    A little confused

Congrats Sharie24, I'm just a little bummed. I will be 5 weeks out tomorrow and have only lost 20 post op. I shouldn't say "only", because I know 25 pounds in just 5 weeks is amazing...and I'm certainly glad I didn't gain 25 pounds. It just seems like every time I read a message on almost every topic area on this site, people are losing 30-35-40 in just 4 to 5 weeks. I did go to a nutritionist yesterday, because I did the self-pay route in Mexico to be able to afford. The care was exceptional, but the one piece that they were pretty thin on was nutrition and diet. The nutritionist told me the reason most people complain of the "3-week stall" is that your body thinks you are trying to starve it. Once it gets balanced...and gets balanced nutrition...is starts shedding the fat rather that clinging on to it or dear life. What are some of the things you are doing to have lost such a significant amount of weight. Any tips to share? What was your pre-op weight? Did you get weighed the day after surgery? What was that weight? I certainly understand if you'd rather keep that information private. I was just hoping to get an idea as to why you are having such great success and maybe incorporate some of your feedback into my own routine. Thanks, Marybeth As of today I am 3 weeks out of surgery an 47lb down since my post-op appt. I am starting to realize that I am not loosing weight like I was is that normal?

@@ruskatie, Welcome! I just broke a 3 week stall. Had my surgery the 20th and only lost 20 lbs the first week. So you my dear are actually doing well. Sorry about the complications... The people on this forum are so helpful and you'll start to realize all that you're going thru is the norm. I too was worried and frustrated but my scale is moving again and yours will too. Hang in there, you're right on track.

    Weight loss halted

It's called the 3 week stall. In fact, it's famous. Use the search function on here or visit the stall forum. You will see that EVERYONE goes through this and the answers to your questions have already been posted dozens of times. But in the end, the best thing to do is stick to your diet plan and STAY OFF THE SCALE!!!!

    Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers

I had a 3 week stall that I just broke here late last week. I had lost 68 lbs and then i actually gained about 2 or 3 back (panic!), it was weird. And fluctuated within a 3 lb mark for 3 weeks. I wish there was a magic trick that I knew would work to tell you, but I wouldn't recommend doing what I did... catching a nasty head cold/flu that had me losing fluids! So I lost some just from being sick, but I took a day off work, rested and kept drinking over 100 oz of fluids a day (I wasn't eating anything solid except bananas per doc) and that "rebooted" me. Some veterans swear by the "sleeve test" which is to go back to through each stage of post op diet over a week. I still think it's way to early for anyone to have to resort to this in my personal opinion. I am encouraged by thinking 1) I still have lost more weight this way than ever before and I'm at my lowest adult weight of my life (sad that it's not even in onederland!) and 2) our bodies are losing weight so fast that it's literally traumatic to our overall system (thats why i'm going bald! but its ok) so cut your body a break and try to limit expectations and just enjoy the journey for what it is.
  5. I am preop still too and trying to lose some before surgery because I am impatient and want to feel better NOW! I've lost 25 lbs in the past 3 months, not nearly as fast as I will lose after surgery, but I try to view each pound off as a gift. It's incredibly hard for me to lose any weight by dieting - hence the reason I am going for something as drastic as surgery and I am sure the same is true for you. If it came off easy, we wouldn't need the surgery! Have you been using anything like myFitnessPal to track your food & weight? I have, and it's been very interesting to see all the crazy ups and downs and how it rarely makes any sense. I have 2-3 week stalls even when I am doing everything right. And then I might have a big loss after splurging and eating very badly. Go figure. But - the main thing is overall I am 25 lbs better off than I was before. I can drive myself a bit crazy weighing every day but I can't seem to make myself stop that 40 year habit. You are 11 lbs lighter and healthier than you were a month ago! That's something to Celebrate. And you lost that in 2 weeks, so your body is just pausing and doing a little "hey, what's going on here?" bit and needs a little more time to get used to the changes. Don't go back to your old habits because that will guarantee that you don't lose any more and you will likely gain back quickly what you've worked so hard to lose. Hang in there. If you are eating healthier than you were before and are feeling more energetic and better overall, then try not to sweat too much about what the scale says. Knowing I will have surgery soon and will have that HUGE help to get the rest of the weight off and hopefully keep it off the rest of my life, helps me obsess a little less when I don't see progress for a couple of weeks.
  6. Are you drinking Protein shakes? Even at 10 months out, this is how I meet protein and Fluid goals. I make a smoothie every morning and drink it late morning/early afternoon. I've got at least 8 different Protein powder flavors to choose from and then add even more variety with fruit, PB2, Torani syrups and Mio Water drops. My smoothies are 24-32oz liquid, 25-40g protein (depending on what type of protein powder a I use and whether it's made with milk or water) and 5-10g Fiber. So I'm killing 3 birds with one stone (fluids, protein, fiber) and easily meeting the other 1/2 of my goals through high protein food, tea, coffee, water and juice. You need to Try and figure out how to drink and eat more. I had only lost 17 pounds at 6 weeks postop, then gained 3 pounds and sat there for a month. That was when In was sick from a medication I was taking. As soon as I stopped the medication, I ate and drank at least twice as much and dropped 8 pounds in 1 week! Slow but steady loss (with just a couple. 2-3 week stalls) ever since. Good luck. PS. go ahead and eat 5-6 tiny, healthy meals/day if you have to....I do. It's better than Peanut Butter and ice cream.

Congrats. 37 lbs. That's amazing. I'm in the 3 week stall. The weight and other tickers are under your account profile. Go all the way to the very top of the screen, it is in the upper right. It should say something like "Hello jelmore8312000". Click on that and it will offer you a menu. One item on the drop down mean is "My Tickers". That's where you can pick and choose the kind of ticker you want, the little scenes and icons you want to use, and input your data as it changes.

    The Stall

I had the GS done on Sep 2nd and now I've hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I was wondering if anyone can tell how long I should expect this? I have a friend that has the GS and he said his lasted almost a month. I sure hope mine doesn't last that long. Anyone have and stall stories that can cheer me up. I kinda feel like a failure because of this.

August post op sleevers: Check in

I'm right with you. My surgery was on August 27. Since my pre-op diet and then the surgery, I've lost about 28 pounds, but am stuck right there. I've been reading all over the web about the "3-week stall" which maybe we both have. I'm just glad my close are loose, I dropped a size, and am feeling good. I'm sticking to my prescribed diet habits, except I don't think I'm getting enough protein, so I started putting packets of unflavored protein in my morning yogurt. Maybe more protein will help star up the weight loss again.
  10. I rarely weighed myself that early on, but I dug up some of my old posts and found these stats... 1 week...up 5 pounds 7 weeks....down 17 pounds 10 weeks......still stalled at 17 pounds After that I lost fairly steady and only had a few 2-3 week stalls along the way. But as you can see if you fast forward, my slow start does not reflect my overall success..... Down 78 pounds (surgeons goal) at 6 1/2 months Down 88 pounds (personal goal) at 7 1/2 months Currently down 97 pounds at 9 months Just keep on your plan and remember you are in this for the long haul and the numbers on the scale really aren't that important. As for my scale, I don't even own one. I weigh myself once a week on the dog scale at work so I have something to post on here. I weigh fully clothed, with shoes or boots, sometimes in the morning, sometimes after lunch. The accuracy really doesn't matter to me because I measure my success by how I feel, how my clothes fit and NSVs. Good luck!
  11. I hit a 3 week stall too! I knew the weight was one my body was at for years pre-surgery and my last gain before finally having the surgery done, but it was frustrating. I am now back to losing almost a pound a day for more than a week! Yay! Knowing this stall ended will help me get through the inevitable next one. Hoping all of you are feeling great!

    HELP! Sleeved 8/27/14.....scale not moving!

Welcome to the 3 week stall.. don't fret it will move, just keep doing all the right things. You may want to take some measurements they are much more accurate than a scale will be.
  13. Look at your diet and see what you are eating. I understand you are getting in your protein but how much fat and sugar are you eating. Just a suggestion. Also you really should be working out up to 5 days a week. Need to burn the calories! I just came off a 3 week stall and i am 9 months post today. You really need to change up your eating and exercise routine every 6 wks or so your body doesnt adjust. Try working out 3 to 4 days and really push the cardio and strength. I was taught to do a warm up and then hit the strength before cardio. I do heavy strength every other day. The opposite days i concentrate on cardio and little strength. I work out 5 days a week and about 1 hr and 45 min a workout. It is important to losing weight!
  14. @@Westfield27 update your ticker!!! awesome work. I am 8 days out. down 14 pounds. crazy ride. brace yourself for the 3 week stall. good luck on the rest of your journey

    A pound a week :P

I am almost 4 weeks out as of tomorrow, and as you can see in my stats, I am considered a "slow loser". I lost 5 pre op and 17 post op and now I am in my dreaded 3 week stall. Could I have lost 17lbs in 4 weeks without surgery? Absolutely! Done it a hundred times! Did I KEEP those 17lbs I lost off before my surgery? HELL NO! I might be losing a little slower than other surgery patients, but I don't care because I know when I ultimately lose all the weight I need to, I will not pile it back on quicker than I lost it! Keep things in perspective. We did this for lifelong results, not quick weight loss. Work the program and let it work for you, whether you lose 25lbs a month or 5! Congrats on your current weight loss!

I noticed a few of you, like me, are having the dreaded 2-week or 3-week stall. I just wanted to say there is light at the end of the tunnel!! My stall occurred 10 days after surgery, not even 2 weeks! And it just ended this week (down 1.4 lbs today). The stall lasted 17 days. I just wanted to let you know, what everyone says (and your Dr says) about just keep following your diet, Protein, fluids etc...is true. Your body eventually recovers from that initial shock of losing so much, and you start losing again at a slower pace. Other suggestions...my doctor recommended to make sure I'm getting my Vitamin B12 weekly, and to switch up the calorie intake and exercise from day to day, to keep my body guessing. So I focused on that this past week...700 calories one day, 1000 the next, 800 the next, and I tried yoga, elliptical, hiking and just normal walking (not cleared for heavy exercise yet). Good luck everybody, may your stalls be over ever so soon!
  17. a little over a week. It's the evil dreaded 3 week stall Looking at my intake I think I need to increase it. I'm running between 450 - 650 a day. Most days I can get in close to my nut's goal of 80g of Protein (it was easier with shakes, lol). I graduated from full liquids last week to eating soft, moist protein (chicken, tuna, turkey) and it's been a challenge. Everything goes down ok, etc. I still try to get in one Protein shake to make my goal. I'm figuring out how to eat, not drink 30 min, then drink..then a snack? then not drink, then drink...eat. Sigh. It will get easier, I know. But I need the entire day to work this out. So trying to increase cals is a little difficult right now. 18. No preop diet. Just liquids the day before surgery. Put in 10lbs of fluid weight while in the hospital. These first 2 month no working out just normal day life and walking around work or stores. I have been in. 3 week stall so I got a personal trainer at my gym and now go 4-5 times a week. I still struggle to get in my protein of 70-90 grams and all my fluids. Once I figure that piece out I hope the needle starts moving down again.

    I just want to cry

If it helps (if misery does love company) then I'll share that i'm in my 3-week stall, still, too. Just keep on keepin' on, this is supposed to happen. Your body is a complex organism and its busy doing magic tricks and hiding things up its sleeves. the "and, Voila!" moments will come.
  20. I was sleeved on 7/14 and I'm still on my 3 week stall....now at 2 months so I definitely feel the frustration. I've got a measuring tape that tells me my measurements are the same (what?!) and a scale that has me hovering +- 2 lbs for so many weeks. it's definitely frustrating but.... life does go on. Just trying to keep sane with the portion sizes and the kinds of things I'm eating and I am trying to keep up with the exercise. I'm in Southern Florida and its hot hot hot. One of my doctors told me I have difficulty regulating my body temperature because of some medication I'm on so I am NOT allowed to do my walking or bike riding pretty much until the weather cools (november?) or after nightfall (which I don't think is too safe) so I've been focusing on doing laps in the pool as many times weekly as I can find an empty lap pool, which is working out to about 3 times a week. My surgeon's practice has an exercise consultant who has me doing strength training at home with resistance bands. These are super easy, don't cost much, and it doesn't take a huge long time to do the complete round of reps and sets. This is for once every other day.

August post op sleevers: Check in

I was sleeved on August 12th. Lost 21 lbs so far but that was the first 2 weeks. I had the 3 week stall as well. I think stepping on the scale constantly wasn't helping either. But the good news is... I've never lost 21 lbs EVER!. I'm feeling good. I had a post op appt. yesterday and I can now start stage 5 - chewable food! I'm kind of scared. I dont want to gain. Still today, I kept it to yogurt, a Protein shake, refried Beans with cheese, applesauce and water. I am not getting the 60-80 grams of protein needed but my doc said now that I can eat regular food, I should be able to. We'll see. I just can't fit all that food in. I'm so glad I had this surgery. The one thing I hated was pureed foods!! Ick!! But I knew it wouldnt be forever - Thank GOD!! Best of luck to all of you

    Dreaded 3 week stall!

My recommendation is not to focus on a 3 week stall because there will be more stalls. The weight won't fly out there somewhere. When the scale did not move my clothes were falling off. Focus on your plan, Protein, meals, exercise. Stalls are a waste of time and energy to worry about. They come and they go. Best wishes. Linda
  23. After a 3 week stall, my scale finally moved enough today to put me in the overweight category. It's the first time in a decade (since right after my lap band) that I'm not obese or morbidly obese!

    Labor day Challenge

I was on vacation so missed a week but on Labor Day I weighed 208, which is 11 pounds over goal. I didn't anticipate my 3 week stall but have started losing again and losing inches so looking forward to the next challenge!

    Feeling discoraged july sleever

Today was "Weigh-In Wednesday" (that's what I call my weekly weigh in) and, just like clockwork, 3 WEEK STALL!!! Literally exact same weight as last week (344.2). I planned for this so I am going to do measurements and photos later to remind myself of the NSVs, but man, it really is disheartening. I know it will pass, but it's the first break in momentum post surgery, so it's a little bit of a reality check. I a, so thankful this board is here to have warned me about it!! I would probably be losing my MIND right now if I wasn't prepared!!!
