Just being goofy
I can do this too! replied to confusedturtle3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always thought the size of those cups of yogurt were sort of a joke! Who could ever just eat one and be full. Now I know, sometimes I can’t even a full cup of yogurt! -
8 days after surgery and diarrhea
JewlzInFL replied to Bobcats's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 9 days post-op and was feeling great until last night, and had a couple "normal" BMs. Last night I took a turn and also have diarrhea now and feel pretty dehydrated and don't want to drink much. I haven't had anything thicker than thin yogurt, so people have been saying "liquid in - liquid out", so I'm assuming we're still adjusting. Try some Gass X for bloating! It helps me -
Double question about soft foods and miralax
Dfox1984 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I’ve been on soft foods for about a week and a half. I’m a SUPER picky eater so I keep eating the same things (eggs, yogurt, promier protein). I don’t want to gain weight by eating mashed potatoes every day. That sounds stupid, right? I’m only eating 4 bites of food, how could I gain weight? But I haven’t lost hardly any weight and this coming Tuesday I’ll be 4 weeks post op. Idk hat to do. Can I get some soft food suggestions? I was all excited bc in the binder my doc office gave me it said two weeks soft food and when I had my palsy op appt they said 8 weeks!!! I’m so sad so any soft food tips or ideas of soft foods would be great. Ok second question: does miralax not work for some people? I took it two days ago and barely pooped at all! Isn’t it supposed to make me poop a lot? Like get it all out? Thanks for any help or suggestions!!!! -
I lost 28.6 lbs preop, 21 lbs of that was during my 6 months medically supervised diet then 7.6 lbs during my 2 weeks preop diet which was liquids and veggies plus yogurt. I wasn't required to lose any of it.

4 oz lite yogurt today
OutsideMatchInside replied to dreamynow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yogurt is basically a liquid if it isn't a greek yogurt. You really shouldn't be eating until full. That is a bad habit to start. Measure your portions and only eat that amount. -
I have coffee during my commute and then Greek yogurt with half scoop protein powder and high protein Kashi at 9:30-10.

On soft foods, I could have veggies that were steamed or canned fork squishy. I avoided seeds like tomato seeds, cucumber seeds, and zuchinni seeds. I also was told to not eat celery unless I destringed it even if it was cooked soft. Fruit. I was allowed canned fruit, again squishy. I was told to go easy on the fresh fruit due to the tough digestion of fibrous foods. Absolutely NO peels. I also had a small applesauce or two. I really didn't do cereal because of the low Protein and fear of becoming a slider food. I tried mixing flavorless protein with my oatmeal, but it made a weird texture, and if it got the least bit hot, it clumped. I did have string cheese in tiny well chewed bits, but not at first. Melted cheese was fine. mostly protein, tuna, other fish, ground meats, chicken cooked moist and tender, cottage cheese, greek yogurt. I wasn't allowed raw fruits and veggies until 6 weeks. I loved my first salad.

Banded last mondey, Scrub to this new world wat do ?
Heihachi posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dear All. Its what 3 day's now into my post op, I have to say this morning I fell much better, had issues with trying to sleep on the side, due to port pain, guess that's typical, been eating only yogurt's and filtered Soups, I'm not hungry doc had set some filling initially into my belt, it was the larger size able to hold, 15cc I think. Anyways, here I am saying Hello. -
I was banded in May 2011 by Dr.Ortiz in TJ Mexico. I can't believe it's been 9 months since surgery. I have only kept the first 10 pounds off since surgery. I have had 2 fills & I'm at 8cc in a 10cc band. I know what I'm doing to sabotage my success...I don't exercise, I eat foods that are "easy" to eat (ice cream, yogurt, pudding, and i have found that if you smother things with ranch dressing & butter & it goes down easier, and chocolate!) I get VERY discouraged but I've realized it's not the band, it's ME! I thought it would be a quick fix, I yo-yo with my weight & I wanted something that would regulate my food, which the band does, but I have gotten used to the loop-hole way of eating around the band. At least I can say I haven't gained. I started to go to the gym about 3 weeks ago & that has helped a lot, now I need to work on the food side. I would like to lose the last 30 pounds by my 1 year anniversary date in May....so I've got 14 weeks...and I hope with the support of this site, and my new found resolution to be rid of the control I let food have over me & realize I'M WORTH THE EFFORT, I will achieve my goal!! Thanks for reading my rant, I hope you all have success on your lap-band journey, cause it ain't easy!!!

I still try to drink a Protein shake (usually as a protein coffee) every day, to boost my protein intake. So tubs of Syntrax nectar are just a part of my life now. I eat hard boiled eggs almost every day. I also eat cheese sticks and vanilla greek yogurt a few days a week. I go through stints where I eat Jerky like it's going out of style. Oh, and for snacking? I love me some smoked paprika roasted chickpeas or sriracha chickpeas - or even some wasabi peas if I'm splurging. I eat half a portion size but feel like I just binged on a bag of chips after that small snack. I usually make a double batch and they keep nicely in an airtight container with a layer of paper towels to absorb moisture. Yum! ~Cheri

Ok, so I'm gonna give you unpopular advice, but advice that comes from the men and women who give us these surgeries and the RDs who work for them... We will never be "perfect" but you can at least plan for "ideal" and accept that you are human. What the means? Don't look at mini meals as high reward events to "treat" yourself. Don't plan for maintaining or supporting the negative habit of "snacking" by making it a high reward event. Go for boring. Go for fuel. Change the thought and reframe it. Right now, you need to eat minimeals cuz of your volume limits and how new you are post op. So each meal should NOT consist of highly processed foods. It should be 3-6 pretty evenly balanced calorie/macro mini-meals. (And from my standpoint I try to do clean/low reward/minimally processed foods that still satisfy--but that's just me.) So mini meals now, since I can get most if not all of my food into 3 events, is actually 3 meals + 1-2 "snacks" of 100cals or less (think raw veggies and a yogurt ranch dip--homemade) if ABSOLUTELY necessary. Snacking is a slippery slope--especially if you can eat 1cup of food volume per meal. It just packs on mindless (often slidery calories) that will inhibit maximum weight loss. And it's so possible to have a 500-600 calorie snack from crap! And if we've made it to the MO Ball, chances are we KNOW how to snack. So a better question would be, what are some QUICK and easy mini meals? 1. Cheese stick/baby bel/light wedges 2. 1-2oz rotisserie chicken 3. L/F or plain yogurt with 1oz blueberries + PB2 powder 4. Cottage cheese + 1oz of some kind of fruit you can eat or some savory veg 5. Tuna/chicken/salmon pouches (2oz) 6. P3 (processed, but still sometimes necessary) 7. Lunchmeat roll-ups (processed, but still sometimes necessary) 8. Bone broth 9. Leftover meats from previous meals 10. SF Jello 11. SF Popsicles 12. 1 cup of raw veggies or salad with Greek Ranch dressing 13. 1 cup of cooked veg or salad of your choice with minimal calorie dressing 14. hard boiled eggs 15. 1 tbsp nut butter with veggie sticks 16. Iced protein latte or frappacino 17. cold boiled shrimp 18. meat stick/beef jerky (processed but sometimes still necessary) 19. hummus and carrots or raw veggies 20. thinking... I could go on and on...

Thanks for all the replies, I think I will call my surgeon tomorrow....Ive probably thrown up at least 20 times since last thursday. Yogurt and Applesauce go down sometimes it depends on when i try it. Ive tried everything i possibly can. I eat 2 bites and bam it comes back up. My surgeon has said when im at the right level i should be eating 1cup - 1 1/2 cups of food at a time....2 bites deff isnt that, not even 1/4 cup. My stomach hurts, I just hope i havent made my band slip, If i lose this band I lose the hope of ever being normal. Thanks again guys!! ~Hotpink~

Call your Dr's office this AM! Cheese is not always band friendly - It tends to glob and stick. Have you tried broth or perhaps yogurt to get some protein in. Also remember that in this type of situation - a liquid protein shake might be a good idea.

Not that Interested in food
Healthy_life replied to Separ1418's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I get food cravings at times. It's manageable. I keep healthy options for sweet and salty foods on hand. (make sure they fit your plan) Sweet - fruit dipped in sugar free caramel/chocolate syrup. Dannon light n fit yogurt. Skinny girl raspberry vinaigrette on a chicken strawberry salad. Salty- Jerky, veggies dipped in hummus or chicken fajitas. Food may be a chore at first. Real and head hunger will return. Eat real whole foods to hit your protein goals. It will help you feel more satiated. As you progress you will be able to consume more food.(especially sleeves) Eating shakes and bars for meals is not sustainable long term. Keep them on hand for times your on the run and cant get a meal in. Hi all. I was 21 months out on Sept. 14th and went to my doctor for follow-up. I go see him every 3 months. I am still doing great. I have lost 75 lbs. (I really only had 60 to lose all mainly in my abdomen). Those of you who know my story know that most of my stomach had protruded through my diaphragm. I had a Nissen Fundiplication surgery for my reflux in 1999, and this was a result of that. Anyway, my stomach was lodged between my lungs headed for my heart so with my sleeve surgery at the same time he had to repair that which took and additional 2 1/2 hours. My doctor told me that your restrictions change at 18 months post-op so it is important to stay on track. This time when I went, he said I have lost too much muscle mass in the last three months, which will affect my metabolism, so he said I need to start working out with weights on my upper body and get that up before December hen I see him again. I was doing endurance training on the treadmill but I had to have unexpected arthroscopic surgery on my knee to remove a meniscus tear in July, so that slowed down my walking and treadmill, so that contributed to my muscle mass loss since I was not exercising everyday for awhile. So today I will see a personal trainer and start on a weight program for my upper body only (I lost so much I need to tone my biceps so they don't look like crepe paper!). Also I need to increase my RTD protein drinks to two per day. He also said that the powdered protein drinks were not as good as everyone thinks, because people add so much to them, ie, bananas, sugary fruits, yogurt, etc. that they end up having too much sugar and calories in them. I have always used the RTD anyway, because I couldn't stand the aftertaste or consistency of the ones made from powder. So at this point, the surgery is still the best thing I have ever done for myself, went from an 18 jeans to a 2 jeans, and couldn't be happier. Not on any meds anymore whatsoever and healthier than I have ever been my entire adult life. Don't give up or get discouraged. It does not happen over night, but you be stay on track and stay committed. The weight is bound to come off if you are only eating about 8 oz. at a time. I still have a hard time getting in 1,000 calories a day! Good luck to all of you. Also, you will love this forum. You can learn so much from others who have done it before you. Don't be afraid to ask anything on here! I learned so much from this forum.

a tub of yogurt might have fallen on her!!!

I'm a little shy of 2 weeks post op, which is Wednesday, and I've now moved on to my full liquid diet. I've added yogurt, cottage cheese, soups, etc. Ever since adding these foods I've stopped loosing weight and at times gained a few pounds. During the clear liquid diet (pre-op and one week after surgery) I would loose almost a pound a day. This stall is heartbreaking because I feel like I'm already failing. Could it just be my body getting use to food or am I already eating too much?

Stuck Feeling in my throat
cheryl2586 replied to Amanda1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont think you ruined anything but its not worth it to upgrade your diet until you are told to do so. I just wouldnt and you might want to start with pudding (sugarfree) or soft scrambled eggs when you can upgrade and yogurt. Hard boiled eggs are the worst even a year later. -

Amounts/quantities of foods?
learn2cook replied to kasanya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only have had bypass so I can share what my team said. At one month I was eating 2 oz of protein. It was still soft like yogurt. I would have a snack like 1 oz cheese and make up the difference with shakes. I needed a lot of snacks of cheese and yogurt to keep my energy up at work. I used the little OXO toddler containers to measure and prep. Now I use the 2oz containers for mustard or dressing or veggies. My team’s goal was for me to eat real food, and 4 oz of protein at one meal, 3x a day. I have a support group for the program with switch, bypass, and sleeve and we all have that goal. The switch people have higher protein goals due to higher malabsorption. I personally was not able to eat 4 oz of real food until 4months. Most folks in the program get to 6 months before eating 4oz. That was 4 oz by volume, at 6 months I explained that I was very hungry and they said to switch it to weighed (with a food scale) 4 oz. When you can eat 4 oz weight of protein then start eating veggies. It’s based upon what you can do individually. Obviously drink 64 oz volume of water, and take the vitamins, the rest is up to you and your body. I had many surprise liquid poops until I got to soft meats like fish and sausage innings. When I ate real food as opposed to the shakes I got regular again. -
This experience has been great for me so far. My Doctor was wonderful. I was given a picture of my new pouch and it looked so good. I went into the Hospital at 268 pounds and 1week later I am now 243 pounds. I thought I was going to have a hard time with drinking and taking Vitamins but it has not been a problem. I don't feel hungry or frustrated. After 1 week of clear fluids it was great to have yogurt today. I was so close canceling my surgery the day of because I thought I was making a mistake. My wife talked to me and gave me a lot of support and I remembered all the videos I watched on You Tube that gave me comfort. I am a type 2 Diabetic and happy to say that I am off all Meds and now and have a normal blood sugar. If anyone is having seconds thoughts about this surgery please take your time and listen to other people with there expierances and go to YouTube and search Sleeve surgery you will find so much comfort listening to others with there story. I can say that it really helped me with my decision. Good luck to all and just know you will feel so good about yourself and become a new person.

Keri has a good Idea with the meal replacment bars. I usually use the drinkable yogurt when we are going to be out and about all day.. It's hard, at my brothers house they have alot of the pre football goodies. I could live on Nachos they are my favorite but I try and eat a good meal before going over or at least drink alot of water to cut the room in my pouch.. Let me tell you I try everyday...

Looking for some help from others!
dert replied to swieners's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Foods with high protein: Protein shakes eggs Any kind of meat Fish << super good for you Dairy products (skim milk, cheese, yogurt) Beans of any kind Nuts and seeds It totally depends on what kind of calories you are looking to consume, but try to eat a small meal every 2 hours throughout the day, and that small meal should include some kind of protein. A typical eating day for me would be like this: 8 a.m.: 1 egg with some diced veggie in it, scrambled with a small glass skim milk 10 a.m.: 10 almonds Noon: Vegetable Soup 2 pm: Small can of tuna fish with spicy brown mustard 4 pm: 1 Protein shake. Or, perhaps some hummus on pita chips 6 pm: Green salad with steak or chicken in it. Lots of greens, not so much dressing. 8 pm: Glass of skim milk and a small piece of chocolate Hope that helps a little? :-) -
Today I weighed in at 220.4. So I lost 1.6 lbs this week. My total weight loss is at 25.6 lbs. I'm glad I hit the 25 lb mark and now my goal is to be out of the 220's (FOREVER!). On average (since surgery) I am losing 2.6 lbs a week. I am in a 1x comfortably in tops (I have a NSV - non scale victory - of fitting into several tops that I kept but I could barely get into on the 1x side). My pants are probably an 18 and a half (but since they don't make that size I am wearing 20's and some 18's). I bought a pair of 18W white jean capri yesterday at Kohols that i will have to "strech out" before wearing and I bought the CUTEST linen tops in XL from the women's section and I think I can get away with them if I wear a compression tank underneath (or strech them). If not I'll wear them when I start to go down to the XL size (they were that cute The only planned exersize I got this week was dancing in a Zumba flash mob this past Saturday (fun but boy do I look HUGE on the video). I've collected quite a bit of small containers and make my Bento lunch each day. I like that I can snack all day by just grabbing one (I usually have four containers). The other day I had greek vanilla yogurt in one 4 oz container. Go lean crunch cereal in a 1 oz container to mix into the yogert, a 4 oz container of cottage cheese, a 4 oz container of hamburger with mac and cheese, a 4 oz container of marinated cucumber, onion, green pepper mix. It was an eclectic mix but I ate them so spaced out that it didn't bother me. I am currently contemplating joining the Y for $50 a month to go to the aerobics classes and to use the pool for lap swimming. Part of me wants to start a walking program first at home using my zillion Walk Away the Pounds tapes first and then join the Y when school gets out and I have a more flexible schedule. I still need to work on remembering that I have had the surgery so that I stop grabbing larger portions of food that I can't eat AND remembering to eat on a pretty regular schedule. Yesterday I had breakfast and didn't eat again until 3:00 p.m. I was STARVING (I was shaking and the start of a headache was kicking in) and wolfed down some rolls at a restarant and was so sick until I walked around until I felt better (thank goodness...the person I was with was worried about me.). My lesson learned from that experience was to pack a protein bar when I know I am not going to be eating for awhile and to not start with the bread basket! Attached is a picture of me in my Zumba Flash Mob tshirt. Until next week!

This difference in recommended diets after surgery is bizarre! I think my DR is more progressive than others. She told me to start with liquids and test the waters into mushies and solids whenever I felt like it. 1/2 cup maximum per sitting. I just took a bite and waited to see how it sat. If it didn't feel right I quit. I just had my first fill Friday. I couldn't tolerate even yogurt for about 24 hours but then I was good to go with mushies. BTW my ticker is wrong. As of today I've lost 24 1/2 lbs. I can't figure out how to change my ticker! DAH!!!
