3 days post op - gastric bypass

I hadn't thought about adding vanilla protein to my yogurt but will now! I add an unflavored to some soups and don't taste it but it doesn't blend completely. Do you mind sharing what type of pea protein you use? Thank you!
  2. Just wondering why do you think everyone's program is so drastically different? I know there has to be some consistent research on gastric sleeve surgery. But there are so many variations with everyone. My Dr allowed Protein shakes upon Discharge from hospital. Then every 2-3 days I am allowed to progress to yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce then well cooked vegetables. Then 2-5 days eggs, Beans, fish and nuts then dark meat chicken. If I can tolerate the new food for 2 days I could progress on. This could be as soon as 3 weeks. Luckily (or unluckily lol) I have been able to tolerate everything with no problems. The only thing that makes me nauseous is my chewable Vitamin. I see some people on liquids for weeks after surgery. Just makes me curious why my program allows it but others don't? The surgery should be standard protocol for most everyone right? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. I'm two weeks and two days out and have just barely lost 5 pounds. I'm not really ever hungry- mostly just mental cravings I think. I've been eating Soup pretty religiously and now added FF plain Greek yogurt and FF/SF pudding, adding in GENEPRO Protein powder get me to 60g of protein. On my worst day I'm still eating less than 800 calories. Not sure why more isn't coming off, but my doctor didn't seem too concerned. I've got to believe that it'll come off soon, right? Note: I did lose 50 pounds pre-surgery but not sure if or how that would affect me post-op.

    Mushies

I start the "mushies" on Friday and I've heard people say on here that mush is everything from mashed potatoes, to jello, to chips and guacomole! I need to send the DH shopping for mush and so I need a list. So far I have eggs, yogurt, sf pudding, sf ice cream, mashed potatoes - what else? Can I have chicken or tuna salad for protein?

    cruise food suggestions

On my dr's schedule, you would be on mushies right now. Not sure what your Dr. has as your plan. So, following my dr's plan, you could enjoy things like: Yogurt; Scrambled eggs; guacamole (if you mush it up and take out any big chunks of onion, etc.) mashed potatoes salmon Soups cottage cheese Jello frozen yogurt I hope that helps! How Fast / Slow Do You Eat

I was banded on 9/16/05 and haven't had my first fill yet so I don't have much restriction. However, I make sure that I eat only to the point of satisfaction, NOT full. Here's a typical day for me: Breakfast: 8 oz. yogurt Mid-morning: 8 oz. Protein drink Lunch: small piece of baked chicken, a few bites of broccoli Mid-afternoon: 8 oz. Protein Drink Dinner: 5-6 pieces of imitation crab meat, 1-2 string cheese Sometimes, I'll have a granola bar if I'm out and about and won't be back home in time for my scheduled meal. I can now guzzle Water like I did before surgery - only on an empty stomach though. I drink anywhere between 48-64oz. of flavored water a day. However, I was only able to sip the first few days after surgery because I was still swollen.

3 days post op.. So nauseous, help?

I was just banded last Wednesday and was so nauseous because I wasn't getting enough calories. My doctor told me that I could have yogurt and baby food. After I ate some baby food I felt so much better. You can also try some ginger tea or mixing some ginger into your food. It's a natural tummy soother. Good luck and I'm sorry you are feeling bad. :-(

    Not doing good with foods!

Hi, I was just sleeved 5 days ago. I am just wondering what the feeling is that you feel? How do you know it doesn't agree? Is it a pain you feel, vomiting, or dizzy? I have tried soft foods (like Apple sauce and yogurt) and I get this pain in my stomach, but it's the same pain when I drink Water. I'm just trying to figure out if It's my body trying to process or if I actually need to stay clear. What can you eat that doesn't make you sick?
  9. Im allowed to get into pudding, yogurt, fudgesicles 3-4 days after surgery. Do you think applesauce and mashed potatoes would fall into the category too. They are the same texture as pudding and yogurt and I know a friend who did this. Also when finally able to eat, what were some of the reg. foods that you first get into that are easy on the band? Thanks for the help!

    Honey

I had the RNY surgery three weeks ago and I tried a very small amount of honey today on my yogurt. I missed my usual morning yogurt, with honey and pecans. Sooooo... Just ate a teeny bit and seems all smooth sailing so far.

    Needing a little encouragement

@@Elizabeth21 and @@Djmohr Thank you. I do need to keep reminding myself. I keep comparing my recovery to my C-Sections and then have to remind myself that this was a completely different surgery and my body was re-wired. I also really need to stop comparing myself to other people's stories. That seems to be much easier said than done. I'm back at work today (shh...taking a quick break before staff meeting). I'll check in this afternoon with a drowsiness report. @@CanyonBaby I know I've read about the stalls that happen throughout the entire process, I guess I wasn't expecting it so soon? I know it really has no choice but to eventually come off (unless I do dumb things), which is why I'm okay with it. The only carbs I've incorporated was two ritz crackers with my tuna salad (which crackers and toast are allowed). I just needed a little crunch and raw veggies are still a no no so my normal adding in of carrots and celery make my tuna kinda like mush. But I will definitely beware of them in the future, not to mention I already have a hard enough time fitting in the 80-100g of Protein I require without adding in extras! @scstxrn My next appt and blood work is on the 11th so I will know better then. As of this past week I've finally got my Vitamin schedule down. I learned I had to set alarms on my phone to keep me straight. I will need to check out the lemonade that is one I haven't tried. I've been drinking Premier Protein since pre-op but I think I'm am burned out on it. I do best when I make my own smooties using a protien powder or shakeology, fruit, yogurt and milk, but lately even that hasn't tasted very good. I've been thinking about making popcicles out of the Isopure drinks to see if that works. It is HOT here in Florida already. @Bandista Thank you so much. I did this for my kids, I want to be able to play and keep up with them d not sit on the sidelines and of course to be there for them when they are grown as well. Oh and I also want to get my butt back on my other passion - horses and rollercoasters. Here's to better days!

    Keep me in check:)

@@Woodland4807 Ok, you asked us to keep you in check. That says to me you already know you are doing something you shouldn't be. #1 - you are likely not getting enough Protein in. If this is close to your daily routine, then you can expect to get sick down the road or lose more of your hair than you would if you were getting your protein. You are in control of this. #2 - I would not expect to see pizza on your approved foods list at 5 weeks post op. It is clearly not the healthiest choice for you right now. It does not mean that you can never have a piece of pizza again, but it will be sometime before your new tummy is ready for that. If you need a snack at this point, I would suggest either adding another protein shake in which would boost your protein count or stick with things that have a high protein value like lunch meat, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese, nuts or seeds. Jerkey is also an excellent option You are doing fantastic! Steer clear of things that can make you stall like the carbs in that pizza. Many complications can be avoided from WLS by following the plan provided by your doctor exactly. It is fantastic that your exercise routine is so strong at this stage as well. Keep up the great work and you will reach your goals before you know it!
  13. @ You are doing fantastic so far don't get discourage. I am wondering about the volume you are eating at one sitting. 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups would actually cause me to be over full and get sick. I can maybe get a cup in at 11 months post op and it really depends on what I am eating. For example I can eat a whole container of yogurt which is 6 ounces but I am full afterwards. I could never eat 6 oz. of meat. Especially if it a dense meat like chicken, beef or pork. I am lucky to get in 3 oz. If I am eating salad then I can eat close to 1.5 cups depending on what Protein is in there. I can eat 1/2 cup cottage cheese with a couple of strawberries. When you say protein laden, can you give some examples of what that looks like? It might help us help you. Also you may need to consider eating 5 smaller meals spread out throughout the day and no Snacks. I know it sounds weird but sometimes you just have to change things up as in your routine.our bodies get used to the same things and then stall. Good luck to you and please don't get discouraged, the weight will come off. I lost the most weight in the first 8 weeks and then everything slowed down. I now lose between 8 and 12 lbs a month. And I have had a whole month where I lost nothing. Yet in the end I have lost 119lbs in 11 short months.
  14. you can add the unflavored powder to pretty much anything. I've added it to my scrambled eggs before I cook them, yogurt, cottage cheese, jello (add it to it when it's still in liquid form).

    Weak and Shakey

I was banded 9/26, 10 days ago. I have been on protein shakes and broth (and 1/2 cup low carb yogurt once) ever since. I am getting weaker and now feel even shakey. I know I am supposed to go on mushies Monday but I think I really need to eat something. I have to work and my students are not the easiest bunch (teens with emotional issues). Does anyone know if there are rules and guidelines to mushy foods? Anything that I can puree? or ??? Thanks.

    confused about soup

thanks everyone- unfortunately i dont feel that I can go to my doc for advice (story for another post) the packet I have says that during this phase i can have soup (not creamy) I have the canned high sodium variety on the counter (chicken and rice since I have read many have trouble with noodles) mostly I have just been having things like eggs and tuna (allowed in my packet) and pudding or yogurt. the soup was looking delicioso tonight as my heat is not working! And no worries girls, I know better than to eat solids! (I went out to dinner tonight with people from work and ordered hummus and ate it with a spoon- they were all quite grossed out) No one from work knows I am banded so I guess they just think I am weird!
  17. Hello all! It has now been 12 days since I had my laparoscopic gastric sleeve done, and each day I'm getting healthier. Still have an issue with internal pain on the right side, and one of incisions on the right got infected, so my GP prescribed Cephalexin 4x daily. The pill is the size of a horse and smells horrible. Thank goodness I can snap it in half - only was I can take it. I weighed myself this morning and it looks like I'm at 280 lbs. My pre-surgery weight on April 1 was 334 lbs. Not sure how accurate that is given they are two different scales so will hold off doing the happy dance until my clinic appointment for weigh in on the more accurate scale to see exactly where I'm at. food wise, week 1 and most of 2, I subsisted on Greek yogurt (Oikos vanilla, lime, honey), Hunts chocolate pudding cups, and Ensure High Protein. I tried Heinz baby food (prunes and sweet potato) as well as Campbell's ready to serve cream Soups, but I was just not a fan after one serving. The soups (butternut squash, cream of asparagus with basil, and roasted cream of potato with leeks) all tasted the same. The baby food helped, but in the back of my head it was still baby food and I just couldn't go past that. The food bank will be happy, I've got a bunch of stuff heading their way! April 29, I thought I was far enough along that I could have something soft and went for brunch with a friend. Ordered salmon with mashed potatoes. Boy was that ever a big mistake! It came with a side of toasted French bread. I thought if I chewed the bread to paste consistency I'd be okay. Ya. No. That minuscule amount of bread went down like cement and I was in pain for close to 30 mins. I managed to eat a little mashed potato, but again, did not sit well. Yes, I acknowledge that I'm a moron who should have waited another week before making even the mash potato attempt! May 1, I was able to eat the 85g Cloverleaf Flaked Light Tuna Lemon Pepper. Chewing slowly and eating half a teaspoon at a time. May 2, I scrambled one egg with some milk and didn't have a problem eating it. For lunch, I tried eating a couple of Premium saltine crackers with 85g of Cloverleaf Flaked Light Tuna Dill and Lemon. The crackers did not go down well. Similar reaction as the toast, not as painful, but uncomfortable nonetheless. Later, as a snack, I tried (and finished) a cup of chocolate Cheerios. Went down just fine and no pain. It took me a good half hour or so to finish... But who'd have thought? I think I'll try a cup for Breakfast tomorrow! I'm suppose to "officially" start the soft foods part on Monday and am looking forward to making homemade chilli and guacamole. Has anyone had any problems with either? I've been trying to get to my Calcium and protein goals each day, but it's bloody hard! Today I finally hit my calcium goal, but was still out by 11g for my protein. How's everyone else who was sleeved around the same time as me doing? Cheers! Mercedes
  18. Just had frozen yogurt with fruit and granola for dinner and I feel horrible because it wasn't a protein packed dinner and probably had too much sugar...I follow the high protein diet closely and eat a lot of unprocessed foods..and I exercise regularly...why do I feel so damn guilty? I hate being so hard on myself but I just can't help it!
  19. I'm 4 days post op and feeling hungry. Before I was discharged my Dr. advanced me to a full liquid diet because I was handling clear fluids well. I've had a light yogurt, cream of wheat, and a protein shake today and I still feel hungry. (Keeping up with my water intake as well) Has anybody else gone through this and how did you work past it?
  20. I was about where you are 4 days ago, but today is my 15th day post-op and I turned a corner (thankfully)! I feel amazing today, minimal pain and it's the last day I have be on clear liquids. It was also my first day back to work! I'm not sure if you are on clear or full liquids? Clear liquids-drink broth, protein shakes made with water, Isopure, SF/no carb Jello, SF/no-carb popsicles. Full liquids-Drink protein with almond or skim milk (Syntrax nectar is my favorite protein-no carbs, mixes well with water or milks), low-fat creamy soups (such as low fat/low carb butternut squash soup or tomato soup or cream of broccoli soup with the chunks strained out). I use Ideal Protein or Barwise products, but you can also make your own from scratch if you have time. Soft foods phase-eat scrambled eggs or tofu, low-fat cottage cheese, low-fat SF yogurt (use Fage Greek fat free for optimal protein with low carbs). Eat only 2 oz at a time. Do not drink 30 minutes before or after you eat to train yourself to eat slowly and fill on 2 oz. If you drink while you eat, you will eat more than you should and can stretch your stomach which will ultimately lead to slowed or stopped weight loss. Eventually this will become weight gain. Phase 4-lifelong phase is food you can tolerate, only 2 oz at a time, chew/chew/chew! No beverage 30 minutes before and after eating. Set a timer on your phone to help you. Journal everything you eat to hold yourself accountable. Please let me know if you want me to email you my post-op eating plan. All the best to you! It will get better and suddenly you will feel amazing! Excellent advice - all so true!!! My Protein shake is Premier Protein chocolate and I love them. That's how I kept my protein up. At first when they were to heavy, I cut them with milk. I just got told today to only have 1 shake a day. I love them, but it will be cheaper
  21. Don't be lost. I found lots of help here but I survived on refried Beans with sour cream, panera broccoli and cheese soup (love it) and I pureed it in my Ninja blender (that was a must buy). I took foods I loved and put them in the blender. I am to old to change my ways or flavor that I love, so I made them work for me. Once I got use to eating soups/yogurt (Dannon light and creamy) it went well. Hope that helps and anytime - just let me know. It will all be worth it!!

    Liquid and being tired

Yes I think so too - I'm better today - just tired and being doing a lot of yard work with hardly any calories - this Jello and yogurt etc aint keeping a woman going strong!!

    Social Eating

While 1/2 c is typical in the beginning, you will be able to eat more as time passes. At 5 months out and 70+ lbs down, my work lunch is often something like a few slices of deli meat and a low fat Greek yogurt. I eat with the same folks everyday at work and they know about my surgery. I simply said "this is what I'm doing, so this is what you'll notice". No biggie. They were more curious than anything else and had questions which I was happy to answer. Now people who know me realize I don't give a rats *ss what they say so I have had no negative feedback. That may be a factor LOL Seriously, if I want medical advice I ask my surgeon and nutritionist. No one pays any attention to my food at lunch. Much too busy enjoying each other's company ????
  24. Yes this will be my only change bc I can't really up my calories unless I eat slider food. Everything else I can only eat a few ounces especially meat. So hopefully this will work. If it doesn't then gonna go the yogurt route. Someone on YouTube posted it and they do a yogurt day for 2-3 days and they break their stall. They use 0% Fage yogurt and mix in sugar free syrups and fruit.
  25. I actually do eat Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and tuna. Only still in small quantities.. Will try hard enough and hopefully will get there soon.. Thanks ❤️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
