    Info

thanks for your reply, I know it's a big thing to have done, I do worry how it might affect me when I choose to have a baby but they assure me that there will be no problems. I have tried just about every diet and slimming pill under the sun and whether I have lost weight on them or not I ALWAYS put it back on plus more. I love food....and the only way I can lose weight is to do something drastic which forces me to stop using food as an emotional crutch or a reward or a celebration... it'll be hard but I think this is the best thing for me to do.

    New to the forum

Hi macmadame, up until 2 weeks ago i was losing the 2 lbs a week and not feeling hungry. So dr kwon's nurse suggested going on Protein Shakes only for a few days to jump start my system again. I have picked up the pace as far as exercising. I am wondering if it is muscle that is the weight gain?? How long have you had your band.? Almost 90 lbs!! That's great, good for you. I go back to the dr. Next week. I'll see what happens. Thanks for answering.

Need a mentor - Central Jersey Shore

congrats on making the first step !!! its def the most important. <a href="http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wg4BK7L/"> <img border="0" src="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wg4BK7L/weight.png"></a>
  4. There was a great debate on another forum about weight loss and hair loss. Some people say it's Protein, some say it's rapid weight loss, some say (like Daisy stated) that's a huge shock to your system. I didn't experience any hair loss with my band surgery. I'm a month out from the sleeve, and haven't noticed any hair loss.

    Another stall

I am 7 weeks out now...My body is fighting back so badly... its such a stubborn thing just like its owner. Hehe ☺ I have had annoying weight loss so far... i stall a week... drop a little suddenly... maintain for a week then drop again .. etc etc... sooooooooo annoying. But hey... at least its going down... not up... i think i need to escalate my exercise now. I don't mind the slower weightloss in a way... at least this way my skin has some time to recover... hence less loose skin

    operation story

Amanda, fabulous story, similar to mine, except I had a snow storm which kept me there. After my surgery I went back two weeks later for my fill, received two cc's, and then my second fill was suppose to be at two weeks but I made it three weeks. Now with 4 cc's in my 11 cc band I am going again next week for my third fill. I am on soups this week because my weight has lingered at one setting for three days now. I guess that means it's time for another fill. I have been exercising on the stationary bike and watching what I eat but this week I will try extra. the symptions you had after your surgery was normal for I think, I felt the same. I had my wife there too so we stayed in the same room. I walked mostly and sat up most of the time too. When I got home I took my support off. My areas four of them where the incisions were itched too. They were covered with bandaids so I kinda finger scratched around them, after all I had to shave my belly, haha, it itched like hell too all over. Basically when I could eat solids, I went to tuna fish, tuna salad, and crackers (kits at store) and small cans of pork and beans. I even cooked 15 bean soup beans with hamhocks and made several dishes for dinner's. Last week I had mash potatoes, and mac and cheese and a meat-chicken or fish or beef for dinner. Small sizes like 2.5 oz meat, 1/2 cup veggies. Very filling. I also bought some sugarless popsicles and jellor/pudding-everyonce in a while I have one when I crave between meals. I try to eat every 4.5 hours. Morning's are two eggs and cheese-omelet or small pack of oatmeal. Oh don't worry about the needles for the injections, you barely feel them, really. I watched the doc closely when he prepared mine and I had serious thoughts too, but nothing was felt when he injected me. Well looks like they are giving you 3 cc's so be sure you can drink water before you leave the facility. Water is important. Good luck. You will look great in one year or less. ken
  7. I'm kind of frustrated. I've lost nearly 50 pounds since starting the pre-op program. Pre-op clothes that fit perfectly are falling off me. Pre-op clothing that was too tight are fitting just right. So yesterday I want shopping for some fall and winter clothing and the only thing that fit was in my pre-op clothing size. :-( What gives. I never really liked shopping at LB but now I'm wondering is there something fishy with their sizing policy.

    Weight Loss and Clothing Size

I've decided to reward myself for weight loss by putting a little money away each month. Once I hit goal then I will go all out on clothes shopping

    Weight Loss and Clothing Size

Thanks ladies. Now I'm not so frustrated. I think I'm going to weight until I hit 199 pounds and then go shopping again. I'm at 214 and I'm looking kinda frail so when I hit 199 I can reassess how much more I might want to lose. Miss Mac, that is so funny. I agree Wendy Williams in not a 6/8. My daughter is a 6/8 and a good wind storm would blow her over. :-)

Question for BCBS of IL banders

I had 6 signed weight loss visit forms turned in for my visits. I only had 6 visits, BUT nothing in my paperwork actually specifically asked about whether I had been 7 times. My paperwork just showed 6 dates in 6 months. I have heard of others requiring that it be exactly 1 month between each visit, but it wasn't required for my paperwork. Or maybe it was just left up in the air for them to figure out whether I had been for six months? It wasn't lied about, but I guess it could have been left up to interpretation.

Anyone with anthem bcbs of ky??

I don't have bcbs, but I would think that the insurance company would accept the 6 month diet as a 'non surgical' method of weight loss. Non surgical would be diet pills, weight watchers, dr monitored diet plans, etc..

How Did You Celebrate Getting to Goal?

Got married. Seriously. I was married at goal weight. My DH asked me to marry him when I was obese. He had no idea I was seeking WLS options. This was my decision. Surgeon even said - a high percentage of relationships change due to one partner getting WLS since the other partner is already finds comfort in the others size. Maybe my DH like me as a "fatty" I was willing to lose him rather than lose myself. So, when did he find out I was going in for WLS? Day of final consult he went in with me and shocked me by saying he supported me. So - you don't need to get married to celebrate, this is just what I did. Yes, I looked smoking hot in my fitted dres, altered twice to ensure fit...and it was still to big.

    Hello From St Louis

I do have a primary care physician but I never once said anything to them about my process. Actually - I still have not contacted them and I was banded on November 10th. I really like Dr Eagon and his staff! It was a 7 month journey for me but I am 6 weeks out and down 13 lbs which is the most weight I have lost in 6 weeks in 10 years. good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask!

    Stall? Already?

There is no schedule for stalls and no substitute for patience. Patience is not only a virtue, it's an absolute necessity in the weight loss journey. Your goal is physical change but your challenge is mental discipline. Stay positive. Stay patient. Stay focused. Follow the protocol as closely to the letter as you possibly can. You will lose weight. The laws of science and the universe cannot be denied. But they also cannot be rushed. Allow your body to find its own way in its own time. You're going to hear it again and again - everyone is different. But one thing never changes - you're gonna love the new you!!
  15. Stalls are a natural and expected part of weight loss. Your body needs to pause to recover periodically as you lose weight. The way it was explained to me (not sure if this is technically correct but it makes sense) is that weight loss empties out the contents of fat cells, but after enough loss the body pauses to break down the cell structures themselves. This is akin to emptying out a warehouse first, then breaking down the shelves. This is why when we aren't losing weight we are losing inches, as the body breaks down fat cells. I'd stick with what you are doing, and follow the program prescribed by your doctor. I've had three significant stalls in 3 1/2 months but all of them have passed.
  16. I'm 7 months post op, and have lost 98 pounds. I want so badly to hit that 100 pound mark, but I just cant seem to get there. I've been bouncing the same 2 pounds back and forth since early December. I know most of it was Christmas. I ate more than I should, and ate things I shouldn't have. But for the last 2 weeks I have really been back on track, and still nothing! I got down to 1 tenth away from my goal, then will gain a pound again. I went back to the basics, and started tracking all my food intake. I am staying between 900-1100 calories per day, drinking lots of Water, at least 80 grams of Protein per day, staying under my limits for carbs and sugar. I just don't know what I am doing wrong? I know my exercise specialist said this was to be expected at this stage, and it happens to everyone. He said you wont see a loss for awhile, but you are still losing inches. And it will cycle back and forth every month. He said to only worry if I don't see a loss for 2 months in a row. But I'm getting close to that 2 month mark, and still no loss. Any ideas on how to break a massive stall? Here's my food for the last 2 days, any advice? Breakfast: 2 envelopes sugar free hot cocoa 1 dannon light and fit greek yogurt Lunch: 1/2 cup raw carrots 1/4 cup raw snap peas 1/4 cup hummus Snack: Isopure Protein shake Dinner: 4 ritz crackers 2 tablespoons Peanut Butter 1/4 cup cottage cheese Totals: Calories: 927 Carbs 32 Fat 32 Protein 93 Sugar 30 Breakfast: Sugar free Cappuccino Tomato juice Dannon light and fit greek yogurt Snack: Isopure protein shake Lunch: Grilled shrimp greek olives and feta Dinner: Grilled Mahi Mahi cooked carrots and snow peas Calories: 959 Carbs 66 Fat 23 Protein 120 Sugar 40
  17. Something new I tried after a 2 month stall - interval training. I watched some Youtube videos about interval training. What I gathered is that interval training is giving maximum effort for a short period, rest and do it again. Interval training does not allow your body get used to the exercise, like it does with normal daily exercise. And you continue to burn fat for hours afterwards - as opposed to regular aerobic exercise. I have no proof that it works but I noticed that my weight started falling again once I started walking the stairs at work as fast as I could. Here's what I am experimenting with: I try to climb 5 floors of stairs at the fastest pace I can. One time a day. It is really exhausting and my legs feel rubbery afterwards. I can't climb all 5 floors without stopping for 10 breaths on the 3rd floor and 10 breaths on the 4th floor. When I can do it without stopping, I'll move to doing it 2 times a day. But if I didn't have stairs, I would use a jump rope or Zumba or Insanity Workout - 3 minutes going full out then stop. Wait 1 minute then do it again. The goal being a 30 minute workout. 18. Hello April Avengers, We are almost at are anniversary huh! I have lost over 60lbs so far. I haven't lost anytihng this past month though. I go for my last fill the first week of March. I guess after that it's is truly up to me to get the rest of this weight off. I still have 60lbs to go I hope to be done by the end of summer. FOr those of you who only have like one more fill or are already fully filled are you still losing weight? What happens if you plateau and your band is already full? Any advise?

    Vacation

Finding that sweet spot can be trying and there's no guarantee that your sweet spot will be the same if you get unfilled and then filled back to that point later. I had too much fill and had it taken down to 6cc (from 8.5cc) in July. At that point I could eat whatever and however much I wanted, but since I was still maintaining my weight loss, I decided to wait until we got back from vacation for a fill. However, 3 weeks ago I noticed I was sliding rapidly to the dark side and got a 1cc fill. I still don't have restriction but in the last day or so have noticed that I do have to chew more thoroughly...which means I'm getting close. I started Atkins induction 4 days ago with the full intention of staying on induction through my vacation. This isn't a diet. It's my lifelong change. Giving myself permission to eat because "it's my birthday" or "I'm going on a cruise", etc. is what got me in this position in the first place. I need to learn to enjoy *life*...not plan my eating around life. My .02...don't get that unfill and stay on your eating regimen even on vacation. Don't look at it as punishment and resent it. Look at it as a lifestyle change and be thrilled when you come back from vacation pounds lighter...instead of heavier. .
  20. I finished up my 6 month diet yesterday and the insurance coordinator said they will submit today. This is the second time because the first time I tried to use my weight watchers weights but they denied it so I finished up my supervised diet and am hoping or a quick approval! They have 30 days to reply but I am so hoping it doesn't take that long! Anyone else have experience with bcbs of al? I'm actually in Ky. but they chose to go with AL. Any way to speed up the process or a way to find out if I am approved before they send the letter? Thanks

One week out and visit with PCP

I'm surprised, too. Most of my caregivers have been very supportive if not even guiding me that way. In fact, the reason I ultimately started to even think about and research it was because my cardiologist kept bringing it up. He said that the stats for WLS patients in terms of cardiac instances and other co-morbidities is much better - even if you only lost 50 or 60% of your excess weight. He also said that studies show that once a person has 100+ lbs to lose, the likelihood that they are going to do that on their own is pretty low. I'll never forget, he called WLS "the 1-2 punch" that my weight needed.

    11 months later.....

Thanks for the comments - I think my struggle with excercise is I work a full-time job, a part-time job from home, and I go to school part-time. After that, I'm done..... I really don't want to go walk a mile if my mind isn't into it. Eating wise and Protein wise.... I do eat alot of Beans... in chili.... and just beans that I make at home. I do make like tortilla soup with chicken in it.... and I like tuna..and eat eggs. Since my fills have been so tight in the mornings my band is so tight that even when drinking coffee or gatorade it feels like the Fluid isn't going down. So, i don't even eat Breakfast. I think I have been doing really well here lately eating wise... my only weakness is ice cream...which I never craved before...but, I think with me not eating any bread (which I use to eat alot of) ...my body is really craving SUGAR. I notice that a week i'll eat ice cream my weight goes up a little...and the next week I won't..and my weight starts to slowly go down. I just need to find a better alternative for eating just straight ice cream and not even diet. It has been a struggle let me tell you..... One thing that I do enjoy eating is fresh salsa that I make at home and the thin tortilla chips. I hope that is not bad because I eat alot of it. It seems that it doesn't bother me eating wise and I can eat more of that than anything and feel satisfied.
  23. It has been almost 11 months since I got the lap band installed. I am down about 50 lbs now.....from 412 lbs to 365 The band was really not "turned on" until April 09 (which is when I really started feeling restriction) It seems like the process is slower.... I haven't been the best at eating what i'm suppose to. I can't stand to eat meat.... it makes me feel sick all day. The only way I can really eat it is in a Soup or chili, etc. I haven't really excercised like I should other than walking my dog around the neighborhood for 15 minutes a day. I'm wondering if anyone is struggling losing weight like me.... after about the same amount of time frame. I'll post a new pic here in a sec
  24. Hello all! I was directed to this site by my surgeon. She is part of a very comprehensive bariatric program based out of Shady Grove Hospital in Maryland. I had my first pre-op consultation last week, and am in the beginning stages of getting all my testing done. I have Federal Blue Cross insurance, and am told it is a piece of cake to get this procedure approved through them, with no "red tape" so to speak. Im very excited to finally have this surgery done (have been looking into WLS for over 15 years). Im still on the fence about whether to do RNY or LapBand though- and could sure use any personal stories, research links, ect to help me decide. Im worried the LapBand wont help me... My pitfalls seem to be skipping meals (sometimes I wont eat all day), sweets, and/or eating after a certain time of day (I sometimes like to have Cereal at about 8pm). Im never hungry as it is, and try to eat healthy... But, Ive always been overweight- even as a child that grew up in a very restricted home (no sweets, soda, chips, junk of any type). Im currently 5'10" and 290lbs. I am 18 months post partum with my only child, and have not been doing anything to loose the "baby" weight until now since I was breast feeding. Before my pregnancy I was 270lbs. In any case- to me, my appearance is a bonus on this road. Im scared of dying prematurely and leaving my husband and daughter. The though consumes me... I want to break a family cycle of the women in my family dying of heart disease at an ever increasingly young age. My cholesterol is slightly elevated, as is my BP- and that was enough for me to want to make a permanent change. So after many years of battling my weight and yo-yoing, Im ready for some help... I hope to find lots of great information and support here!
  25. I have 2 daughters. I have tried very hard to raise them without the food issues that I have and instill healthy eating habits and positive body image in them. So far things are good, they are both normal eaters and at a very average weight. My oldest is 13 so body image is certainly becoming a big deal, but she has a body I would kill for! I don't think I want them to know about this surgery. I want to keep this between myself, husband and some very close friends for now. My girls love to talk and don't often remember what they have been asked not to repeat! And they would worry quite a bit about me. They know that I have been on "diets" and dread it when I do! I am thinking that I will just tell them I am having some tests done in the hospital--like when I have had colonoscopies. I have digestive issues and a sensitive stomach that has been getting worse so they would most likely believe me. And since I have been on other crazy diet plans I don't think they would question the liquid diet too much! I don't like to lie to my kids, but also am also worried about how this will affect their overall food/weight outlook. What have you told your kids, and how has your surgery affected them?
