Turkey Spinach Wraps: low-fat roasted turkey lunch meat, baby spinach, and 2 T. fat-free cream cheese (w/ green onions, 1 tsp. dijon, and diced red pepper mixed in) on low-carb whole wheat tortilla (these are great to make three at a time and refrigerate for the next couple days) Egg Salad (made w/ fat-free mayo) on well-toasted diet whole wheat bread. dinner is usually a free-for-all of whatever I come up with... Baked tilapia w/ dill, bbq-lemon meatloaf w/ asparagus and homemade baked sweet potato fries, baked spaghetti squash w/ a little marinara sauce... I'm still working on finding a good list of dinner-type meals.

what if i can't do it??

I started my pre-op diet 8/1--and my surgery is 9/19. Until I had a "plan" from the doctor, I was doing low carb. I like low carb. I feel good on low carb. After my initial appts, and 3 cases of Medifast later, I am on "4 Medifasts" and "one meal" a day. I find I do best if I eat (not devour...oy) my "one meal" midday. Medifast for Breakfast, Medifast for a snack. lunch. Medifast for a snack. Medifast for dinner. A yogurt as a snack later in the evening. I'm pretty sure it's going to do me in. News flash: Darragha gets trapped under 800 calories a day. Film at 11. For the love of God....someone help that poor woman! Yes, I am going crazy. Darr

  6. My name is Peter, and I'm from NYC, although I've lived in DC, FL, TX, MI, and CA. I consider NoCal to be my home. San Francisco is my favorite city in the world. I'm getting the procedure tomorrow; meeting the surgeon (Christine Ren from NYU MC) at 6am. Procedure starts 7:30am. At that hour, I doubt I'll need any anesthesia. I've been on a liquid only diet for 2 weeks. The first 5 days were one of the hardest things I've ever done, but watching the procedure done "for reals" on youtube gave me the will and resolve to stick it out on 1000 cal/day Protein shake diet. The 2 cups of veggies were the high point of my day. I've been faithful to the diet, and other than days where I probably had more like 3 cups of veggies, I have been 100% faithful to the diet. OK, there was one day I fell off the wagon and had 4 cups of veggies. My pre-op diet went something like this: Days 1-3: Agony. Pain. Like a drug addict in withdrawal. Days 4-5: Misery. Days 6-10: Much easier, but I felt like an angsty teenager, looking at a pizzeria or a deli knowing they aren't for me. I became angry with things like Subway sandwiches and yogurt. Typical "diet food" that was off limits for me. After day 10, I have to say the diet is much easier. Occasionally I feel hungry, but it almost feels natural to go for some rose-Water or some spicy broth. In all, I have lost 20lbs on this crazy diet. It's not that I'm not looking forward to eating my first pizza, but I really think the pre-op diet will make the 10 day post-op liquid diet much easier. I feel more prepared for it. Oh, I also have found the diet is MUCH easier on days I go to work. The weekends are much harder for me. I did a lot of research on bands, and decided that unless my surgeon thinks otherwise, I want the Realize-C. The reasons AGAINST the Realize-C are: 1. LapBand AP seems to have more weight loss associated with it. However, I am a mathematician, and I know claims like this are nearly meaningless. Contrary to what people say, statistics don't lie, however, you need an unbiased researcher who wants to do a good job, and this particular statistic does not come from an unbiased researcher. 2. The LB-AP is 3rd gen while the Realize-C is 2nd gen. True, but not compelling. I'm sure the Realize-C engineers had a LB-AP in their hands while contemplating the Realize-C design. 3. There is some empirical evidence that the Realize-C balloon may crease, causing saline leakage when past a fill of 9.0. However, I have full faith in my surgeon, and if she thought the risk was anything other than nearly insignificant, she wouldn't have offered it to me. There is risk in everything we do. There are numerous benefits to the Realize-C which seem compelling, but I think the port profile and insertion technique is what put me over the edge in favor of the Realize-C. So therefore, I'm going to ask her for the Realize-C unless opening me up reveals that LB-AP is a better choice. I have no number "goal" weight. My goal is to look great naked. I don't care if that puts me at 150, 180, or 200. I want to look at the mirror and say "Hell yeah, that's *my* body. Awwwww yeeeaaahhhhhhh......". I also want to be able to shop in any clothing store and be able to find clothes that fit. About a year ago, I went to H&M and not a single pair of pants fit me in the entire store. Not one. I was traumatized. So my secondary goal is to be able to find groovy clothes that fit me anywhere in any store. My last goal is to learn moderation. I want to eat a single pizza for lunch and say "You know? That was delicious and filling". Currently, even 2 pizzas would leave me hungry. I eat great food. I don't eat candy or sweets. I don't eat fast food at all. My last Big Mac was in 1986. My last KFC was in 2003, but before that, it was probably sometime in the 80's. However, I currently do not know moderation, e.g. I can eat a whole jar of Peanut Butter. I have made a few theories about weight loss in the past few weeks. I'm not sure if they're true, but it's what I've seen. 1. If you lose more than 2lbs in a day, expect diarrhea. Your body is probably in shock. 2. If you eat something, the weight you'll gain will not show up on a scale anytime soon. It takes about a day or two for the weight to fully show up. I have no idea why. It just appears to be true. 3. There is a moment in the morning where your weight is at a minimum. Past that time, even if you don't eat or drink a single solitary thing, your weight will increase. For me, that time is somewhere between 7:30am and 9:30am. Anyway, that's pretty much everything. I'm glad to have found this resource. I still have loads and loads to learn. I doubt I'll be able to meet support groups since I work in the financial district all the way downtown NYC, and sometimes I keep pretty late hours at work. But I'm hoping that forums like this will be a good substitute. Pete

    Full Liquid Diet

well i think i have to wait till the purred stage for ricotta cheese. but cottage cheese is okay, right? and if so can you eat like sugar free jams with the yogurt and cottage cheese?
  8. About Me: Pre Weight: 200lbs Height: 5”3 Post Weight: 120 (4 yrs later). Lost all my weight in the 1st year. Lowest 117, looked very sick, couldnt barely eat. Slowly got up to 128 my highest oct 2019. Then lost 8-10 lbs when started working. So my question is, what is your diet like? Calorie Intake, foods you tolerate, can”t tolerate, meal plan, how much can you eat. Me: Main things I eat 2 Toast, Egg, Cheese sandwhich, but yet I get full from just having 1/2 porkchop; Im talking the size if my palm in half by itself Weird! I used to be able to eat lots of popcorn when I could have it. Now I can barely finish a typucsl medium popcorn. I can drink pop no problem 2-3 Slices Pizza: (Depends on size) I can eat a pack of oatmeal with peanut butter. Only that. Can do coffees Can’t do Ice caps! Major sugar dump. and i cant tolerate ice cream any more can do yogurts umm typical meal: 1/4 - 1/2c Carbs, and for meats 3sm meatballs, 1 Thigh, 5 pieces of chicken fries by itself). can do half chicken breast with 1/4-1/2c rice I still dont or know how to get the carb/protein and vegetables. I just have room for the carbs/meat. Which is fine because i hate alot of veggies. And fruits; I have in smoothies; I can do around 8-16oz, depends on what I make. so in short, I still cant eat alot at once but i get hungry every 2 hours, i can do 3 if i am not working, and just being home or out and about since i cant fit in the veggies, if i didnt would be like 1/4-1/2 meat, 1/4-1/2c Pasta, potatoe, rice, and then like 2 broccoli. Whats the point if the broccolli then, especially if i favor favor the carbs and protein before tge veggies. Waste if time to cook 2-3 broccollis.. I try and get veggies in by juicing, but its a battle. So far i only like green veggies to juice. I would never eat celery, cucumber, spinach, but it took me a while to build up to be able to drink it soooo what about you?

    Hope I Haven't Goofed!

I am on a very hard pre diet. All liquids, no meat, cheese, sugar, fruits or veggies. I can have diet juices and grits, frozen lowfat yogurt, sherbert, pudding and Jello and I can have lowfat broth (Yuk) not much I like on there but I have been following it as close as possible and in 3 days have lost 4.8 pounds of what is probably Water weight. I've dranks lots of water mixed with propel and cran-grape. Here is the problem last night I realized that my cran grape juice is the lite and not diet. It only has 50 calories and no fat but has 10% sugar!!! Now I'm freaking out worried I have messed up everything due to my enlarged liver I'm really nervous and want to do everything right. Mushies - How Many Calories A Day?

My thanks to all of you who took the time to respond. I'm taking your advice to heart, because I think that I'm in starvation mode, too. I'm walking half an hour a day, so add that to the mix. I'll split my Isopure into morning and evening, add the Greek yogurt (Fage 0% fat), mix the Isopure with lowfat milk (can't handle non-fat), and just try harder, I guess. Soforreal, I'm glad that I'm not the only one struggling with this. Cowgirl, I have at least one egg (poached) a day. Love 'em. Thanks again, everyone, and have a Happy New Year!
  11. I am with you. I can't believe I'm not losing more. I had my surgery 5/4 and was then 245 (256 before the pre-op diet) and now I'm at 230. I am filled to 7.5 and eating very little. I'm having reflux at night so I will have a unfill on Monday when I see my doctor. I am at the gym 6 days a week. Zumba, strength training, etc. I can believe it's so slow. I had them do a metabolic test on me and mine is slow. Well no surprise there. The doctor suggested adding flax seed and flax seed oil and strength training. All of which I've done. I eat fish and more fish. I am having 60 grams of protein a day. Morning-greek yogurt with flax seed (20) lunch- fish (10) dinner fish (10) Finish eating by 6 then I have a shake (14) and a zone bar (14) I follow all the rules and stop eating and drinking by 8:00 Any thoughts out there.
  12. Sorry this is long, but I'm concerned.I had my very first consult with surgeon 2 days ago. We are approximately 4 months from surgery. I have been placed on a 3 month pre surgery diet. Of course when we get down to the last 2 weeks I will go the liquid route. My concern today, is this: I am T2 diabetic. I am drinking a Protein shake for Breakfast and then following meal guidelines the rest of the day. I began my day with a fasting blood sugar of 250. Took my insulin and other meds as prescribed. Drank my shake. 2 hours later I checked bs, it was down to 230, no insulin taken at this time. At lunch, 1.5 hours later.....it was 187. Took my sliding scale with lunch. 2.5 hours later checked bs, it was 56!!! I ate some fruit and a yogurt. checked it 2 hours later it was 67. ate dinner. Went to bed 4 hours later. When I got up this morning 175. I drank my shake and took my morning meds, took bs 2 hours later, 285!!! WTH? I am all over the map!! Has anyone else experience this? Should I hang in there, call surgeons office or call my endo?
  13. I do have trouble eating things that are good for me. I've had my band for almost 2 years now, and I've never really progressed out of the mushy phase. meat of any kind makes me throw up about 80% of the time, can't even think of eating things like apples. Bread, Pasta and rice are absolute no-go. What I wouldn't give for a chicken sandwich... I basically live on soup, salad and oatmeal. They can't quite figure out what the problem is with me. The band isn't too tight and my food isn't getting stuck, it just makes me so nauseated that it sends me running to the sink with the first bite. Some days it's so bad that even liquids make me hurl. It's true though, the crap foods generally will stay down somewhat better than the good foods, and you get to a point where you're so hungry, you eat whatever you can. It's not that I live on pizza and burgers, because no way they would stay down, but the less obvious crap foods like crackers, melba toast , mashed potatoes, spaghetti sauce, yogurt, gallons of crystal light and other foods which may not scream badness, but really aren't meant to make up the bulk of a diet either. They're not filling foods so I'm always hungry, but the filling foods won't stay down. Then out of the blue, I'll have a day or two where anything goes down in any quantity. On those days I'm almost normal and try to get some Protein into me in the form of chili, meatballs or fish. I still won't tempt fate with trying larger cuts of meat, breads or crunchy veggies as I'm pretty sure they still wouldn't stay down. Everybody is different and you can't really predict these things before your band goes in. You may luck out and be able to eat anything, or you may end up hypersensitive like me. I will likely end up revising to another WLS, but I'm still glad I went the band route first as the least invasive alternative.
  14. I am new here too. I am taking a 50+ multi vitamin, 1000mg of vitamin c (500 twice a day), Pepcid twice a day and biotin 1000mg once a day, all required by the surgeon prior to surgery coming up in may. I am eating a lot of veggies and have cut out bread, crackers, chips, popcorn and no sugar. I have lost 11 pounds in about 8 weeks. I can only exercise a little due to two previous back surgeries but I have a good outlook on the program. yogurt is an acceptable form of protein, I use oikos triple 0 and it is great. it does have some sugar but no added sugar. good luck and enjoy the journey.

    Heartburn/ Acid Reflux

I suffer from heartburn now, as well. I don't like takeing pills, even asprin, so I sought holistic remedies such as drinking a glass of milk, or eating greek yogurt right when the heartburn symptoms came. (This only gave momentary help.) However, after about 2 months of this Ifinally went to see my doctor (also banded) and he recommending OTC Prolisec 14 day treatment. I tried it and on the first day, the heartburn went away. Sometimes it pops up again if I eat late at night or if I eat foods that are harder to digest or spicy. For this, I take Tums and eat yogurt and drink cold water to relieve it.

    Day 3- hard time eating

Oh dear, you shouldn't even THINK about food for at LEAST a week, maybe 2! These first couple weeks are strictly to let your body calm down. Surgery of this type is like a trauma to your stomach. It's still inflamed and healing. You shouldn't consume anything but liquids. Your biggest concern is dehydration right now while you recover. Your doc or nutritionalist should have told you that in upon discharge if not before. Once you can start on puree foods (usually week 1 or 2 post op) then you can do yogurts, Protein shakes, and mushy foods. I cant stress how important it is to follow this and not push the next steps. You could make the inflamation worse, bust open your internal staples or worse. It's a long process, but totally worth it if you just are patient. As far as calories, my NUT told me that I wont have to worry about calories for about 3-6 months. That is, as long as when I do eat, I eat quality high protien foods first (not junk or processed food). Your portion sizes will be so small that food calories will probably still be less than 1000 even at 6 months. I am 3 weeks post-op and i average maybe 600-700 calories - doing nothing but protien shakes, yogurt, pruee and soft foods. I'm slowly adding more solids to my diet, and yes, it adds a few more calories, but the portion sizes are so small that it is insignificant to what I am burning just by walking. Honestly all you need to focus on is Fluid intake and protein intake. the rest will take care of itself. Good Luck!
  17. JBLady, Congratulations on making this life-changing decision. A few must haves I would recommend: Bean with bacon Soup. (Blended) I think it might be Campbells. It's really good. Gas-X dissolve strips - Helps a lot with the after surgery gas pains. sugar free popsicles and fudgesicles (for different stages) Greek yogurt - It's low fat and very high Protein. Oiko brand has a caramel version that's hard to find, but tastes amazing. These are some of the things that helped me. Good luck!
  18. Help me I'm addicted last 3 days I am having it 3-4 oz
  19. Thanks k8! It's an old nickname from college and yes...my eyes are blue. I started my pre-op diet last wednesday (2 weeks prior). It's about the same: 3 protien shakes, 1/2 oatmeal, 1 sugar-free Jello and 1 pudding,1 fat free yogurt, and 1 unsweetened applesauce. No caffeine and no soda. As for the chart, it's pretty simple to put in the tracker. Just go to TickerFactory.com to customize your weight loss tracker. It will give you the code to use for web forums and blogs. Copy this information and then go to Profile>Change Signature and add the code in the Edit Signature block. Let me know how it goes. Keep in touch. It would be great to have someone to talk to as we go through day by day.

    Sleeved 11/7, Question?

I found a milk that has 12 grams of protein ( HEB store brand) and I eat greek yogurt with only one shake a day. Pureed meat or beans for lunch and dinner. I get about 60-70 grams of protein a day. I pureed chicken with green enchilada sauce last night. It was really good! I've only tried chicken so far.
  22. I have eaten more food this last week than I have since my surgery in June 2014 and I loss a few pounds. I have been stalled for months. I know the problem has been me working out 5/6 days a week but yet not eating enough food to fuel my body. I have been afraid to eat more then a few ounces of anything. I pretty much live off Protein bars/shakes, tuna, salads, yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese, nuts, eggs, etc. This week I made it a point to eat... not just eat but eat real food and the scale finally moved. Thank Goodness!!!

    Getting vitamins down

I was told that vitamins could wait one week. As far as medication that couldn't, make sure they are broken up to be smaller than an mm candy and I would have them with yogurt. It will be easy in a couple days, just take the necessary ones till then.

  25. I haven't had popcorn. But if you eat it without butter I'd say it's probably a healthy alternative. I would imagine if your tummy can tolerate it you should be okay. A friend of mine had a Weight Watchers recipe where she put cinnamon on the popcorn. Holy cow was that good! I had it pre surgery but am thinking that might be a good snack. Another snack that I like a lot is beef jerkey. Packed with Protein and lower in calories. You have to be careful with it and not eat too much. Plus it's high in sodium so if you have any heart issues that could be concerning. But it's my go-to snack if I want something immediate. I also love greek yogurt (has to be plain with some stevia). The already flavored greek yogurt is super high in sugar so my NUT recommended plain. I add some frozen fruit and mix in the sweetener and I'm good to go with that. Bottom line, find what you like and read the label. If it doesn't fit with your nutritional goals, find something similar that does. Think before you eat. And, stop mindless eating. Your nutritionist should be able to help you walk through some good food options. if you don't have a nutritionist, get one. You need one.
