    Crazy Ates Weight Loss Totals

Nana I've only lost 20 but my port flipped the week after surgery and didn't have the revision until december. So you're not in last place I must say that I have found my stride the past month though and the weight is finally coming off.

    Hi from Ireland!

Hi Coco, Sorry to hear of your troubled band. I know of another person that had to have a revision done and her new band is great and shes back on the loosing side now. You have done so great so far with your weight loss. Just think of this as a vacation from the band. Absence makes the heart or band grow fonder soon your band will be back in full force working for you again. Keep posting it helps the process to get it out. We all care about your outcome and will be watching. Chin Up, Your in my prayers. Sheila

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Hey girl, e-mail me eilselg@aol.com and we can catch up more. I ended up having revision to RNY in August. I'm down almost 50 pounds and am finally doing well. The surgery ended up more complicated than we thought. My original surgeon decided to stitch my port to my RIBS in my chest so it took over an hour to remove it (and it was flipping) - I was a big MESS...the rest of the surgery took a couple more hours. I ended up having to have mini-open and have had a lot of healing issues and drainage issues...it has taken me two months to heal and for the drain (originally the size of a quarter) to heal...not been fun...I go back to my surgeon next week and hopefully he can clear me to start exercising :-) Im doing well other than that. Personally - life couldn't be better...been thinking of you and hoping you are well. How are you? How's life? Miss you and miss the group here. I've tried to join other support groups and there is not nearly the support...many seem downright catty (which isn't right). Alex has started RNY Talk for by-pass patients but it doesn't seem to want to take off... Write when you can! Sis

    Hi from Ireland!

A kind soul sent me a list of questions, and I've taken them and added a few and tweaked the list, here it is: Questions to ask during consultation: 2) Research the doctor. What kind of follow up care is provided? (ie: fills, unfills, endoscopies, fluroscopies, port revisions, removal, etc). Ask to speak to about 5 or 6 of his patients before you make a decision. Ask those people if they have any complaints or issues with their care before, during and after the procedure. How many of the procedures has he done? What types of complications can occur from this procedure and how frequently do they happen? (ie: perforations, etc) What types of complications has he personally ran into doing this procedure? What is his policy when a complication occurs during a procedure? (ie: does he discuss options with family or immediately convert to bypass or other WLS). Is he Inamed approved for the procedure? If not then who qualified him to perform the procedure and can you have literature to verify this? 3) Research the procedure. How is the procedure performed? Will you use the Pars Flaccida approach? What type of sutures do you use? Can I request glue and not staples? Will I have a catheter placed? If I am on my menses, can I wear a tampon? What will I need to have prepared when I get home in way of food items? What are the short term issues? What are the long term issues? How will I be able to take my pills? Will you write today for liquid pain meds? Do you want me to take antibiotics post-op? If so, will you write for Diflucan? 4) Follow up care. What is the schedule for fills? When can I get my first fill? How is the fill procedure performed? (ie: with or without fluroscopy) What is the cost for fills? (under fluro and not) How often will I need to be seen? Will I have access to a Nutritionist? How do you handle unfills? Is there a direct line in case of Emergencies? Does your doctor have email address? Should I continue to take Metformin? What Vitamins should I be taking? Will I need to crush my pills? If so then for how long? Are there any pills that cannot be crushed? If so then how will I be able to take them?

    August Sleevers Check In

Hello Everyone.... August 7th is my day. I am a band to sleeve revision. Got my band in 2007 and did really great until it slipped 3 years ago. Insurance is paying for the band removal and I am paying for the sleeve. I am so ready, I loved my band as a tool, and am looking forward to having the sleeve as a lasting tool. I start the liquid pre op diet in 3 days, ready. Good Luck all Laura

Too Much Scar Tissue For Vsg?!

My doctor did tell me that there is of course an increased risk of leak due to scar tissue. WE discussed VSG vs. RNY and ultimately I decided VSG was right for me because long term is safer than RNY. I didn't want to deal with malabsorbption or dumping syndrome. I had my band removed and revised to the sleeve in one procedure on May 29th. It took 2 hours longer than normal because of scar tissue but surgery went well and Im not having any problems.

    August Sleevers?

I was revised from band to sleeve on 8/26..I live in South NJ..I had my surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. I did awesome! No problems. I was sore first few days..able to get fluids and protein in from the start. Went back to work after 8 days. Walking 30 minutes per day. I'm still on full liquids.. I can't wait to start puréed this week..I'm still a little sluggish..my head is ready to get up and go but my body is saying relax and let me heal!! My incisions are almost healed (they were glued). I feel good!!

    Denied By BCBS HELP

Bcbs denied my revision two days before my scheduled surgery (I had already been on the livershrink diet for two weeks). I fought them all summer, but finally it was a combination of hiring a Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy lawyer and my surgeon doing a peer-to-peer that got them to overturn the decision and pay for the surgery. I had jumped through all their hoops- six month doctor-supervised diet, etc. Don't give up hope! Denials can be overturned.
  13. Had my lap band 2011, just had my revision October 1st. Could use someone to talk to that has had revision. I have some post op questions? Also help entry of my weight and surgery date in my profile? Anyone can help a girl out??

    Low Carb Banders Unite

Kiki -- Welcome , I'm pretty new here myself. There's loads of info and support! Please stick around! And congrats on your success! Denise -- The caramel nut chews are in the snack/treat category. I haven't tried any of the Atkins protein bars, yet. I'll have to try the nougat for sure, thanks! I, too, have a problem with constipation. As a matter of fact, I've not been quite right since being banded May 9th. But it definitely worse since I began low carb. I tried some Miralax today, so I'm playing the waiting game for now. I mixed shook it to death in a bottle of Diet Green Tea and it dissolved into nothing! (Which is great because I have a huge texture-phobia and the slightest hint of grain on my tongue would have had me heaving!) Sure hope this stuff works. That could drop off a pound or two! Renewed -- the nutritional content I gave you earlier for the Caramel nut chews are a bit different from the box i just picked up at walmart. And the price was MUCH cheaper. The one I ate earlier was sold as a single at CVS and almost twice the cost per bar. Maybe the pack I just bought is the new revised version? The calories are a bit lower, everything else a bit higher, net carbs are the same. Go figure.

    WHY?

For me the sleeve appears to the the right decision. Granted I’m 4.5 months out and I’m way ahead of the avg loss numbers. I was already lactose intolerant so that wasn’t t a concern. I rarely got heartburn prior to my sleeve and think I’ve had maybe 4 flair ups (too many spicy foods). It came down to how much the malabsorption scares the crap out of me and rerouting my insides when I know I’m an ugly scarrer was enough to tip me to sleeve. Going in based on what I needed to loose the avg lbs difference between the options wasn’t significant enough to deal with malabsorption. I also have 4 friends at different points in post sleeve surgery. One is extremely successful. One is still loosing but doing really well. Another was a band to sleeve revision and is the least successful. Lastly is someone who is fighting regain 2 years out. This gave me a realistic view of what is possible and what is needed to meet goal. Can I self sabotage? Sure I could and maybe someday I might but I have different tools I didn’t have before. Will they work? Time will tell.

    WHY?

Very very true But what comfort does someone who's surgery failed their expectations get if that surgery was never right for them in the first place (not by my standards, by close evaluation of all data)? Just have a revision? Thats what people are doing ...

If you don't mind me asking, how much is the revision going to cost out of pocket?

    August Sleevers Check In

Had my post opt visit with my Surgeon yesterday. It went really well. When I had talked to him before surgery, one of my concerns was that I was a lapband revision to sleeve patient, and I had heard that because of this I would not loose as fast or as much weight as a regular sleeve patient. He told me that he just did not see that to be true. He said that each patient looses different, it has not been proven that the lapband revision has any bearing on that. Well, yesterday I had lost 19 lbs since starting the pre op diet. And he was very pleased, he said that the most he has every expected anyone to loose was 20 lbs. Then he told me "See, I told you that the lapband revision would not hold you back. Just say positive and keep up the good work." Very excited, came home and started to clean out my closet, already have some thing that I do not intend to wear again. My big moomoo dress, looks like it was made by Omar the Tent Maker. LOL Good luck to everyone where ever you are on this wild ride!!! Laura

    starting over with lapband

I don't want to revise because I don't want to drop below 150 so my mindset is firm and I want this so its time to use my band what is for a tool. But I originally lost 50, I also was dealing with thyroid issues the past year and I recently had my thyroid removed. I also don't want to revise because I am scared of the complications.

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Hi all.. I started at 255 lbs at pre-op. In March 2014 I stopped losing weight when I hit 191 lbs and I have remained here ever since. Its debilitating. I follow all the rules. I do have some food off plan but as my surgeon said, what I eat should not be making me stop losing weight. I am always hungry. Can eat anything and everything. Sugar makes me dump so I stay away from it. I struggle with my appetite just as I did prior to surgery. I am forever grateful I have not gained any weight back. In October my surgeon is sending me for a barium swallow test to see if structurally there is any reason I have stopped losing weight. It seems pointless as he also explained there is nothing to be done anyway. He is not keen on endoscopic revision to make the stoma smallet (if thats the issue). He did tell me not to worry and that I may continue to lose further. My goal weight was 170. Im so happy to see everyone's success. .I do wish I was experiencing the same thou!

    January Surgery Bandsters Group

Hi I'm new to this forum, but could use a little support and ideas. I was banded in March 2011. I weighed 224 the day of my surgery. I got to 165, which was my initial goal (tho I later revised that to 155). I held that weight within a pound or 2 for about 7-8 months. I then started having extreme reflux and had an upper gi test done. It showed my band was way too tight so we let a little Fluid out. About that same time my dad was diagnosed with leukemia and it was a very stressful time for me. This was all started about 12 months ago. I have gained about 15 lbs and I am so unnerved about it, I can't seem to get it off. The stress eating kicked in when my dad was sick and now it's like that is all I can eat. I haven't had a fill since May 2013 because I don't want to be too tight again. Some days the bad feels just right, other days I feel like I can eat anything. I have this "brain hunger" even when I am full or have something stuck and have had to vomit I still think I am hungry, I think that is the stress and also the fact that I am upset about the weight and its just messing with me.....If anyone has any ideas, I could use the support to reset myself and get back on track. Thanks
