    Eating Anxiety...

That is not enough food or nutrition for my 3 year old granddaughter. I was an anorexic teen because I did not want to be 300-500 pounds like the rest of my family. It eventually caught up with me, but that's another story and why I had a sleeve. Anyway, my doc has limited me to 600-800 calories, which must MUST MUST include 80 grams of Protein. You had better believe I have gone back to tracking because I do not want to fall into that fear of food ever again. See a psychologist. You are wasting away and are succumbing to unhealthy patterns. This is all about being healthy and happy. Good luck, and let us know how you do.

    Puréed stage?

I have avocados ripening on my counter now plan to try refried Beans with salsa, sour cream, avocado, etc. next week. I also plan to puree a few pieces of cooked shrimp and mix with mashed avocado and lime. You could also puree chili and top with the same kind of stuff. Have you tried ricotta cheese? Just google "ricotta bake WLS" for a recipe but basically you can put a scoop of ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella and some marina sauce in the micro or in a casserole dish and bake it for a noodle-less lasagna type of dish. I plan on trying a recipe for buffalo chicken casserole soon - just taking out any noodles or grains and using ground turkey. I guess then it is more of a dip? You could turn just about anything into a pureed food. There are lot of idea on pinterest.

    10 Days Since Scale Moved!

    Gastric Bypass July 22

Welcome and good luck with your upcoming surgery. I had to do a 2 week pre-op diet and did fine. I was resolved to make this a success story and decided I could do anything for 2 weeks. I was also excited to lose a bit on the diet so that was a win! My only advice is to watch who you take advice from. You will see everyone's plan on here is different from all the different surgeons and nutritionists. Follow your own surgeon/nutritionist plan. It will work, they have lots of experience at this. Stick to your plan and you WILL make it. When it gets tough, think about why you are doing this, for yourself and your kids. The first few days after surgery can be trying. Hang in there and drink as much as you can, it gets better every day. Every day gets better and soon you will be sailing along amazed at how you feel and almost forgetting what a radical surgery you had, so don't forget to get rest for healing. Good luck and wishing you a smooth surgery! You can do this!!!
  5. I dont know what is wrong with me. I feel like i am holding back vomiting all the time now. Nothing helps me either, the only time I feel better is early morning when nothing is in my stomach. I have been taking my vitamins and 40mg of prilosec a day. And now with this nausea I am drinking even less water a day then normal. Im trying to get a doctors appt today.
  6. I'm actually on Day 3 - I started this on Monday with a few friends. Frankly, I enjoy squats, it's Burpies and Push-ups that I can do without!

    2 weeks!

In two weeks I am having surgery and I am ecstatic! I start my liver reduction diet tomorrow and am looking forward to changing my life! What are some tips for the hospital? What things should I bring, and what things will I not need? Also, any tips or tricks that helped you post-op to make the process smooth let me know!

    Getting vitamins down

What pills? If they are for high blood pressure or something like that you need to do it, but if you are stressing of a daily multi, or some vitamin D, well those can wait for your esophagus and stomach to heal for a week. And calcium can wait two weeks.
  9. The holiday season always comes up faster than expected. That is even true this year when so many other things have been different. It is time to start thinking about gifts for the people you love. If they include bariatric surgery patients who are pre or post-op, we have the perfect gifts for you. First up are something your loved one is sure to love: favorite desserts. If they are missing creamy, starchy, sugary foods, you can be the one to give them their faves without guilt. Here are just a few favorite desserts you can gift this year! Gingerbread Cake Mix Nothing says, “Happy Holidays!” like gingerbread, but can your bariatric surgery friend really afford to be eating gingerbread this year? Yes, she certainly can if you give her a high-protein, low-carb version such as BariatricPal Gingerbread Mug Cake Mix. It has 130 calories, 12 grams of protein, and 1 gram of sugar. Even better than giving ready-made gingerbread cake or cookies, giving Gingerbread Cake Mix lets the recipient make it herself, which means the delicious smell of cinnamon and ginger can waft through the house. It is easy to make just by mixing a packet with water and microwaving it. Each box contains 7 packets. Creamy Cheesecake Cheesecake is not the standard choice for a smart dieter, but BariatricPal High Protein Creamy Cheesecake is no standard cheesecake. It has about half the calories, saturated fat, and sugar as the same size serving of regular cheesecake, along with 12 grams of protein to make it more filling. If cheesecake isn’t cheesecake without the graham cracker crust, you can easily make your own without adding the 20 grams of carbs per serving that a traditional one has. Just crush sugar-free Catalina Crunch Keto Cereal - Honey Graham instead of graham crackers to use in the crust. Each serving has 10 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber. You can make an entire cheesecake using 7 servings of Creamy Cheesecake mix, or make your cheesecake in muffin cups for single servings. Each box has 7 servings. Pumpkin Spice Blondie A bariatric surgery patient could feel a little down after an entire autumn of passing up pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin lattes, and pumpkin muffins. How about giving a gift of a pumpkin dessert that comes without guilt? Eat Me Guilt Free Pumpkin Spice Blondie knocks the socks off the competition in taste and nutrition. The entire blondie has only 170 calories and 4 grams of sugar, or 90% less sugar than a slice of pumpkin bread from a bakery-cafe. With 22 grams of protein, it has as much protein as chicken and can be eaten for a meal, snack, or dessert. They come in single and 3, 6, and 12-packs. There is no shortage of desserts that are suitable gifts for bariatric patients and anyone else who is on a weight loss journey. By the way, remember that your favorite bariatric surgery patient can be...yourself! Go right ahead and give yourself the gift of weight loss and pleasure all in one with your favorite low-carb desserts!

    Need some exercise advise

I began working out again after about 5 weeks as per my doctor. He still wants me to wait about two more weeks to do any abdominals. This week I started spin classes, which I love, and burns a crazy amount of calories. If you workout in a gym, can you ask for some guidance? If you can afford it, it’s worth hiring a trainer for a few sessions to teach you technique and how to get the best out of your workout. I hope that helps and good luck!
  12. Can you be successful losing weight with the lapband if you have difficulty moving? I have fairly significant arthritis in my knees and find walking somewhat difficult. Obviously, losing weight may relieve some of the pain, but since I've had knee problems since I was a slender teen, I'm not expecting it to resolve completely. Since I've been sedentary for so long, my plan is to start doing physical therapy to strengthen the muscles around my knees, and simultaneously begin a more general weight lifting program to increase my general strength. I'm hoping after a few weeks of this I'll be strong enough to start walking short distances. What I have to avoid is injury - the last time I injured my knee I managed to gain another 50 lb :-( I'd love to spend time in a pool, but the nearest one is 45 minutes away and doesn't have childcare... So do you think I can be successful with this plan? Have any of you had similar experiences? Any suggestions or comments are appreciated. Thanks - Alyson
  13. Sheri I am a heavy diet soda drinker. A Big Gulp on the way to work and several bottles throughout the day and don't forget the ever present 2 liter at home. This concerns me the most about my upcoming surgery which was originally scheduled for 2/23/04 but now it is 3/2/04. I am trying to cut down a little each day and hopefully by surgery date I will be off the bottle. This habit and my Skittles (candy) habit will be the hardest to break. I can't wait for the day when I can go thru without both of them. I can't wait to discover the thin person inside this fat body. I am not a big gum chewer due to extensive dental work so I will not miss that treat. I did hear, however that drinking thru a straw does put excess air in your stomach. I guess it is a try and see how it works out type of thing. Christine

  15. I got sleeved 2/26. Doing really well. Feel great. Started liquid diet 2/15. I'm down 35lbs! Problem: All of my incisions have healed except 1. It's the main one by my belly button. I thought it had healed, but I woke up last night to blood & Fluid ALL OVER my sheets. I put cotton balls on it, taped it up, & went back to bed. This morning there is a blood spot about the size of a half-dollar on the cotton balls. Can't visibly see any more oozing out. I washed it off & put "Tuff Skin" on it. Any advice on how to care for it? I've got a spring break trip that my kids have been looking forward to for almost 9 months......I leave in 1 week for a 5 day stay in an indoor watermark. Hot tub, pool, etc. I want to do whatever I can so I can make this heal up & not disappoint my kids. If its not healed, waterproof bandages & wear a shirt? Advice?

    Virtual Lap Band via hypnosis?

I suppose it was to be expected sooner or later. While I'm certainly not opposed to hypnosis per se, my own personal exposure to a 10 week session of it circa 1973 for weight issues, was ineffective.
  17. Mark your calendars!!! I wanted to let you all know about our upcoming meeting next Sunday 2/8 at 3 pm at the Lyons Den Cafe at 10415 Beardslee Blvd in Bothell. Please spread the word with friends that would be interested in joining us. There is a several year old thread about people wanting a meeting in this area and it's finally happening along with some groups in different locations!! Exciting times.A I'm taking the liberty to create a theme for the meeting: Protein, protein, protein!! Bring in a couple 1-serving portions of your favorite protein powders in a labeled plastic baggie. We can swap and try products we've not tried before. If you prefer ready-go-to drinks or bars bring a chilled sample and we'll have a few cups on hand. We will have a room reserved and everyone should be prepared to make a purchase from the cafe. Let Kay or myself know if you have questions or concerns. Thanks and see you all there! Michelle aka M is for Mimi

    Band Day 02/15/2008 @ 11:30

Had my band installed Wednesday. Don't worry about too much - relax as much as you can. In my case, on a 1-10 scale for pain, this ranked at about a half, and I'm a puss when it comes to pain. I'm not at all hungry, roughly 60 hours post-op. I've had a little Crystal Light, a little chicken broth, but otherwise have sipped Water and been fine - and as someone who as little as two weeks ago was putting down chicken wings 40 at a clip, that's saying something. I'm sure everything will go well for you tomorrow. Just don't try to be the hero - listen to what the doc's tell you, and do what they tell you as well.

Carbs, Calories & Fat, Oh My!

It feels awesome! You'll be there soon too. I guess I should have also referenced my eating when I was only 4 weeks out, huh? I think at that time I was not focusing so much on calories/fat because I was eating so little - I believe at that time I was on 2 oz per meal, and typically tried to do 1 oz Protein and 1 oz veg or starch. So for example I would do a small serving of tuna salad, and a small serving of peeled cucumber (that was allowed on my meal plan after the first month). I also ate a lot of scrambled eggs, moist chicken breast, canned fruit (like peaches and pears), and deli meats. I definitely wasn't getting all my protein from food like I am now, so I would do 2 shakes a day.

    March 27th sleeper

It’s natural to be nervous and to even 2nd guess your decision as you get closer but don’t let comments on here scare you! Keep in mind those that have had a successful story usually wait until they have a significant loss to recap their journey . Knowing that helps to keep everything in perspective for me. Just a little more than a week !! Exciting times 😎

  23. I'm so happy that I found this place.....wahoo. I am 10 day to my revision From lab band to sips. So here's my story an I'm stickin to it lol. In 2005 I got my LB. My HW ever was 340 SW 270 LW 215 My CW 232 Because I've been on my per-OP for a week. Last week was 247.8 My first yr out I got to 215 My band was awesome.I had hit the sweet spot an life was amazing. Then in 2017 I got rear ended at a stop light an it broke my neck in 5 places an my back in two. Plus it tweaked my LB. I had to have it emptied. Never found my sweet spot again. [emoji26] My weight has bounced all over the place for the last 14 yrs. So I started doing research an decided I needed something with malabsorption. Cuz I really cant eat that much for the pass 8 yrs I have been at 236ish. I am very grateful for my LB. It has helped me to never see 340 again. But alas I must move on an get rid of the last 100lbs. Coming up on 5 weeks post surgery.

You should follow the list that your doctor gave. If you have questions maybe reach out to the nutritionist? I would not recommend something like popcorn at 5 weeks out.
  25. I'm trying to figure out what to eat/drink and when in regards to a work out. I started c25k this week and will be starting back to the YMCA next week. I know I need to be hydrated before a work out but what about protein and carbs? Protein before or after a workout? I never worried about it before because I had PLENTY of everything to last but now my intake is so small I want to do it a the best times. And thoughts or suggestions?
