How many sizes lost?
_Kate_ replied to triplethreat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told 10 - 14 llbs means you drop a dress size, but I think it really depends on your body structure and fat deposits etc. Congratulations on reaching GW !! Kate ps: I have lost 103 llbs and gone down 6 dress sizes. I have just had plastics and my weight might not change but my dress size may. Heres hoping -
How much fluid for your first fill...and how much do you have now?
mnguest replied to Becca29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was surpirsed when I went in for my first fill and she checked to see how much was in there (I thought it was empty) but she removed like 2.5cc then added I think 1 more cc to be at 3.5 total. I felt restriction right after but now, a few days later pretty much normal again. Hope I didnt "stretch" my pouch during Thanksgiving! Go back 12-22-10 and hope for more restriction. -
I had my paperwork submitted on a Tuesday (faxed), and by Saturday, I received a denial letter. A week later, I appealed it. Within 3 days of faxing that paperwork, I received my approval (I called them every day) over the phone. It all depends who you speak to. I was told by some of the CIGNA Reps. that it would take 7 to 10 days, and others told me that they respond in 3-5 days! So I just kept calling until I had an answer. I would ask for the department that actually reviews the paperwork, as the Reps. that answer the phone, don't have the most updated information. Good luck to you!

When did you have your first stall?
lizardqueen replied to elle2769's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled on my 5th week and it lasted 10 days. I know its expected and happens to everyone but that doesn't make it less frustrating. You are doing everything right, staying within the nutritional guideline and exercising, and no loss on the scale!! Ugh!! But it's part of the process and we will have to be ready for more of these. I believe I came out of the stall by increasing my calories but don't know for sure. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
pre op liquid diet day 1 sucks big fat gonads
DonRodolfo replied to newlife27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You shouldn't feel this bad the entire 10 days, just the first 3 or 4. You'll be surprised how good you feel on so little nourishment after that. You'll have energy too! -
Update. They have finally put my stuff into insurance. Waiting on the call that I'm approved. If I am, I'm hoping for 9/30 or 10/1-10/2 date. I'm feeling better about the RNY just nervous about surgery now. So waiting to be done as even without a fill I sometimes get stuck.

So, I'm 2+ years out and had what I suspect was a gallbladder episode a few nights ago. Woke up projectile vomiting 5 hours after a rich meal. (Rich in good fat, salmon, olive oil, etc) I palpated around and nothing hurt to the touch. Problem was over as quick as it started. Went back to bed felt okay the next day, (minor soreness probably to be expected). Went and got checked the next day at the PCP's office, (my surgeon moved and the bariatric program kind of fell apart so no support there) and the nurse practitioner was like, yeah, could be, but since it was the first episode probably don't need an ultrasound. Try cutting some fat out of your diet. Okay... So I've done that, and do feel better, however, I've lost a little weight already. I don't really NEED to lose at this point, but 10 pounds would be okay. No more though. So I've been maintaining my weight on a certain calorie level (1300-1500) mostly supported by full fat dairy and "good" fats in nuts, avocado, salmon, olive oil, etc. I've gone back to logging so I can keep track of the fat, (I WAS eating a lot, I think), but now, keeping it below 30% (around 40g per day which doesn't seem that low to me), I struggle to get 1000 calories per day, (even when I eat 5-6 small meals per day). I have an exercise habit, stationary bike at home, nothing extreme, that burns 400-500 per day. What am I going to look like in 2 months? Should I be concerned?

Excited with results
Justgotsleeved replied to Justgotsleeved's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
For Breakfast everyday for the almost the entire last three months has been cream of wheat. I can't get enough of it in the mornings. Snack I have a Protein shake, lunch a yogurt/protein bar/cheese and crackers/or whatever I have left over from the previous nights dinner. I get creative with dinner and rely heavily on pinterest for healthy ideas. A lot of slow cooker recipes. Chilli, zoodles and a mearball, chicken and zucchini stir fry, baked chicken, chicken salad, you name it. Of course Im always mindful of getting my protein in with each meal and I'm in love with the flavor packets from walmart since I can't do plain Water anymore. Iced tea with lemon, everytime I go I get atleast 10 boxes because it's all my wife and I drink. This has been a good week. Down to 290lbs as of this morning. Loving my sleeve and loving life!! Looking for Flouroscopy in Houston, TX...2.5 months out and only 10 lbs lost
Chrisann replied to Gangy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
2.5 months is 10 weeks and you lost 10.5 pounds? My doc said the target loss is 1-2 pounds a week, so you are averaging 1 a week, that is good as you are steady. -
I had surgery on 10/3/12, i lost 20lbs pre opt....i lost 23lbs the first month, and have been losing 10lbs every month since..... I dont know if thats the norm... I guess slow but steady is good ....

In my post op room and struggling bad
Recycled replied to monopoly2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, squeaky wheel gets the grease..........Speak up! They got wicked pain meds they can give you.....no need to endure the pain needlessly. Tell them the pain is a "10" and you want stronger meds. Keep in mind, once they give you something weaker and it doesn't work, they can't give you more until later......so know what they're giving you and request more effective meds. (ie: morphine, dilaudid etc.) And as far as the gas pains.......maybe some Gas-X might help, but as everyone is saying, walking is the most effective method of elimination and relief. Try to get some sleep too.....makes the time go by faster.....and time is the only real healer. It'll be behind you in no time.....hang in there. -
Have you purchased any goal clothing for after surgery?
Boldilocks replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't bought anything - I only just got my surgery date and it's at the beginnng of Feb 2019. BUT, I have started making a sweater in a size 34 chest. Let me explain, I'm a knitwear designer, and I have to make the samples for the designs I publish, to be photographed for the front of the pattern. 34" is the norm, and it's not easy to find models locally. Today, I started a sample in a size 34" in a beautiful olive green that I know will suit my colouring, with the intention that I will model it myself for the pattern pictures. I am only a 38B bust right now, but that's because I had a breast reduction 5 years ago. I used to be a 44H. I may as well be bigger than I am, because my belly sticks out furhter than my boobs at this point. Not loving the eternal 9 months pregnant look, have to say. I have always been too embarrassed to model my own designs. I am hoping that by this time next year I'll be a 34B, with the rest in proportion, and I can save myself a lot of time and money and angst looking for models. It will be such a proud moment for me, I can't even express how much. -
Is the 2nd night at the hotel necessary?
McButterpants replied to Tiff's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was nervous about that at first since so many doctor's require a multiple day visit. I was self-pay so I traveled to Las Vegas and we rented a condo. It was much nicer to recover in the comfort of the condo and having my husband there really watching me. As California Kelly mentions above - I do better on my "home turf"...it wasn't home, but much better than the hospital! We stayed a whole week after surgery because I'm a nervous Nellie - that was overkill, but there's worse places to spend 10 days than Vegas, right? You will be surprised at how quickly you start to recover. I was up and walking around the halls about 20 minutes after I left recovery. Walking was the best thing for me and I think it helped me recover faster. Best of luck! -

Protein Shakes And Fear Of Hurling
TamaraS replied to billyvmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
10 days since a BM? Even when we had my grandma on liquids she would still have bm's, obviously very small. After 3 days they said it becomes toxic and builds up leaking into the blood stream if I remember correctly. Was the Dr. worried about it being 10 days? -

To puke or not to puke...
ElfiePoo replied to dreamingofbeingskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My meals are planned at least a day in advance so I never find myself standing in front of the fridge wondering what to eat when nothing sounds good. I don't go there since I may not want what I planned, but I certainly enjoy it when I'm sitting down and eating it. I always measure out the amount of food I know I should be eating. I never just eyeball it. I never go back for seconds. I also bought myself a special plate for my meals. It's smaller than my china plates so I don't get this visual of "OMG...a rabbit couldn't live on that" feeling. My 10" plate is the perfect size to hold my food *and* give a visual satisfaction. . -
Sorry to say but it does end with menopause ending and some medication. At least on my part. I agree-PMS, hysterectomy, perimenopause, menopause. Bawling like 10 babies or enough irritability to lift a house. Taking a SSRI med is what has absolutely saved my sanity (and also hubs). Sent from my XT1096 using the BariatricPal App

To the OP- I have two words Uterine ablation Best damn procedure ever. They remove, cauterize, then uterine lining. Basically? Insert what is like a balloon (a bladder) into your uterus, and inflate the dang thing with boilin hot Water. Sound horrid? Medieval? Nope. You're in a state like a colonoscopy and don't know what's happening. After that? No more periods!!! Mine was done over 12 years ago and I've "spotted" MAYBE 10 times. For all of one "wipe" worth if you get my drift. Funny thing? All of the typical PMS symptoms vanished with it. No mood swings, uncontrollable need to munch, nada. AND NO PERIOD!! Now, as I approach menopausal age, I have NO CLUE if I'm in it! Lol. No stopped periods to watch for, and I'm good with that! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Well golly. Silly me thought menopause: great. White pants whenever you want. No more needing supplies while camping. Etc Ha. Joke was on me. Not ready for mood swings and hot flashes. My ob/gym calmly said the average menopause symptoms last about 7 years! Are you serious?? Waking up drenched was so not on my radar. Hoping I'm nearing the end. Glad WLS solved the 10-15 lb gain that is common however ....

Let me share this story with you Stacy.... In 2002--I tried marriage again. I met a Woman in church and I was head over hills with her. Getting to the sad part--I was a Gym fanatic and didnt know much about my meals and how to do them and eat right. So my weight loss was so small. So after feeling defeated in 2004--I saw that the medicare insurance had made "Obesity" a desease. That'swhen I first considered the lap band. I called up a few Doctors--got opinions. Then my weight was a yoyo thing. This month--I was 260....next month--240 and so on...Anyway--you would expect the love of your life--your spouse to support you. I got excepted and was about to start my tests and so on. My wife at the time told me..."Why are you doing this? I said because I can't seem to maintain the weight and I need releif. She said...you can have that surgery--but you will be at the hospital all alone. I will not come there to see you or pick you up.The lap band is killing people. I told her--it's the bypass that has the high risk. She ignored me and like the Man I "was"--I stopped what I was doing. I worked out and got down to 218. Oh yes--fit andtrim--but guess what?? Sick as he**. I had lose too much--too fast and too much muscle. I gained it all back with interest. The reason I was given of why she "really"didn't support me...My dear wife said she needed to keep me fat--she knew that other Women would want me if I got smaller. The on top of it all--she would call me sick, poor and a few other names when we were in the privacy of our bedroom. Our walls were paper thin. My kids--asked me---"Daddy why is "Miss Phyllis mad at you for losing weight? My kids now are only 11 and 9...I am a single dad--thank God she is not their Mom. Then one day--I saw her ex-husband...I am asking--God please forgive me....This Man was all of 500 pounds--at least. My wife (now ex-wife) was all of a size 8 during 2004. Something strange hit her in 2005---called age 40. She went to a size 10, 12, 14, 16 and after we split--a big 18 to 20. Yes--just like that. Her old habit of sleeping right after a meal caught up to her...She went to the Doctor and cried about having a thyroid problem and would he start her on thyroid meds...he refused. Then she tried this pill and that pill for that magical cure...I still even though I was having issues--I stayed exercising and never stopped until the Hurricane(Katrina). I moved and decided--273 wasn't my deal...Again now that I am in the 238 area...I am thankful again for the lapband. My dream is to visit a few friends down on the gulf coast--maybe Christmas or Jan-08. It will be a shock them all--at who I am...

Lee, Good for you for doing all you can to get healthier and doing what's best for you! I know it has to be hard to not have a lot of support from your family, hopefully they will come around! I posted my jealousy situation on another thread a few weeks ago, but I'll repost it here on yours, here's my deal: I am currently having a situation with a lifelong friend who has always and forever been the "thin" one and now our roles are almost reversed (I am by no means "thin" yet but. . . .) she has been gaining steadily over the last several years and now we are within 10 pounds of each other. Her weight continues to go up and thankfully, mine is still going down. She is having a very hard time with this as she is supposed to be the the "thin" one, not me -- I'm supposed to stay fat, forever. It has, as you can imagine, really put a strain on our friendship. She claims to diet and exercise constantly but when we are together and there is food involved, she makes all of the wrong choices for "dieting" or eating healthy and tries to get me to do the same. She gets very aggravated when I tell her I can't eat the cheesesteaks, thick-crust pizzas, mega fries and strombolis anymore. I've tried to explain to her that it will get stuck and cause me tremendous pain, not to mention all the other fun stuff we go through when something clashes with our band! I'm not sure how this is going to work out, but right now, it doesn't look too good. I'm really hoping she can come to terms with her weight gain and not be so negative towards me for doing something that is improving my health. It has to be hard for her, having such a role reversal, and I know all too well how being overweight and unhappy feels.......I've had years and years of practice. I've offered to exercise with her, share recipes, whatever, but she's not interested. The thing that really got to her was when her 7-year-old said "mommy, Stacy is skinnier than you now, you're getting really fat!" I know that really hurt her feelings, too. I feel really bad for her because I know her struggle, but she doesn't want to work at losing weight together. I don't know, I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I posted this about a month ago and sadly, nothing has changed. I've lost a few more pounds and she has gained more and become more bitter. I'm almost afraid to bring up anything about weight loss or healthy eating because she bites my head off. We don't talk nearly as much as we used to and she gets really ticked off if our friends comment on my weight loss. We have definitely drifted further apart; it seems the more weight I lose the madder she gets. :faint:

I was sleeved on May 6th, the first 2 weeks were hard for me I had a sinuses infection going into surgery and it really got bad after. My recovery would have been a lot better if not for that infection. I am in my 3rd week and everyday is better and better, down 19 lbs so far. Going to start exercising next week want to work on my skin firming. Eating and drinking in small amounts is key, i over did it and wow up it came, I never realized how i swallowed my food and i ate too fast. The sleeve is teaching me to be slow and chew!! I was very tired the first 2 weeks, but this week week 3 I have more energy.
