mushy foods now, and I was going over everything that was given to me, and I have NOTHING about amounts of food I can eat. No suggestions for meals, no amounts to eat, nothing. When I called my dietician on Friday, I got an email back that said "Since you had a sleeve, you can pretty much eat what you want, just in smaller amounts. Just try a lot of foods and see what you like and what your body can tolerate. And make sure you have 60-80g of protein per day, and make sure you have a very low amount of carbs, or you'll undo all of your progress." WHAT am I supposed to do with that??? I already know that!!! I need to know how often do I eat the mushy food? Is that when every 3 hours starts? How much food should I have at each meal? 2oz, 3oz, what? Do I eat actual meals every 3 hours or do I do 3 meals and 2 snacks? I'm so irritated right now. And I'm so afraid I'll eat too much and mess this all up. I had restriction when I first started mushy food, but now I can eat a to-go cup of applesauce in 1 sitting, or 2 tablespoons of hummus in 1 sitting. Is this bad? -
6 weeks out - I'm very worried - could I stretch my sleeve with this amount of food??
Arabesque replied to bestdecisionmade's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First, it takes a hell of a lot of hard work, eating excessive quantities of food over a prolonged period of time to stretch out your tummy again. You certainly won’t stretch it out in 6 weeks. Many surgeons say it’s nigh on impossible to do. So you can breath about that. You’re ok. As to quantity of food, yes your portion sizes are more than I did then & some are more than I do now. (e.g. 3-4oz protein, 1.5 eggs, 1/2 a thin pork sausage). BUT, there are lots of different plans out there with different portion size & calorie goals/ recommendations. And some can eat more. If you are following your plan you are doing fine. AND, you can only eat what you are physically able to eat without causing discomfort. Though it is odd you haven’t felt your restriction yet given you are eating solid foods. I’d check your calories though as 130g of salmon fillet alone is 222, 2 eggs are 156 & 4ozs pork sausages can be 345 calories. Of course it can depend on the size of the eggs, ingredients in the sausages, cut of chicken, etc. Though you can eat more doesn’t mean you should. Have a chat with your dietician about protein goals, portion sizes, caloric goals, etc. For example 4ozs is generally considered the recommended portion of protein an adult should eat at a meal. I wonder if you are exceeding your protein goal as a result?? Having a little more is ok but again check with your dietician. I remember my dietician questioning the size of people’s tummy post surgery. There’s a difference in removing 80% of a tummy that could hold say 3 cups of food versus 80% removed of a tummy that could hold 5 cups. The larger tummy is still going to be able to hold more. Simple maths. Congrats on the weight you have lost so far. -
I had something like this... it sort of ran across where I assume the suture line was. Didn't happen all the time, but when it did it was uncomfortable. It stopped within the first week. I found warm liquids went over better - my fave was warm bone broth!

Stomach feels bigger and more bloated than before
Arabesque replied to Brittneykdelacruz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If it’s been 7 weeks, I’d probably have a chat with your medical team. You should be fully healed by now. But in saying that, I still have days where I don’t feel as comfortable with a fitted waist & I’m 3 yrs out. Also chat with your dietician. Certain artificial sweeteners & the lactose in dairy can make you bloated (& windy if you are experiencing that too). -
My RNY is on the 24th. Was originally going to get a VSG but after an endoscopy, the doc thinks my GERD is worse on my body than the way I feel about it. Convinced me that I would probably be horrendously suffering from acid if I went with the VSG. Also going to repair my hiatal hernia and after doing a nuclear scan going to pull out my gallbladder. Wheeeee.... Started my pre-op diet on the 10th. I'm jealous of all your pre-op diets. I get two weeks of 20oz non-fat milk 3x a day. 50oz of other liquids a day - water, broth, decaf tea or coffee. On day five and it's really not all that bad. Doc's literature said this type of diet activated the body's hunger suppresant. And I'm really surprised how.... well, I am hungry, but I'm not as hungry as I would have thought. Anyway, nervous and excited at the same time. I'm sure you've all felt that same way.

Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass
shriner37 replied to Im4miracles's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve in 2015. I lost about 90 pounds from my highest weight which was still a ways from goal, but over 7 years managed to gain back about 25 pounds. Early this year my hiatal hernia worsened and because of that and GERD my surgeon told me I really needed revision to bypass. My revision surgery was three months ago. I've done well with recovery with no complications. I've lost about 33 pounds since surgery and am about 19 pounds from goal. I will say that weight loss for me has been slower with the revision, possibly because I didn't have as much to lose. The surgery did take care of my hernia and GERD issues. I have not pushed the envelope with high fat or very sweet foods to see if I have any issues with dumping, but I'm told only about 1/3 of bypass patients do. Because of the change in the way your pouch works (less stomach acid and such) I have experienced a couple issues with dry or very tough foods causing what is called frothing or 'foamies'. It's very uncomfortable but passes in an hour or so. All in all I'm glad I had the surgery. I was having significant issues from the hernia and really didn't have a choice, but it's nice to be down in a weight range I never made it to with the sleeve. -
First day of soft food
liveaboard15 replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
so i can only eat about 3-4 oz each time. at first it took me almost an hour to finish one pouch of tuna. Now 4 weeks out takes me about 20-30 minutes. I just take small bites, chew chew chew and wait a few minutes before taking another. I currently eat quail eggs instead of chicken eggs. they are smaller. Chicken egg takes me a while to eat and is basically 2 meals. I typically cook a small amount of turkey sausage, onions and 2 quail eggs. (which is what i am currently eating right now lol) (this pic was my meal from yesterday). This will take me about 45 minutes or so which sucks because it gets cold -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
ForMyOhana replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just a quick update. Been hitting the pavement and getting a lot of steps in this month. Averaging 8000 steps per day for the month of may. Still trying to drink a ton as well. I followed up last week's minus 4 with another minus 5 this week! Very excited that I found a formula that broke 3 weeks of minus 1 losses. I didn't want to put this out there at first because I felt it was too much of a brag... but I decided that some people might benefit and be motivated to change things up if they need to try to break their stall! Good luck everyone! -
Tell me why the sleeve worked for you when other diets didn't.
Spinoza replied to lizkey88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good topic. For me it's a combination of the restriction and the decreased hunger. I am still in the honeymoon period, just about 6 months after my sleeve. I have no idea how things will go for me long term but at the minute I am absolutely determined to use the tool I went to such lengths to get, and I am getting constant payback because I am losing weight. It's the speed of the loss too - I'm still consistently losing 2+ pounds a week so that's huge motivation to keep doing what I am doing. I do worry a lot about maintaining weight loss because I have never done that before. I think my chances are better this time though. -
I had the intermittent inflatable leg things the whole time I was in hospital post op (they even put them back on after I got up to walk). That was just over 24 hours. Compression stockings to thigh level PLUS injected blood thinners both for 3 weeks after my surgery. My surgeon was absolutely adamant that that was whether I was walking for miles or sitting about all day.

June surgeries? Tell me your preparations
Tatt replied to Songbyrd420's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wow we are same day surgery buddies! My surgery is also June 13th. Tbh I am a massive control freak so I am doing everything I can to control all aspects of the surgery. I am making a lot of list and watching "things I wish I knew before i had vsg surgery" videos. My daughter's birthday is the day after and I scheduling deliveries thru out the day for her as I don't know exactly when I will be home (Dr's ofc promised if at all possible I would be going home on the 14th). She is getting a small delivery for each year...considering she is a teen ..ouch lol. I am also setting up my FMLA/short term disability case for my job. I hope I don't need it but I want it in place just in case. I am planning to be out 1-3 weeks an now I know that all that time will be paid so I am not as freaked out about taking 3wks off if I need it. My friends want to help me but I have a hard time asking for help/things. So my amazing teen gave me the great idea of doing an Amazon wish list..so I have been setting that up (I still feel like I am begging for stuff). I am reading up on protein shakes and medications. Still haven't found the answer to will I gain weight when I have to go off the Phentermine/Topiramate combo, my weight loss Dr has me on, for the 2 weeks prior to surgery? But I keep looking. I really can't imagine life after surgery so I pretty much am trying to do everything I can think to do to make whatever happens after i wake up from surgery as smooth as possible. Sorry so long winded -
June 2022 surgery buddies

Hi to you and the other June buddies! I will find out my surgery date on Monday when I meet with my surgeon…I’m hoping for a date between June 8 and June 13. My pre-procedure testing was extensive and has been finished for about 3 weeks. Cigna approved me this week. I’m having gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair. I’m 5’2”, and right now I’m 213lbs. I started the liquid pre-op diet in earnest last Tuesday (the surgery coordinator said that of their patients like to start it early 🤷🏻♀️). I’m glad I started early because I have switched it up twice now and it has made it easy. When I meet with the surgeon on Monday, I’ll find out the ‘protocol’ pre-surgery diet, and go from there. Good luck to everyone AND May surgeries, please keep posting! Your stories are wonderfully encouraging and informative. -
6 weeks out - I'm very worried - could I stretch my sleeve with this amount of food??
bestdecisionmade replied to bestdecisionmade's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I guess this is what worries me... 👉 You're 14 months out and eating 3-4 ounces of meat or fish.... it sounds good and right on track 👉 I'm 6 weeks out sometimes eating 5-6 ounces of meat or fish... it sounds like my stomach is too large/I'm too greedy/I've stretched my sleeve? I feel like it's got to be at least one of these. 😕 Thanks again for your reply! -
Extended arm lift, breast lift (with replacement of implants) scheduled!
loridee11 replied to loridee11's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Thank you so much for all the great advice! I live alone so I am worried about trying to do much. I'm trying to find someone to stay for the first couple days, and my plan is to have at least a week worth of meals cooked and in the fridge. I'll also have someone come in to walk the dog for the first week or two (fortunately I have a backyard so it's just for exercise). I will move a small step stool into the kitchen and invest in a shower stool ( and probably use dry shampoo for the first couple of days at least). And yes, I'll share pictures when I get closer -
Okay so I had surgery in august 2021 and just had my iud taken out last month due to weird and irregular bleeding. My ob said if I was to fall pregnant it would be 6-9 months from now due to hormones balancing out. My period is a week late and took a pregnancy test and it’s positive .. the line is kinda faint so idk for sure but my weight also seems to have stabilized ?? I haven’t lost any weight since February im fluctuating between 180-183 weekly but that’s it. I’ve seen horror stories where people have been pregnant and their surgeon was rude about it because they weren’t a year out yet. I’m kinda afraid to tell them.. help

6 weeks out - I'm very worried - could I stretch my sleeve with this amount of food??
ShoppGirl replied to bestdecisionmade's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For fish, chicken or steak i have about 3-4 ounces and a small amount of veggies. But things like cauliflower pizza or tacos I have one slice or one taco. I can also eat almost a small burger or sandwich with thin low carb bread but nothing else with it. Salad I can eat about a half salad from most restaurants. I am trying to think of what else. I don’t eat much variety. But I am 14 months out. Your team Should have given you an amount that you should be eating at this stage. I wish I still had my paperwork but I threw it out. -
Hello, I am 6 weeks post op and have no idea what to eat. I was so nauseous for the last 2 1/2 weeks and now I'm starting from scratch. I am scared to eat anything bc I throw up so easily. I am having a very hard time with fluid intake also. Nothing tastes good, even the flavored water I drank with no problems before surgery. Any advice is appreciated!!

6 weeks out - I'm very worried - could I stretch my sleeve with this amount of food??
bestdecisionmade posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm posting this here for traffic in the hope that some of you can advise and/or reassure me. I had my VSG on the 4th April (around 6 weeks ago) I am very worried that I am eating too easily so early out. Especially as I keep reading posts about people who can barely eat a postage-stamp sized piece of ham. An example day this week was: Breakfast - 1 x protein yoghurt pot (100 calories) Snack - 2 hard-boiled eggs (120 calories) Lunch - 100g / 4oz of pork sausages and vegetables (250 calories) Snack - 50g / 1oz of chicken pieces (150 calories) Dinner - 130g / 4.5oz of salmon fillet and creamed spinach (200 calories) TOTAL 820 calories I didn't feel any real restriction; I could easily have carried on, but I made myself stop. I'm pleased with the protein, but is 820 calories too much at this stage? Could I stretch my sleeve with this? Or could my sleeve be too "baggy"? For reference, in just under 6 weeks, I've lost 26lb. I wondered if my height could affect my stomach capacity? I am a 6ft female with an Amazonian frame, so maybe my tummy is bigger or longer than average to begin with? Thank you for any replies!!! -
dang lol. So where i got my surgery you h ave to get a covid test 4 days prior at your pre anesthesia appointment. But because i had covid about a month and a half prior i was not required to since you get test positive for up to 3 months after. When i got the hospital for my surgery, IV put in, Medications given a nurse comes in and ask "Did you get your covid test" and i was like no. She was like we cant do the surgery. I was like BULLSHIZZZZ... and showed her my positive test from February and then she chilled and left lmao.

4 Days Post Op
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Kmack2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this issue for the first 3 or 4 days after surgery. I found it was because I was drinking cold fluids and my stomach just couldn't handle it. I switched to warm broth and room temp fluids and that fixed it. But I also had to watch how much I drank. I had to take very small sips the first 4 or 5 days and just do them more often until my stomach started to calm down. Now, at 11 days post op, I can literally drink warm or cold fluids and I can drink larger amounts more often with no issues. Some stomachs are just very sensitive after surgery (like mine) and it takes a bit longer to calm down, but it'll happen. -
Exactly 1 week post-op
BariBlonde replied to BariBlonde's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m so sorry you’ve experienced this too! It’s truly awful! Today is day 3 and I’m sad to say no relief in sight. I cannot even walk without starting to sweat and borderline cry. And I have a high pain tolerance - several of my doctors have even referred to me as stoic during a few minor in-office procedures. In any event, I’m just trying to march in place to get some movement in. It sounds as though you’re “on the other side” of this nightmare and I’m genuinely happy for you. xx -
I had surgery on May 2nd. Anytime I drank or moved, my stomach was roiling with acid and gas. I called it my witch's cauldron. I was concerned as I saw so many that didn't seem to have this issue after surgery. Once I got to week 2 with full liquids (yogurt, protein shakes, etc.) and I could consume more items of substance, this improved greatly and is now not an issue. Hopefully yours will improve too.

Extended arm lift, breast lift (with replacement of implants) scheduled!
ms.sss replied to loridee11's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
So had an arm lift, breast lift and tummy tuck in one shot. Specifically speaking to the arm and breast lift recovery, some tips based on MY experience: 1) it gets ITCHY. I found that wearing the compression stuff (tighter the better) helped to minimize (or eliminate) the itch. 2) when cleared for showers, bring a little stool to sit on to wash your hair. I found it painful (and exhausting!) to try to get my arms up/lower my head to lather up. I actually had Mr. come in the shower with me the first couple times cuz the effort of doing it myself made me feel woozy. 3) speaking of stools, i had one in the kitchen to reach stuff in the cupboards. Reaching hurt! 4) Don’t be a hero. If it hurts, take your pain meds. And keep in mind pain meds constipate you, so ensure you are taking whatever you need to keep regular. I was constipated for a mind-numbing 13 days. *shudder*. I had not-so-fondly referred to these dark days as “Poop Watch 2019”. And when i finally went, it was not the greatest experience *double shudder* 5) Listen to your doc regarding going back to normal activities. I didn’t, and i busted open many a stitches and basically extended my healing time by a couple of MONTHS. 6) speaking of busting open stitches, the areas that kept opening up (all my own fault) where (a) the T-junction where the incisions met up of the underboob and the the vertical line going down from the nipple. (b) the armpit and (c) the side boob incision on the flanks. I suspect because these areas got the most movement and rubbing (and again because i was doing too much too soon) 7) silicone tape is your friend. Not only does it help to heal scars, but it also helps to keep the itch at bay. With all all that said, i would do it all again in a heartbeat (making better choices about moving of course) cuz i am thoroughly pleased with the results. Unexpectedly, my breast lift results became my fave of the 3 i got (and it was initially not high priority on my list). The ability to go bra-less and still remain perky AND comfortable was a need i never knew i had until afterwards lolozzz. Good luck! Cant wait to see ur results (if u are willing to share) ❤️
