  1. That's why I ask you to LIST EVERYTHING YOU'RE EATING! Gah. How hard is it to do that? At 6 months I'd lost most of my weight. At 9 months out I was at 1st goal of 150 and surpassed the weight goal my RD/doc had set for me. I'm now at 14 months working on my last Goal #3 of 130lbs. I'm at 137.8lbs today. So I'm clearly doing something right. There are stalls all the time. I continue to eat the foods that I know work for me. I meet my lean protein goals for the day, I keep my healthy veggie carbs low, I keep fat low. I keep calories in a range of 650-850/day for losing mode. And that's what I do. It works. You cannot game the system. If you are stuck for months, then you are clearly eating too much or too much of the wrong things for weight loss. It's as simple as that. You are maintaining. Or regaining. I take 2 drugs that can cause weight gain. And I have to be extra sharp to eat to my calorie/macro window so I can lose. Weight loss isn't impossible with underlying issues, it is just a matter of being much, much harder.

    Hardest part

The hardest part is getting your head in the game and keeping it there for the long haul. It isn't a situation of getting an "easy ride" with the surgery then being able to resume a fun/frivolous life. Just like with diets, that will lead back to weight gain--by doing the same things that got us a lifetime ticket to the Obesity Ball in the first place. So, even though I want to go out and party like it's 1999 in my new skinny body, I don't. I stay down on the farm and do my daily work. I eat the right things. I do the daily exercise. I work on my head/relationships/spirituality/relaxation, etc.
  3. @KCgirl061 thank you for the reply. My intake has been the same, nothing changed. My hunger is back, which is also unusual as its ONLY 6 Months from the surgery. Why am I gaining weight? Surgeon didn't really have much to add, neither did nutritionist. I figure to ask the community if anyone else has experienced a complete plateau and weight gain of 2kg only 6 months after surgery

  5. Hey ya’all. I am 3 days post op from a lap band revision to the RNY bypass. It wasn’t the smoothest of recoveries. I was sick for almost 2 days. Vomiting more than I was taking in. Also I got Crepitus from my breast to my eyes and it swelled up my left side of the face. That has subsided a bit but still painful in the neck and it rubs on the inside so I get terrible chest and upper back pain. Now my abdomen on the left is so swollen than my left upper this is swollen. Feel like a fatty. The worse of it all is that i gained 22 pounds in the hospital and I ate barely anything. I just about lost it when I got home. But since I couldn’t eat anything they continuously pumped in fluids. Anyone else out there he any of these problems and relate and help me through this “scary phase” of healing? Otherwise I am pretty excited I had it done. I was able to drink a crystal light tonight and not get heart burn like I would have with the band so i was excited about that.

    October 2018 Sleevers

And I hope he steps up and starts figuring some things out! I am a recent (3 month) PICC line user (November 29 2018- February 26 2019) although I was happy with lessing of my malnourishment symptoms and believe you me, YOU CAN FEEL A DIFFERENCE, I realize now the 1400+ calories it contained slowed my weight loss almost to a stand- still. About a pound or so a month. March 1, so right after -267 pounds , now I do not own a home scale, after ichucked one in the dumpster after it refused work right, long before surgery, when I was trying to lose weight with my diet pills and was getting nowhere fast, bet I am the only person in history to take 1 month of Phenteramine and GAIN 30 pounds! So I only weigh at my PCP and surgeons offices. Drum Roll Please- March 26 2019- 234.6 pounds, my Golden Honeymoon Months may NOT be over- they always you have just so many months of smoother quicker weight loss and then things slow down. This makes me feel better about ME, see I started out in October 2017 with a highest admitted weight of 365+ , I say "plus" because I was so disheartened by how my body was " back-stabbing" my best efforts to lose, I refused to climb on another scale. Figured the the next step would be the Farmers Equity where they weigh out feeds on a massive scale. Went through a bariatric Plan for the second time, quite a story there, went almost all the way , my job was terminated, lost the insurance that would paid it and surgeon's office failed to inform me I could have gone with my secondary which had less stringent requirments and I could have had my surgery, although I was one month short of finishing Plan # 1 requirments, this was August 2015 through January 6 2016. PCP sent me back to that place again after the monster weight gain, went through all their. specifications, jumped in and out of hoops they erected, tried to act righteous, followed their " Company Rules" only to be told in February 2018 their head surgeon. no longer felt any urge to do my surgery, would not permit his 2 or 3 partners to do it either. Yep kicked" right to the curb" after he had raped my insurances of all the monies He could get. I finally got mental closure on it, God says I should forgive the Stupid Sack,of Offal, but I shall never forget! So I transferred to OSU, the place I should have gone to in the first place. Would you believe my PCP sent me to place #1 because he thought it was " Christian- Based" and what a Giant Farce that was! Went through Ohio States requirements, there were a few extras I still had to do, but in consideration of me not filing an equivalent of "Breach of Promise suit" they were forced to release all my previous records with no detrimental observations. And another thing to my benefit , Ohio State actually liked me, pledged to work with me to make my weight loss journey and surgery a Good Thing. And on September 5th 2018 I received the RnY bypass I had been struggling to receive for over 3 years. It will be forever my Wonder Wednesday, my Day of Days when all my mental pain, all my sorrows and my feelings of unworthiness went away. And I am eternally grateful for the second surgeon, he was a better person as well as a more skilled and compentant surgeon than that poor excuse for a Human Being I first encountered. As you may have guessed I have not had the easiest of healings afterwards, I am now 73 and some things just don't heal as qucickly or smoothly as they might were I In my 20s or 30s, but THEY have been with me, supportive all the way! " This isn't working? Okay we will find an alternate way of doing it!"And although I could not have forecast these 7 months they have still contained joys and successes. I am still in IT to WIN IT and the rest of my life will be the BEST of my life. This is a vow, I am seeing Onderland ahead for me, where I can break the 200 pound barrier and in the distance shining like a beacon is my Finish Line, my Victory Lane and I am going to make it THERE! My Will is STRONG, my body? Well it may be only along for the ride but we are going to make it THERE!

Calling all vets- where are you

hello bariatric buds I wrote the above phrase on the previous page on January 29th - fast forward 2+ months..................... new day, new world! funny/sad how things can change. 8 months ago, i started Peritoneal Dialysis- done at night while i sleep, no problems through the procedure, sleep like a log!! (DH says i still snore LOL) dialysis causes a water "situation" . i am now 13.3 lbs over my GOAL of 130. I know its just water weight, but it is gradually effecting my clothes. Life is good - dialysis keeps me going - don't like the water weight gain. It's a trade off. I'm still cute as a button!!🤣 good health is all that its cracked up to be. 7+ years sleeved, I'm still standing!!☺️ kathy
  9. Hi, I am scheduled to have my surgery on May 1, 2019. I was suppose to have it back in January, but I had palpitations. That lead to tons of test and procedures. Found out everything is fine. So it will be 11 months in May since I had my first appointment with my surgeon. I have noticed my jeans got tight around my stomach. I know I have gained weight, but I'm worried about what's gonna happen at my last pre OP class. Has anyone else gained weight before surgery? Can anyone tell me what's going to happen at the last pre OP class? I'm really nervous!! Thank you ! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. Well my immediate family were all skinny healthy active growing up, so was I until teenage years puberty locked my weight gain into high gear. My dad later in life was big butt not obese was fit like a swimmer early in life. My mum was skinny all her life until she had her 8 kids but still no where near obese. Out of 8 children I was the only one really dealing with my weight from a young age but now my sister is 32 with 6 kids she's gained like 60lbs over the years. All her kids are hyperactive and fit healthy weight, my eldest niece is 16, 5ft10, 150lbs skinny slim. Pretty much all my niece's and nephews are fit and healthy very active BMX racing, cub scouts etc I've dealt with my weight now for like 20 years and it's definitely hindered my chances of starting a family or even having a real relationship but I'm definitely hoping all that will change once I lose the weight, tone up and get healthy I'll be ready to meet a nice girl Never too old to start a family, being a man!

    Weight gain

I haven't necessarily had weight gain, but I fear it is going to happen for me. I feel like I eat too much, I'm not really losing anymore. My cravings are horrible, and I have no will power. I feel so helpless...
  12. I was sleeved on 22 Nov 2017 I hit my lowest weight 96 lbs then gradually on next year I gained weight to 125 lbs I am 4'8 height so its so hard I am afraid and terrified to gain all my pre op weight back any help or recommendation or advises ?
  13. I am sooo scared that I won't lose any weight at all .......... I have to take a cocktail of drugs for a neurological condition - which started my weight gain in the first place !!! That would be my worst nightmare - to go through surgery and gain nothing ........
  14. Congratulations!! I have not experienced this before but I know MANY women who have been pregnant and not gained any weight, some that were overweight even loss. I would definitely talk to your nutritionist and your dietitian as you want to ensure that you are getting what you need for a healthy pregnancy. I would think that with a healthy, balanced diet, proper vitamins and exercise that you can have a healthy, successful pregnancy with little to no weight gain. Please keep up posted. Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!
  15. My last in weigh in is in 2 weeks and I need to loose 10lbs. This is really stressing me out because I gained 3lbs on my 2nd weigh in. If I don’t loose then I will be denied and have to start all over. I recently quit smoking and that contributed to my weight gain. OMG !!!!!!!
  16. Mine does not require weight loss, but they do not want you to have any weight gain either. (They expressed that it might cause them to cancel surgery.) The focus is on lifestyle changes and exercise in the mean time. I will have to do a two week liquid diet before surgery.

    Carbs?

The answer is both! First off, you don't count total carbs because the carbs that you eat in the form of fiber and sugar alcohols generally pass through undigested and don't contributed to weight gain or energy productiion. You have to deduct them from your total carb intake--so the focus is on net carbs. I am personally follow an ultra-low carb diet and try to keep my total carb intake under 30 net grams (usually under 20). I also count calories and track what I eat. I budget 1500 calories a day, with 45 percent come from protein, 45 percent from fat (healthy fats) andn 10% from carbs. It's working for me.
  19. Well, I am doing fine. No snacking, delaying bf about 3 hours and finding out it works for me. Cut carbs back most days around 24, the rest 30-50. Dr. Cywes really hit the ball out of the park for me it seems. He also said the reality is we cannot be perfect at this all the time, don't think of this journey as having a goal, THIS is the goal in essence. My occasionally (s) were more like frequently (s) of consuming the carbs. Can we just talk granddaughter's homemade strawberry cupcakes for her birthday here? LOL I baked them. Then I just thought about sugar nonstop - put down the cupcakes (drugs). I have had good restriction from the beginning, I just pretended (lying) I wasn't eating that many bad carbs. BUT those months might have been a glimpse at what maintenance looks like when I get there. At my age, it is unpredictable and since I have not been at a normal weight for over 42 years it will take some time to figure out. And from reading there are issues with weight gain 3-5 yrs out in many cases.... but at age 70 who knows what that will look like.

    Sleeve vs rny need help

Pre surgery jitters can make you question your surgery. It’s normal. First months is your best weight loss. Your first year is your golden year. don’t waste it! What will make you successful long term is nothing magic. It’s following your plan. weigh and log your food, hydrate and activity/exercise. Rates of weight loss: Just because one person did not lose much and another lost above the norm does not mean that is what your outcome will be. Don’t compare your weight loss. It will make you crazy. Things to learn from the posts about regain. Weight gain can happen with any type of procedure. “eating around your surgery restriction” You can eat several small meals that total over your weight loss/maintaining calories. (can be combinations of healthy and unhealthy foods) The result is weight gain Some examples of what can trigger people to eat over their weight loss/maintaining calories Complications Head hunger/real hunger medical issues medications stress/emotions menopause pregnancy eating disorders Being complaisant Thinking restriction alone will take and keep the weight off
  21. it’s true! many of us bounce back from surgery, had no complications, lose weight and keep it off. It seems that new people are not getting a balance look at weight loss surgery. Thigh numbness

I'm having left leg outer thigh numbness, its been coming on for a year .then it started like pins poking pain and burning. I had a EMG at neroligist. Its called MERALGIA PARESTHETICA. Google it. It's a pinched or trapped nerve. Femerol nerve. The nerve that let's you feel on the side of thigh. Its caused from tight clothing, or belt .Also from weight gain. It usually is only on one leg. My dr said after I loose weight it will start to heal. It itches also. And I get burning pain. The pain came on after 6 months of numbness. My surgery gastrectomy was March 4th. I'm down 13 lbs. Started at 210 now 197 5ft and 1/2 inch. I hope this pain stops soon. I'm on gabapentin and norco pain meds it hurts bad. Google it.
  23. Mj77803

    Yup. I regret this.

I think there is a misconception with wls. I had a friend go from 285 to 130. I think I was told I'd lose like 60 lbs? My goal for myself was 150. I said I'd be excited to hit 140. Which is where I am now. I didn't really put any expectations on this, other then I just wanted to be healthy. I have a chronic lung condition, I was mid diagnosed as a teen with a condition and was put on steroids for 3 months on a very high dose- I gained 80 lbs in 2 months. And could never get it off. A few years ago I had a lung mass found and because of the location and size no surgeon will remove it since it's considered "stable" so they choose to treat it with steroids, 5 months of that cause weight gained again I couldn't get off. I was diagnosed with svt in 2015 and had an ablation at 33.So for me it was important to try to do everything I could to get the weight off, just to be able to give my lungs a fighting chance, and to avoid a pacemaker. I'm 36. I have a 15 year old that I want to see graduate high school, so I knew I needed to consider what my pcp was suggesting. It took me a full year to consider gastric surgery. At 230, I wasn't sure I was "fat enough" to qualify, but I had enough co-morbidities that got me approved. You may be in a stall right now, but keep going. Trust me I've delt with fair share of complications from it too. You're going to get there. Some journeys are tougher then others. But I bet in a few months you'll be one to tell someone who is doubting " you got this! I've been in that same spot!"
  24. Sorry I can't give you advice from someone who has done this. But I'm sure if you talk to your bariatric team and a nutritionist about your concerns they will help you come up with a game plan. I would think that if you develop a healthy lifestyle including an exercise routine that kind of excessive weight gain in pregnancy can be avoided. Don't go eating crap food again just because you're pregnant and "eating for two".
