Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?
Band07 replied to snowkitten's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I will be four months out on the 23rd. I had a rough start not because of the surgery itself but because I got pneumonia and became serverly dehydrated was basically miserable the first month. That being said, I've lost 30 lbs (which puts me 10lbs from my goal) It's slow but that's expected. I can eat anything/everything and my portion size is really much larger than it should be for someone who has had 3 surgeries! But it's the mgb that keeps me losing. Nothing and I mean NOTHING I eat stays with me too long. I'm in the bathroom A LOT! sometimes as many as 8-10x a day. It's worse when I make bad food choices but really with a 9' bypass even good foods pass through pretty quickly. I've asked others and not everyone expereinces this and it's not really dumping (though I have had that too) because I don't get sick with it or sweat or stomach cramps at least not often. Hope this isn't TMI but it's worth knowing I think because I wasn't prepared for it to be like this! I will try to answer any specific questions you have... Who is doing you surgery? My same surgeon is doing my surgery in Belgium, paid by myself like yourself, Been doing a lot of research on it and I think it's the way forward for me I'm scheduled for October 12/15, I can't give up now I've been through too much, sleeve didn't work for me band did but way too much trouble even thou I loved it,so I take it you are happy you went ahead and got bypass Wow, your story really does sound like mine! Yes, I'm happy, no regrets so far. Haven't had my labs done though but I am taking my Vitamins. The weirdest thing for me is that even though most days I literally have no restriction and can eat average portions, sometimes i get stuck and it feels exactly like it did with the band! Small bites and chew chew chew has always been a struggle for me -

Marisarose, I had the bathroom issues too. I took Milk of Magnesia, two days in a row, because it didn't work after the first day. Then I had the opposite problem. TMI I know. But now, knock on wood, I'm stable in that regard. Hope it lasts!

I did the opposite. I ONLY told my girlfriend and nobody else. Couldn't have sex for about 3 weeks (though if I were a woman it probably would have been sooner... "thrusting" sure as hell couldn't have happened at one and a half weeks due to my abdominal pain around my sutures... TMI). I think before he notices the lack of sex he'll notice that you can't eat food. I suggest telling him you're on your period and opening up the blow job factory for two weeks. He won't mind.

Official August thread! Where are you guys?

I was sleeved on 8/4/15 and I am very happy I did it, but having a few issues. One week out I can only keep down Water. I have a problem with crushing pills. I was taking kiddie Tylenol for pain, it's extra sweet and thick and I can't believe that kids take this (I stopped taking it). I have "spit up" or " vomited" a total of 3 times in one week on things other than water. And I have intense diarrhea (sorry TMI) So... I called my doc and his office is all cool like everything is ok that's normal... I am sorta confused... I am going for my one week check up today and I will give him an earful. I would love to know when people started feeling like themselves. I feel spacey. Having loose BMs, tmi, and doing my drinking, sip, sip, sip. I just want to feel normal again, besides the hunger and overeating of course. I will showe today, yesterday horrible headache, and get out and walk more, it has cooled off. In LA area and yesterday was so hot, especially after spending almost 3 days in hospital. Please send me some progress on yourselves, it helps.

What's your "weight loss pet peeve?"
Elode replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh lord I just thought of another one as I was doing it and its probably classified as a big fat TMI and slightly weird ( not something most would share, but I'm a realist/big mouth so..) cutting off my undies! I kid you NOT! I have had to break out the scissors on more than a few occasions and chop those big granny panties right off! I drop weight and buy clothes but new underpants never cross my mind while shopping so they never make it into my cart. The most aggravating thing in the world is having big bunched up undies make a home in places that have no vacancy!! The girls at work crack up but I just can't take it. They already know the scissor hand signal. Don't ask any questions, pass the scissors, add sterilizing to the list of things to do. I'm writing this down on the fridge while it on my mind. -
Am I a lost cause? How can I believe in me when I have failed so many times in the past?
Mistie replied to More than this's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get that you love your doctor. However, a doctor should support you, not attempt to control you with fear. If you are leaving your doctors office feeling bad about yourself and/or bullied, it's time to move on. And bullied is the word that is coming to me from reading your post. A couple of years ago I went to a doctor who prescribed WL meds to give that a try. Every visit, all she did was harp on how horrible one of my other meds (Depo Provera shots) are, that I need to get off of them, how bad they are for me, etc. I tried to explain that I understood the risks, but my gynecologist, who I've been seeing for almost 10 years, had tried a half dozen other meds, and this one works... She didn't 'hear' me. She had her OWN AGENDA. And it did not coincide with mine. No Depo, at this time, means me coming close to bleeding to death (sorry if too much TMI) - it's the only thing stopping it. She didn't care, she just had this idea in HER head of what *I* should do. So if your doctor 1) bullies and/or 2) has an agenda that does not mesh with yours and makes you feel unheard. Go elsewhere. I wanted to keep taking the meds... but I stopped, because I refused to go to a doctor who treated me with so little respect and had so little respect for me, my opinions, and my ability to make decisions. I wish you the best of luck. Where there's a will, there's a way - even if it takes a little time! -
I had to get 5 lbs off in 5days for the last weigh in. I drank lots of water, but also took water pills once or twice a day so I wouldnt retain that water. Might be a lil tmi but I am not a regular person I dont have a bm for 3 or 4 days, so I took laxatives once a day for four days to insure I went at least once. I lost the weight I needed to.

I am three weeks out and on soft foods. I am struggling to get my Proteins in and get nauseated and vomit about 1/3 of the time after I eat. Sorry for the TMI, but it rarely contains a lot of the (little) food I have eaten, but I am just so sick and feel so bad. Is this normal? Also, after I eat, I feel myself getting hot. Am I the only one experiencing this? Should I call my doctor?

Depression, Anxiety and Anger

I am challenging the function of the Wellbutrin XR, I do not think my stomach can process the meds the same, or I am pooping them out before they can work. Sorry for TMI... Why am I still miserable I just lost 35 pounds???? -
My experience with dumping came after I are a little spicy soup..I was SO tired of pudding and jello ..it took about 15 minutes with stomach cramps and I ran to the bathroom. More if a water discharge(TMI) but I wanted to explain it was different than anything I had ever experienced.

Wow, superinteresting question! I don't have a surgery date yet, but I've been doing a lot of medical stuff, and for two months, I've been on a mostly liquid diet (shakes, with one small Protein only meal a day). This has caused a fair amount of attention, because I spend a lot of time in spaces where there aren't healthy food options for me, and where my dietary habits have been really noticeable. (Lots of Jewish retreats and events, where I can't bring in food and the food is all "dairy", which means mostly carbs. And what I say when someone pokes at it a lot is, "My doctor and I are trying to get to the root of a digestive problem I have." :-) If they push me, I say, "I am trying to finally resolve a problem that's been bothering me since I had my gallbladder out." And after that, I don't discuss it. If someone says, "Oh, so you eat Atkins?" or "Oh, are you gluten free?" I just smile and say, "Oh, right now, I'm eating what's healthy for me, until we work out what works better. You don't don't want to hear the details!" And then I make a little face, that ever so slightly suggests it would be TMI. This, is, in fact, mostly true. I have had a problem since I had my gall bladder out after acute pancreatitis over 10 years ago -- I have "bile salt diarrhea." And you know what? My BSD is completely gone when I just eat protein. :-) I'm not interested in discussing my weight. But other than that -- I am basically surrounded by fat-positive and sex-positive friends, and I am more concerned that one of them will get upset and feel a need to tell me I'm being a "traitor" or something else for having WLS. I also don't want to hurt the feelings of people I know who are too sweet to ever say that, but who are at my weight or higher. So, I have told 3 friends I'm doing this -- the ones I will probably need support from when first have surgery. I've told my children. But other than that, I am just "working on a health issue." I know at some point, I will have lost enough weight that someone will be like, "Whaaat has happened?" in which case, I'll just say I finally addressed a health problem that was bothering me. I don't want to hear "you're looking better" and stuff like that. I look great now. I will look great then. I am more than the number of pounds I'm carrying. :-)

I don't mean to sound gross but....
naturegirl replied to T.Whitaker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry for the TMI post that follows.... I was Sleeved two weeks ago. The first few poops were bad! Solids and difficult to pass. I'm not yet regular, but hopefully getting there. I use to be daily like clockwork, no coffee or help needed. Tonight I had a pain in my lower tummy, figured it might be time to poop. Made it just in time. Sadly explosive poo is not something that I enjoy. Hubby thinks I need to up my protein, so I'll try that. But I agree, this is not something that can be brought up amongst polite conversation with most people. -
I've been doing good. I've lost 17 lbs so far and still shrinking. I still hurt a little but it's just a slight nagging pain in my left side. TMI...I had a lot of bathroom problems but finally figured that out. Don't wait 3-4 days to take something (lowest dose of Milk of Magnesia worked for me)and stool softeners don't help at first but I continue to take them.

Today is My DAY! YAY!
Shinnystar replied to Shinnystar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh what a day!! A good day, that is!! It all went well. They kept me over night in hospital where I was able to drink the broth, I ate some of the popsicle but my new tommy didn't tolerate the Jell-O. They brought me some crushed ice and was able to either suck on them or mixed them Water in the little medicinal cups. I love drinking cold water and it was one of the things that got me worried if I was going to be able to continue liking it post-op. So we are good there. I walked, walked and walked, and then walked some more. Every 4 hours no matter the time of day and night there I was. So everyone on the bariatric floor got to know me. I'm home now and continuing the routine from hospital and the liquid diet given by doctor's office. So far so good. Feel a little more sore than yesterday which is expected. Everything is more awake now. Took my first shower just few minutes ago, so I feel squeaky clean. TMI: had a little bowel movement not painful but liquidly...sorry for the details. Just trying share as much as I can remember now. Going to finish lunch and rest before a short walk. Keep you good spirits up and know this is sooo possible. When things get tough, just think of the results you'll have..a better healthier life! Ciao! -

So one thing that has happened to me... may be a little tmi, haha. I haven't had a regular period in like 7 years or so to the point where I would go a year and a half without one ect. Well I had one right after the surgery, and then right at a month later.... so looks like that's starting to turn around -

I'm not sure how to pm. My symptoms are very similar to the stomach flu. Nausea, dry heaves, lethargic, and tmi, but now that I'm trying phenergen suppositories, diarreah. I don't think I can last 3 months how can I get my surgeon to try what they did for you? -
SO, I hope i do not offend anyone's sensibilities, but a few people I know and help with this journey, have asked about this and it kind of clicked for me, especially recently. Now since many many threads have talked about dealing with constipation etc, this is far from that. What I have noticed is that during a stall i will got 3 to 5 days without a BM. But when i am losing constantly, I have much more regular BM's Now obviously the joke " i took so big i poop i felt lighter" etc. seem to hold true to a degree. ( no i have never weighed before and after) But i most certainly do notice that sustained weight loss seems to coincide with being..regular , shall we say. So am I strange in this regard? ( just in this regard, I know I am strange overall, thank you) What have your experiences been?

I'm not I rely worries about the port sticking out but pain is definitely a consideration. I only have a week off work and need to be well enough to run around a flooring store all day. It should be okay. I had a breast reduction a few years ago (tmi?) and went back a week later *should have proof read...not really worried
-
I was wondering has anyone experienced non stop diarrhea? I know it's too much TMI but I'm like sick. I've lost close to 30 pounds in less than a month and I'm not sure if that's from having all those problems with my stools. If you have any advice please help.

things i wish they would have told me...
Vaness7578 replied to glitterpockets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the hardest parts were the food restriction the first month. My brain wanted me to eat all the things I loved. I had to work hard to turn off my brain from it's food addiction. The surgery wasn't hard for me, the recovery wasn't hard for me. The hardest part is the mental part for me. Oh, and the crushing the pills to take them made me throw up. That wasn't pleasant either. On to some possible TMI subjects. The first 3 weeks, my pee stunk and made me self conscious like it was my girly parts (dr said it's the ketosis) I showered several times a day just trying to not smell. Also the frequency of #2 bathroom breaks has thrown me off too. I used to go daily, but now go maybe 2x per week. And on the days I go... I go several times a day. It's like my body waits until the system is full and it flushes it out completely. It's weird, but thankfully I'm not having constipation issues, it's just slow moving.
