    Dr. Gorecki

It took less than a week for my paperwork to be approved once his office manager submitted. I'm sure that depends more on your insurer than anything else.
  2. Nausea is normal post WLS, my surgeon sent me home with anti nausea medication. I didn't need them. The pain from the incision that your stomach came out is also normal. It will eventually go away. I slept in my recliner for a week because of it.
  3. Congrats, that's fantastic!!! Yeah, I've been able to get more protein in also, and it definitely makes a difference. I am trying to increase my water now, I seem to struggle more with that than protein. Way to go on breaking your stall!!!

    ulcers?

Interesting. Iam about 7 weeks post op and I have never vomited until yestersday. It seems like everytime I eat or drink I feel like I'm going to throw up. I been feeling off for several days. I go in for my lab work this week and see the surgeon in two weeks. I too do not smoke or drink. Maybe I can get some answers. I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes to you !!! Deb

    8.06.07: making small goals

Dear Plumpy Pad, So I have made it my mission to weight 290 lbs. by November 5th. That's a goal to lose juse under 25 lbs. in 3 months... AT LEAST! I'm doing well, especially since today is a work day!! There is so much to keep myself busy with... especially since I only have a 3 day work week and then go on VACATION!!! God I can't wait. I don't feel like I am all that stressed out at work, but I know not working will make me that much LESS stressed!! Anyways, I'm done with my 15 minute break! Back to work!!

    I want a scrambled egg!

I ate a soft scrambled egg with a little bit of grits on week 4. I know I wasn't supposed to do it but it didn't bother me at all. I mixed some southwestern egg beaters and instant grits together in a blender, poured about a coffee cup full, sat the cup on my coffee cup warmer and ate about 1/2 of it in about an hours time. Hope this helps!! Good luck!

    drinks

Water are crystal light are my staples, I am 8 weeks out now and I drink skim milk at least 16 ounces a day it boosts my protein. G2 and powerade occasionally but they are more expensive than the crystal light.

    Feeling a lot

The feelings you're having are pretty normal at the stage you're at. I think the depression (to an extent), the fatigue, the "remorse" are nothing more than your body reacting to the fact that it's not getting what it's used to in terms of foods (good or bad) at this very moment. I noticed a very large change in attitude at about the end of the week 2 mark and it's gotten better and better every week since. Embrace the positives. Look at what you've accomplished so far. Grasp onto that, try new things. Some of the foods you thought you didn't like before you may now, and vice versa. It's amazing how our tastes change after the surgery. I couldn't eat anything overly sweet, and things that didn't taste too sweet or too salty to me before surgery were amplified by what seemed to be 100% after surgery. Best thing for me, honestly. If you told me even a week before surgery that there would be days I would actually be craving a salad, or a few slices of a tomato, I would have probably told you that you were crazy. I've always liked those things, but never craved them. Now, the healthier I eat, the more I crave healthier foods. You can succeed and looking at your progress, I'd say you already are. Stick with it...it really does get better!!! Best of luck!

    London calling

Hello Natalie! Has your surgeon given you directions on what you should be eating pre banding? If he/she says no fat, than no fat it is. If not, follow what you are being told. As hard as the next few weeks will be, believe me when I tell you that it will fade into distant memory as you move through the phases of being banded. Welcome to the boards. Nice to meet you.
  11. thank yall so much for your answers..i feel better just hearing from other people and having my feeling validated!!!i dread life right after surgery but i'm a strong woman and i've been thru so much already in my life so i know i can get thru this and be happy on the other side.. I had back surgery in may and recovered as much as expected considering i have other herniated and bulging discs (another side effect of obesity) and i know in my heart that if i dont get a significant amount of weight off and keep it off forever than another back surgery will probably happen. not to mention my high bp which i have to take 2 meds for and pre diabetes. I have to have this surgery. I'll be sleeved this time next week..omg.. i still can't believe this!!!the future is bright

    Discomfort

I was banded 4 weeks ago. I have 3 small incisions, left, center and right, with a larger center incision where the port was inserted. My port is on the right. Everything is well healed, but the incision on the left, is still sore when I rub my finger on it. Don't know what they did on that side, but it seems as though that wound is deep.
  13. I had the best luck with unjury Protein powders. Seemed to cause less gas and diarrhea in the first couple of weeks. Lynda

Start My Pre Op Diet Today

I have been on preop diet of liquids, soup, popsicles, and jello and I have my surgery this friday. I'm looking forward to being able to eat some veggies and meat in acouple of weeks.
  15. My doctor wanted me to try and get my Protein in from the very beginning- and I was released with a Clear liquids plus protein drinks order. However, I could hardly drink anything for the first five days- I set the alarm on my phone for every fifteen minutes and measured out 2-4 ounces and drank it. It was tough! At day five drinking became much easier and I started getting all my protein in from that point as I am a complier by nature and I am determined to make this work for me. Though some of the drinks I had liked pre surgery were now disgusting to me I did find a couple that worked and I had at least two a day plus added some greek yogurt and milk to my Soup etc. ( went to thin liquids after a week) and have gotten 70-80 grams since day five. I suggest ordering different samples for sure- I like the Chike meal replacements- they are very tasty and though they have about 8 net carbs they are great for the first few months . I also second Unjury- their unflavored protein is great to add to soup and other things and the chicken soup is an absolute Godsend because believe me you will get really sick of sweet protein drinks! Everyones tastes differ so you wont know what works for you until after- I advise you to have lots of samples on hand and don't stock up too much in case you hate the things you formerly liked. The reason, btw, that my doctor wants you to have protein from the start is to keep your energy up and especially with the lower calories you tend to take in during this phase, to be sure you don't start burning muscle instead of fat. It is never too soon to start the right chemistry for weight loss! Good luck to you!

    Weight Gain After Pastics...

Since I follow a Dr S group on FB, I read ALOT about people's experiences with plastics. A couple of things, most of us don't have that much skin removed. Seems like 20# but for me, it was only 5.5# Then, you DO generally have swelling.. often for months. I didn't swell too bad, but did have some. Extensive plastics take alot of calories to heal (especially protein!). I was HUNGRY I mean really hungry during the healing phase. I had to focus hard to not overeat. It wasn't destructive, it was my body telling me I needed the nutrients to heal. I stayed high Protein and really monitored my intake so i didn't gain weight ... but I didn't lose any either. Others on the PS forum (private FB page) have LOST weight due to the "afterburn" I just described. I am not sure why - but many say they have no appetite. I don't think that is necessarily better as I want my overall health to be as good as possible and if I need nutrients to heal - I would rather feed the healing process than lose a few pounds. So for me, I stayed the same but could have easily gained. I do NOT think it was sabatoge, it was genuine physical hunger that declined approx 4-6 weeks post plastics. Remember, i had alot done at once too (LBL, breast, arm lift and a small thigh lift)

    First meal....

I can't remember from your previous posts, but are you on a PPI like Nexium, Prilosec, Protonix? Eating really sucks, especially after complications. I always felt like eating was stressful which in turn made my stomach tighter for whatever reason. Have you tried warm fluids like warm decaf tea the Celestial seasonings makes a peppermint tea that and a chamomile tea that totally rocked for me, I felt so wonderful drinking those. And, when my hydration levels were getting compromised, I said "screw the calories/sugar, I need fluid" and I drank regular gatorade. If I was dehydrated, and my body was struggling to function, a few calories/sugar wasn't going to hinder my weight loss, and honestly, after my complications, I didn't give 2 poops about carbs/sugar that first couple of weeks, I needed fluids. Warm fluids seemed to relax my stomach, soothing, but the warmth really helped and still do this at 2 years out. I still order hot tea or coffee before a meal. I hope the next few days are easier.
  18. Does any one know if our stomaches can hold only the same amount of liquid (soup) as food (cream of wheat)??? Seems I can eat more soup before I feel full.

    Pureed stage--blenders?

I don't think so. You can find all kinds of already puréed foods. If you think about it you'll be eating about 2 ounces of food three times a day - that's about 80 ounces in 2 weeks- not worth buying an expensive blender. Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 192 GW 135
  20. soo sorry just had to vent!! I am 3 weeks post op today and the scale is stuck at 235.4, every single time I weigh myself, soooo aggrivating, I heard that this was going to happen, but didnt think I would get this mad

No weight gain but no loss either

Went back to the doc today. He was disappointed in the only one pound loss in three weeks. Needless to say, so am I. I am still keeping caloried in check and exercising. For the most part I eat healthy. He did another fill under fluoro. I am up to 11cc now. I have been sick since drinking all of the contrast and upchucked it. I waited a couple of hours and tried some cream of chidken soup, unfortunately that came back up. I only hope it is just the fill today. We will see tomorrow. I sure hope it is not an obstrction. Been there done that. To top it all off, my treadmill died. Ain't that a killer!!!! Aggravated and disappointed but I guess that too will pass.

    Self Pay With Questions!

You could go to Mexico... I am self pay and researched my doc and hospital and simply could not justify the cost of staying here in the US.. My doc has more experience, the hospital is amazing and the cost is $6k cheaper! Plus once I decided they were able to schedule me 4 weeks out. My pre op stuff (ekg, bloodwork, etc) will be done the day before surgery and I will have 2 days recovery in the hospital, which is more than the docs here cover. Anyway, just research and keep an open mind and you may be able to schedule sooner =)
  23. So I got worried over the last two weeks because I was barely able to eat solid foods. I am 15 weeks out now (3.5mos). It would take 20 minutes or so to get in 1-1.5oz of Protein (chicken, scallop, shrimp, etc) and I got the "full" signal. Most days, I barely hit 500 calories. Then, in the last two days I feel more hungry than usual. And I have been able to eat larger meals with no problem. In fact, if I wasn't listening to my full signal, I'd eat more. It's as though I'm eating more easily. Last night I had 3oz of meat (mix pork chop and filet mignon leftovers), plus some veggies. Went down easy and in under 30 minutes. Tonight we made soft tacos for the first time since surgery b/c my husband was craving them. I made mine with 2oz ground lean meat and limited toppings more tostada style. No rice allowed and only 1tbsp pinto Beans - and no frying of the shell, just a nice pan reheat, no oil. I was expecting to eat it tostada style, but found myself trying the soft taco shell (a low carb option). To my amazement I was able to eat one whole taco, small bites, putting down the taco b/n bites and eating over about 20 minutes. I tallied everything and it came to 297 calories, 13g protein, and only 15 carbs. But it was more than I've eaten in a single meal in WEEKS, and so easily with no pain at all. I was still under 700 calories for the day, 110g of protein, 30 carbs total and 20g fat. I also drank 80oz of Water and went on a 1.5 hour grueling 9 mile mountain bike ride. The only things I can tie it to is that I hit ovulated a few days ago and I know the hormones spike in the days/week after that. Has this happened to anyone else?

    Frustrated

Holy cow! 106 lbs is amazing! Feel proud of yourself! I hit a stall about 2 weeks after surgery. I've put on half a pound here and there but it does come off. I know I need more exercise and apparently I need more water cause now I'm dealing with constipation. Fun.

Hematoma at site of port removal

I had a hard spot the size of a golf ball at that site. It didn't hurt or bother me. My doctor said it might drain out the inscision site next to it. It didn't, and I think it was gone at two weeks out. Good luck.
