    2 days post-op

Nikki, I'm glad you are doing well! Just get plenty of rest and take it easy. Congratulations on your weight loss! Good luck to you and let me know if you have any questions.
  2. Hey ladies gm. Just wanted to share a great fine. I know we're all on here losing weight and excited about getting into clothes that we only dreamt of wearing. It can get very expensive as we go from different sizes and tryingto find room in our closet for clothes that we no longer wear and have to decide what to do with those clothes. If youre like me, your closet probably have 3 to 4 different sizes in it. But ive found a Gem that will allow us to wear the clothes we want to, while not digging a large hole in our bank account. Its called Gwynnie bee.com. It allows you to look at all the looks with clothes that theyve put together and theyll send you the clothes. You can wear them as long as yount to, send them back and theyll send you more clothes thats in your rack, or you can keep them. I didnt want to have a closet full of 3x clothes, so i tried this out. So gwynnie bee allows you to have that dreamy wardrobe at a low price. The price depends on the looks that you want to try.

    Not losing weight

I'm 4 weeks post RNY today. As above if unsure ask your dietitian or doctor, but some ideas: I'd say log your food and fluid intake to make sure you're taking in enough fluid and so that you know what your calorie intake is. My dietitian told me about a patient who had complained he wasn't losing weight during the liquid part of the diet and when she delved into it, he was liquidising mars bars. I doubt you're doing this but always worth recording your intake I'd say? I've always been told by doctors that building muscle can add weight (or mean that you don't lose weight), so maybe your exercise regime is building muscle at the expense of a weight loss? I haven't experienced a stall (yet!) but many people say they do have this at about 3 weeks? Only other things I can think of would be constipation or fluid retention? Good luck!

    I Need Help?!

Hi Ricky, You're right, you do have a lot of questions! I think you'll find a lot of answers if you read through some old threads here and on other bandster boards (SmartBandsters on Yahoo Groups is one of my favorites). To get you started, though: You ask if this will work for you. Only you can decide that. From where I sit, banding is a great idea for people who are morbidly overweight (you probably qualify on that score) and who have been unable to get control of their weight through diet and exercise. It's not a picnic, of course, and you have to be prepared to say goodbye to eating the way you're used to. It's by no means a magic potion and if you try hard enough to get around it you could manage to not lose weight. The band is not "unsafe" for anyone. Indeed, as a diabetic you stand to improve your health a great deal by losing weight. Your condition makes you more of a candidate for the band, not less. You ask if Cigna covers the band. Again, this is specific to your policy, your company, your medical condition, and your state. Cigna, like most carriers, is not making it easy to qualify for major elective surgery, but if you are persistent and meet the medical criteria they do pay for weight-loss surgery. The cost of the procedure varies from place to place. In the U.S. it's probably a minimum of $30,000 when you add in the hospital costs and everything. You can get it done in Mexico or Europe for about a third of that. The place to start is where you are, here. Then visit your primary care physician and make sure you get a diagnosis of Morbid Obesity (the diagnosis code is 278.01 and the sooner that gets into your medical records the more likely insurance will pay for the surgery). Once you get the diagnosis, get a referral from your PCP to a surgeon who performs the procedure. Even if you don't need a referral, get you PCP to put in your file a letter saying he believes weight-loss surgery is indicated for you. This is the first building block in your file of information that you will eventually present to Cigna. Stick around the board and ask questions, you'll find we're all pretty friendly!

    Pre-Surgery Diet

I've started my pre-surgery diet a wee bit early. I'm supposed to start it 3 weeks prior, but I've started it about 6 weeks early. I've lost 12 pounds so far and I feel great! I'm a bit hungry, but that's okay. Nothing tastes as good as thin feels, right?! My pre-surgery diet, from my nutritionist, is a Slim Fast shake for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine for lunch and a Lean Cuisine for dinner (or variations on that theme). I can have Jell-O pudding (low/no sugar) and low-fat yogurt as a snack. Plus I have a no sugar fruit popsicle for dessert. I'm drinking a TON of water and Crystal Light Iced Tea every day. I'm constantly in the bathroom, but that's okay. I get a lot of exercise getting up from my desk and walking down the hall. I'm eating apples and bananas too and every now and then I eat a salad (with regular dressing - gasp/horror!). I can't go completely off the deep end! LOL Basically, I've stopped drinking diet soda and eating out. I'm limiting my carbs (no bread, rice, potatoes, tortilla's) and cheese intake (sigh - I miss cheese). My goal is to lose 10-15 pounds before my May 13th surgery (found out today at my pre-anestesia appointment that my surgery was bumped up by two days! I'm at 300 now (ugh), but the realization that soon I'll have a "2" as my starting number of my weight has me giddy. The other realization is that I'll never, ever be over 300 lbs again. Oh my god...I could cry. I am so happy.
  6. Did anyone else see the news about lap-band being approved for lower BMI patients? Here is a link to one of the articles: http://www.stltoday.com/news/national/bf0ef1ec-62b7-5f8e-adec-5151c1de71b5.html I suppose it is good that BMI requirements are coming down for some weight loss surgery, but as a lap-band revision hopeful, I am really concerned about how the news media is covering all this. The article says there are only 2 weight loss surgery options: lap band and gastric bypass. I don't know, with all the lap-band billboards and this news coverage, I am really frustrated that there isn't more real information out there. I am so glad this board is here - it has given me hope of a better option. Have a great weekend, everybody!

any west Texas sleevers out there?

I'm from Memphis. Surgery date 11/22, Dr. Virgina Weaver, St. Francis Center for Surgical Weight Loss.
  8. I was sleeved on April 23,14. I fell into a slump after surgery. got majorly got depressed in the hospital and I was only there 1 night. I can just start crying at the drop of a hat. Then went home and started having urinary retention issues and then one of the incision sites broke open a little bit. I am off all the narc pain meds and nausea med that they give. However I am always so tired and feel like I can sleep the days away. I have been also having a hard time making sure I am getting my Protein and other liquids in. Has anyone else ever went through this?

    Question

I posted thisin the general section, but have gotten no replies so far, so I thought I would post it here... I have a question about the 6 month medically supervised diet. I just went to my PCP this week and he is supportive of my decision to get the lap band, so I am beginning the 6 month diet. I really would like to lose some weight before the surgery and I am motivated to try and stick to a diet. I am 5'2 and weigh 277, so I have room to lose quite a bit and still be over the required BMI. My question is--say I lose 40 pounds. Will my insurance company deny me because I have proven that I CAN lose weight? Of course, I can lose weight, but keeping it off is a whole other problem!

    First fill tomorrow

A month after surgery, and I'm getting my first fill. It's been a tough two weeks because I experience no restriction whatever and after 26 days of liquids and mushies, I have been working hard not to eat everything in sight. I did pretty well, not great, no loss but no gain except maybe a pound. So what do you think I should expect? A small fill or a big one? My doc is Fielding in New York, he's doing the fill; will he go tight or start loose?
  11. Hello everyone. I had written in about a month ago and was just so depressed because I found out that my employer opted NOT to cover weight loss surgery in their plan. After taking the advice of the PA at my doctors office, I went to my HR at work. I told her my story and she put me in touch with the broker who signed my work up for the benefits. To make a long story short, they removed the exclusion and now all employees that want this surgery can get it if deemed medically necessary! My paperwork was submitted one week ago and here I am with an approval code and waiting for a surgery date. I just wanted to let you all know that even if you hit a bump in the road, sometimes it can work out so don't give up. I honestly never saw anything go so fast and I wonder if this could fall under a discrimination area? It was just so fast and everyone worked so hard that it makes me wonder. Doesn't matter because I have my code so I will keep you all updated on my progress. God Bless

    1St Checkup Since Surgery

had my first post-op visit yesterday also. I was sleeved on 9/24--highest preop 345 weight day of surgery 323 (after two weeks of full liguids)--weight yesterday 313. I am down 32 lbs total and 23 lbs since began prep for surgery. Why am I disappointed? Has anyone else experienced this?
  13. I'm living it right now!! I'm doing everything right and nothing!! It's like my body wants to stay at a certain weight. Ugh
  14. I"m not sure if this is at all true,, but it helps me to think about weight loss this way some - so heard goes. My sister who lost 200+ lbs about eight years ago told me this per her TCM/MD doctor. She said that it's as if our fat cells hold body memories and emotions, just like we know the hormonal influence fat or gain loss has, it's like this for hard memories, and losing these old pounds of fat it's like we're processing the emotions from those memories as we lose them. I realize it's totally unverifiable by traditional medical standards, but when I think of it that way, it helps me let go of some of my bizarro feelings and sadness that I go through losing these days. Good luck to you, and I hope you're feeling much better soon and back to a more even keel. If not, please talk to someone who's a pro, okay?!
  15. Is it possible to lose weight too fast after bypass surgery? My weight was 300, surgery weight was 282 and I had surgery the 26th of Oct., my weight this morning was 253. I'm not complaining, I'm just worried that it's too fast and all of a sudden boom it will stop.
  16. I’ve had my lap band since 2004 and while I’ve had my fair share of difficulties, I am absolutely sure I could not survive with out it. I’m hoping others here can relate because it’s exhausting to try to explain to the well meaning family and friends who see me struggling and suggest I “just have the band removed”. I am definitely on the tight end after my last adjustment but am so desperate to lose weight that I’ve been trying to make it work. However now I am on vacation and having debilitating lower stomach pains and nausea after eating or drinking. This has been happening off and on for a couple of months but the last few days have been agony. It doesn’t feel band related to me and whenever I have a stomach issue without an obvious cause, the doctor usually tends to blame the band - even though I’ve had a history of stomach problems since childhood. Anyway, I am extremely concerned these are symptoms of an ulcer and/or that the band has slipped from retching so forcefully. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I’m feeling very overwhelmed and alone so any advice or information would be so very helpful! Also if anyone happens to have a recommendation for any resources near Fort Myers FL just in case that would be great! Thanks so much in advance! Wishing all a happy and healthy new year!

    Self-Pay Insecurities

Why would you think that there is a high chance of having future issues that would result in additional surgeries? Yes, there is a chance, but it isn't high. Unless you know you are bad about following instructions and don't think you can follow the recommended way of eating (and cutting out the things your doctor says to, like mine did with carbonated beverages). Double check with your insurance company. While many won't cover the surgery itself, they often cover complications from it. I am self pay and I decided that if something does happen, I will deal with it then. But for now, I'm taking control of my weight and the $15k I spent is a worthwhile investment in myself. Good luck with your decisions.
  18. I am 6 weeks post op. My weight loss has slowed to one pound per week for the last 4 weeks. My doctor suggested I may be carb sensitive. Has anyone else had this mentioned?

At Risk for Erosion or Slipping?

everytime i had an issue with certain foods, feeling too tight - i've had an unfill. funny thing each time i've done that, while i have eaten more - i also started back losing weight. are you not able to get a flouro test? you really can't tell if there is a problem w/out a diagnostic test of some kind. describing your restriction can't determine any issues - i'd push your dr to have some tests done, if a slight unfill doesn't help.....my opinion. good luck!

At Risk for Erosion or Slipping?

Well, he determines that I'm not too tight due to my report of my "good days". He declares that if I were "too tight", there would be no good days...or...he says most all meals would be a struggle. The PB's are not from being full. They are immediate and right at the beginning of my meals. Any that have happened in the middle of my meals have been my fault. I have modified my patterns and fixed those. I no longer PB in the middle of eating, nor do I PB from being too full. That happened once and I learned a big lesson. My bites used to be the size of a dime. Doc said he figured THAT was the reason for my PB's. He said "change that. Nothing bigger than a kernel of corn." So, I changed it. Now my bites are the size of a kernel of corn when I eat food that has to be chewed. So it's not my bites. Sometimes I'll think it's a certain food, but then other times that food will go down just find. My band is *the* most tempermental band I've ever known. My banded friends don't even understand what is up with my band. Yes, I've talked about all this with my doc. He doesn't do anything about it. He has never made it seem like my PB's are a big deal at all. I'm more concerned than he is. I'll just wait it out, see what happens, and I'll make an appointment to go in if it continues in a month or so. Otherwise, I really don't want an unfill because there are days when there is virtually no restriction. Wouldn't an unfill make those days more frequent, thereby hindering my weight loss efforts and successes thus far? This is my biggest fear. I like how my band feels most days. This week, I've only PB'd once!!! Woo hoo! That's a record for me. So maybe it was just a good week, or maybe I did something better that I totally was unaware of. I just don't know.

    Livershrink diet

I lost 15 pounds on my liver-shrink, did it the entire month of August, knew my surgeon found NASH when he examined me in mid-July so I commuted myself to shrink it down. For each week you liver shrink it decreases 2.4% in size so mine decreased between 12 and 15%, and it made it easier for Dr Needleman and less pain for me post-surgery. And I was very proud of ME that I could do it. And you will have your own Pride Moments on your journey, remember not to always judge yours by others, we each make our own kind of 🎶 in weight loss, and it is the Right Song for Each of Us!👈😛👉

Happy New Year's to you, JQ! My resolution is to add some activity to my day. I know I am more active in general due to my weight loss, but I want to do more planned physical activity. I have freeweights, I have more time, so now it's just doing it!

  25. Well said...I am 5 months out and already If I start slacking I dont lose a lick...and start gaining...its definitly not an easy way out..I read all about that before surgery but still in the back of my mind I thought it would be easier...it definitly is helping me more than if I didnt have it . I dont think you really know until you have it done for yourself and expeience it...plus everyone is different with this band...that has always been strange to me....defnitly still a challenge but a good one!
