I started running about 3 weeks after surgery, if I remember right. Albeit, a slow run, lol, since I needed to get into shape. I was however, walking, immediately. The day after surgery I was out walking around and getting moving. I was paranoid to do any ab work for a long long time. This irrational fear, more than likely, that my port was going to pop out. I don't think I did sit ups or crunches for a good 5-6 months after surgery.

Surgery 1 week away-feelings?
jaejae79 replied to changingforme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm super excited. Only my husband knows at this point and my family will know after. Ready to start over. I started my two week pre op diet last Monday (surgery 8/16) and after a week I'm down 7lbs and feeling good. Can't wait to start tracking more losses! I'm not particularly worried about the surgery- The only thing I'm worried about is my short term disability kicking in on time. -
driving home right after surgery.
Shear Diva replied to Angi281's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NO you will not be able to drive yourself home, you'll still be on pain meds. My stay was 2 days with no complications. BTW I'm almost 3 weeks post op. I'm so sorry you don't have support from your family & friends! I joined this site about 4 days ago & I've seen the love everyone gives to one another so I think you have come to the right place! What I can say is, if you have made your mind up please don't let transportation stop you!! Take a taxi!! Heck if your in my city Concord NC or close by I'll be more than happy to drive you there and pick you up!! -
6 Weeks Out and 25 pounds gone. Normal?
tekjr1 replied to tekjr1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not real worried. And I guess I should not complain because I did not have a 3 week stall. Maybe this is it, regardless, I know if I continue my healthy habits I will continue to progress towards better health. I try to weigh myself twice a week. I will weigh again on Friday and I bet I'm back from where I started. -
No "Steve Harvey" this time..
sassyfrass23 replied to sassyfrass23's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@Dmjohr thank you! I was having a hard time believing that it would happen, but boy am I grateful! No date yet. I will have to finish out my 6 month "wait" which started from the time I first inquired about my benefits. So that puts me at having an April date. I would have preferred March but this will do no complaints from me! I will post my date as soon as I get it! I go see Dr. Nguyen again next week so I should receive a date then -
My stuff was submitted to BCBS Texas on Friday. I have been told it will be 1 to 2 weeks before they even look at it. My doctor's office basically said don't bug us again because they can't do anything else until they get approval from insurance. I think I will wait about a week and then contact BCBS and see where they are. After approval I have no idea how long it will be until surgery is scheduled. I understand the office staff doesn't want people bugging them all the time but I wish they would give a guesstimated timeline. So I guess we are in the same boat, waiting, waiting, waiting........

I am 3 weeks post op. Everything has been going well for the most part. Ever since the day after surgery, I have had mild back pain but tonight at work I had the worst pain I have ever had. I am experiencing pain in the middle of my back and also in my chest. I do not have my gall bladder, had it removed many years ago. The pain in my chest is like almost like I am short of breath at times. I am just wondering what this could be. I wonder if between the hospital bed and my own bed if I could have thrown something out in my back and just need an adjustment by my chiropractor or if it could be something more. If it is something as simple as needing an adjustment, how soon after surgery would you recommend going to the chiropractor. I just don't want anything to happen to my stitches or incisions.

decaf black coffee allowed Post op?
Rootman replied to AMLP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what to recommend but here's my story: I was about 6 weeks out and the weather was bitterly cold and I just wanted to warm my innards up. I took half a cup of decaf with a little non dairy creamer and a packet of sweetener. It felt good but tasted like crap after the first couple of sips - seems like all my food hits me that way, good for a few bites and BLAH the rest. I drank maybe half the half cup and poured the rest out. Did this 3 days in a row, Seems to be no ill effects other than burping up coffee stink in my breath YECH! -
Yeah, I know they are normal, but it makes me so angry that I stall for a third time in 2 months. My surgery was on 8/12 and I barely lost 40lbs since then.. I saw people here losing 90... Ugh, ROAR!

Hi everyone! Hope all is well. I was wondering if there were any Bypass vets out there who's highest weight was the in the 400's. Mine was 437LB and I just want to know how much weight have you lost and about how long did it take you to lost it after surgery? Im curious because I am 3 weeks out and have only lost 5LBS. But I am not eating hardly anything. So just curious. Thanks.

Vent..complain..self pity perhaps
Charlie75 replied to abs6angels's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 4 weeks post op and I think my biggest issue is not enjoying the prep that goes into cooking. So I'm often looking for pre-mede meals. I also need to do better at calorie counting. Tedious.... HW: 265 SW: 250 CW: 222 -
Hampton Roads and Tricare Prime
BandedBrother replied to keamreeves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm about three steps behind Happy2BMe in the process. And in reality still not completely decieded if I'll do it. There are significant lifestyle changes that will need to be implemented and I'm slowly processing their impact. This site has been an excellent source of info though so I'd recommend reading and looking to see if some of your questions have been asked by others. For me a part of this is about being preventative. I weigh 265, take 3 meds and use a CPAP. I've wreastled with my weight throughout my 21 yrs of service (only once did they catch me and put me on the "Fatboy" program  though). Though I'm confident I can drop weight I creeps back, and gets higher. My hope is the band may aid in being a "stop gap" when life breaks up my fitness regimen--which is normally when the pounds return. If there is a theme I've gleemed from reading various post is the band is a tool, not an end in itself. Hope this helps! -
I also have different levels of restriction depending on the day... but usually for only about a week after my fill. My NP said that it's the saline "settling" into the band, and my stomach getting used to the restriction. She said that it could take up to 2 weeks for everything to settle down and be normal after a fill. If you're experiencing problems outside of this timeframe, I would certainly go see your doctor to talk about it. Phlphan -- I would keep your appointment, even if you don't get a fill, just so you can air your concerns, and see what they say. Best of luck to you all!

Heart valve issues anyone?
OutdoorsGirl replied to liveaboard15's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have AFIB and was able to have surgery. After the surgery, my heart rate was really high and my regular medications weren’t working. I ended up in the hospital an extra week until they were able to get the rate under control with more medications. The cardiologist will sign off on the surgery if it will benefit your condition. Weight reduction should also make heart procedures safer if you need to have them in the future. I’m seeing a heart specialist next month and expect that I’ll need to have a procedure to get my heart rhythm back to normal. Hopefully January will be a good month for weight loss. Good luck to you. -
7 weeks Post OP ~ Vacation
CheckYes replied to isabella2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll need to follow your surgeons meal plan. They vary so much that no one can really predict what stage you might be on. I would suspect most regular foods would be ok by that point. Most people get their first fill six to eight weeks after surgery so you might want to really consider that. You may find, after surgery, that you are not as invested in what you will be eating in July as you are now. I lost my appetite completely and now eat for fuel rather than enjoyment. -
I've gone through the same thing and I'm still loosing. I started adding more raw veg and fruit to my diet. Walking at least 3x a week.

I have to take my lunch to work each day and can get tired of cold tuna or chicken salad. My friend told me about this and I bought it and now have one at work. It's called a Redi Set Xpress. I saw it on a cheesy infomercial and bought one. Now they sell it at walmart and target, so I might go buy one for the house. It's great for not only reheating leftovers, but you can also use it to make "grilled" chicken, beef, steaks, etc. it also claims you can make little cakes in it, but I haven't gotten that far. I've reheated steak, chicken, shrimp, tilapia, and pork loin in it. It warms it up fine and doesn't dry or toughen it up. I had a filet of tilapia that was breaded...used my little gadget and got it warm and still somewhat crunchy without it getting soggy like it would in the microwave. I've also used it to "heat" up a wrap of flatbread, ham and cheese. Hot and toasty and delicious!!! I think I paid about $50 when I got it online. Well worth the price for allowing me to eat leftovers without worrying if it will dry it out or toughen it up. I plan on trying it to make a fillet of tilapia and a chicken breast this week. Haven't done that before, so far I've only used it to heat or reheat. If anyone out there has used it or has feedback, let me know. Kristi Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

Wow. I'm a week out as well and I take take a few large sips which I thought was alot. Do you take a sip every minute or so or is it easier than that?

I'm looking at late march early April, too. I haven't been approved yet, but I have two weeks till my last diet documentation. Then two weeks for approval. Then schedule..so, march is the earliest but I also have to get my work schedule to accomodate me, too. And I'm not sure how it will go because I haven't told anyone yet. I would LOVE for it to be march 12, but I think that might be cutting it pretty close.

I'm on "full liquids" on the other side - for three more days! The difference on the post-op side is that your hunger has dissipated, making it easier to avoid those fast food commercials and your boyfriend chowing down on chicken nuggets next to you (oh...that was me tonight). There is a greater purpose for all of this, and we chose to do it! Stay strong, woman - YOU ARE WORTH IT! P.S. Post-op? Protein shakes are still no fun to get down. But, you do it. Cuz your NUT said so.

I think you have to take some advice from another support group. "Just take one day a time" Break it down even farther if you have to do it to make it through it. Don't look at the big picture. And "if" you have a slip up, don't beat yourself up about it. Put it behind you and go on with the plan. And, definitely, give yourself a reward before you go in for surgery. NOT a food reward, put maybe a pedicure, a new shirt that is one size smaller than what you wear now, a massage, something that will give this all meaning. Just like a real job where you get a paycheck at the end of the week, pay yourself for working hard and getting through this phase. You can choose to control what you eat or continue to let food control you!

Fallen off the wagon and can't seem to get up
hrhlaurie replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's no way around it, it sucks. You got the sleeve and your post-operative results were dismal. I'd be mad, sad and on my dieticians doorstep demanding help. Our little sleeve is an amazing tool but only you know what you're feeding it. I'm avoiding all carbs since my body will more readilyburn fat if it doesn't have carbs as fuel. Keep them as low as possible, substitute a Protein shake for one meal and eat mostly lean protein. Get back to basics and you'll kick-start your weight loss again. During my next stall I'm going to need very similar encouragement. Hard to see the forest for the trees when we are so invested in this process so objectivity goes right out the window! Hang in there and keep trying! -

Seems as though my capacity is DECREASING?
NurseGrace posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I really try not to be fixated on food but I have noticed something these past two weeks or so. It seems like I can eat less, instead of the slight increase I expected. I'm fine with that, I'm getting plenty of calories as it is and fluids don't seem to be an issue so its fine but I just feel like its strange. When I started on solid foods I was getting about 4-6 ounces down pretty easily but now, a little more than 90 days out I'm having to push a little to get in 3 ounces. I don't think anything as changed as far as my chewing habits. I'm not sure if this is really a problem or not. Anyone experience that?
