  1. Had my gallbladder removed and I am still vomiting and the various pain is not happening.I am going for barium swallow to see what is truly happening. He performs revisions in 2 steps.Band removal then revision.I am not jumping for joy.I have had deep vein thrombosis...I have to now put bypass back on the table.
  2. Just went to the dr. Today....I now have to really reconsider whether it is the sleeve or bypass .I need to lose a minimum of 125 pounds .....no ifs and or but about it.This new dr doesn't perform bypass(his associates )do.He only performs a 2 part revision ...so it would be band removal, wait 3 months then another surgery. Now this is the same difference.2 surgeries....:-(.Maybe the bypass is the way to go.
  3. I felt like a real failure after I gained back all lost weight (120#) after a stomach stapling in 1982. I refused to even think about any type of revision because I felt had my chance and failed to keep it off. But several loving friends were brave enough to tell me that they were concerned about my health because of my morbid obesity and wondered if I considered a revision. After I dealt with my very hurt feelings, I stopped feeling sorry for myself and now I'm researching a revision. I don't care what people think because the ones I care about will be my biggest cheerleaders. Please take that awful word failure out of your vocabulary.

    SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION

I have Cigna Open Access Plus. It covers bariatric surgery and revision, I'm just worried there will be some weird requirement that I haven't thought of. I live outside of the US right now and I have a limited window when I'm going to be home to have the revision. What's your insurance? Have you started the process yet?

    SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION

What insurance do you have because I'm in the process of trying to have the revision due to GERDS as well

    SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION

I heard back from them and the 6 month thing was a mistake, but she still gave me kind of a confusing list of requirements. I think she lumped the "revision due to weight regain" in with the "revision due to complications." One of them though, was evidence that I had adhered to nutritional guidelines. Isn't that just being a normal BMI? I don't have recent documentation of meeting with a nutritionist so I hope it's okay. They make everything so complicated!

    I want off this ride!

Went to the new dr today. He is a quiet reserved physician.i told him my woes.Incidently had a bad case of indigestion .I am scheduled for a barium swallow and X-ray of the band on Thursday. He explained to me that he only does Sleeve ,revisions and the band.Seems like a lot of people are having their band removed. He also gave me a script for a upper and lower gi to make sure there is no hidden hernia. He only does 2 procedure revisions so I would have to have band removal then wait 3 months for the sleeve. He explained that this is the best way not to develop any complications because the sleeve is irreversible.

    SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION

Sounds like you need to verify that they filed the claim as a revision due to GERD.

    SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION

I don't know if the insurance coordinators are presenting the facts as revision due to other medical issues....

    Surgery choices- sleeve vs RNY

I'm having a revision from lap-band to another form of bariatric surgery in two weeks, and I chose RNY instead of the sleeve. My reasons were: The sleeve can cause major acid reflux. I'd already suffered from severe, uncontrollable acid reflux with the band, and didn't want to even risk it again. It's truly miserable, and can cause a lot of lasting damage to your esophagus, vocal cords, and teeth. The sleeve is a purely restrictive procedure, whereas RNY combines restriction with malabsorbtion. Having PCOS, and having had one purely restrictive procedure already, I know that I need more than just restriction. I may have been able to work the sleeve if I'd been able to have it as my original procedure, but the lap-band completely ruined my already slow metabolism. I know in my heart that I would not be successful with the sleeve, and having had the band and a replacement band when the original slipped, I simply don't want to have to do this again. After my experience with the lap-band, I simply am not going to again trust a procedure that is as new as the sleeve, with no long-term results available. It's had great results when performed as part of the DS, but as a stand-alone procedure, it simply doesn't have many long-term statistics available. After trusting the hype once with the lap-band, I'm not willing to do it again. When I got my band, it was being touted as the next big thing in WLS, with projected long-term stats that matched or exceeded those of the RNY. Then, after a few years, the real stats started coming in, and they aren't good. I truly believe that the majority of morbidly obese people don't just have a problem with overeating. I think many, if not most, have underlying metabolic issues. Unfortunately, the sleeve does nothing to address those.

    I want off this ride!

Pink - I hear you! I've been having the same issues. I hope I don't kill this thread really every time I post in a thread nobody ever posts in it again :-( But anyway. Fills and un-fills back and forth, one day I can eat way more than I feel like I should be able to and the next thing I know I can't even keep down Water the next day. I've been on the fence about revision to the sleeve. I need to have my gallbladder removed but I'm trying to decide what to do with this band. I feel like I'm in a tennis match with myself. Should I do it? Is my band being a snot or is it just because of the gallbladder? Does the band hate me now? It seems once I got enough Fluid to have restriction I have all kinds of trouble. I'd have to pay $350 or so OOP and go through the 6 week program before my insurance company would decide if they will cover it. So there's that too. I wish you the best of luck!
  12. This is one of my big concerns as well. I keep thinking I should get the revision because of all the recent issues I've had with my band. I'll have to get my gallbladder out and keep going back and forth about whether or not I want to do the revision at the same time. My surgeon he could do it all in one surgery. Then I think maybe I won't have so many issues with the band after the gallbladder is gone?? I never had issues with my band until my gallbladder started acting out.
  13. I'm in my 3rd month from my revision and I'm very happy with it so far. I've lost 35 lbs and I do have restriction even though my sleeve is not as small as a usual sleeve. The other day I pushed it and finished my plate and I did throw it back up. Otherwise I have not had a problem at all. I know not to do that now.

    I am not prepared!

Yes I was not quite prepared. I had my first appointment to discuss my band to sleeve revision and then 2 weeks later I was in surgery. And I had to make an unexpected trip across country for work in that 2 weeks. But I was determined to do it so I just went with the flow.
  15. Well @@SIPSGrammy I definitely understand cravings, and popcorn is my favorite snack of all times...lol Yes please get on your vitamins, I know for me that will be a struggle as well so I am trying to get into a routine myself....cause I honestly hate taking meds...but I also don't like being sick....so that is my journey...and I need to embrace it now!!! I will definitely keep you posted once I hear something...I have a couple more months to see Dr Bruce as part of my revision requirements per my first meeting....so IF it is approved I am thinking it will not be until the fourth qtr of this year.
  16. Thanks so much for the reply to my inquiry....I've been busy taking all those pre-approval tests the last couple of weeks and really kind of coming off the sites for a few days to allow myself time to sort through all the information I've gathered and of course keep it in prayer so that I make the BEST decision for myself in regards to IF I want to do the revision and IF so, what procedure am I comfortable with as well as the one I will be committed to afterwards in regards to my maintenance to ensure a healthy outcome! I will definitely check out the website mentioned and http://www.dssurgery.com/procedures/duodenal-switch.php?subnav=2 This is another avenue of knowledge thanks so much for sharing... Please keep me posted as to your journey... and if you don't mind please add me as a friend!
  17. Sorry for the delay in response, I felt like I was overloading on information I was reading every moment I had on different sites information so that when I meet with him again this month I would have some questions from a knowledge base instead of knowing nothing as I was prior to visiting the different WLS sites. Yes, Barbara told me that REX was the hospital I was supposed to use for mine as well so I will find out more. I just finished my tests last week and found out that my stoma was stretched quite a bit and that is why my food intake has increased over the years. So after my last test on Friday, he stated he would have Barbara submit my paperwork to BCBSNC for approval. So we will see what he has in mind for me I know he still wants to do a DS version surgery for my revision so if that is not approved, I may have to switch to a provider who actually does the original DS, since he is known for the SIPS. SO..... enough about me.... how are you doing post surgery....please share any information you are comfortable with about your journey thus far so I can again, add this information to my notes for Q/A on my next visit.
  18. Hi All, I had an RNY 3 years ago. I lost all of my weight (120 Lbs) then due to complications, was forced to have my RNY reversed a year ago with the intent to sleeve me as soon as it was safe to do so. Since the reversal at the end og August last year, I have gained back 50 Lbs. I have been fighting it with every ounce and have a personal trainer and an incredibly active workout schedule, and all it has done is slow the gain. I got t he call on Friday that I am booked for the sleeve on Aug 26. I know I am a bit unique as I am going from RNY to nothing to VSG. I guess what I am looking for is some support. I am ass backwards from most revisions and I am genuinely terrified that I will not lose the weight. I felt my best about 45 lbs ago and I want to know if there is honest hope that I will make it there again. I miss my RNY and have even considered going against advice and being re-RNY'd the complication that caused them to reverse the procedure has not reversed itself either (they knew that there was at best a 50% chance it would) I feel very much like it was for nothing and I have started to fight some serious depression. I am afraid to go out and be seen by friends because so many of them looked so harsely towards my decision to have the RNY and many people said that the weight lose was the surgery and not me and I am so afraid that they will think "haha, she failed" Yes I kow these aren't true friends but they are members of our social circle and I know it strikes a cord because I feel that way now inside myself. Trust me, I know how much BS that is. I k now how hard i worked with the RNY and the long term changes I have made because of the power it gave me but that evil malicious part inside me taunts me just the same. Sorry, I got lost in my vent there.... anyways, is there ANYONE out there who has revised from RNY to Sleeve? Or is there anyone out there that can help strengthen the belief that 45 lbs is NOT a reach. I hate myself right now and wish I had never lost the weight to begin with because I never would have known what I was missing. Also, I would dearly love some bariatric friends in my fitbit world to help keep me company and on track. my fitbit email is koeheather@gmail.com.... Looking for support Heather
  19. I am about 3 months post op revision from band to sleeve, male 6"1 and have dropped from 226 to 189.. All has been going fine and well but feel like i have reached a stall in weight reduction. Feel like im getting more hungrier and im craving sweets alot which i thought it would be a thing i would not have to deal with after getting sleeve. Been only eating one solid meal a day but i have protein shakes for breakfast and lunch because food seems to get sorta stuck and i get a nausea feeling when i eat certain solids. Dont know if this is just a phase im going thru or is it something of a huge concern for me. Would like to hear opinions, comments or suggestions from you all.
  20. If this is a revision, when was your first surgery? Could it be they're afraid of offending you for questioning a second surgery? I, too, had a revision after 5 years. Not sure people knew how to take a second go at it. It was odd enough at the time (2003) for them to understand the first.
  21. So i am almost a week out from surgery. I have not made it a secret about my weight loss revision that I had on Aug. 3rd, and other than my parents (who lives across the country) who sent me flowers, no one has even asked me how I'm doing. No phone call, no PM on Facebook, not even a damn text. I dont want to sound selfish or even feel sorry for myself, but my feelings are a little hurt that not one of my friends or coworkers has even made an attempt to ask how I'm doing. Is weight loss surgery so "taboo" that people don't want to address it? I mean, I did after all have major surgery. I feel so alone right now.
  22. Some good news: I got a surgery date! I'm having my band-to-bypass revision on August 24th! They only gave me about 3 weeks notice, so I've been running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, trying to get all my clearances done. I got my labwork, chest xray, and cardiology clearance done this past Thursday, I have my pulmonology clearance scheduled for Tuesday, and my education class on Wednesday! I'm so excited! I've been trying to get everything in order for surgery, since my mom is flying down to stay with me. I've ordered all of my pre-op Vitamins (even though I don't have to start them for 6 weeks), a zip-front soft bra for leaving the hospital, and I'm going to go buy some more Premier Protein shakes at costco this week (they're on sale!), and I'm trying to get my apartment as clean and organized as possible.
  23. Very encouraged as I have lost 33 pounds to date and already weigh less than I ever did with the band. Do not like anything with sugar except G2 Gatorade. Took a drink of Coke and it was no good, my favorite ice cream and don't have any interest in. Meanwhile I am sleeping better - not sweating as much and feel good. A new wardrobe is headed my way soon. 264.8 on June 25th and 231.6 on August 9th.
