HEALTHY Vegan/Vegetarian Recipe Swap and Pics!
OmaJ replied to Newme17's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Looks delicioso! Can I ask, did you ever have difficulty digesting Kale? Also, how far out from surgery did you wait to try it, or do you recommend? I had issues with it when I had the Lapband (prior to my recent Lapband revision with Gastric bypass). -

Lapband/ Revision/ Gastric Sleeve?
carbgrl posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Anyone pay out-of-pocket for the lapband and later get insurance to pay for revision? I paid for lapband out of pocket now, gained weight back. I'm considering sleeve but can't afford to pay out of pocket again. I paid out of pocket for the lap band because I didn't want to jump through all the hoops for insurance. Anyone else with a similar situation? -
Why is it that we can no longer for the rest of our lives drink carbonated drinks or carbonated water like Perrier?
Jodi1980 replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@apositivelife4me I am the prime example of why not to drink carbonated beverages! That along with other factors (had my son and switched on different medication) contributed to my stretching out my sleeve and now here I am getting a revision in 2 weeks. I would not recommend it for the better part of a couple of years post op if ever. It's not worth it! -

I think I missed Want2BMeAgain ... I've asked on the floor but no one seems to know who I am talking about so perhaps I missed her? There are 2 other women here today - one for a sleeve from Alaska and one for a revision -- they had not heard about VST ... they have now! Have also met Soon2BSkinny - she was up walking around this morning when we got here. She seems to be doing well. I think it's great to get to know people from here! -
Calling all (TGVP) people!!! new procedure
DrWatkins replied to joyfuljoy's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Indeed the sutures (stitches) we use are third generation synthetic silk sutures (Ethibond) and they do create a reaction which is stronger than the stitch alone which is a good thing. They are reversible, however, because you can separate them surgically. We know this because we do it all the time with band revisions. We use the same suture the same way with band surgery and we have the luxury of knowing what these look like many years later and we know that we can reverse them because we do it all the time during band revisions. The simple answer is that it is indeed reversible. The more complex answer is that it would take a surgery to reverse it and it would be a process to separate each suture and the reaction around it. I think it is also important to note that patients who have weight loss surgery do not want it reversed! The reality is that it is quite the opposite - patients would never consider having it reversed. It is comforting, though, to know that if you ever wanted or needed your entire stomach, it is still there and still functioning normally - it's just smaller so that you can lose weight without feeling deprived or starved. HI, Add me to his list of happy sleevers. He did my revision about 4.5 months ago. I understand it is different for everyone but this was easier on me than my band surgery. Self paid in Florida for my band and self paid for the revision with Dr Aceves. Was very tired of puking with the band and all the side problems I had with my band. We do have insurance just doesn't cover WLS. Decided to email Dr Aceves and within 10 days had surgery. Flew out from Florida and back within the 4 days with NO problems. My husband did go with me. Currently living in Maui and have lost about 60% to my goal. IMHO, he is the best revision surgeon for me. I also love Dr Campos who works with him. Good Luck on whatever you decide.

Thank you ALL of you for answering my questions. I will be private pay (I guess like everyone who gets Plication). Do any of you know how many Plications Dr.Watkins has done and what package he charges? It looks like Dr. Corvala has done over 50. Those are the two Drs that I am considering the most right now. I have started reading your Fat Woman On A Mission Blog and I think it's great! Any and all of you, I would eat up any info you can your experiences with Hospitals/Drs. Whoever it was that had a bad vibe from one particular Dr, can you please PM me and tell me who and why? I have never had surgery before so I want to try to anlyze best I can. I live in the South, and there is a Dr. in FL that I think does it, but I want to go to someone with a few surgeries under their belt. Has anyone had shoulder pain from the gas they put in your stomach? Just curious. Also did most of you go see your regular Dr. for a physical first? I am think that might not hurt. I am loving the fact that you all seem to be staying full! I wouldn't be suprised if any one of you get a call from Oprah or one of the Doctor shows.. to me, this surgery is wonderful! For any newbies.. I think I found the IRAN orgination.. Sending good vibes your way! I’m sure you will get out of your funk. Best wishes for a smooth revision and a speedy recovery -
Hi everyone! Had RNY in March of 2004 at 239 lbs. At one year anniversary weighed in at 128, weight loss of 111 lbs, and looked very sick. Eventually came up 12 lbs, leveled off and at 140 was soo happy. Maintained for a while and over the past 2yrs I've gained 32 lbs and now weigh 172!!! I go to the gym 3-4 x wk and joined Weight Watchers Points Plus. Lost 6, then it came back. I can't seem to get it off and very discouraged. Has anyone heard of the 5 Day Pouch Test? I started it today. I just can't go back to my old self. Very down. Anyone have any suggestions? My surgeon retired and I found that no other dr wanted to follow his work, why, I don't know yet. Finally got an approval to be seen by the new dr's at my hospital and going in after our family vacations next month. I've been trying to refamiliarize myself with the rules, do's and dont's and can see where I've strayed. So glad I found this forum. Really could use some inspiration. I've also been reading on revisions, a shot that will make your pouch tighter, etc... Any help would be so very much appreciated. Thanks!

JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP
Jeannette Anndaisia replied to SMED0308's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Everyone! I hope I can count as a July Sleever. I had my surgery on June 30. The hardest part so far was the fact that my cousin's birthday party was June 29th and I could not eat anything. I still can't believe I did it. I was a band revision to sleeve. I started at 355 (my highest weight was 391). I am down 30 lbs since surgery. Unbelievable! Funny thing is, I am not hungry. This is very strange for me. I eat because I know I have to and when I feel weak. I am working through this mentally. I am still attracted to food, the sight, and smell. However, I do not crave it anymore. It is as if my mind has already adjusted to the fact that I do not have the same stomach volume as before. This is so great that it's almost scary. Scary because this can really work! If I do what I am supposed to do, and learn to have a different relationship with food, I can have a normal body weight. Finally! Thank God! -
Not to be dense, but by revision for $4000, you mean revising to gastric bypass? From all your posts, I really get the feeling it isn't a good choice for you. You sound really against it. How much will it cost for them to reposition the band, or is that an option? There are some people on here (KarenB for one) who converted to RNY. Maybe you should PM them. Do you have a 4cc band or a 10cc? Maybe a different band would work better for your anatomy. Did your doctor discuss that at all? Have you had any other tests to rule out a medical reason for you having trouble losing weight? Like thyroid, etc.? Sorry if I ask alot of questions. I've just been thinking about you alot and trying my best to put myself in your shoes. Are you still exercising and watching what you eat? I think you need to go get a 90 minute massage like Barb! Then you'll be more relaxed and be better able to make a clear-headed decision. I'm pulling for your success!!

So, he recommends revision to RnY? It is so hard to say what I would do. If you decided to have the band because it is less invasive than RnY and you still feel that way, then have your band repositioned. If you are just anxious to get the pounds off, go for the RnY. Is your insurance going to cover it either way? I can say from my own experience that after they repositioned my band after my slip, it made a big difference. I think mine was in a bad spot and that is why I struggled in the first few months so much. I'm really sorry that your band journey has been a struggle. Just know the June Crew is behind your decision 100%. Hugs!

Panniculectomy appeal success!
PrtyAntOvrYt replied to SkinnyKathy's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Actually, my surgeon says he'll do an extended tummy tuck for me. But he says that I'll need a revision after I get to goal. I am okay with that. In my mind, it's just to get the lower stomach removed. I'm also having my arms done. My arms are over 30 inches around. The more I lose, the bigger they get from the hanging skin. My insurance absolutely will not cover anything plastic surgery related, regardless if I have horrible rashes and severe backaches. I have tried, but there is no way. I found a surgeon who will do both my extended TT and my brachioplasty for less than $9K. I have several friends who have had plastics in the last couple of months and what you describe is what they are dealing with too. Severe swelling is very normal up to months and months post-op. I bet you will be much happier with your results after all your swelling is gone. Here is my email address: Sljjsd@yahoo.com. I am willing to send you my before pics when I take them. Thanks Kathy!!! take care, dee~ -
Chrissy, I accepted your friend request at verticalsleevetalk. Start reading over there and you'll find lots of good information. Put the word "revision" into the search box and you'll find banders that had to be revised to sleeve because of malfunction etc. I think it's good information to have when making your decision.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
phyllser replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! Well, bored and on the couch in my jammies since I can't seem to shake this crud I picked up when I flew home to WA for a few days a couple of weeks ago. People are always needing help with their tickers and it's hard to find that tutorial post, so this time I bookmarked it for easier access next time someone needs help. Wow! Revision to sleeve.. a big step, but I know, Janet, for one always says if she ever had a band problem that's what she would do, too. I've read up on it a little, but not yet that familiar with it. Best of luck to you with that. I think I read a post on another board from someone who was having band problems.. lived in your area and used your surgeon. But that's all I remember!! Claiming another senior moment! LOL -
Oh and my scars are tiny, you can only see 3 of them (1 totally disappeared, and ! is up so high it's between my breasts and under my bra all the time) and they are just little pink things . . . the only one you notice is the port scar, which is about 1" - so what? I am cheap I just used Vitamin E and Tea Tree Oil 50/50 and I only used it for a couple of weeks. Actually the port sticking out so far bothers me a whole lot more than the little tiny scar does, I swear that port needs its own zip code! Of course I complained about it to Dr. Baggs - I told him it was waving to people in the waiting room - and he said that my surgeon likes it that way (!) and then agreed with my son that I complained too much (!!). When I am done losing I can always have it revised to a low-profile port I guess . . . maybe I will get another infection and have to have it replaced! I may also have the skin apron in front cut off, I have always assumed I would need that but actually it is going away much better than I thought it would. If my cars were 10x larger and bright red and would never get better, I would still have the surgery again in a heartbeat!!! It is SO COOL . . . .
-
J ~ I miss Dr. Baggs SO MUCH!! I don't have KP anymore because I work for Blue Shield. I actually CALLED him a few months ago asking if he would revise me and how much out of pocket a month it would be LOL! He told me it would be so expensive as well as 2 surgeries. He told me the surgeon I have right now is an excellent Dr., so that made me feel ablittle better! HI REGGIE!!!! How scary about your band!!! Mine is still in there, perfectly hanging on from what we can tell, but it's just not doing it's job as it should. I tried to get a fill once after I changed insurances in 2020, and I literally made it to the car and was throwing up my spit, she had to take the fill out. I have another friend trying that med as well, but like you is dealing with the shortage.

Cole I worry to but I have lost almost 50 pounds. Once I hit the 50 pound mark I am considered a lap band success!! So I have been successful I try to focus on that to.......I just want to lose another 50 to consider myself a success!! But I am off the blood pressure meds, the GERD is gone, and the irriatable bowl thing they told me I had is totally gone too. So if I am down 50 and considered a success than maybe revisions are not an option. Like Annalyn said the goal is to lose and maintain lose. Maybe I am already a success and the rest is extra :-) That might be closer to reality My mom is driving my crazy lately wanting to know why I am not down the 100 I aimed for in the beginning!! Ughhh...sorta annoying me cause than I start to wonder the same darn thing!!

Had VSG surgery... didn't go so well...
Tiffykins replied to ThinkingThin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there, I think I replied over on OH as well. My leak "hole" was the diameter of a nickel. I had a similar experience, but I only had my band for 8 months before I revised to VSG. I had surgery on June 3rd, the leak was found during my third leak test on June 5th. Rushed to surgery to repair the leak, my lungs would not cooperate and I landed in critical condition/icu for 4 days. I was in the hospital a total of 9 days, and came home with a TPN bag, and a central line in my arm. I never had the feeding tube, so I can't say that I understand how you feel on that part. I still have no regrets for having this surgery. Being fat, and dying of heart disease or developing diabetes in my opinion is so much worse in the long run. I haven't had anything to eat or drink, not even ice chips since June 2nd, and I have 4 more days of the TPN bag. The chance for a leak triples with revision, and due to the complications I had with my band, I was not completely surprised that I ended up with a leak. Honestly, I wish everything would of gone smoothly, but at this point, all I can do is move forward and try to recover 100%. Even with all the complications, I would do it again to get the band out of my body and finally start living. I go back to the surgeon on Monday and hopefully will start the clear liquid stage. I'll be on the TPN bag of nutrient replacement for a couple more weeks because they have to wean me off of it. I won't lie, I truly believe that a positive attitude is the only thing that has helped me stay focused. My husband is deployed, my son is in Texas with my family, and I am here in Florida alone day in and day out. I only have 3 friends, and they all have family of their own to tend to, so it's been difficult this last week, but I've got to do this 1 day at a time. I can't worry about the next month, getting through today, and tomorrow are big milestones for me. I go back for another leak test, and I can only hope my appointment brings good news. Believe me, I know it's difficult. I've cried, and been upset, but I can honestly say that I'm not going to let these little speed bumps become roadblocks on my path to success. I'll keep you in my thoughts, and prayers, if you ever want to talk or chat, you can message me here. . . Tiff -
