  1. My pants must sit low because they didn't bother my incisions! I am 3.5 weeks out and my largest incision still aches sometimes - but I do agree that a bit of pressure might help. I did have lots of tenderness rolling over through to the end of the second week. After that, it was much better. Hope you are feeling better soon!

    Need some exercise advise

I had my sleeve done on the 6th of November so in 2 weeks i will be cleared for exercise i thought i had it figured out what i was gonna do but the closer it gets the more uneasy i feel about it..do I just do cardio for a while? do I go straight into weight lifting? Do i just do body weight exercise? im just asking if anyone has and guidance they would like to share about getting started...I am a tall guy so that play a part into my routine I am 6'7. I am looking to get stronger and healthier get into better shape as a person. anything helps.
  3. Thanks for your encouraging post. Sadly, I've tried all different BCP's, Natural Progesterone Cream, Metformin, Acupuncture....However I haven't taken Clomid due to my extra weight. I'm thinking I may give that a try once I'm down to 215/200 or 1 year post-op at least. I know that I sometimes ovulate, and my OB-GYN thinks I have had several chemical pregnancies. Gives me hope to know that others struggled and still got pregnant. Good luck with your pre-op, it took me a year to get the courage to make an appointment, and was approved in three months, but waited six due to work/grad school/time off etc. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster three weeks, but I'm down over 25 pounds so I can't complain.
  4. My OB/GYN thinks that I have had PCOS since I was a teen/puberty. I have 4 children. This isn't me trying to boast. I'm currently on Mirena. All of the times I got pregnant I was on the mini pill. Progestin-only no other hormone. I've only conceived between these weights. 230lb to 270lb. I'm not sure how uncommon it is for that to balance someone out. During blood work, Progesterone and Vitamin D are the only levels that ever showed up alarmingly low for me. So my OB/GYN recommended Mirena instead to make sure I don't have an accidental pregnancy or trouble with continuous bleeding and sporadic periods. I feel slightly embarrassed and erroneous saying I'm technically infertile. Without the mini pill, I likely wouldn't have been able to have children. I wonder if seeing an endocrinologist specifically for fertility-related reasons would help just to raise whatever is low. I was also on 500mg of Metformin with my last baby so that may have also been at work with the progestin. I hope I'm not being offensive to you or your OB/GYN. Maybe I was just a rare case that isn't similar to most PCOS hormone imbalances. So this wouldn't be helpful at all. I just thought it might be worth a shot later on. I'm only done with the first stage of my insurance for Weight Loss Surgery. I don't have a surgery date yet. I was just told by the weight loss clinic that my file was processing this last week and I'd hear back in 2-6 weeks. I hope everything goes well for you and the weight loss is enough to right everything naturally and that you find something to prevent it in the meantime if that's what you are trying to do. ❤️

    introducing myself

Yeah, it's amazing how the feelings in your stomach change, huh? I had to do a full week of clears, 1 week of full liquids, and it's hard but I'm glad I'm doing it. No wonder if anything's not going through

    introducing myself

Hi Rachel! I'm 2 days behind you. Banded on the 14th. I'm feeling great. My port site is a bit sore still, but the other incisions are mostly healed, I guess, because I don't even feel them. I'm on liquids until next week, so its Protein shakes, Soup (no chunks) and jello/pudding for me, but I'm not hungry. I've been drinking a slim-fast or carnation instant Breakfast for breakfast, some soup around mid-day and have needed to remind myself to eat something for dinner. Now that's different! Welcome!!

Ugh! I'm in the "What If" Stage... Grrr

That is a legitimate fear, but, overwhelmingly that will not be the case. Most people recover fairly quickly from surgery and are back to normal activities within a few days to a couple of weeks. Look at the bigger what if. If you don't have the surgery and continue down the path that lead you to where you are at now. Will your quality of life be better or worse, will your lifestyle choices make you healthier or sicker, in severe cases will the what if I don't have the surgery lead to an early grave? We all have had these fears that is why we made the choice to have the surgery to get healthy and to live longer better lives. There are so many things in our lives have a what if factor, that is why you do a pro/con list and weigh our options and make an educated choice to do what is best for us. You will do fine statistically your chances of things going sideways are so low. Just make sure you follow the Dr's and Nutritionist's orders and follow your post-op bible you will be successful. Stay positive and things will work out. Good luck!
  10. Im 8 days post op and started my full Protein diet yesterday. As of right now i can tolerate tomato Soup. I drink EAS chocolate Protein shakes to get some protein in. I have found that to get even more protein I add a scoop of chocolate Protein powder to sf chocolate carnation instant Breakfast and i cant even tell i added anything. I have been struggling to get down my liquids but not becasue i cant tolerate them but because i take in air everytime i try, even if i blow it all out first. i regret it about 2 minutes after when my chest and stomach hurt. I tried cheese soup becasue i was craving cheese badly. That didnt go over so well. After i ate it i felt gross and i had alot of gas built up. I know that everybody is different and can tolerate different things. So are there any suggestions to what else i can drink while im on my full liquids? what worked for you? what didnt work for you?
  11. I am 11 weeks out. Had surgery May 20th. I'm starting to feel like myself again. The process has gone pretty well for me too. Shortly after surgery, I went thru a phase where I couldn't eat or drink anything without major stomach pains and nausea. My doc prescribed some meds to calm the acid in my stomach and I haven't had any problems since. I worry about stretching out my pouch too. The last thing I want is to waste this opportunity or gain the weight back! I just try to follow the rules and hope for the best. I'm finally starting to get my energy back so I need to really start exercising more.

    Sick before surgery

My surgery is scheduled for 5/27 and knowing my luck I am sick! I have a horrible cold. Congestion, coughing, sore thoat. I went to the dr. yesterday and they put me on antibotics. My surgery is a week and 1 day away!!! I am sure I am praying that I will be well before then. How long does your Dr. require you to be better before surgery?
  13. LOL, I know how you feel. I was on pins and needles the whole time waiting to hear back.... I started to annoy my nutritionist and the insurance company, vowing to call or email them twice a week until I heard back. It worked. PS - Would that be Boba Fatt in your icon?
  14. Maureen - The RN in my clinic just made a lot of suggestions for added protein as I progress to puréed foods. (Yay!) 1) Greek yogurt and protein drink added to a fruit smoothie 2) Applesauce with cottage cheese (I had it tonight, heavenly!) 3) Mashed potatoes with chicken breast (puréed for now).

  16. Hey everyone! It has been about a month since I have last posted my success and wanted to share it with my WLS family. I am so excited to be down 85 pounds and am 2 pounds shy of being under 300 pounds for the first time in 26 years!! Hope you like my video, please subscribe and follow my success. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thanks for watching, Kim
  17. The first four days I was on completly clear liquids only. I was drinking ISOPURE drinks that are clear grapefrost 40grams of protein but really expensive. I was also aloud s/f popsicles, jello, and chicken broth. Than I was aloud full liquids after that until last week when I could start eating canned, tuna, canned chicken, pudding, protein shakes, bocca burgers, and some ground meat. I hope that helps.
  18. Congratulations and hope you have a speedy recovery!! Soup broth, Protein shakes, sugar free popsickles, milk. Yes the "windy" pains are normal. I was told that the air usually settles on the left side (shoulder) and it proved to be true for me. It decreased after about 2 1/2 weeks and was compeltely gone in about a month. I didn't have stitches, I had glue and steri-strips. So I was able to shower after 24 hours.
  19. I have been using oxygen as well as the "Airlife' you breathe into once every hour, walking etc, following Dr's Orders exactly. I have a ton of gunk in my lungs, is this a bad sign, is it normal, did this happen to anyone else? When will it go away and is there anything else I can do?
  20. Thanks for the article @Matt Z. I saw this study a while back and was convinced that daily weighing could stay. I think it really helps me. It can be a head-trip when the scale makes me its little bi*ch, but I just have to suck it up and get on with life. I do think it holds my feet to the accountability fire though and for that I'm very grateful! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4380831/ @Green_Tealael, this study used men and women... Methods Study Design As previously stated, we present a secondary analysis from the WEIGH study. A detailed description of the study design, intervention and report of the main outcomes has been previously published.9 Briefly, eligibility criteria included adults aged 18–60 years, body mass index (BMI) of 25–40, Internet access, and no medical conditions that might affect participation. Participants were recruited predominantly from the Chapel Hill, NC area. Following eligibility screening, informed consent was obtained and baseline measures were collected. Participants (N=91) were then randomized to a 6-month daily self-weighing intervention (n=47) or a delayed intervention control group (n=44). All participants were reassessed at 3 and 6 months. Data collection occurred from February to August 2011 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill institutional review board approved and monitored the study. Measures Demographics At baseline, a variety of demographic variables were collected to help characterize the sample including age, sex, race/ethnicity (American Indian/Alaskan Native; Asian; Black or African-American; Hispanic, Latino, Portuguese, or Cape Verdean; White; Other), and education [Grade School (6 years or less); Junior High school (7–9 years); High School (10–12 years); Vocational Training (beyond High School); Some College (less than 4 years); College/University degree; Graduate or Professional Education].
  21. Hi All, Please help I am 2 months post opp. this week. My meals consist of very little food (which I understand and I am happy with). Mornings would be egg on toast (one quarter), lunch for the most part quarter glass of milk to get tablets down and then supper would be a little experimentation such as possible chicken or pie (small portion). The problem is that I do not need to ever use the bathroom (which is fine being that I am eating less) but then suddenly one day I would have to rush off with a mixture of diarrhoea and normal stomach. I usually counteract this with immodium This is normally followed by a week of nothing and then the same story again. I am obviously doing something to irritate my stomach but because I work on the road this type of unexpected problem needs to be avoided. Need to mention that I was a ex. bandster and I wonder if the carbs could have some contribution (had no carbs for 5 years) Any advice will be helpful Regards Andre ps I drink coffey and tea during the day, I know "liquids in - liquids out" but how do you avoid this :party4:

    Spilling the beans

I have only told 2 people in office at this point and like you there is a group of us who work closely and some of us eat together in the cafeteria everyday. The pre-op diet hasn't been bad, I have just been saying I am on a doctor supervised plan, with high Protein and I am telling them how much I lose each week. I haven't given them the opportunity to speculate about it. My surgery was originally going to be the 11th but the doctor wanted me to continue the pre-op for a few more weeks. The challenge for me is going to be returning to work while in week two full liquids. I can always bring yogurt or cream Soups or broth and they may not question it along with my already standard Protein shakes. I know it must be hard in such a small office but if they see you doing stuff pre-op with protein shakes and whatnot and you just come out and say you are on a diet supervised from your doctor, they may not think anything of it. I too said I was going on vacation and when I come back and continue to lose weight perhaps they won't be surprised since they knew I was trying and was losing beforehand. Your situation is definitely more complex because of the roommate. Stay positive and don't let it worry you. And if they do find out or you do decide to tell them, their opinion or comments don't matter. All that matters is you and you should be comfortable with your decision to do this. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about it.
  23. Even happier now as I'm at 39 pounds as of today...almost 11 weeks out. It goes by so darn fast!
