    Jello - It's True

Hi folks, I just recived a response from TLBC and they have confirmed that the post op diet does include Jello (sugar free).:clap2: they did re-state the importance of the yogurt and cottage cheese the the function of the bactia culture. these are the most important. i think i'll save the Jello for a time when i really need a different taste.:hungry: day 4 of pre-op - down 8 lbs. survived relatives cooking supper (oh the smells) - diddn't seem to have any pangs or overwhelming desires. yippee.

    Having Trouble Eating

I wish I knew how to help you. The stress you must be feeling with every fiber of your being! My only thought is to do what you can to relieve some of the stress, and think of the food as medication you need to survive. Keep whatever you can see as the most palatable on hand and quick to grab--yogurt cups, protein bars, string cheese, anything. You need the calories/protein and the fluids or you'll end up in the E.R., which will only make matters worse. Sending some cyber love your way. Hope it gets better soon!
  3. Ok, so last night i was feeling a little less than ideal, but this morning was the worst. This is day 8, and the pain was as bad as ever--felt like i was going backwards. I guess it was gas, in my abdomen and shoulder, which was weird cuz my shoulder was never really hurting prior to today. I called the surgeon's office, and they called me like 3 times throughout the day to check on me, which was nice. They said it sounded typical, but to let them know if it got any worse. Sucks, cuz i was all excited abt advancing to soup and yogurt, and barely had anything today because i was n so much pain. I basically slept all day and had one trip to the bathroom. Doing better now, but wow, what was that? Anybody else have what felt like a setback at this point post op? Thanks for reading...

    Ok, I need help...

I hear ya on the nutritional numbers. It's hard to keep the carbs and fat low and get the protein. With my band, meat isn't the easiest thing to eat,,, so much chewing and I fill up so fast when I eat meat. SO, I get some of my protein from the carbmaster yogurt you can get from Kroger and a fruit punch protein drink from Walmart. The yogurt is high in protein and very low in carbs,,, like 2 or 3 grams and the protein drink is like no carbs and 26 grams of protein. That works very well for me,,, its very sweet, so I mix more water with it and ice and sip on it during the day. To me, getting 26 proteins in that way is a life saver. Hope that helps some:-)

    Solid Meat Problems

I am 6 weeks post sleeve and I can only eat ground or shredded meats. Chicken Breast or Steak just doesn't go down yet, even if cooked with a sauce.....so, my main protein in still coming from the shakes and cheese and greek yogurt

    Still stuck!

I am not allowed rice, pasta or breads for another few weeks. But I have had food from fast food like chicken which is my downfall. I see myself slowly going back to bad habits now I know I can tolerate it. It takes so much discipline and I have to constantly try and make my mind aware. My problem is there are so many foods that I don't like but are healthy and on list of things to eat. I hate yogurt but found one I can tolerate so I can get my protein in. But not all the time. I am trying to be happy about my weight loss but honestly it's a battle!! I need to work harder .

    Acid 5 days out

In the beginning I had a lot of acid too. The thinned yogurt and milk really helped. I found that Mrs Grass chicken soup was soothing too, you just have to strain out the noodles.

    Three weeks in

Hi Sandy, sorry just saw your message. I'm 5 weeks out now and can eat soft foods now but not doing so well. Tried lean pork last night but hurt even after I chewed a lot. Ended up eating yogurt. I guess it will just take time. Stomach must be super small. I am still burping a lot. All in all I would do it all over again. How are you feeling?

    Three weeks in

Hi Cindy..Im eating tuna with a little lite mayo...yogurt...as well. I tried to eat lean ground beef, it didn't work out to well...i mostly eat soup
  10. Hey Tina, I love Unjury. BUT, I do not like the unflavored one. I have tried to "just sprinkle" it on things and it changed the taste. I ordered a lot and I am stuck with the unflavored. For my protein shake I combine it with a scoop of peanut butter and chocolate soy milk, and that tastes really good. I find that if I use a little of it at a time then it's not so bad, I will sprinkle it on cream of wheat or oatmeal. Have you tried greek yogurt? I have found some that have anywhere from 12-16 grams of protein. I hope this has helped. good luck

    Pre-op frustration

I am also on a similar pre-op diet for a 14th date of surgery. What kind of shakes are you drinking? I have found great success with the Premier shakes from Costco. They have 30 grams of protein and are very low in carbs. What about excercise? Water? Fiber? Sometimes, when I have lowered my fiber -ex. in a high protein diet I can't "go" to save my life, and need a bit of help if you know what I mean... One thing that is different with my diet, is that I get 2 servings of fat free greek yogurt in between my shakes. I am loosing about 1/2 lb per day. Hope this helps!
  12. Hi everyone, So today I am 7 months post of RNY. I have lost 57 pounds since my pre-op diet. I am so far past the excitement and hope I had when the weight was coming off during the first 2 months. Since then though, I have lost a total of only 10 pounds in 5 months (!)- I don't even really know what to say about that- I voiced my concerns to my surgeon's office at 2, 3, 4, 5 months but they keep telling me to just follow the plan and it will fall off- they won't give me a calorie count of where I should be- just 60g of protein in 2 shakes and then 3 meals of 4oz each. Obviously protein first, then veggies- but they want me eating fruit and whole grain carbs too. Obviously 64oz of fluids and 30min of cardio plus strength training 4x per week. I've been doing the eating part really well until about a month ago and then I got to the point where I realized this is just like I was before- there's nothing special about what I'm doing. I feel little to no restriction when I eat, NOTHING (and I've tried) has made me dump. I haven't vomited or had any GI problems since the surgery. So I came to the point that I realized I'm back to just being on a diet- like I've been on since I was 9. So of course my old habits and thinking came right back- I give myself excuses for grabbing a few Hershey's kisses at work from someone's desk or having just 1 cookie at a party. It's just made me more frustrated and feeling like a failure. I feel great when I exercise. I hired a trainer to see twice a week for resistance training which I think has helped. I've lost a couple of inches here and there since starting 5 weeks ago and I feel good physically. I'm just stuck. I mentioned this in another thread- that I'd been in a 4 month stall- and someone - who is brilliant by the way- corrected me and said that was called a plateau- ha! Made me laugh but it also made me feel like I wasn't imagining this all and there is something not right here. My meals are usually either ff cottage cheese or plain vanilla Greek yogurt (4oz of either) for breakfast, a premiere protein shake for a snack, salad with 2-4oz of chicken breast with veggies/beans on it for lunch, another premiere protein shake for an afternoon snack and then dinner which varies but is some lean meat (hamburger- no bun, steak, chicken, shrimp or fish) any of them of about 2-3 oz, with a veggie usually. I wait to drink until 30 minutes after eating and I take all my vitamins like clockwork each day- What am I doing wrong? And how can I get back to that place of hope where I am expecting to lose more weight. I started out at 240 and now I'm 183. Don't get me wrong- I'm not angry about having "had surgery and failing" or something- I'm thrilled about where I am but I don't think I went through all that plus complications afterwards for 57 pounds when others around me have lost almost and over a hundred at this point. Is my metabolism that screwed up from years of dieting? Or is my food addiction just not letting me see the forest through the trees? I feel like I've lost hope again- which is what this surgery had finally given me after so many years. Anyone's input would be sooo appreciated- thanks everyone for making this such a comforting place- just reading everyone's posts over the past few months has given me so much info-

    What was the point?

Make sure that you're getting enough good fats and enough Proteins. Stick with high Protein foods like greek yogurt with honey, eggs, lean ham or turkey, etc. Also, make sure that you're getting enough Water. Water helps to flush out all of the bad stuff, so if you don't have enough water in your system, then your body holds onto your fat.

    MAY 17TH SLEEVERS????

I'm jumping in late, but I was May 17th, too! Happy 5 weeks to us! I weighed in today and I'm down 20 lbs on the nose from surgery day (39 from pre-surgery diet). I was hoping to get into the 2-teens by today, but I'll take 221 I'm eating everything except raw veggies and steak, though Martha Sugalski I really only eat the same few things (protein shake every morning, greek yogurt, tuna creations or chicken for lunch, cheese sticks for snacks and some kid of meat or fish for dinner. I'm still not enjoying food like I used to, eating seems more like a chore these days -- which is fine, it could be worse, right??? Hope you ladies are doing well!

Does protein bother anyones GI tract?

It could be the lactose since it's whey protein I suppose, but I eat yogurt, cottege cheese etc... with no problems. I was thinking it could be the sucralose in some of the shakes, I don't really eat a lot fake sugars, but the whey protein powder has none. I just have to get through the next week and I can eat mushies for my protein!
  16. No mushies allowed on my diet. I had 1 week of straight liquids, then 2nd week of creamies, then added yogurt to all of that on the 3rd week. 4th week was straight to solids

    Yogurt suggestions....

@Tara-U thank you i will have to try the half greek yogurt half mayo for chicken salad.Wonder how it would taste with egg salad?I will have to try. Thanks!
  18. All the doctor did was give me a sheet that stated I should be on a liquid diet for 20 days and on that it says half a cup of yogurt for lunch amongst soup and juice and Jello. The soups are also low fat milk based soups, but no chunks. And that I have to have 6-8 cups of Water during the day, which is so hard to do. Mostly all he said was I'll learn as time goes by, to chew my food a lot and not to throw up. He may have said more but I was so freaked during the consult that I don't remember, lol. My mom says he also said I should be on mushies for 2 months before attempting regular food. I knew he didn't give me much direction but wasn't aware until now just how little he did give. Momamia, would you mind sharing what instructions you were given? Thank you, Violinist, your answer also helped. I appreciate any help I can get.
  19. I am having my surgery at the Northwest Weight Loss Surgery in Everett, WA. I am very excited and just a little nervous! I haven't really talked to the doctor about what pain meds I will be on. I guess I will ask when I have my pre-op appointment. I am a bit worried that the pain meds will make me nauseas without being able to eat solid foods. What was your experience with that? I did find a really good yogurt smoothie at costco! It is made by the same company that makes the Protein shakes. I will definitely stock up on vegetable broth (I'm also a vegetarian .

    1st pureed meal post op

I'm in puree for another week, I've been living off the same things everyday: Meal 1 - poached egg, 2.5 melba toast and 1/2 cup of applesauce Meal 2 - cottage cheese 2/3 cup Meal 3 - refried beans 2/3 cup (I blend it with salsa and cheese and greek yogurt for extra protein) Meal 4 - ricotta bake Meal 5 - greek yogurt Meal 6 - 2 laughing cow wedges with 6 whole week soda crackers I just can't stand the protein drinks anymore.

2/06/06 - Happy Band Day To Me!

Well, at last. The surgery is a done deal. And to my intense gratification, I never felt a moment of embarrassment due to any of the staff at the Surgery Center of Richardson. I felt quite at ease - and at 7am - there just weren't that many spectators - just the lovely staff. Apparently, it is a miracle that my liver hasn't just given up the goat and stopped functioning. According to Doctor Fox, even after losing 15 lbs on the pre-op diet, my liver was still big, fatty and misshapen. (uh - yeah, just like the rest of me!) So, now, I can move on with the rest of my life as a banded person. Personal goal: NO PB's!!! I am sipping some lovely beef consume as I type and I am vowing to myself to do the best I posssibly can to follow the post-op diet to the letter. I can live for 4 days on protein shakes and beef broth, no matter what my brain says. I mean, my BRAIN said I needed a cheeseburger on the way home from the surgery. I can see we are going to have to have some words, my brain and I. After that, I gradually move into what I would call mushies - but Doc Fox calls "full liquids". I think sugar free pudding and yogurt qualify as mushies...By day 8, I can have mashed potatoes, cream of wheat and bananas. By day 13, I can start with scrambled eggs and baked potatoes. I can survive this, really I can. All I have to do is totally avoid tv or any advertizing for the first week. The Spirometer is a big old pain - but I guess I will do that, too. I don't want any collapsed lungs or diaphram issues. Well, I have to get up and walk, now... Sip a little, Walk a little Sip a little, Walk a little SIP SIP SIP Walk a lot, Sip a little more...

    Puree Meal Ideas

Thank you very much for your ideas. I'm trying to get off the protein shakes and yogurt b/c I'm getting very bored and tired of them. They are the easy go to and really easy to get down but ... I'm only a week into my puree stage and I'm already getting tired of these! LOL I'm in trouble but your ideas will help. Plus, I love Ricotta!
  23. Couldn't take my meds either. It was at the point where I would hate yogurt and pudding for the rest of my life if I continued to mix my meds in them. Doctor said it was okay to forgo the gallbladder medicine. I called my shrink to get my usual prescription in an orally dissolvable tablet. My insurance didn't cover it and they wanted $800 for a month's supply. I'm off two meds so far until I can swallow tablets. I've got 2.5 weeks to go. It's insane. I hear you!! Gas X strips were useless on me too! Started taking children's dose of milk of magnesia twice a day and my cramping and bloating finally went away in about two days. Wasn't getting enough water in either. I started drinking out of a 24 oz tumbler with a straw (big no no) and found that I drink my crystal light water like it's Diet Coke. LOL For some reason the tumbler and straw have helped me reached my water goals. I didn't think it would be this difficult. Once I think I have something down, I need to figure something else out. Everything feels so up in the air - Well, I'll try this, and ok, let's see what happens if I do this..nope, gotta try something else. It's such new ground and there's no way for us to predict how our bodies will react to anything right now. It's very frustrating when at the same time we need to follow guidelines from the surgeon.

    Why Sugar Free?

Congrats on the slice and dice  I actually really enjoyed my broth while still in the hospital. It was a little harder at home to find one that I really liked. I did sugar free Jello, but sugared popcicles. When I moved onto mushies I had regular pudding and yogurt. I didnt have any problems...
