    Disgusted

FarmerE - In the past, a trip to McD's was just a combo - A BIG MAC combo! I was stuffed after I would eat that. Now, when I do have to have McD's, I usually get a happy meal or a grilled chicken wrap with a fruit and yogurt parfait. My biggest problem, and I am sure I am not alone on this, is that I am an emotional eater. I guess nearing the holidays has me under some kind of subconcious stress therefore I reach out for food. I am hoping exercise will help alleviate alot of the stress.

    Drinking water with food?

If you need the quench from eating hot foods, try keeping a little dish of regular yogurt (at least half fat) or greek yogurt (more like sour cream but high protein) and use that after your meal or between bites. The fat will take the burn away and you won't need to drink. Even a tiny dish of ice cream (1-2 Tbsp) works. But it has to have fat. Or drink some protein shake mixed with a tablespoon of yogurt. All safe, relatively high protein options.

    4 days banded

I was banded on 2/25/09. It's been a bumpy ride and I was in a lot of pain until yesterday afternoon. I am trying to keep the pain meds to a minimal (FYI - too much pain meds = constipation). Speaking of that, I have not had ANY movements since surgery. I was on clear liquids for 1 day post surgery and now I am on full liquids of protein shakes, broth, SF pudding and jello and yogurt. But I am not very hungry and when I do eat, it hits my stomach kind of hard and I just have to wait it out to feel better. My gas pains are getting better and walking, heat pad and GasX have helped that. My stick sites are still sore, but getting better. I actually slept in my bed last night and on my side! It wasn't the best night of sleep, but it wasn't bad either. I think in a weeks' time, all of us banded this week will feel ALOT better! Keep up the good works girls and boys!!

    4 days banded

I was banded on the 26th and am feeling 95% today. I have found vanilla low fat yogurt to be very soothing and it also makes me feel full. I went out to lunch today and had a cup of tomato basil soup which was divine after all the bland canned soups I have been eating. Back to work tomorrow...should be good as I will have to focus on things other than food and surgery.

    4 days banded

I was banded on the 23 and just got home from the hospital. This liquids only is killing me, I have been feeling really dizzy and nauseated. I went to ER and was dehydrated and mal nutritioned. I have to call my dr on Monday and see if I can start mushies early. He did say I could have full liquids which include yogurt, and pudding. Not sure why I cant have mushy veggies yet? Does anyone else have problems with dizziness and headaches?

    No loss

Girl all I know is my family is sitting here eating stuffed pizza and I'm eating a plain Greek yogurt with blueberries... And tomorrow I will weight the same I'm sure... I hit 171 and I stay there or go up a pound or two on a daily basis for a month now.. I'm getting a treadmill on Thursday. Maybe if I just walk all day on it I'll start losing again..

    Serving Size Irritation

Oh crap ... going to check that fancy greek yogurt with the fruit on the bottom.. I swear I have read the label a million times but perhaps I missed or chose not to read serving size .. there will be a nasty e-mail coming on to the company if thats the case.

    Any Smoothie Ideas???

Here are a couple that I have 1cup frozen fruit 1/2cup skim milk 1/2 cup low-fat/fat free flavored yogurt 1/2 cup of ice 1 scoop Protein powder Fruit Smoothie with sugar free juice instead of milk: 1 cup of frozen fruit 1/2 cup sugar free juice (i.e. Crystal Lite) 1/2 cup low-fat/fat-free flavored yogurt 1/2 cup ice 1 scoop Protein Powder These were given to me by my Dietian.

    Serving Size Irritation

Its the same with yogurts - particularly those really nice gourmet ones, greek yogurt with the fruit in the bottom. They're a single size container, but two servings. Who in the hell takes a yogurt to work and only eats half? its ridiculous.
  10. Welcome to the ranks of "the not so lucky few" that lose their hunger forever or for a time (like the first year). I lasted 10 days and then my hunger returned. I know what stomach acid feels like (and that wasn't it) and I took Prilosec 2x a day anyway. I thought for sure I'd end up cheating, as I did during my 1st wk following my lapband surgery 4 yrs ago. I had 4 long weeks of liquids (never clear, thank God) then soft for 4 weeks. I was single when I had my lapband surgery so it was much easier to cheat. Plus there wasn't risk of a major problem ie: leak. Everytime I wanted to eat something (just yogurt or something harmless, imo), my husband became the food Nazi. I knew he would tattle on me when I had my 4 weeks post op visit. So I did stick it out. Not sure how ull get thru on clear liquids, I thought I was starving with cream soups and Protein shakes. Hats off to u tho. Drink lots of broth - warm fills u up more than cold. R u allowed to use unflavored Protein powder? That may help fill u up a little if u can use it. I feel for u. Truly. Longest 4 weeks of my life. Good luck. And don't risk getting a leak just to chew something, please. Read the complications forums about the few people that gets leaks. My dr said most are caused by people advancing their diet too quikly. Convinced me enuf...
  11. Thank you all for the support. I contacted my nurse program director about my hunger and was told to drink Water. I also tried to bring up my frustration with the nutritionist and was told to talk to my doctor, which I attempted to. I told him of my mental dullness as well (I'm a therapist and I was finding myself searching for words at times during session... I don't know if that has anything to do with my diet). My Dr. was more concerned with my blood pressure, which is at an all time high! I was shocked and worried about how high it is and I take my meds. I was so worried about it, and my doctor told me just to keep taking the meds and ignored my other concerns. I was really frustrated and scared. When I bumped into my nurse program director he told me that it is very difficult to get an accurate blood pressure because of your size". He told me I was probably suffering from "white coat syndrome' which elevated my blood pressure. I have never experienced that in the past. Basically, no one I contacted took much heed to how I was feeling. Don't get me wrong, I think my team is fantastic and awesome, but the one size fits all dietary regimen wasn't working for me and now I was cared and worried about my blood pressure. Well, I did the worst thing I could possibly do. I snuck 4 or 5 Hershey kisses. I felt horrible mentally and physically. Mentally, I felt like a failure and physically I felt a sugar rush that made my head hurt, but tummy was fine. I was shocked that I didn't get physically ill just didn't like all that sugar. So instead of beating myself up, binging, or crying about it (like I always did before surgery) I decided to get proactive. I researched 10 different programs dietary guidelines for the gastric sleeve and decided to follow the most common dietary guidelines, which was full liquids for the next two weeks. (I'm supposed to still be on clear liquids...not even Protein shakes until next week). I had a fat free yogurt and now I feel, dare I say it, normal? I know my choice may not be one that people agree with, and that's ok. I know I cheated on the diet and that may be a sign that I will not reach my goal or be noncompliant in a way that will undermine my efforts, I will deal with that and work to better myself and attain my goal. But I'm just trying to break my old patterns and own up to my struggles. This has been so hard, but I'm hoping I can make it.

    A Simple Day's Menu

Eating three regularly scheduled meals a day is another part of a healthy diet —a healthy Breakfast, a healthy lunch and a healthy dinner every day. While we know that this isn't always easy, we also know that eating on a schedule will help you avoid between-meal hunger, which often leads to overeating at the next meal. Here's a 1400-calorie sample one-day menu to use as a guide: Breakfast 1/2 cup oatmeal 1/2 cup fruit cocktail in juice 1 cup plain low-fat yogurt mixed with fruit Lunch 2 slices light whole wheat bread 2 oz turkey ham and 1 oz low-fat cheese 1/8 avocado, sliced alfalfa sprouts 1 tsp mayonnaise 1/2 cup baby carrots 2 Tbsp nonfat dressing for dipping 1 apple Dinner 4 oz chicken leg, no skin, baked 1 cup whole wheat Pasta 4 Tbsp low-fat vinaigrette, 2 for marinade and 2 to toss with pasta (add extra vinegar, lemon juice or Water as needed) 1 cup broccoli and 1 cup zucchini, steamed and tossed with pasta 8 oz. 1% milk Snack 1 cup cantaloupe melon 1/4 cup cottage cheese OR 8 oz skim milk

    McDonalds

I haven't read through the thread so please forgive any duplicates. These are fast foods I've eaten since banding. Chipotle - usually eat there at least once a week. I get the chicken bol, no rice, extra black Beans with hot salsa and sour cream depending on what else I've eaten during the day, and what time of day it is. The bol is at least 2 meals for me, sometimes 3, and I always throw some away. McDonald's - fruit 'n yogurt parfait (it's made with lowfat yogurt) Taco Bell - pintos 'n cheese, spicy chicken taco (I eat the meat only), side nachos. Subway - I've been there three times. Both times I've gotten the "mini sub". Once I ate the bread, once I just ate the tuna off of it. And once I just had them put the tuna on a plate. Schlotzsky's - Thai Chicken pizza. 4 slices = 4 meals. Pizza Hut - chicken wings in either "Flamethrower" or "Garlic Parmesan". That may actually be all the fast food I've had since surgery. And don't get me wrong, many of the things I've listed are things I've eaten once or twice since surgery, except for the Chipotle.

    ABC -- May 2007 Chat

Doesn't it mean August Band Club? We started the group when we were all banded in Aug. 2006. Of course, we welcome anyone to join our discussions, but that's the origin of the name. Pelo, First of all, we all lose at different rates and as long as the scale/clothes size, etc. are going the right direction overall, I try to stay happy with my progress. I went almost 2 months only losing a couple of pounds. Maybe it is because my BMI was on the "low" side to begin with. Maybe my body liked that weight. Right now I'm starting to think that my scale is "stuck" because I have been doing a LOT of exercise and the pounds are not coming off even though I am not eating more than I used to. But again, my body is smaller, needs less calories at rest (apparently I have NO metabolism because I swear I eat less than 1000 calories per day and based on my weight, I should need about 1,400 if I didn't even get out of bed all day!!!). I know I shouldn't complain b/c I am very close to goal and really very happy with my band. But, I do understand your frustration. I'm going to start writing down everything I eat and drink to make sure I'm not "losing" calories during the day. Hang in there -- eventually it will come off. Like others have said -- re-evaluate what you are eating. Damn that self-honesty thing! I found it helpful to have a pretty standard eating plan during most of my weight loss -- a Protein shake for Breakfast, Soup for lunch, and either a small meal or even just some cheese and yogurt for dinner. It was LOW calorie!! Hope this helps some. J-

Ewwww I can't do the Ricotta! I know a lot of people love it, but I hate it! I'll stick with cheese, milk, yogurt, and ice cream.

I missed this when it first started, but I'm game. I've been making smoothies with vanilla yogurt in them already, and I try and have milk with/for Breakfast. I'm snacking on some cherry yogurt now. I didn't get any cottage cheese at the store this time, but I've been having a good amount of that too. I'm not into the soy or rice milks. I've been considering the Carb Countdown or whatever it's called, but usually I'm with 1% (yucky skim).
  17. I don't know if I qualify as a "successful" loser yet, but I feel bad that no one's answered you yet, so here's my .02: B'fast = 40 g Protein shake w/8.5 oz vanilla micellar milk, 1 scoop vanilla unjury Protein powder, 1/2 scoop low-carb chai tea & 4-5 ice cubes... yummy way to start the day w/a big bunch of protein! or an egg or egg-beater omelette w/a little cheese, maybe a veggie; slice or two of bacon... but it's the shake 9 times out of 10 lunch = usually 3-4 oz of soy "fajita strips" or "chicken strips" either on top of some lettuce w/1 oz cheese, a sprinkle of sunflower seeds, a few olives w/a little salad dressing... or the 3-4 oz soy "meat" w/ a couple T of diced tom, maybe a 1/2 small can of sliced mushrooms & a little cheese on top, all cooked together... or a veggie burger w/a slice of cheese, lettuce, tom, pickle slice... or deli "roll up"... tuna salad... egg salad... w/lettuce... dinner = a small portion of whatever main dish I make for the family (usually chicken or beef or salmon) + veggie (and I TRY not to have the bread/rice/pasta/potato, etc... sometimes I do... sometimes I don't...) When needed: Snacks = 1 oz low-fat cheese; 1 oz cashews; S. Beach bar; low-fat yogurt; pro shake; no-sugar popsicle or a skinny cow bar (very rarely)... That's pretty much it... I tend to be one of those folks who finds what I like & sticks w/it... so there's not so much "calculating" of the cals/pro/carbs every day... I can do it in my head... Best wishes!

I have to get some Ricotta. Kel, how do you eat it? I just bought a frozen soft yogurt and ice cream maker, but I sent it back before I opened it because I read the recipes and there was too much prep work. What machine are you talking about? The one I got actually wanted me to cook in a pan, blend in a blender, then chill the mixture for 30 minutes before putting it in the machine. I just wanted to toss all the ingredients in and walk away!

    Do you eat breakfast???

Becky, I am exactly like you If I eat breakfast I am more hungary than when I do not. However, on those days I have to have breakfast I will eat a banana and peanut butter or a yogurt. I am usually really tight in the am as well>

How did everyone do this weekend? I think I only had 2 servings yesterday (and one of those was my mom's cheesecake). Yogurt already for breakfast this morning, probably some more later as well.

    First Two Weeks...

We were banded the same day!!! I was only on liquids for a week before surgery, but I did some experimenting before hand for the post surgery diet (the pre-surgery they had a preferred shake that was awful and I couldn't stomach so I secretly switched). The only protein shake I found that was good was metabolic reset, specifically the chocolate. I found that when you mix it with skim milk, it actually tastes like chocolate milk. I bought it at whole foods and amazon carries it too. I also have some unflavored egg white protein that I can mix in with liquidy yogurt or one of the 45 calorie coconut milk things and then I add one of the Archer Farms little fruity flavor packets and have a protein "smoothy". I just have to add liquid vitamins and fiber (or crushed vitamins if you are okay with the vitamin taste).

    Liquid Diet Torture

Hi there. My Doctor doesn't require any pre-op liquid diets. He said if I would like to do one I can, but he doesn't ask his patients to. He's done thousands of surgeries and I really trust him, I was actually referred to him by a friend who had it done there. I would say that it's really up to the Dr. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Maybe instead of eating a pretzel or cheetos go for soups or yogurts. I would say stay in the area of liquids if you absolutely can't stand the hunger. But the band is about to change your life, why not start two weeks early and get healthy?

Menu Plans - Care to Share?

I don't follow any set menu plan. I reckon I should, but I'm like Nancy. That never worked for me before so I just try to focus on Protein. I usually throw some whey protein in some Water and shake it up and run out the door. For lunch, I often take a Tuna kit to work, if not, I grab a chicken breast and some veggies or I ask for a cheeseburger minus the bread and I'll have some Baked Lays or Sunchips with it. It's a treat when I do that. If I'm being 'good', I go home, throw a baked scrod or crabcakes or some protein in the oven, maybe a few spears of asparagus or a 1/2 cup of Italian green Beans. Most every night I have a yogurt to take my meds with. If I'm on the road with my traveling team. I am much much worse. I love the Schwan's man. I can order good protein from him and avoid the aisles that call out my name in a grocery store. He's a bit expensive, but the food is great quality and easy to cook in just the right portions, which helps me stay focused. I eat alot of chili too (Wolf Brand Chili), but I'm not always 'good' when I eat chili cause I like it with Fritos and grated cheese. Unless you've lived in Texas, you wouldn't understand just how good a Frito Pie with Wolf Brand Chili is, but it's one of my biggest comfort foods. I'm detoxing slowly. lol.
  25. Wow Cashley, thats a hard question LOL, since I can eat anything as long as I chew it that is. You might want to take a few cans of Protein drinks with you incase that late night urge hits, or maybe some Protein Bars, they should travel well in a suite case. Maybe some rice cakes, baked chips, canned fruit, nuts. I went to McDonnalds the other day, first time in a loooong time. I had the yogurt thingy with the fruit..it was tasty and 99 cents. I looked at the menu and gosh, nothing appealed to me (I'm not a fast food junkie anyway) but maybe just order a kids meal and take the bread off or eat the chicken. They also had salads. At mexican places I get what ever I want, again I can eat anything as long as I chew, same with italian. The only time I have trouble eating is very early in the morning and late late late at night, not even a glass of milk goes down well. But other than that lol. Good luck, hope you get some good ideas.
