Hello! I am currently day 9, sleeved 12/1. I had some complications, but am feeling 100 times better now. I am on full liquids until PO next tuesday, limited options, getting to the point where I can't stomach some things anymore. I cannot tell the difference between hunger and reflux. It feels like hunger! Its cramping, painful, and makes all sorts of noises( gurgling, sounds like growling.) Im still working on fluids but hit my protein goal( can down 10 oz of protein shake and 5 oz of yogurt, 3/4 cup of soup, all done in accordance to my plan). Its felt like this all week! Today is the first day I haven't felt it, or felt hungry. Im on 20 mg of omeprazole, and was on 10 before surgery because of reflux, over production of acid, etc. Is this what it is? Hunger? Help! 3 Meals vs. 6 "Meals"
summerseeker replied to LouLouM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had great problems eating and drinking since my surgery 24th Nov. Foaming every meal and it lasted all day and night. I was miserable. I had to stay in hospital 5 days. At about 12 days things slowly improved for me. I just drank liquids till I began to feel more confidant. I eat 5 or 6 tiny meals a day. Occasionally I struggle with breakfast because of the amount of medication I have to take. Ideally I start my day with a glass of milk, Then low fat yogurt, Then pureed thin soup. I would try to extend my diet in the early evening , Pureed Dhal or pureed avocado with smoked salmon. In the evening I love to pick on the tiniest slivers of cheese and sieved cottage cheese, I am tracking my diet and dont get 400 cals yet. My surgeon doesn't really do protein shakes and says I can catch up on the next stage If anyone could have burst my tummy It would have been me. I am fine but a little behind my peers. I am ok with this. How many cals are you getting a day ? Knowing that will help your dietitian decide what is good for you -
Anyone else depressed after surgery?
summerseeker replied to BariJen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery the same day as you. I also had a extended hospital stay [5 days] because of swelling in my new tummy making me constantly vomit up every time I ate or drank. I had a miserable 2 weeks of this and felt like a fool for putting myself through this. My family were very worried for me and that made me feel more depressed. Then I got a urine infection turning my urine bloody which meant more meds to take I rang my dietician and she said - look just take the liquid penicillin. Try and drink as much as possible. Eat broth and rest as much as you can. Taking the pressure off worked after 2 days. I have 6 tiny meals a day, 2 of yogurt, 2 of soup and 2 of sieved cottage cheese. I am much better now and can sleep laying down. My mood has lifted and I am now taking all my meds and vitamins. I will play it by ear as to progressing to the next level next Wednesday. I hope you get the break you deserve too and see a little light down the line. -

Teachers out there... (or anyone with stressful jobs)
XtinaDoesIt replied to XtinaDoesIt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So true! This year especially, I have been prioritizing me and my well being! I'm starting to get into a grove with my diet now also. I start my day with turkey bacon while I'm getting dressed and a banana on my drive to work. I mostly eat fruits, nuts, yogurt, throughout my day. I find that when I bring leftovers I am less likely to eat. I eat my meals when I get home. I'm still not really getting much exercise either BUT I do have to walk up and down 3 flights of stairs 3x a day so there's that... I also have one of those large water bottles that I try to get through. I used to do crystal lite and protein powder mixed in but I find I drink more when it's just cold water so I fill it with ice. Lastly, I have stopped drinking again. When the school year started I found myself drinking more and then skipping meals because I was no longer hungry. But 1-2 drinks here and there was becoming a drink every work night. So I finished my last bottle and decided to go cold turkey again. Everything is looking up for me and my scale is still going down (at a snails pace but down is down:) I'm glad you are doing well! Stay safe! -

Severe Gerd and ulcers after gastric bypass
alb13 replied to CKmommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi, It took 3 months for my ulcer to heal and I drank a lot of protein shakes and then started adding 1 semi sold meal per day and ramped up form there depending on how I tolerated. I switched to fair life milk and that met much of my protein needs 1/2 c skim and 1/2c chocolate made me feel like I wasn't being deprived. I also found isolate splash which has 24g of protein per scoop and is basically protein water and it save me from dehydration, website is revolution nutrition. They flavors are quite sweet so I water down a bit but it's all about your taste. I also ate protein pudding and lots of yogurt which won't be good for you but try the pudding. Also laughing cow cheese is soft and easy to digest. Hope this helps a bit, hang in there it will get better(: -
Severe Gerd and ulcers after gastric bypass
jas84047 replied to CKmommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Omg someone else like me! I was only 2wk post RNY (revision from Sleeve due to gerd even though I had a Fundoplication 10yrs before my sleeve) when I stopped eating or drinking anything & vomitted nonstop. After 3wks of that I finally went to the GI who did an EGD and found an ulcer at the staple site the biggest he'd ever seen. I was literally on deaths door due to loss of magnesium, nutrition, dehydration, potassium, etc & was admitted to the hospital straight from the EGD and put on a feeding tube for 2 weeks. I'm now 2 weeks off the tube and nothing I eat works. It seems the ulcer friendly foods and the bypass friendly foods are not compatible. Please tell me when things got better for you & what you ate? I hate eggs & yogurt & love cheese and protein shakes even make me sick now. [emoji31] Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
What do non-cooks eat in the 4th month?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Amy Braun's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I eat a lot of prepackaged stuff out of convenience for portion control- individual beef jerky packs, tuna pouches, Greek yogurt with a small amount of frozen berries (I buy the big bags and portion them as I need them), prepackaged individual salads, precut veggies or veggie trays, cheese cubes or cracker cut cheese slices, 100 calorie packs of almonds, and cottage cheese are all staples for me. -

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)
gabbykittyvsg replied to xKirstenx's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
A really good snack would be 1/2 cup sugar free Greek yogurt with some berries (frozen are usually cheaper-make sure they don't have added sugar). Look up low glycemic fruit and make your choices from fruit lower GI choices. -
What do non-cooks eat in the 4th month?
OutdoorsGirl replied to Amy Braun's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
When I’m on the go I have chick fil a grilled nuggets with buffalo sauce, 8 mixed nuts, blackened chicken tenders from Popeyes, boiled egg with hot sauce, fruit cup, plain Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with seasoning, steamed chicken and vegetables from a Chinese Carryout, slices of ham wrapped around a cheese stick, or mashed black beans with cheese. I usually have a cooler bag with me so I can save the leftovers. I also pack a protein water or shake. I haven’t started regular food yet. -
It’s so funny how different each surgeon’s post op directions seem. My surgeon allows small curd cottage cheese and apple sauce/yogurt in the full liquid phase, so that is helping me feel like I’m actually eating something non-liquid. I’m worried about developing lactose intolerance post-op, but fingers crossed nothing has been too bad so far. Are you guys getting the loose stool thing already?

January Surgery buddies
Tysheena84 replied to Tinats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so ready to get started. I have family coming into town for Christmas. So I am going to enjoy myself and enjoy the family time. I am actually going to start my full liquid diet January 1,22. I figure why wait 4 days. I’m just going to do it. I am trying out different shakes, yogurts, and puddings now. I am very texture oriented. So this will be interesting. For those who work… how much time are you planning on taking off for recovery? -
I was obsessed with refried beans. They tasted so good! I often added some shredded cheese and FF greek yogurt. I don't know if you're allowed this yet, but ground turkey and chicken were great, too. I added taco seasoning or other spices and ate them with ff greek yogurt. Also mozzarella cheese sticks.

I’m just a little bored on this soft food/purée phase. I’m making ricotta bake tonight. I did a puréed chicken salad with Greek yogurt and some other seasonings to eat on this week for lunch. Lots of other recipes I’ve tried but guess I’m just bored now. All suggestions welcome !

What do non-cooks eat in the 4th month?
Candace76 replied to Amy Braun's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hi Amy, Since the surgery, I have found that I like to have easy meals ready to grab. I do enjoy cooking, though, too. For breakfast, I often have a protein shake or yogurt with protein (oikos triple zero or light & fit). Sometimes, I may have oatmeal (can add protein powder, there are some brand that have it added), frozen lower carb or keto waffles with protein & sugar-free syrup, or low carb/keto bread with cheese or egg. You can find cooked hard boiled eggs in dairy section. There are also those "just crack an egg" microwave meals (I haven't tried them). For easy lunches I often have yogurt, Oscar Mayer P3 snacks or Sargento Balanced breaks, 1/2 sandwich with low carb bread turkey & low fat cheese. (I don't know if you are ready to eat nuts, yet, I know they need to be chewed well & controlled portion sizes) An easy dinner I found was a frozen pizza made with a chicken based crust. There are some frozen keto meals i have seen, but haven't tried. Other easy items are: frozen cooked shrimp, cooked grilled chicken from supermarkets deli, & microwave riced cauliflower. I hope you get some ideas. I am always looking for new foods to incorporate into my routine, too. -
I eat the 0 fat cottage cheese and yogurt too. I put chili lime seasoning on it and sometimes mix in a fruit cup. It tastes pretty good.

November Surgery Buddies!!!
MomaDance replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Surgery 11/4, I’m eating protein rich “meals” (1/4 cup of canned chicken mashed up with hot sauce or low fat salad dressing is a “go to”) 3 times a day, plus Greek yogurt as a snack. Today, I’m allowed to have “soft” foods, so I will have a Turkey meatball mashed up in homemade no sugar tomato sauce with a tablespoon of ricotta cheese for one of my meals and I can’t wait. I am hoping and wishing for the time when I can have fresh veggies- but all I’ve been approved for at this point is veggies steamed and mashed which… isn’t flavorful no matter what I try to do (and I’m a decent cook, but mushy broccoli is mushy broccoli no matter what herbs you add to it) the way it was told to me, I’ll lose more once I add to my diet. Not sure why, but hoping that’s true. I am down 36 pounds since starting the liquid diet 2 weeks prior to my surgery, and that makes me happy. -
I had gastric bypass surgery in July 2021 and am starting to regret it. I have been really sick unable to eat or drink since. I'm so weak I can barley get out of bed most days. I'm concerned about loosening my job because of it as well. I just had a procedure done about a week ago to widen the pouch the doc called it. It was supposed to help I guess it has in a way I can finally eat about 8 blueberries a day or i pick at a banana through the day, I've also been able to down about half a drinkable yogurt. But I'm still getting sick . Alot of foods or even smells make me gag. Water tastes horrible to me for some reason. I started to drink Gatorade it has helped with some fluid intake. I don't want to be a downer for others but does anyone know if this will get better.

Favorite Grocery Products

Loving this thread! These are the kinds of real world ideas that I love finding on here! Here's a few of my favorite items now: Bolthouse Farms yogurt based salad dressings are the best! Love classic ranch and cilantro lime on salads. From The Ground Up cauliflower crackers are just like Cheez-its! Amylu chicken sausage! They are individually packaged so you can freeze the rest. They also make breakfast sausage!!! Outer Aisle cauliflower bread is amazing! You can use it for tacos, sandwiches, pizza, anything and it freezes well if you want to buy online and stock up. -
This surgery is bullshit...
Lifestyle Changer replied to goodmanje's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Husky mama mentioned using the Baritastic app. I’ve been using this app since I started the required weight loss program prior to my surgery. BTW my gastric sleeve surgery was 11/01/21. I love using this app. I found out there is a timer. My nutritionist suggested that when eating there should be at least 20 seconds between each bite. That means put your fork down and chew your bites thoroughly then swallow. There are exceptions to the rule with foods such as scrambled eggs, yogurt etc. With that said this will help slow down your eating. The question is are you eating too fast and finishing your meals in less than 20 to 30 minutes. If you have a scale go back and start weighing your food again. Finally if your weighing yourself everyday day you’re not going to see changes. Pick a specific day and time to weigh yourself. Then weigh yourself once a week on the that specific day you chose and you may see some progress. I wish you the best and please don’t give up. You’ve gotten a lot of good advice and I hope you will read them use these to help you succeed with your weight loss. On Black Friday, I bought a Ninja Creami for my family. The Creami allows you to make your own ice cream pints. You make your liquid mix, place in it one of their plastic pints and freeze it for at least 24 hours. You put the pint in the machine, spin it for a few cycles and you get ice cream. Here is why it is great for bariatric patients: you can make delicious, high protein, low sugar ice cream. Not an exaggeration. For my first ice cream, I mixed a 16 oz Premier Protein 30g chocolate shake, a packet of Chocolate Toffee keto chow, 1 tsp of MCT oil and 4 tbs of 2% milk. I had to put that mixture into a blender to get it all mixed because it was pretty thick. But then I poured it into a plastic pint and froze it. When it was done, it tasted just like a creamy chocolate ice cream and had the following nutritional profile (per MyFitnessPal) 356 calories 9.2g of fat 5.5g of net carbs 4.4g of sugar 57.7g of protein 109% of my calcium 34% of my iron 2,135mg of potassium 27.5% of Vitamin A 26% of Vitamin C (By way of comparison, a pint of Blue Bell vanilla has 640 calories, 32g of fat, 68g of sugar and 16g of protein). The Creami is not cheap (Normally $170, bought it for $125 on Black Friday). But if you can afford it and you like ice cream, I highly recommend it. You can use protein shakes, protein powders, Greek yogurt and a ton of other bariatric-friendly ingredients to make something that tastes like ice cream that you can eat guilt free.

Sudden low energy at night
Sunnyway replied to vikingbeast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try a snack in the evening that includes dairy and fruit, such as 1/4-1/2 C fat-free greek yogurt or cottage cheese with some berries. I find that that gives me an energy boost and eliminates pre-bedtime craving.
