Finally 6 weeks out! Now what to eat?
CanyonBaby replied to gmacy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be starting soft food this week, and my NUT suggests half protein, half carb on the plate. She says to try anything that is easy to digest, easy to chew, and to try lots of new things but to go slow in eating it. Give each new thing a little time before taking another bite, to see how it goes. Good luck to us!!! -
Fill today.....and a slight gain
reverie replied to MaineJackie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I somehow gained 2lbs this last week as well, though I don't think it's a true gain as the scale dropped a pound this morning and last week I upped my calories and my exercise. Keep on pushing! 7lbs is definitely a great loss in a month. -
OK.....I was banded on march 24th.... so 5 weeks post-op yesterday.....now Im seeing my doctor for a fill on Monday...what I want to know is do I need a fill?...... does getting stuck have anything to do with needing a fill....Im thinking no.....in a way ...because I get stuck when I don't chew enough.... ( a few times for about a min)...Im eating about a cup of food for lunch and dinner... and having a small breakfast.... not really hungry ... and never eat at night... so do I need a fill? ....Im joining the gym today......maybe I will start to feel hungry with the workouts???.... maybe I should get my fill? what have you done so far??????

Question About Soft Foods
RickM replied to illgeturhairdid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that it's more that you are experiencing the classic three week (give or take some) stall, which happens when you have pretty much used up your stock of glycogen and are transitioning to burning primarily fat. Your body needs to start storing replenishing its glycogen stores, which takes some Water to keep in solution, so you are hanging on to some water now, too, until you finish changing gears to fat burning mode. Some people will stall for a few days or even weeks at this point, and others will barely pause, so don't worry about that, either, if it happens. So, relax and enjoy experimenting with new things again. -
Hello from NY/Ct ...i'm new to this..!!
jen414 replied to moonstar5923's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Tanya, I'm also from CT but I'm doing my surgery in Norwalk. I'm obsese but when I mention it to others I always mention that I'm a little chubby. I don't know about your doctor but I can share about what I have gone through so far... I began this process in June. I've gone through 6 months of doctor/nutritionist supervised weight loss visits. Although at each one they both said don't lose weight the bigger you are the better. I've only lost 3 pounds. I have gone through the mental health and the nutritionist appointist that go through the actual diet. Although reading here I've noticed that everyone has a different diet. My surgeon will have me on a 2 week preop diet. I also needed my gallbladder out, I did that in July. Now I feel like I've jumped through enough hoops and I'm waiting for insurance. Hopefully it will come soon. My original idea was to get the surgery done in August (I'm a teacher) as you see that didn't happen but I'm still optimistic. I'm hoping for a New Year surgery. -
I am usually the one who drives everyone everywhere...i haven't driven since sleeve date 4/11 as my surgeon says no driving for a week. I have my follow up and I am driving there today. Something so simple excites me.. I am totally independent and hate being a burden to everyone. And i miss driving my truck

something I never thought about..

You can't take anything? I'm on tramadol an it helps a ton. I'm 2.5 weeks out -
I quit 4 weeks ago. The first week I chewed regular gum and sucked on cinnamon and butterscotch hard candies. Then I went and got an electronic cig and a pack of refill cartridges (comes with 5) and that lasted me for 2 weeks and this past Friday I bought another refill pack. I plan to quit this as well but at my week pre op liquid diet. Maybe sooner. I got in trouble for gaining 7 lbs this past month so now I have to lose that plus 10 more pounds

I am 7 days into my 2 week pre op diet and have only lost 6 pounds! I don't know if this is considered good or bad. I was actually hoping to loose about 10 pounds in the first week. I still have a week to go, so hopefully I can knock off 10 lbs by then. I work am a front desk medical receptionist, so I don't really do much running around. I guess that may be the reason why. I also am not a liquid kinda gal, I know I deffinatley do not drink 8 glasses of water a day. I guess i have to start drinking more water. How much weight have you lost during the pre-op diet if your on all liquids?

I have had a few stalls and it is a little frustrating, but I know it will come. I have been having to heal myself and at most times have been unable to eat and sometimes drink. My body has gone into starvation, I am sure. I just wish it would go out! When I lose, I lose basically a pound a day. Seeing those same numbers every time I get on the scale is discouraging at times.

I had my surgery out of state and intended to return to my surgeon for at least the first fill. There are several local options for fills and I planned to use one of them for future fills when necessary. However... I planned to take two days off work to get my fill. But I just found out that I can't take one of those days off. So just reschedule, right? The issue is that the fill appts fill up very quickly and I was told it takes 4-6 weeks to get in. That's why I made my first fill appt when I was there for surgery. That day will be a little over 4 weeks post-op. I don't really care to wait an additional 4-6 weeks, especially if I'm in "bandster hell" at that point (so far, not bad but I end mushies on Thursday, we'll see how it goes on "real" food). I am leaning towards making an appointment for a fill locally, that way I can just take a few hours off of work and hopefully get in earlier than I would with my other surgeon. Depending on which one I choose the cost won't be that different -- to fly to get a fill I'd be paying about $400 (the fill is free, but the cost is the plane ticket, one night hotel, etc). Some doctors charge more than that for your first visit. Of course my surgeon pointed out that if someone else punctures the tubing or causes another problem when doing a fill, they won't repair it for free and he will. But that doesn't really help me at the moment. In an ideal world, I would return to him for each fill. But in an ideal world, my insurance would've covered the surgery. Or there would've been a reputable local surgeon that I could afford. Or I wouldn't have gotten fat enough to get to the point where weight loss surgery was my last resort. It's not an ideal situation but I am trying to make the best of it.

First fill scheduling issues.
VegasGrace replied to GreenChrysalis's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, you are a smart one. Everyone should schedule an appointment DAY OF surgery, or even before, for a 6 week fill. AND a 10 week fill AND a 14 week fill. Don't wait until week before or anything. Being on time, everytime is the key to the lapband system. Don't need to keep the appointment? Just call a day or two in advance and cancel it...but not the others. -
Annabelle I too had a wait for my surgery. I started in Feb of 2012 and was sleeved Dec 5th 2012. I am really happy that I followed my NUT suggestion and stopped caffeine, carbonated soda, and empty calories back in early Feb. I read post of those who only stopped those foods when they reached the preop diet and they are miserable fighting craving while trying to adjust the sleeve. I am only unhappy that I got so caught up in "let's hurry up and make this happen" I failed to look at the risk objectively. The surgeon's office is selling a product so they gloss over everything unpleasant. Those here on the form do not, so read about complications and find out the truth of what could go wrong. I got a pierced bowel because my surgeon made a mistake cutting scar tissue. It made for a week hospital stay but worst my family feared they were loosing me during the hours/days it took to get things under control. Read about leaks. Yes they are all rare but I a proof as are many others on here rare happened to real people. With that being said I am a type 2 diabetic, and have hypertension. All meds were gone days after surgery.

I can't believe I'm already to this point in the process...I first saw my surgeon in April 2011... Let me tell you all a little story about me. I have a miracle child. His story went viral in Feb. 2011. Our local news station has been following him and has done 4 segments on him so far. As I said it went viral. Fox news picked it up first, then AOL news, then it hit papers in London...as you can imagine, I was reading all the comments (good and bad) and LOTS of them. Someone posted the story on Youtube...the top comment was...are you ready for this? (I'll post his story after this and you'll understand that most of the comments was how amazing he is...how cute he is...what a "nice" family we are, lol). The top comment on youtube was: "His parents are so f*cking fat." That was it. I was like, THAT is what you took away from the story?????? I started gaining weight in 2006 when my son Trey lived for only 6 weeks because of heart disease. Then with Chase added to the mix, well, I deserved oreos. I knew I was gaining fast, but craved comfort. Hence, my running to the Lapband surgeon, lol. Now I'll show you the two most recent stories...I'm 30 pounds lighter and wish I could slap the a$$ that commented on the story so rudely. food. I just wanted to share. Thank you for letting me vent!!! ~Heather PS I am on my way out the door for my first fill!!!!!!

Who waited longer to get their first fill?
Kirsten117 replied to Kirsten117's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone for you input. I think I jinxed myself. LOL This is the first week that the scale hasn't moved an ounce. :cry I had finally made my decision to not get a fill, but now I'm not sure again. I think I'll wait it out a bit more to see what happens, maybe this stall is just temporary. I've been tracking my calories daily and am only getting in 500-700/day. If I get filled, I'll be down to almost nothing. Still doesn't make sense to me that with less than 700 calories a day, I'm not losing. I've read enough here to know not to worry...LOL....but it's sooooo damn frustrating. :faint: Thanks again! -
Fill and NO FOOD
rhonda435 replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my 1st fill todaqy also. But i knew i had to go back on a liquid diet after the fill. Its so the swelling will go down. Look at the bring side. Being on a liquid diet will mean more weight loss this week. -
After being in a stall for 2-3 weeks I'm finally losing again. What s relief.......

I finally got a clearance! I've been going to this doctor every two weeks since January. Mind you he's about 36 miles away. Labs every two weeks. The same mean receptionist every two weeks. I'm so happy to be done! Well, for now. Still have to keep going for check ups but it won't be every two weeks ???? Do you have your surgery dates?

brittonswifey replied to brittonswifey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor has me on a 2 week diet and oh my its hard! I can have juice, gatorade, powerade-limit 2 a day Regular Jello, fruit flavored regular popsicles, or no sugar added fudgsicles- 3 or less a day Milk, light yogurt, cottage cheese-less than 3 servings a day Low carb protien shake-2 servings a day and thats all they have on my list....i hope i can make it!!!! If anyone else has any suggestions....PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!! -
Week four was like a new me. I didn't have much pain, but I did have a lot of nausea. I have never had a hernia surgery so I do not know what the recovery expectations are. Nine days it not very long. I would give it more time and see how you feel. I am sure you will feel better soon. Remember your body has twice as much to get acustomed to. The sleeve surgery alone is a big change to your body. Be patient and hang in there.

good for you i hope it all keep going well i get my sleeve in 3 weeks im so ready im tired of all the pain and yes ill be excited to be able to wipe my butt easier too !! take care silvia

I was banded on 3/7 and lost 10 pounds preop and 11 so far. Had my first fill 6 weeks out and still don't feel much restriction. It takes time and a lot of patience, but I'm determined this will work. I just have the feeling I'll be a turtle too.
