I am doing good. I struggled with the diet that they gave us, and chose to use one from another doctor. I am still only eating protein shakes, SF pudding, light yogurt, chicken broth, popsicles, and strained cream of chicken soup. I think I am going to try mashed potatoes tomorrow. How are you doing? how is your diet going? did you use the one he gave us? how was your trip home? we were lucky to have an extra day at the recovery house which helped. I am not as tired as I read that some people were. that part scared me. I actually felt energetic and good. Not tired and lethargic like I thought I would. how about you??

Thank you Mikee. I am definitely not weighing myself on a daily basis which is good. I am just struggling with my cravings for flavor and crunch---yogurt, pudding, chicken broth only goes so far. On Wednesday, I get to start the pureed stage...Not planning on pureeing anything but scrambled eggs count in this stage so I'm excited. Congrats on the first fill! My first fill is scheduled for April 9th.

It has been a week since I have been banded and I am becoming very worried about my eating habits. I am on the mushy food stage and they only fill me up for about 2 hours and then I'm starving again. My parents are worried about my calorie intake and I am as well. I know when I am hungry but I am having a hard time telling when I'm full because it still feels like I'm hungry. It is making me very upset and questioning if I made the right choice or not with getting the band. I have just eaten a cup of Greek yogurt and I still feel somewhat hungry. I'm needing all the advice I can get. I tried the protein drinks and I'm having a hard time drinking those because they just taste awful to me.

Online "support group" not very supportive
ColieCallwell posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a person who always wants to know the "why" behind a rule (unfortunately!). So, as I've slowly been progressing through my surgeon's plan (still on pureeds for two more weeks, and I'm 7 weeks out), I've started wondering if we will always have to drink protein shakes. I hate them, they taste gross, and the ingredients list is like 5 paragraphs long full of things I can't even say - besides that, they're full of carbs and often high calorie. And if we do have to always drink them, why? Why can't we meet our protein goals through eating real food? For example, an egg and a morningstar breakfast sausage patty is 16 grams of protein and 150 calories. The protein shake I drink is almost 300 calories (bariatric advantage with PB2 over a plant based milk). Also, bone broth, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, tuna are all high protein, low calorie options that taste way better than protein shakes. If a person is able to meet protein goals and still stay around 600 calories a day during weight loss phase, why the shakes? (I don't know if that's feasible, I haven't tried it - I am still drinking the nasty protein). So, I posted the question to the online support group my surgeon keeps on Facebook. I asked if a person can meet their daily protein goal through real food, are protein shakes still required. Man! You would have thought I asked if I could eat a full meat lovers pizza from Papa John's! People launched on me, accused me of eating too much food, told me if I wanted to lose weight and maintain it I HAD to drink protein shakes for life. Then the surgeon came on and publicly shamed me, said I was way off track and wasn't following the plan. What bomb did I set off??? And nobody ever explained WHY the shakes are required??? The previous time before this when I asked a question, almost the same thing happened. I asked if I could drink the Unjury ready made shakes instead of the powder because they taste so much better. People berated me, and told me the ready made shakes were not good for me. Then the surgeon chimed in and said the ready made were not as good because they are protein caseinate instead of whey isolate. Um, the packaging clearly says the Unjury brand is whey protein isolate. So now why are they bad for me? The next day, my surgeon posted a long post about people having this surgery and not taking it seriously. I can't help but think it was in response to my question about protein shakes. I didn't even have Facebook, I deleted it in 2016 when things started to get so nasty online. I only started using it again to join my surgeon's group. I cancelled following the page. I was really ticked off at the responses. I'm so angry I don't even want to continue with my surgeon's office. AND, by the way, I am not way off track, I've lost 41 lbs. in these last 7 weeks, and I'm really happy with that. Started at 235, now 194 (and have been losing about 1 lb a day for the last few days). I know I'm being a baby, I think I just needed to vent. I do like my surgeon when we meet one on one for appointments. Facebook is evil. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -

lap-band in college
AlienBandit replied to ohlalauren's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
do u live in a dorm or can u cook for ur self? In College if u have a apartment style housing it can be really easy to cook for your self. If u have a meal plan then eating in the cafe can be a challenge. Look for yogurts and softer foods like Soups etc your first little while post op or pack Protein shakes etc that you can eat between classes. Since your surgery is on Wed and u dont go back til Mon you should be fine. If ur keeping it a secret just tell people you slipped on the ice ( if there is snow then) or hurt your self working out if anyone asks why ur taking it easy. The first couple of days can be sore but make sure u move around a lot. -

Hi! I am 6 months post sleeve. I have been having protein shakes for breakfast since I was sleeved, but my dr isn't a fan of shakes and wants me to try to eat real food. He also believes in low carb and no white stuff. I get sick of eggs quickly. And while my sleeve and I are getting along fairly well she gets a little testy in the morning so I can't eat anything too heavy. Also my dr doesn't want me to eat anything mushy like oatmeal or yogurt. Anyone have any ideas? I am nut-less because the one I had was useless. Thanks.

Surgery next week... HELP with Protein!
PlannerGirl replied to MrsMaddBroadway's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I type, I'm enjoying my first "full liquid" since my surgery on Thursday. I am having some non fat Greek yogurt with some nectar brand "fuzzy navel" Protein powder in it and a little bit of splenda. My two ounces provides 11 grams of protein. Prior to my surgery I tried some other things. I mixed unjury unflavored into ff/sf pudding which tasted completely regular and I put some unjury chocolate into skim milk which wasn't completely horrible. I've been told the unflavored works well in sugar free Jello provided you do the boiling Water separate from the protein and mix the protein in with the cold and combine the two once the jello has dissolved and cooled a bit. Key is, there are lots of ways to disguise your Protein Powder. Get the high quality ones.....it's ok to spend a little extra, your food bill is definitely smaller. I've been really happy with the unjury and the best price I found for it is on Amazon.com Don't let your fear of protein deter you from the task at hand. You're on a mission for a healthier life and the liquid diet is short term. Once you can eat regular food again, if you always do protein first you should be able to avoid protein drinks all together. Try some different powders and recipes. It will be ok. Good luck! -
im hungry and can barely eat
celebrate*me replied to daluvoflife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 weeks also. I had my surgery the same day as you. To answer ur question, I do get full really fast with food which is why I'm still doing the bulk of my meals as Protein shakes so that I get an adequate amount of protein daily. Actually the only foods I can tolerate are eggs Beans yogurt and tuna. Everything else causes me to vomit and gets stuck in my chest. -
Approved Snacks for Liquid Diet
MsJeannetteA posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my liquid diet today and received my list of guidelines from the nurse. We are allowed Soup and some other items as our 3rd meal. These other items include: low fat cottage cheese, sugar free popsicles, sugar free pudding, low fat yogurt, sugar free Gelatin. I take that to mean i can have any of those as my in between snack... am I interpreting this correctly? I had soup for lunch at 12 and at 3pm i'm having a sugar free pudding and then around 6:30-7 i'll have a shake. Just want to see from y'alls point of view if i'm following this correctly. Thanks! -
Talk me OFF my eating ledge! Help? :-)
megansmommy123 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9 days post op, and starting to eat things I shouldn't! I am supposed to be on 2 weeks of liquids, cream soups and yogurt are allowed. The first week I did strictly broths and water, protein shakes. Then slowly started with yogurt and cream soups thinned with milk. Now in the last 2 days I have been slowly trying other soft foods. They are going down fine, no pain, nothing bad happening. But in the back of my mind I know I am not supposed to start soft foods for another 5 days. So far I have had a bite of mashed potatoes, a few tablespoons chili mushed up into very thin consistency, a small piece of cheese that I sucked on until it was liquid. I know I shouldn't, so why cant I say no!?! I'm not hungry, no hunger at all, I just feel like I should eat something that isn't chicken broth! -
I totally get where you are. I’m 3 days from seeing the doctor and getting the green light to move up in foods. I’m tired of shakes, pudding, yogurts, etc between pre-op and post-op we’re talking 4 weeks of nothing... BUT... my way of doing things got me to where I am!! So every time I get the urge to eat something off my list I remind myself what I want and walk away. I’m not hungry, I don’t need it, and it’s not worth it. If I cheat now, I’m just giving myself permission to cheat later. If you’re truly hungry, call your team tomorrow and get permission to move on. Just my thoughts.

I had roasted chicken today and some green beans thinking I could eat this with no issues . I have to tell you it took me forever and I did not even finish it . You know I have no issue when it comes to eating potatoes and beans and yogurt

Night Shift RN Here, Needing Advice Please!
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to jenrford89's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m not an RN yet but a monitor tech and work 1900-730. I usually eat like this- 1700- dinner at home usually lean protein and veggies (150 calories) 2100- protein shake or bar sometimes I skip this (100-150 calories) 2300- yogurt with fruit (usually blueberries) (100 calories) 0200- veggies and/or protein shake (50-150 calories) 0800- snack when I get home usually egg white or cheese stick with a veggie (75-150 calories) I usually get my liquid intake in between meals and usually hit 80+ not including protein shakes. Right now my calorie intake is aimed at 600-800 a day with at least 60g of protein. I’m usually pretty good about reaching those goals most days. -
Puréed food
mylighthouse replied to justabitunique's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello I actually didn't have to puree my chicken when I was on the pureed stage. You should be able to just mash canned chicken or tuna REALLY well and mix some non fat or low fat mayo with it. I did that a lot on the pureed stage. I also did nonfat refried Beans with a little bit of light sour cream.... added my unjury unflavored Protein powder to the refried beans and it was good. Greek plain, nonfat yogurt (added Stevia to sweeten it), cottage cheese, wet scrambled eggs (I used Egg Beaters). If you want extra protein, you can mix a good unflavored Protein Powder in the cottage cheese, yogurt, beans, etc. And of course I did my Premier Protein shakes while on the pureed stage. -
I can't swallow pills for 3 months. All my vitamins are chewable or sublingual. Any capsules I open up and eat with a spoon of yogurt. Anything else would have to be crushed.

i initially did my whey Protein (body fortress from walmart vanilla) with DECAF coffee...ICED. you literally CANNOT taste it. everything is going to taste crappy untill you get it all out of your system. I hated everything for 3 weeks ..misery. Now my favorites are salads and greek yogurt.... its amazing. woulda never eaten this stuff before. greek yogurt when you get approved for it is awesome with splenda, tastes just like regular and you get a lot of protein.

Tomorrow is the big day. I have been on my liquid diet for four days. Today has been the easiet day so far. I am actually pretty lucky because I can have yogurt/apple sauce/pudding. all of them have to be sugar free or fat free. It has not been so bad. The first day was the worse. I knew it was bad when I was sitting my pantry contemplating sucking on a cracker. Anyways, my surgery is tomorrow at 2:45 p.m. Starting to feel the butterflies.....so everyone say a little prayer or cross your fingers that everything goes okay!!!

Finally got to eat....
blashlee replied to blashlee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. So far I've had yogurt, scrambled egg, refried Beans, and string cheese. Everything has gone down well. Yogurt seems to be a "slider" food tho, so i won't be relying on it much for my meals and my doctor doesn't condone Snacks. It's s great Protein source but it didn't fill me up at all. I was drinking Premier Protein mostly. I also had Proteins from Cellucor (Red Velvet was my favorite, I haven't tried it post op) and also Syntrax Fuzzy Navel (haven't been able to tolerate it post op). I drank a lot of Iced Passion Tea from Starbucks and crystal light strawberry lemonade. -

Mushy food question
Tiffykins replied to fullhandsfullheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Puddings, yogurt, cottage cheese were all considered full liquids on my program. Mushies/purees/soft foods were all the same. Deli meat can be chewed to nothing so it wasn't stringy or dense like a chicken breast. -

2 Week Post Op- Eating too much?
catwoman7 replied to UTGal2006's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you're not going to feel much (if any) restriction until you move to solid foods - also, you've had some nerves cut in your stomach, and it takes awhile for them to regenerate - so your stomach isn't really talking to your brain at this point. So you really have to just follow the guidelines your clinic gave you since you can't rely on hunger/full cues at this point. soup and yogurt go right through you - so you won't feel "full" on those even after your nerves are back again. also, for some of us, full cues aren't the same as they were before surgery. I really never feel full now, the way I did before surgery. Now I start feeling what can best be described as an uncomfortable pressure in my chest. I know when I get to that point I need to stop, or I'm going to be sorry. Other people have had kind of weird things like runny noses or sneezing as their new "full" cue. You may feel a normal "full" feeling at some point (some people do), but probably not for a few weeks yet when you're eating solids, your stomach is fully healed, and your nerves have started to grow back. -
I liked the Fage Greek yogurt from walmart with some protein powder in it.
