To Protein Drink or Not To Protein Drink
860971 replied to anwen_ut's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I mix 1 tablespoon Genepro protein powder (30gm protein) in 1/2 cup lactaid milk when I get up. That has just over 30gm protein before I leave the house. I try at meals to eat protein. If I am short at the end of the day, I repeat with another 1/2 c lactaid with another scoop of Genepro. Bottom line, you need your protein. -
I buy Protein powder called GENEPRO. You can get 30g of protein in 1 tbs. it's unflavored so you can put it in anything.. I make protein shots three times a day with 1 tbs of Genepro in about 2oz of almond milk, Greek yogurt, etc Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

100% whey protein isolate

I believe I may be spiking my meals with too much Protein. I've been putting 1/2 scoop of GENEPRO Protein powder in my black Beans for good measure. Yesterday my kidneys were hurting a little bit. As I read about possible causes, one was "excess protein". It seems as if your are not active enough and have too much protein, it is difficult for your kidneys to process the oversupply. I guess I'll be cutting my spiking out. I'm the typical personality type that believes if one is good then 3 or 4 must be a whole lot better. -
Losing very slowly - can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong?

1) your nut is an idiot by setting too high of expectations. I was down 17 pounds at 2 1/2 months and I never considered myself a slow loser. 2) drink more Water. You should shoot for 64 oz but more is better....I get closer to 100oz most days. 3)as for loriemoms nut saying shakes are artificial Protein, she, too, is an idiot. whey protein is simply the liquid portion of milk that settles to the top during the cheese making process....just like what settles out of yogurt or cottage cheese. There's nothing artificial about it. In fact, it is the number one, fastest, best absorbed form of protein available. Better than meat, eggs, tofu, fish, etc. GENEPRO, however IS artificial. It is a chemically modified molecule that started out as protein but no longer is. The company is a quack and cannot provide any amino acid profile for their product and has absolutely no science based studies supporting their claims or even show if our bodies can absorb it. Anyone with a basic understanding of biochemistry can look at their product and see it's not really protein. Good luck, you are doing great! -
Losing very slowly - can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong?

Hi. I'm new here. I had my sleeve the beginning of December. My weight at the time of surgery was 262. Here I am 2-1/2 months out and I've only lost 36 pounds. I went to the support meeting and the nut said I should be losing faster and told me we'll talk at my next appointment -- the end of next month! It's close to impossible to get an appointment. I would like to correct whatever I'm doing wrong before that. I am looking around for a bariatric nut but that's not going well either. In a typical day I will have a yogurt with GENEPRO, cottage cheese, a Syntrax nectar drink, and a shake. I always go over 60g of Protein and a minimum of 50 ounces of Water. I have been exercising 30 minutes a day and I switch it around, even doing the steepest incline on the treadmill. I do not eat meat. I haven't cheated on any kind of food I'm not supposed to have. If anyone can tell what I'm doing wrong, I'd be so thankful. -
100% whey protein isolate
cindyw41 replied to RoadToMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would be careful of GENEPRO.. I haven't found any unbiased research on it. 30 gr of Protein in one TBS seems too good to be true. I like unjury. I have all the favors. The chicken Soup isn't the best but for a protein soup it works. The strawberry is good mixed with lemon crystal light. I Doctor up the vanilla and chocolate with syrups, fruit or PB2. The unflavored is good in recipes -
100% whey protein isolate
JapGirl replied to RoadToMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may be lactose intolerance. I know that's common. Genepro and Isopure are both okay for dairy issues if it's dairy then you may be struggling to process the regular when protien, but whey isolate is safe for people like me Btw If you want to try the genepro you can order samples -
100% whey protein isolate
RoadToMe replied to RoadToMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for that info! I've only tried isopure's zero carb clear drinks, I'll have to try the powders. I looked into genepro when I heard people talking about it but it's a blend of Proteins and I don't seem to handle blends very well. At least that's what I think it is that I'm not handling. -

I like Isopure and GENEPRO. I have to have Whey Isolate because I'm lactose intolerant. Isopure is really good mixed with almond milk. Genepro only comes flavorless. Isopure - 1 scoop has 110 calories, 3 gram carb, 0 sugars, 25g protien. Genepro - 1 scoop has 98 calories, 0 carbs, 0 sugars, 30g protien. -
I cant tolerate Protein Shake! 3 days post op!
Meg55 replied to leonelbreton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@leonelbreton You might want to try GENEPRO, it is more expensive, but the scoops are smaller, the mix is finer, and you get 30g of Protein. I ordered from Amazon..... http://www.amazon.com/Musclegen-Research-Genepro-Medical-Servings/dp/B00K6OSDYA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455942223&sr=8-1&keywords=genepro You should find it much easier soon! -
I cant tolerate Protein Shake! 3 days post op!

My dr also said to focus on hydration not shakes. There are some protein shakes that are not meal replacements. They are much lighter and easier to get down. And some powers that mix into anything (I did genepro in wonton soup broth). My dr actually told me to stop trying. Take a total break for 2 days. Everything was much easier when I tried again. (Struggled the first week, took a 3 day break, and was much better day 10.) -
Travel exactly one month post op
SassyNanny replied to Mzerica619's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's very doable. I love premier Protein ( Choc and vanilla) drinks from costco and would take enough for 2 a day. Olive Garden was kind enough to purée my minestrone Soup for me during my liquid stage. Enough for 2-3 meals. sugar free pudding and Jello. I bought from Amazon GENEPRO Powdered Protien. You can add it to Soups, drinks etc. Just take a small jar of it with you to up your protein. Just follow your Drs rules and don't get caught up in the food. Have fun! I despise Protein shakes so my go to is GENEPRO Protein powder. I add it to foods like hot chocolate or milk based Soups. It's whey protein so it works best with milk based products. One tablespoon is 30g of protein. For the first three months that was my main source of protein since I could eat so little.

I also found genepro, I lIke it much more than unjury. It dissolves better and is more concentrated, a small scoop is 30 grams vs 21 for unjury I believe. I bought it off Amazon.com.How is the flavor? No flavor at all. Can't even taste it.

Unflavored Protein Powder

I bought the GENEPRO as recommended here. They sell single serve packs so you can sample it, and easily take it out. I mixed it with broth today and it mixed in very well and I didn't notice it at all. Jess, mom to Ysabel, 6 and Maggie, 3 -
Best clear protein drink
Clementine Sky replied to Mimipopla's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I recently began using GENEPRO after watching a "grocery haul" video on YouTube that another woman who'd had the VSG made, and I really like it thus far. If I had known about it when I was on clear I would have given it a shot. I'd used Isopure then but wasn't a fan. A tablespoon-sized serving of Genepro has 30 grams of Protein. It dissolves very well in cold liquids, and decently in warm and hot as well but you have to do a bit more stirring (with a fork, rather than a spoon, as per the instructions.) Once you're past the clear stage you can add it to yogurt, smoothies, and the like. http://www.amazon.com/Musclegen-Research-Genepro-Medical-Servings/dp/B00K6OSDYA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455085549&sr=8-1&keywords=genepro -
December 2015 sleevers progress check
860971 replied to Joymarie333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lesley-vsg, try the protein powder Genepro fro Amazon. It is 30gm protein in 1 tablespoon. I put it in my morning milk, cream of wheat, yogurt almost anything. It has no taste. I mix 1c chocolate lactaid, 1/2 banana and 2T. Powder. I drink 1/2 in the morning 34gm protein. If I don't get in enough protein thru-out the day, I drink the rest before bed. I get 68 gm protein every day. Having a backup plan is key. -
December 2015 sleevers progress check

My surgery was on 12/9. SW 285 CW 251. I am pleased with how things are going. I have been in a stall for 3 weeks, but I know this will change. I average between 700-800 calories. I feel very fortunate that I was able to find a Protein powder that I really like so I have a shake every morning. I also use Musclegen- GENEPRO unflavored powder that is 30 gr of protein for 1 tbl! This type actually mixes fine in hot liquids, so I have it in my afternoon coffee. Makes getting my protein in a lot easier! -
Anyone have RNY on 01-18-16
bunyip replied to Lyndzee104's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aww, that's too bad. Can you stand adding unflavored Protein powder to Soup or something else that you like? I've seen posts on here for GENEPRO protein--it has 30 grams of protein per tablespoon and supposedly doesn't alter the texture of whatever you add it to. (Sorry if you've already tried this, but I thought it was worth a shot mentioning it.) -
LOve that we are all helping each other. Try the oikos triple zero. It has zero calories zero sugar and zero fat. 15 grams of Protein and the GENEPRO should up your protein. You can also blend the yogurt with your protein and add a splash of milk to make it easier to go down.

I just heard about genepro for the first time the other day at a support group at my hospital. They also mentioned inspire protein powder and syntrax nectar. I need to look them all up because I desperately need to up my protein. I also heard about fairlife milk, that has a lot of protein in it. I picked up some of the fat free and it wasn't too bad. I like your idea about the unflavored protein, too.
