I dealt with this for about 2 weeks now on and off. Mainly in my calf area and also swelled. I thought it could have been a blood clot so i went to the ER last week and they did a ultrasound as well from the top of my leg all the way down and no clot. they said either dehydration and or just your body going thru changes with the surgery. tho my surgery was only 1 month ago. I did buy this massager for my calves and love it. I feel better after using it.

I'm not sure exactly what caused the kidney damage. But I had been very lax with taking my calcium supplement. I have something called oxalate nephropathy. I had calcium oxalate kidney stones about 5 years after my surgery. Then last year I had a very bad UTI which took over a month and 3 different antibiotics to cure. That might have been the thing that really caused my kidneys to fail. Or it might have been the fact that I switched brands of the liquid calcium I was taking and the new brand was not good. Anyway, I wound up in the hospital with a severe calcium deficiency and had to have IV calcium. And my kidney disease went from stage 3 to stage 5 in 6 months. Anyway, I gave up on the liquid calcium supplement and now I take calcium in pill form from the pharmacy to make sure I'm getting the amount I need. I mistakenly believed that the liquid form would be better for me because of the D/S but I learned that it's more important to get your supplements from a USP approved source. There is a study that shows that oxalate nephropathy, which is rare, can be caused by fat malabsorption, I think ultimately, that is why my kidneys failed.

I am having the same issue after the first week I have been having flare ups in both knees and ankles. As of yet I have found nothing that helps me with the issues. I currently am on Allupronol and Colchicine for gout as well. I just purchased some tart cherry extract pills I will let you know if they help. -

Kinda annoyed and confused

No I dont believe you are. Hang in there! You are stopping when you are comfortable and that is what you are supposed to be doing. You've lost a good amount of weight in a short period of time, so failure; nah I dont see that. I see it as a victory!! 28 pounds down in 2 weeks thats awesome! Ive only managed 14 lbs and I tend to look at it as thats 14 pounds I couldnt do on my own before so to me its a win win . Keep doing what you are doing and your body will conform -
It's been a long time now since I had the gastric bypass. I've lost 187 pounds. I lost most of the weight in the first couple of years. I slowly regained some (70 pounds) beginning about 5 years out because I had trouble with my knees and couldn't exercise. I've lost the regained weight in the past couple of years by just gentle walking several times a week. I'm no longer obsessed with eating and just eat for nourishment. I weigh myself about once a month. I stopped going to my support group because of the distance after the first couple of years. I lived about 4 hours away from where I had the surgery done. There was a 2 years wait list to see a surgeon closer to home. One thing I regret about not going to the support group is that I became complacent about keeping up with my mineral supplements. Now my kidneys are damaged and I need a transplant. The transplant surgeon tells me I need a panniculectomy before I get the kidney transplant. I couldn't afford the plastic surgery and didn't want to jump through all the hoops to get it covered. But now, since I've been told there's a medical reason for doing it, I'm starting to look into it.

2-3 weeks. Currently in a stall so wont be weighing myself for a few more weeks lol -
I am about 7 weeks out from bypass. I eat about 4oz at a time, but it really depends what i am eating. Something things sit heavy and fill me up faster than others. Of those 4-5 oz, 2-2.5 are a protein. I am now off restrictions and can eat whatever my stomach will tolerate. I have tried tons of stuff, no steak and no lettuce yet as they tend to be harder to tolerate. But I have all kinda of other fresh veggies and lettuce is next because I miss salad. haha So far the only thing I had a problem with was a bite of pit beef meat, but that was a few weeks ago and I haven't tried since. I was so miserable and sick, I don't plan on trying again for a while (or ever). haha I am not a big pit beef person anyway so it isn't a big loss for me. Good luck on your journey!

I’m 4 years out. At home I still weigh my food. At dinner I eat around 1-1.5oz veggies & the rest is protein. The whole meal is 3 -3.5 oz. If I eat more then that I get too full & I’m uncomfortable for a while. When we eat out I eat a little less then 1/2 of the meal, my husband & I usually share an entry. If I’m eating out with a friend I ask if I can order something on the kid’s menu. At about 1.5 years out I started eating over 4 oz & I put back on 30 pounds! I used The Fast Metabolism Diet & I did great & I actually got to my goal weight!

Hi all - I'm booked in for sleeve surgery on Thursday this week, so am currently on Day 12 of the liver shrinking diet. It's the third time I've been on the diet as my first two surgery dates were cancelled due to covid (my surgeon caught it, and then I caught it!) so I'm pretty used to it all by now! Just keeping everything crossed that there aren't any problems this time and it all goes ahead on Thursday! Congratulations to everyone on here who has had their surgery, and sympathy to all those who are still on the pre-op diets! So inspiring to hear all your stories, and hopefully I'll be sharing my recovery updates soon too! xx

the closer you are to a normal BMI, the slower and harder it is to lose. The last 20 lbs were a BEAR to lose for me - we're talking like 2-3 lbs a month. it isn't just us - I remember very clearly going to Weight Watchers meetings before I had surgery. I'd overhear these barely overweight women b*tching and moaning about how hard it was to lose 10 lbs, and I just wanted to roll my eyes. Yea - try losing 200 lbs! But now I totally get it...

How often do you weigh yourself after WLS?
catwoman7 replied to Possum220's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the first couple of years I weighed myself almost every day, but the (normal) fluctuations were getting to my head, so since then I've only weighed myself once a week. -
I am at the 10 month mark too, I haven't lost anything for 3 months. I find myself being able to eat " normal" serving sizes. Sometimes it's a bit less sometimes a bit more. But I must admit snacking has crept back in and it's something I really need to get control of.

Hi all - after two cancelled surgeries earlier this year, I'm now three days away from my gastric sleeve appointment! I've needed to stay away from this board whilst waiting as I was thinking 'what if...' far too much, but it's been great catching up with all the posts and seeing how supportive and helpful everyone is to each other. @Nikki@50 Hope your surgery went ok and that recovery hasn't been too tough so far? I'm a mixture of nerves and excitement; one good thing about the delay is that I feel more confident than ever in my decision to take this step. I've been doing some work with a psychologist for a few months about emotional eating and I feel stronger and more confident than I have in a long while. Look forward to continue reading about your experiences, and I'm sure I'll be asking loads of questions over the coming weeks and months xx

How often do you weigh yourself after WLS?
River Moon replied to Possum220's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh myself every 3 months at my follow-up with my surgeon. But, that is due to my therapist and nutritionist highly recommending it for me. I have a long history of becoming way too obsessed with the scale, which would lead me to restrict, then binge/restrict, then binge/purge, then finally binge-eating all together. It's just been my downhill spiral for forever. Now I have finally been learning to pay attention to my health and how I feel with energy, health, and just overall mental health. It's been a relief to not weight myself so much. However, that is not a rule for all. For me it was highly recommended by my team. But, for others they need to weigh more often. -

I have worried about this myself. Its like I dont have alot of restriction, I even said that to my Dr because things seem to be moving along good. I have not tried eggs yet but I may try that tomorrow. Tonight I had mash potatoes about a tablespoon and a tablespoon of carrots. I mashed the carrots to baby food consistency and the mash was runnier than what we usually have. I was unable to eat the mash potatoes, I maybe had 6 small bites. My stomach was gurgling and grumbling so I stopped eating altogether. It felt like I took a fist to the gut every time I tried to eat the potatoes. I dont feel hunger I dont believe but my stomach does do alot of growling and grumbling which is weird. It will do that while Im eating. Are you experiencing that maybe and thinking its hunger pains? Hard to say but I have seem some posts from ppl saying they were hungry after surgery. Maybe they will reply to your post hopefully. I havent lost any weight in 3 days after my last weigh in so thats making me nervous about what I have been eating or the amount. Surely its not a stall already after a 14 lbs loss in 9 days?? -
May Surgery Buddies

I kept thinking this surgery would be as debilitating as my 2 x c sections and having had a sleeve 3 days ago my experience has been a lot easier than the c- sections in terms of coping at home. I found it very difficult the night of and the night after the op and was in terrible discomfort. Third night in a massive relief and hoping the recovery stays like this. I found coming home a lot better than anticipated in terms of controlling my own meds. I was petrified beforehand and insisted on 2 nights in the hospital ( here in the Uk for sleeve surgery 1 night is standard) . Only 3 x nights post surgery but already a lot better and far less discomfort. -

I have been eating tuna pouches and cottage cheese. I probably get what you do 3 or 4 oz at a time then I stop regardless. I do not have to take as long as you do with eating. I chew everything to next to nothing but Im usually done in about 30 mins Id say. Im not eating alot of the things you are though so that may be the difference, My food doesnt have much texture except for the cottage cheese. I am in awe of what your already eating lol 😂 -
How often do you weigh yourself after WLS?
Crisscat replied to Possum220's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weighed myself 9 days after surgery because my Drs appt was on that day by video conference and I knew my Dr would ask. I lost 14 lbs so I was pleased with that. I told myself Id only weigh once per week but I weighed myself today which was 3 days since I last weighed and I had not lost anything so it bummed me out. So Im going to try to stick to the once per week weigh in or longer if I can do it. -
