Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Happy Belated Thanksgiving Everyone! Sounds as if everyone had a great day! With my family, a holiday is never just one day but a multiple, this time a three day feast! I did ok, wt up 2 lbs yesterday and already 1 of those is gone, so thinking some was just water. I had a nsv too. I had cleaned out my closet and taken the clothes that were too large for me. I had intended to give them to my mother and sister who have always been about the same size as me. I was pleasantly surprised to find that most were too small for them and fit my neice (22). I'm glad someone can use them regardless. And they are out of my closet never to return! Good luck So and Joanne on your upcoming surgeries! Hope everyone has a great day! Hugs, Pat

Hi Gals, I'm back as promised. Had some company the past week so just threw an eye in here and a quick post. Nicole1: I like the idea of behavior changes as a goal, with or without losing weight because in the end, if we continue to change our old habits, we'll eventually lose the weight! I've been slacking off with journaling, tracking, Water, and exercising. Not even my FitBit got me motivated! No excuses but I can name many but that would be an old behavior now wouldn't it? :-) I got back to working out, bought all new Vitamins {I stopped with them too} got the Fitbit on, and getting my mojo up and running. Did Leslie Sansone's 5 mile burning fat DVD yesterday. One would think walking is a piece of cake but I have to say, she can kick your butt and feel a great workout afterwards. Kymie: thanks for the website re: calculating our weight loss. I'm at 21.28% so far. I never like numbers before when it came to weight but I do now!!! Erica: Glad to hear you had a great vacay and you didn't let your lapband get in the way. Although you enjoyed what you ate, it was a treat, and not a treatment as my mother would say, and you worked out on the beach and burned it off. 2lb gain is not bad and now you even lost it. I lived a block from the beach before moving and every weekend, I would walk barefoot in the sand before the world got up. It was a great workout as well as being blessed to be at the Jersey Shore. I also agree with the other's here re: betrayal at work. Shame on them but glad to hear you rose above it! They'll all be enying you as you continue on your journey to become the Lapband model! :-) JDI: Talk about work outs, the Firm really is an awesome workout! I haven't seen the newest version of the DVD's but have the old 'cassettes' and they surely pack a punch when it comes to the hips, thighs and butt! You go girl! Chrissy: What a dilemma you have, what with your skirts getting too big! Don't you just love it? Of course, it's an added expense but well worth it in the end. During the summer months I've always worn the mid thigh broomstick skirts since I would never wear shorts and couldn't find cropped pants that would fit properly. I've noticed now, the waistbands are stretched out somewhat and actually hiding my 'thinness'. I mentioned here earlier in the week that I bought hiking shorts and just love them and feel no one is looking at me saying or thinking 'who does she think she is wearing clothes like that'? Too late in the season to find cropped pants but that's ok. I'm sure I have some in storage for next summer. {size 10}. Chrissy, hope the humidity has broken where you are and in Kentucky and all across the country. We had a few storms and our humidity finally broke. It's 70 deg here this morning at the Jersey Shore and it's gorgeous. Slept with the windows open last night which I love to do so I can hear the birds chirping early in the a.m. Ladybandito: Glad to hear the irritation is gone. I think we can all relate to that at one time or another. Your doctor sounds like he/she is very conservative with their philosophy on WLS. My Dr is and I'm ok with that. Are you losing in inches? I don't get crazy about the numbers on the scale. Since doing the surgery, if I've gone up 2lbs at anyone time, I'm am over joyed. Prior to surgery, I could go up a good 5lbs at any given time, and continue! I mainly go by my clothes and how the fit as well as the scale. Speaking of which, I am at a plateau for the past month and now stepping up my game and bought a Yoga DVD to get me inspired. I use to do yoga back in the day. It seems to be the rage around here so I thought it would be good to do on my non cardio days. I had another NSV yesterday which will stay with me for a loooonnnnggg time. My 16 yr old step daughter is visiting from SC. We've had our differences over the years like lots of step moms/daughters. She use to always say things to me or about me re: my big butt!. She came home at Easter time and was surprised my 'big butt' wasn't so big. Yesterday, I happened to be in the bedroom with a tank top and undies getting ready to change and she came in. She said, :omg, your butt"!!! I I looked in the mirror and thought it grew over night when she said, "it looks awesome"!!! LOL Ok, flabby but much smaller and awesome! I'll take it!!! LOL

Hi All!! I got my first fill this morning- it was a breeze! I got 1 cc- I have a 14 cc band, and he had put 5 cc's in during surgery, so total of 6. The PA who did the fill said with a 14 cc band the sweet spot was usually between 7-9 cc's but different for everyone. They do 1 cc at a time there, so my next appointment is April 2nd. Right now (about 2 hours after), I don't feel any different. On full liquids today, mushies tomorrow, then full foods Wednesday. It was super easy, I was so glad! Nicole- some suggestions- I've been thinking of taking up crocheting or cross stitch- journaling helps me. Go to the park, read a book, get on the treadmill (or do crunches or jumping jacks, etc)- even if you've already worked out, a little more won't hurt, LOL. Stress eating- just think about why you shouldn't- how much weight you've already lost, the NSV's you've already experienced, how much better you feel- that is head hunger, not real hunger. Journaling about your stress might help with that too! I'll post more if I think of any. Kymie- that's a bummer, but you're not a week behind, you're still going to lose weight!! You're doing great. 32 lbs is awesome! And about the skin- cross that bridge when you come to it. It will rebound some, I think, especially with exercise. And someone on the boards- I think it was SHirley54 or something- said something about talking to the head surgeon at a burn unit- they need skin there- who sometimes will do it if you donate the skin! Whoda thunk it? But don't borrow trouble- lose the weight! Maybe you'll win the powerball and can get all kinds of plastic surgery (remember who your friends are, LOL). Tell us any good recipes you come across. Hi Otaknam! Slow and steady DOWN is waaaay better than going up, LOL. Someone on these forums reminded me that the first little while is for surgery and healing, then comes the several months of fills to get to your sweet spot, then comes the losing!! So you're doing awesome!!!! It 's a marathon, not a sprint. Mags- weekends are hard for me too- I do a LOT of talking myself out of eating things. I too am a card carrying member of the clean plate club- let's tear those membership cards up together!!!!! Let's be a member of the "Leave a bite (or lots more) for Miss Manners" club, LOL. Journaling will help you be aware, for sure. I think it just takes several fills to get to where we feel like it's not such a struggle always. We are doing awesome! It's been only a month or two for all of us, depending on surgery date!!!!

new NSV: bath sheets just to big now. i have to bunch it up to tuck it around me. im going to have to down grade to a normal sized towel, geez. insert sarcasm here, lol. its been a long year. insee some around me that have reached goal already and some that are slow losers like me. we all go at our own pace, its a lot to learn and relearn and reteach. i just now feel im ready for another fill, its ben over 6 months i think. i needed to ensure i was eating correctly, chewing very well, and what foods and when i can eat. things you never thought of before. im very glad i got my band, i see new changes both physically and mentally constantly. you just need to enjoy the process instead of thinking your life will start once you reach goal. live now and blossom into a new you. much love and peace to you all.

Hi everyone! Looks like there have been some good NSVs! I had to go for a slight infill last week (.2 cc's). The sinus drainage I'd been fighting finally got so bad I couldn't even drink anything. Of course this morning I realized it had been coupled w/PMS. Oh well...it only pushed back my checkup by a week. However...i feel like I'm eating everything in sight.ugh! So..little restriction plus TTOTM cravings equals Chrissylu not hitting that 100 pound goal anytime soon. On the other hand, my sis-n-law gave me four nice suits that are in the 13/14 range. They all fit..yay! Hang in there everyone. I'm sure trying to.
  7. HA HA - if I could have lost the weight without surgery for long term results, I certainly would have. Have you failed at diets often only to regain the weight, repeatedly? This is not about lack of will power or the lack of strength to avoid food. Without my sleeve, my health would have gone downhill rapidly. Sure, I was lower BMI than you but every year that BMI ticked up just a little more, putting me at higher risk for serious health issues. Your wife sounds like she adores you and is worried. Have her read the success stories, look at before/after pictures and NSV (non scale victories). Reassure her you are not doing this to change for the sake of physical appearance alone but are choosing to take a small calculated risk to get healthy for the family and yourself. She is a major partner for your success. Find her true concern(s) and address it with her.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

NSV alert.. NSV alert!!!! I just got back from shopping at Penney's and got 3 pair of jeans. The first two are Gloria Vanderbilt.. one a size 18 and the other a size 16 cause the 18's won't fit long and they were on sale. And I'm talking REGULAR MISSES sizes here!! AND.. I got a pair of Cabin Creek pull on jeans in a size..... drumroll here..............12!!! I haven't been that size since I don't remember when. Course Cabin Creek must run big, but I don't care... it's the number that I see on the tag that counts!!! Mdrai...ummmmmmmm I put a cardboard cutout of myself in the pew????? Actually he knew I was skipping and he made intercession so the lightning bolt won't strike me dead on. whew.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

"Oh, a lovely NSV: one of the little ones at my school today didn't think my last year's picture (on my ID) was me! I told him it really was, but I was trying to get healthier and had lost some weight. He nodded his head wisely and said, "my mommy is always on a diet, too." These children are so adorable! Next year, I hope to look even less like my ID photo (that I just had taken a few days ago)!" This tale made me remember that my school ID pic is to be taken next week, 1 week before me getting banded and I have decided to turn my weightloss into a lesson for my class and take my measurements with ribbons and compare as the time goes on. They are 6 year olds and are bubbling over with interesting and relevant questions, which I am only to happy to answer.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

I just finished priming the railings on one side of the deck. It's 80 out and beautiful. My painting today was in the shade next to the hum of the a/c so it wasn't bad at all. AND it was the first time in my life that I have ever worn a tank top!! Another NSV!! woooo hooooo! I'm eating my Walmart Tuna Salad and will have some watermelon and black sweet cherries for dessert. Then it's off to the pool in the backyard for some aerobics. Ethan comes today at 2 and we have him until 11:30 tonight.. so you know I'll be busy!! We're going out to dinner and then to a Beatle's type concert at the band shell. It'll be a fun day today for sure.

    December post ops

I'm with you guys. My surgery was 12/31. I'm bored & hungry. I'm trying to stay positive but it's tough. It really helps me to look at before & after pics and to read NSV's. We'll get through this.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

OK, so here's a cool NSV. I walked into a meeting yesterday at work and I was greeted by someone with, "Well hello, slim". I stopped and looked around and my co-worker was laughing and she said, I'm talking to you. I want to go with you when you buy your bikini this summer slim. OMG, what a high that put me on. I just had to share. Thanks for all of your support and love to me on this site. Now, lets all go and seize the day!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Long - Congrats on wearing the 5 yr old clothes - that's a Great NSV!!! I want to see Mama Mia too.. Enjoy your show., PJ - you would really have to ck with them but I bet it means 50 grms max - 1 oz protein = 7 grms protein... But double check with them - As for breakfast - you can have meat - it doesn't have to be breakfast foods - yogurt/furit - meat & veggie omeltte - I will have meat for breakfast some days - I don't like sweets in the morning too much - tuna salad chicken salads (make with lite mayo or fat free - I prefer lite) I did shake breakfast & lunch - had salmon and veggies or salad for dinner.. Charlene I hear you girl - When I start eating watch out just want to keep eating that band helps some - but I would say most of the work is up to me cuz I could eat slider food - but I really try and stay away from them... Food channel - fat chick's best freind - skinny's chick worse enemy... I have been watching the food channel when it first hit the air here in the desert about 17 yrs ago... I found watch it made me want to eat 24/7 so I quit watching it all the time like I use to way before I got banded - but emril - paula dean are my fav's pork fat & butter - uhm I miss it ...

    Non Scale Victories

I'm almost 3 months out, and I've had a few NSV the past few weeks. I took a 40-minute run and didn't want to die. I actually felt like I could have kept going. I learned how to swim after 19 years because I finally felt confident enough to go to the pool. My (very thin) best friend asked if I wanted to have some of her clothes because she's moving and needs to cut down on her closet. Everything I tried on fit me! I had to buy size medium shorts! (I was wearing 3x at the beginning of this journey). I'm very happy!

This isn’t precisely a NSV, but - everyone hugs me now? EVERYONE. It’s fine with me, I’m cool with hugs, but I am also onto you people: I know you’re partly hugging me to see if I’ve actually lost weight or if I’m just wearing optical-illusion clothes! They're not being mean or weird about it, and half of it is they’re happy to see me looking so much more confident, so the hug is genuine exuberance - but I know you’re feeling up my rib cage for scaffolding, friends. ...and the heels in the airport were totally worth it and surprisingly comfortable. Also I ran out of room for them in my suitcase and had to wear them to meetings, so what the heck.

Had a memory the other day of when I was a kid and loved running through the mall. Going full speed dodging people as I ran. Used to feel awesome how I used to love running. "NSV's" I'm coming.......

    Non Scale Victories

Guess I’m crazy, cause my NSV is that my wedding ring is almost too big for me. This means it’s time for an upgrade!! 😆😆
  21. NancyLF

    Non Scale Victories

Yep! You're not alone! That was a HUGE NSV for me. I felt like a "normal" person! I loved standing up just so I could sit down and do it all over again. I must look like a Jack-in-the-Box! LOL!
  22. mimi0725

    Non Scale Victories

Had surgery 10/2016 for revision lap band. I totally had a NSV when I realized I could get up off the floor so easy and chase after my grandson, didn’t have to roll around and use furniture to try and get up and I am 60 years young
  23. RHCD

    Non Scale Victories

So I’ve been struggling with my longest slow/stall and feeling frustrated. Adding in that yesterday I went to use my recumbent bike and I was exhausted after 7 minutes when last week I did 35 with no problem. I put on a shirt I bought 2 months ago that was tight in the arms/shoulders but today didn’t strain one bit (wohoo bat wings!). Add in that my size 14 dress pants from Lane Bryant are hitting the loose phase became a very much needed NSV. Now today the sun is out and I’m hoping to work in the yard when I get home from work.

I have a bit of an annoying NSV. I keep getting my kids clothes mixed in with mine because now my oldest and I are wearing the same sized shirts and work out shorts and stuff...

    Non Scale Victories

In the past two months I have been able to wear my wedding ring again, I can play more comfortably with my kids on the floor, get much less winded while walking on hills where we live in SF, and have been finding clothes in my closet that haven't fit in a long time! Hooray for NSVs! This is a great thread.
