    May 2007 Banders

Hello all, I have been absent for a few days as I have been sick! Still am...have the crud! I just wanted to say hello to everybody. I am too busy here at work to read back and see who all has been posting but, I am just glad you all are here. I hope this blog goes on forever. I always worry that people will drop out and once we all loose our wght..that we won't need each other anymore. I know I will. NSV!!!! I had to go to Target yesterday to buy a presant for my daughter and I passed these cute Trouser Jeans on the rack in the junior dept. Well, I have been wanting a pair because they are the nice dark ones that look like slack that you can wear on Casual Fridays at some work places. Well, I really didn't have the xtra money at this time but I wanted to try them on anyway to see how they looked. I grabbed the 14's and went in and tryed them on. Too big! I had the sales lady go get me the next lowest size...a 12! They fit perfect! Let me tell you, it took all of my will power not to buy them just because they had a 12 tag in them. I figured that I could buy them after Christmas if they are still there. I am on cloud nine...a size 12! I am sure it was just the brand but...a size 12! Happy Happy Joy Joy.. Doin the happy dance Weazer Merry Christmas and Blessings to you all and your families! Weazer

    NSV (Non Scale Victories)

Hi everyone. This is so much fun! I have an XL jersey on today with size 20 pants. I started at 3X and 26/28! I can put on my sneakers and tie them without sitting down too! Yippee! Everybody keep up the good work and the nsv's will continue. Sue

    Christmas Doggies!

Wow, so many compliments, I don't know where to begin! I think Mr. Longhorn is kinda cute, too. He's a remodeling contractor so every bit of our house has been remodeled. That floor behind us is a recycled high school gym floor. And we laid the tile ourselves. We've always had a lot of dogs so the carpet had to go! I do look thinner in that picture than I really am. I think Corky is helping to hide me. And I'm 5'8" with a large frame (size 11 shoes!) so I can carry more weight than others. I'm only posting my official weight but my scales say I'm down to 208, a few pounds less than at the doctor's last week. That top in the picture is an NSV, though. When I first ordered it from Coldwater Creek a few months before my surgery, it didn't fit, but it fits great now! Thanks for your kind comments!

    What's wrong with me?

NSV is a non scale victory

    What's wrong with me?

Pardon my ignorance, but what is an NSV?

    What's wrong with me?

That's a lot of NSV's. Everyone loses at different rates. If you can start excercising, that will make a big difference. I really have to force myself to do it because I hate it as well. Good luck to you.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

I'm back again! Church service went very well. Now it's on to Penneys to see if I can find a long coat. My one from last year... the last 5 years actually, doesn't fit anymore. I have cinched it in as much as possible and still I'm swimming in it.. woooo hooo NSV!! We're also going to get some more ingredients to make more fudge... can you believe we forgot several people.. arghhhhhhhh Sooooooo we'll be cookin' again today. More temptation.. but I think I can handle it with this fill. Catch everyone later.. Cindy.....5# is normal.. and will come off much easier with the band than without! As long as you had a good time.. can't wait to hear about it! TTFN.......

    What's wrong with me?

NSVs-Off diabetes medication, blood pressure and heart rate under better control, more energy, asthma/lung wheezing is gone.....yes, when I look at it that way, I have had a lot of NSVs but I just thought I would have lost more weight by now. I'm not exercising. I know I should be but I hate it so much. My husband is supposed to try to adjust the belt on our treadmill. Right now it slips a lot when I'm walking on it and I am afraid I will fall. I'm wondering if I weigh too much to be on it but I think the weight limit is 275 and I weigh about 264.

    What's wrong with me?

Mandi, what about NSVs? any of those? please dont get discouraged. what are you eating? are you logging? exercising? you can do this!! the people who have lost more, did they start out needing to lose more weight? i started off at 402 so the weight came off pretty quickly in the beginning...
  10. losingjusme

    Motivate Me

lulu, are you logging your food and exercise? i find when i dont log, i dont lose. i literally log everything that goes in my mouth - even if it is one Herhsey's kiss, one cracker, etc... give me an few samples of what you eat, how hard and long do you work out? how many times a week do you REALLY break a sweat? i was 402 pounds when i started, so the weight did come off fairly quickly in the beginning, but now it's a struggle. i am seeing the inches, but not the pounds.. dont discount NSVs!! those are my saving grace when i dont see the numbers on the scale move. keep it up.
  11. luluc

    Motivate Me

im not trying to be bitchy, but really ... 99% of the successes on this board exercise. it not only helps with health, it helps mood as well. you can do this!! Question, When does the scale MOVE? I have been so good since the day I got home from being banded, food & Exercisce wise.. Gave up my chips, martinis, cake & diet cokes ., and replaced with exercise 5/6 days a week. I was banded the same day as DH, so the house is completely swept of crap food / drink to avoid temtation of any kind. I bought us gym memberships last Feb when we decided to go with the band, and I didn't enter back until 4 wks out of surgery. I'm getting a little frustrated with the damn scale not moving. I'm not starving, don't over eat, eat healthy high Protein 3 meals a day, drink more Water than a camel should need and I'm ready to SCREAM. Not going to give up, just like the motivation in the scale variety. I go for my third fill next wk, maybe that will kick drive things? I recognize NSV in clothes / face etc.....just like to see the lbs start to fall off faster - How long did it take most of you exercising / dieting for the weight to melt away? Appreciate the feedback, off to the gym and the trainer from hell (thankfully he's cute:)) Lulu

    For Just Us Guys

Hi guys, Not sure if this belongs in the SV/NSV post, but I wanted to let the newbies know that the band offers a real solution. As of yesterday, I'm down 80 pounds! It takes a certain level of commitment to achieve results, but the band certainly makes it a LOT easier. Matt

    Slow Losers - Unite!

uh..bodonkadonkbutt (spelling) suggested that i join this thread because i have posted elsewhere about my frustrations. i apologize if i am being repetitive, but i did not have time to read all 91 pages (wow..you guys are great). so, i was banded 10-18. my real name is tabatha. i live in arkansas...and i now currently weight 225 and my starting weight was 222. so, if my calculations are correct, my average weight loss is +0.375 per week. (on average, rounding to 8 weeks). can't wait until that loss is really a loss. at this point, i would love to be a slow loser, but right now i am a slow gainer..lol. little background. i had my first fill 3 weeks ago..i got 6.5 cc's. i'm not sure what size my band is b/c my doctor's office says i have a 10cc apl band, and that isn't possible, and i cannot get them to clarify. i missed my 2nd fill because i was sick with a bowel obstruction. i have a sweet tooth, and i'm working on that. there has been improvement. i was not drinking with meals at all at first, and then i would take a sip, and now i'm back down to nothing. i'm not exercising. and i'm not food journaling. i have absolutely no restriction though, i can eat 4 pieces of pizza easy and then be ready for more in 2 hours. i don't like to journal when i'm hungry all the time..at first it was fun because i wasn't starving so i could concentrate. so, i'm not losing for all the same reasons that i wasn't before i got the band. then i got the band, and i'm still now losing. my doctor tells me to be patient, and i am. i have posted some things though, but it just seems to me that unless you are a slow loser or are not losing at all then it is difficult to understand how i must feel. oh..uh..i did lose 12 lbs. post op, but gained back and then some. as for nsv's..well..i had one when i had lost and that was that i didn't have edema. now..however...i do not have any nsv's from gaining. i look forward to being in your group..as much as i hope to one day break out of your group. if i don't, now i know where i can find support. thanks tabatha (i'm 5'2", 25, from arkansas)

    NSV (Non Scale Victories)

So... I finally have some NSV's. - Buddy at work yesterday tells me that there is a big difference since he started here. He started 2 days before my Sx, he didn't even see me at my max weight. - I had to buy new jeans the other day. Size 48 instead of 54! - Speaking of jeans... I got into some old 46 waist jeans!!! Still a tad too tight though - I just realized this morning that I have not had PIZZA in over a month! Ya know what? I don't miss that feeling of eating an entire large pizza in one sitting! And what happens the next day.

    Who's benig banded on 11/20???

Taking some Time... It’s a crisp, sunny Wednesday here, 68° and I am going to take a little personal time while at work and spend a few minutes with all of you. I’ve kept up with all the posts on this thread even though I haven’t written in a week. I hope everyone who hasn’t been writing is doing well. A Month Out I can’t believe that tomorrow (for many of you) and the day after tomorrow (for me) will mark one month since we were banded. This is the biggest change in my life in many years, no doubt about it. So much has changed that I can’t believe it’s only been a month, after years and years of basically hitting my head against the same wall. I truly feel that I have been given a new lease on life. Here are some of my NSVs: I eat much, much less than I did before the operation. I stay full for hours, rather than having a bottomless pit in my stomach. I no longer binge at nights, something I did every night for years. Consequently, I no longer spend my morning hours trying to function and put up a front while recovering from the physical and emotional devastation of the previous night’s binge. I have binged once during the day (more on this later) this month, rather than bingeing at least once every day for years. I no longer obsess about food all the time. My body feels like a whole lot of air has been let out of it. Any kind of movement– walking, bicycling, standing up, sitting down, scratching my back, tying my shoes, and performing various sanitary and hygienic functions – is accomplished much easier than just a month ago. I’m also no longer out of breath all the time and don’t sweat all the time. I no longer obsess about food all the time – in fact, most of the time, I’m oblivious to it. I Don’t Eat Clay I have to add here that I work in the reception center of our guest rooms, where we serve homemade cheesecake, apple pie, and chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, milkshakes, omlettes and grilled cheese sandwiches. I love my job, but it has been a nightmare trying, and consistently failing, to stay clear of all that’s available here. But for the last month, I have succeeded in doing so. The analogy that has come to my mind is that of a potter, who works day in and day out with clay, but never thinks of putting any of it in his mouth. That’s what food is nearly always for me now – just clay, just something that’s part of the work or home environment, nothing worth spending any time thinking about. Paying for the Party My one binge was last Friday; we had a big party at work and I was meticulously abstemious – I really didn’t resent, either. But, when I went home for lunch, I lost it – just kept eating, nothing that I couldn’t swallow but a lot of soft stuff. My wife, who rarely has commented to me about my bingeing, told me the next morning that she was worried that this was just going to be another phase, another failed solution. That really was hard to hear – especially because, of course, it’s my own deepest fear. It doesn’t surprise me that all my “reasons” for not indulging in this behavior again didn’t work – that’s the nature of the beast. But I know that every day of eating with my band will reinforce new behaviors and a new physical reality which will make my binges less and less frequent until I just don’t do it anymore. I know that one thing I could’ve done at the party was to just have a little bit of ice-cream so I wouldn’t feel “deprived”, but there are some foods which have such powerful associations for me, like ice cream, that I just don’t see myself stopping with such a small amount; I’d rather have none. I can’t defend this thinking, but that’ s the way it is for me right now. What’s on the Menu… Anyway, since then, everything’s been great. My meals this month have panned out something like this: I have a glass of buttermilk in the morning, a cup or two of soup in the evening (no cream or milk based soup, no noodles, just veggies) and for lunch (the main meal here) a salad sized plate of steamed vegetables, in between 2-3 oz of chicken, fish or beef and tablespoon sized dollops of salad, and hummus. I don’t drink for an hour before or after meals, and suck on sugar free candies to help get me by. That's all for now - hope to write again soon - lots of love and encouragement and good luck to you all,

November Nymphs Lets Talk Weight Loss!

Haha. The first step in using yer business is being able to see it. Weight loss has got to be the magic charm for that. What a great NSV that will be. LOL.
  23. Wow, Laura -- what an adventure! But glad it was fun & congrats on the NSV!! Thanks for the info, kat... that sounds reasonable... if all goes well, I'd guesstimate I'll be 225-range sometime March-ish... maybe that can be my -100 goal "prize" to myself!

Brandy - Yes I wouldn't mind being 24 again - but I would want to know what I know now - youth is wasted on the young... No offense Dini but you still have a lot to learn (or well most 24 yr olds do)... GREAT NSV XTRA SMALLL OMG - WHATS THAT Peaches - we are all human - even skinny people over eat sweets this time of yr - ya gotta do like me and have a plan - ok I will eat these Cookies but tonite infront of the t.v. instead of just sitting I will stand and walk in place - do you know that figgeters burn more calories than those who sit still... Get up and move - put some little weight by your couch and do arm exercises - while watching t.v. - also - if you have sweets during the day - then cut the carbs from your dinner.. You can do this - you really can - So far I have just said no to my drug of choice but ask me on Sunday how I did after making cookies on Saturday.. Peaches - I really dislike women who do this just to go to the BEACH OMG come on now ... They look so fake - I really hate that whole fake persona = e being on the prowl- if they don't like me in my beach attire tough luck... I understand going out at nite and taking your time to get ready cuz you are suppose to look good - but again - I sure and the hell don't ever want to come off as a desparate divorcee - Love the Canuks humor...

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Good morning Vi's!! Just finished catching up. denise, the pic you posted of you won't load for me.. I wanna see!! Repost!! Your DD is beautiful! Well our trip went.. like our trips normally go LOL. We were leaving at 8am on Saturday. DH & I struggled to be up, showered and ready by then, we ended up at my parents house at about 9am. Last minute, while we're drinking coffee and heading out the door, my mom decides she wants to go after all. So we wait for her to pack, we hit the road. It's been 70's in Florida, so we were anticipating walks on the beach. My g'parents needed their 2nd car brought down, so me & DH drove their lincoln, and my parents led the way. Not 30 minutes out of town, it starts pouring.. raining cats & dogs!!! It's normally a 6.5 hour drive.. it took us nearly 10. We hit thunder storms everywhere. The lincoln's windshield wipers didn't work well, and the headlights don't seem to shine on the ground.. so we held our breath a lot, hoping we lived to get there. Somewhere around Dothan, AL we hit a tornado warning. Cars were pulling off, so we found a Barnes & Nobles to hang out in. I was soaking wet by time we got inside. I found Rosie O'Donnell's new biography of what happened with the View, so I got that.. and then another biography called Stolen Lives. Rosie's one is just sad, she is so 'out there' for me (I am republican and she is just a liberal looney toon). But it was interesting to see her take on what happened. I am 3/4 through the 2nd one, and OMG.. it's a true story about the family of a general in Moscow, and the dad tried to assassin the King.. the King killed him, and imprisoned his family (Mom, 5 kids.. ages 18 years old to THREE years old) for 20 years before their release. Not a normal prison. A place in the middle of the desert, they starved them, beat them, isolated them from each other.. the 3 year old grew up and never knew what life outside of this was. I am to a point where they are breaking out of one of the prisons. The 3 year old is now 17. It's horrific, I can't believe these things can happen. I plan to try to finish it before work is over. Ok back to the trip.. we cross into Florida and the news comes on the radio saying Tornado warning in Bay county. IRONICALLY as we hear this, we pass a sign saying "Welcome to Bay County". UGH. We decided to just keep going.. 35mph in terrential rain at night with no good headlights or wipers. We finally get there, and the rain has stopped at the condo. It's in the 70's, feels great. We went to a fancy steak house.. I got some filet mignon medallions with shrimp, lump crabmeat & bernaise sauce on them. NUM NUM. Each medallion was 3oz.. I ate 1/2 of one (slow slow slow) took me an hour, but I was determined to eat it. I also ate 1 of the shrimp. We went to bed, tired from the day. We wake up the next morning with plans to go to the beach.. and it's 30's!!!! IT WAS SO COLD AND WINDY!!!! BAH. DH Has never seen a beach. We went to some souvenir shops in the morning, then we went to lunch.. then we went putt-putting (in big coats). Then me, DH and mom went walking the beach.. in the freezing cold. We even got in the water to our waist (was suppose to be knees, but the tide came in). Got some seashells.. was fun.. and cold! On our way back to the condo we got in the heated pool to rinse the sand off and warm up. Then we watched the survivor finale. Poor Denise!!!!! I almost cried for her, poor nice lady. I can't believe Todd won. But out of Todd, Amanda and Courtney I didn't want any of them to win. I couldn't believe how much weight Courtney put on after the show, she finally looks normal!! Then we drove home yesterday. Lots of sunshine but still cold, and it's cold back home now. No snow weather of course, but it's so cold it hurts. I did have an NSV in Florida.. I have never been able to wear girlie jewelry.. they don't fit my wrist or neck. But at some of the beach shops, they had really pretty leather bracelets for women, and the woven ones, etc. And every single bracelet I tried on, even the buckled ones.. FIT! I'm wearing one now. I was so excited I bought 3 different leather ones.
