    SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION

Well I am now 10 days post op GS revision to RNY..... That was a real trip. I had it done at Cleveland clinic Florida and they were excellent there. The worst part of my entire journey so far was that darn JP drain. Since it was my second abdominal Surgery I had to go home with one for two weeks. After a week I developed a reaction on my skin so I had to travel back and get it removed. What a relief that was. Other than that and of course the gas pains the rest was tolerable as long as I had appropriate pain meds. I am 17 pounds down from my presurgery weight. Today I got to start soft dairy. Cottage cheese never tasted so good. I have had absolutely no nausea (yet) I start soft protein on 8/10. Can't wait to taste something meaty for a change. Good luck to all. I will let you know how it goes.
  2. Having my band removed and going to a sleeve on Monday! Nervous and excited. Does anyone have any advise?
  3. Listen up this liquid diet for lap band needs to be revised

  4. I've still got some good quality jeans, sweaters, etc., from when I successfully lost 90 pounds with the lap-band, but I have to admit that I intentionally bought some smaller shirts yesterday, even though I can't fit into them yet (my revision to RNY is on August 24th). My justification is that I live in Miami, and it's always short-sleeve weather, but the stores don't realize that. They're going to start bringing in longer-sleeve shirts soon, so I needed to go ahead and get some shirts that I'll be able to wear later without dying of heat stroke. So, since they were on sale, I went ahead and picked up a few. Not many, since I still have some old stuff to pick through, but a few in each of the next couple of sizes down.
  5. I vote other. I had no complications immediately post surgery. I am know dealing with late term complications to include a twisted sleeve, hiatal hernia, and terrible Gerd. My nexium now gets stuck. Everything gets stuck! I am revising to RNY soon.

    I Have A Lot

I have a lot of weight to drop. Hoping to be revised from band to sleeve this year. Insurance does not cover so I will be traveling to Mexico. I need to focus on dropping some pounds so I can fit somewhat comfortable on the plane. I am using Dr.Altamirano through BariatricPal.

    I want off this ride!

You really need to contact Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy if your insurance company is forcing you to jump through hoops for a revision. They're working on mine now and I'm so excited. First consult is free and they are wonderful. Time and money well spent!
  8. Bobbe Schu

    UHC Case worker

I have UHC and they are MORE than impossible!!!! I have had to hire Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy to handle my appeal because UHC denied my revision! I'm so sick and tired of messing with insurance companies!!!!

    Band removal approved; bypass denied!

I did have a peer to peer which is when they approved removal of band but not the revision. So I hired an advocate and they are working on the appeal. It just seems like it's taking such a long time and I'm so very discouraged! Confident, but discouraged. I've now developed high blood pressure and feel like absolute crap! Trying so hard to be patient but just want this over with! I know in the long run the wait will be worth it, but for now I'm a mess!

    Band removal approved; bypass denied!

If you haven't yet, have your doctor to a peer-to-peer appeal on your behalf. In many cases, especially revisions, insurance companies will try to deny revisions unless you fight for them. My band-to-bypass was denied a couple of times, even though I jumped through all of their hoops, because they said that I hadn't proved that the band had a technical malfunction (I had severe acid reflux and couldn't tolerate any Fluid in the band at all, but apparently that didn't count, lol) and couldn't prove that I had been compliant with diet and exercise (I had been, but had to switch surgeons three times when I moved to new states, so I didn't have records). I finally asked my surgeon to do a peer-to-peer appeal, and was approved the same day.

    I want off this ride!

Are you appealing or your doctor on your behalf? What insurance? If they try this with me I will be writing an appeals letter, calling them weekly and seeing my doctor and the ER will know me by my first name.I am not playing with them.I want it out and revised.
  12. Ditto all of this. Maybe I have a skewed perception because I've succeeded with my lap-band and then regained weight (due to complications and issues with the band). Back when I first had surgery, I was all gung-ho about educating people about WLS and spreading the gospel, so to speak. The problem is, most people consider WLS surgery to be a magical cure-all for obesity, and if you start gaining weight back, you become the "friend of a friend of a friend" that everyone warns you about when you first tell them you're looking into surgery. They think that because you're sharing something private with them, that it's public knowledge and can then be gossiped about, or that you want their advice on how to lose weight. Bottom line is that it is not your responsibility to educate the masses about the joys of WLS. If you aren't 100% comfortable telling people about having surgery, dealing with all of the extra input that people will think you want (because God forbid we don't want to know about the friend of a friend of a friend that died, or regained weight, or had major complications), or with their suggestions on "better" ways to lose weight, then don't tell anyone. For me, I don't plan on telling any more people than absolutely necessary about my revision from lap-band to RNY (more people know about it now than I'm comfortable with, due to my parent's inability to respect my personal privacy). I'm no one's WLS mentor or the poster-child for WLS, and I don't wish to become one. What capacity do you serve on this forum? You are not a poster child but you do offer your input. It is left up to each individual to take your information and use it in a way that best suits them.

    I want off this ride!

I get it! I am currently trying the second time for a revision after a rejection last year. Just remember that its a journey. Because of your acid reflux you might not be a good fit for the sleeve.
  16. Pinkgirl1234

    Still waiting; (

Are you revising to the Sleeve or Bypass?
  17. I was told to not drink 20 minutes before a meal and 20 minutes after. Put the fork down between bites. Eat for 20 minutes only. 2 bites of Protein, 1 bite of veg, carbs should be avoided - but if wanted then only be the last bite. Eat 3 meals a day only (no snacking). No carbonation, no sugar. Eat without distraction (no tv, no reading, etc.). 80 oz of Water a day. Didn't have to worry about counting calories or measuring food if these rules were followed. From what I understand my Dr. has since revised some of these basics like drinking before a meal and the snacking. Sometimes I think it would be wise for the clinics / Dr. to update their veteran banded patients on the newer findings on the to do's/not to do's of the LapBand. Things change. Thanks for this topic!
  18. Unfortunately, this is part of losing a large amount of weight. At first, it's really nice to know that people are noticing the change, but then it's like, "Geeze, people lose and gain weight every day, let it go!" Some people are genuinely happy for you, and others are just Nosy Nellies looking for a good tidbit of gossip to spread around. And to be honest, it's even worse if you're upfront about having surgery. Then, people think that because you shared that information, that you want to know about an aunt of a friend of a friend of their cousin who died/regained weight/had complications, or that you want to know all the "better" alternatives to surgery and the people that have had success with them, or that you want to share every grisly detail about how much you weighed, how much you lost, all the complications you may have had, etc. When I first had lap-band surgery and initially lost 90 pounds, I eventually got to the point where I REALLY wanted to tell people, "Yes, I've lost weight. No, I don't want to tell you how, or hear stories about how person XYZ lost weight, or give you recipes, or hear your recipes, or give you tips, or hear about someone you know who had surgery and failed, etc.!" And here I go again, getting a revision to RNY. I WISH I could keep it to myself, but unfortunately, my parents are incredibly insensitive to the fact that they're sharing my private medical information, and have already blabbed to every single person they know, lol. I should have kept it to myself, but I just moved to a new state last year and needed someone to stay with me after surgery, and didn't want to share the info with coworkers.
  19. I was sleeved (revision from band) on 4/27/15 and really struggled through the first 3 months feeling like it just wasn't happening for me! I am close to three and a half months post-op and wanted to share some things that plagued me the first few months. It gets better! I have finally hit a stride and feel like I will be successful after all!! Tiredness/Fatigue: Weeks 2-8, I felt like crap. No energy. Naps were required! I really worried that THIS would be my life forever! It's really not. I had put my body through a LOT and it needed to catch up! Feeling great now! Stall: Yep, total HALT weeks 3-7! I worried that I had done all of this surgery for less than 30 pounds. I was so down about this! I stayed the course and now I am back to losing daily (ounces sometimes, but daily)! I am tucking this advice away for inevitable future stalls myself! Don't give up! scales LIE: My scale obsession is still alive and kicking but I no longer panic. The scale will not always reflect your body's changes. To combat this, measure yourself or notice the way clothes are fitting looser. For me, taking a full length photo of front and side views and using a photo app to put them side-by-side gave me proof I needed. Constipation: I was constantly trying different things to make me poop. I didn't have discomfort.... I just felt like I should be pooping more. Well, I decided to let my body work it out. I now poop once every 5 days. If I feel discomfort of course I will use Ducolax or SmoothMove Tea but I am not constantly focused on daily pooping. Water and Protein Goals: These are still a struggle and some days I can only do one and not the other. I try every but I no longer panic... I focus on these two things first and do the best I can. "Cheating": I have come to terms with my imperfection. I make every attempt to make wise choices, but I don't beat myself up about a bite of my son's chocolate bar... I used buy three of them and give him one! LOL Hang in there! It is worth it... YOU are worth it.
  20. I'm from Biwabik. Still trying to figure things out. My insurance will not cover this so trying to find someone that wants my money. Believe it or not some places don't take self pay for revisions-go figure.
  21. I am also concerned.I want a successful revision...years later I don't want regrets because there will be not a 3rd surgery...can't do it.
  22. betrthnever

    I can't wait, I'm so excited!

What is a "peer-to-peer appeal"? So awesome, losing! Great to hear. I will continue the fight for hope for a revision!

    Question for the ladies.

I think you are MUCH better off until you are done losing weight and have maintained for at least a couple of months. Some recommend a year of maintenance, but I think 4-6 months would probably be adequate. I had breast lift with augmentation after losing 90 pounds a few years ago. I since regained 80 of that, ultimately got sleeved, and now I am below the weight I'd been at when I got them done. The weight regain and loss definitely took a bit of a toll on the lift part. They are saggier again now than I would like them to be and I'm considering a revision. In any case, my point is that it's best to be at a stable weight, because additional weight loss or gain after the procedure can effect your long-term results.

    Lapband erosion

One individual in our Bariatric Support Group Meeting had a revision because his band began to erode into his stomach. He had to have it removed. This condition is very dangerous. When it was gone he gained a significant amount of weight back. He had a RNY. Because of the scarring his pouch was a little smaller than most patients. This limited his food intake a little. He lost a lot of weight and was very pleased with the results. He said he would do it (the revision) again in a minute.

band slippage - sick - surgery next week

I had the revision from band to sleeve on June 1st and I wonder why I waited so long to do it. I would never get another band.
